PLEASE WRITE A FF ABOUT THEM T-T
Okay so I recently started twinkling watermelon (or sparkling watermelon) and I binge watched all 6 eps in one day (yea I'm hooked). I like all the characters and I really like the slow paced romance between Yi Chan and Cheong-Ah. BUT I'M WAY MORE INVESTED IN EUN GYEOUL AND SE KYUNG'S *I mean her daughter's* STORY !! I'm not a good writer so if you're interested in them as well and you're a good writer then please write a fanfic about them if you don't mind :"")<3

Alchemy of Souls: Seo Yul and Prince Go Won
Tumblr media
Seo Yul went on to become the head of Jeongjingak. So he trains mages now, but this poor guy has neither Naksu nor So-yi.
His ancestor, master Seo Gyeong, and Jin Seol-ran's ill-fated love story continued with him because Jin Bu-yeon is her and Naksu is her.
Give the guy an epic adventure as he trains mages and lives a solitary but fulfilled life, or give him someone who'll train mages alongside him. Maybe another long-lost Jin family member or something? Give the Seo and Jin tragedy a better ending. Such a stretch, yes. 😂
Tumblr media
What about Crown Prince Go Won? No Mu-deok nor Jin Bu-yeon for him either. I thought Lady Seo would have been nice, but they're relatives lol. Just give the guy a better queen than his mother was or something.
Edit (Jan 2025):
An AU idea came to mind while rewatching this show again. 💡
What if the ill-fated Seo (Gyeong) and Jin (Seol-ran) love story continues indeed through Seo Yul and another Jinyowon priestess? 🤔 But who would it be? Perhaps a cousin or a relative of the Jin sisters, like Jin Mu's long-lost daughter who's out to avenge her dad?
For Prince Go Won, perhaps a princess from another kingdom that could become potentially an enemy or an ally. What about another Jinyowon priestess? By doing that, all "four men that are from the Daeho Fortress that all the women want to marry" (the Crown Prince, Park Dang-gu, Seo Yul, and Jang Uk) from powerful families would have married into the Jin family. Although technically, it's Naksu via Jin Bu-yeon. Part 2 ended with Bu-yeon supposedly helping out with the queen-to-be selection process.
But what if Naksu gets exposed finally? Technically, she is from a once distinguished family too (as Cho Yeong), but I wonder how the people will react to that. The mages were gossiping about Uk being the late king's son through the alchemy of souls so that seems to have been accepted by the general populace.
How about the mage family leaders who died when they tried to wake the firebird? Sure, they were bad guys, but there can possibly be conflicting opinions on that.
Lastly, I'm also curious about Yul's general dad. He was never shown in the story, but Seoho Fortress sounds as equally intriguing as Daeho. Uk was also appointed as the North Fortress general, so I imagine that the kingdom is larger with possibly four fortresses in all directions (north, south, east, and west) with Daeho situated in the middle for optimal protection. Seoho was described to be far, so it can possibly be in the opposite direction of the North fortress, the south.
I imagine it to be similar to the image below, but the four fortresses should be very far from the center and will require days of travel.

TWINKLING WATERMELON // KDRAMA DİZİ YORUMU
UYARI : Yazılar genel olarak spoiler içerebilir. İçermeyedebilir.
İmdb puanı: 9 Benim puanım: 10
Drama: Twinkling Watermelon (English title) / Sparkling Watermelon (literal title)
Hangul:
Director: Son Jung-Hyun
Writer: Jin Soo-Wan
Date: 2023
Cast: Ryeo Un, Choi Hyun-Wook, Seol In-A, Shin Eun-Soo, Choi Won-Young, Seo Young-Hee, Bong Jae-Hyun, Ko Du-Shim, Park Ho-San, Kim Tae-Woo

Twinkling Watermelon is a warm and high-quality drama that brilliantly blends youthful energy with a nostalgic atmosphere. It's an incredibly polite and intelligently written production, clearly crafted with great care. By weaving together strong themes like time travel, family bonds, and personal dreams, it manages to enchant viewers from the very first moment. With its rich visuals and heartfelt storytelling, it secures a place among unforgettable dramas. It offers a story that truly defies time. It's one of those rare shows that successfully harmonizes so many elements, and it absolutely made it into my famous top 10 list. From family bonds to music, from friendships to first loves—you can find it all here.
Here’s a quick spoiler warning for those who want to go in blind—skip this paragraph if you prefer surprises. I watched it without knowing, and it made the experience even more fun. Maybe you're reading this before starting, maybe after, but just in case: the story unfolds across two different timelines. You realize this right at the end of the first episode, just when you're fully immersed in the story. That moment of realization was so delightful for me. Even if I had known beforehand, I still would have enjoyed it—but the surprise definitely added an extra layer of joy.
At the heart of the story is Ha Eun-Gyeol (Ryeo Un), a young man carrying the emotional traces of his past while trying to understand himself. Eun-Gyeol is the youngest son of a hearing-impaired couple and, unlike his parents and brother, he can hear. Overflowing with love for his family and passion for music, he faces a growing inner conflict: should he follow his dreams, or prioritize his family’s expectations?
One day, Eun-Gyeol mysteriously travels back to the 1990s, where he witnesses his family's youth and becomes part of a music band that will shape his life. One of the people he meets is Ha Yi-Chan (Choi Hyun-Wook), a passionate dreamer with a sensitive soul. Choi Hyun-Wook delivers an energetic and emotional performance as Yi-Chan—honestly, it was flawless. His expressions and natural acting style strongly reminded me of Park Seo-Joon. Watching him felt like seeing a young Park Seo-Joon in action. His performance once again proves why he's considered a rising star among young actors. The dynamic between the two leads is one of the strongest elements pulling the audience into the story. And honestly, just this Park Seo-Joon resemblance was enough to make me adore Choi Hyun-Wook. ♡❤
On the other hand, Yoon Chung-A (Shin Eun-Soo) also elevated the drama’s magic and quality. She holds a significant place in the lives of both Eun-Gyeol and Yi-Chan, delivering a pure and natural performance. Themes of love, friendship, and family ties are beautifully conveyed through her character. The use of sign language was portrayed realistically and clearly as well.
This isn’t just a time travel story—it’s a journey of self-discovery. Watching Eun-Gyeol’s bond with music, and witnessing his growth and transformation, leaves a deep impact. The strong emphasis on family dynamics also encourages viewers to reflect on their own connections and values. Throughout the series, the story highlights how choices made in the past shape the future. Watching how Eun-Gyeol’s experiences in the past influence his present makes this much more than a typical time travel drama. It pushes the audience to think about the impact of their own life choices. And personally, I usually find logical flaws in time travel plots that ruin the experience for me—but not here. All my questions were answered, and nothing bothered me.
Visually and aurally, Twinkling Watermelon is a stunning experience. The atmosphere is packed with meticulous details. Traveling to 1990s Korea through its sets, costumes, and music created a wonderful nostalgic journey. The use of music, in particular, played a key role—it wasn't just a background element but the very soul of the story. Each song intensified the emotional resonance of the scenes, making the audience feel even more connected.
Acting-wise, the show boasts a strong cast—not only the leads but the supporting characters, too. Every character contributes meaningfully to the story and keeps the audience engaged. From Choi Hyun-Wook to Ryeo Un, every cast member perfectly embodied their roles. I adored all of them.
Twinkling Watermelon appeals to audiences of all ages. As I said at the beginning, it fully deserves its place among the top 10. With its brilliant script, outstanding performances, and emotional depth, it's a drama that will be remembered for a long time. I loved the acting. I loved the script. I loved the cinematography. I loved it so much I can't even explain it. It was simply perfect. Everyone was phenomenal. Everyone! If you're looking for a story where moving narratives and music intertwine, you absolutely shouldn’t miss this one.

Viva La Vida
Twinkling watermelon has ended and now I don't know what to watch. My Mondays and Tuesdays aren't going to twinkle anymore now :(.
My thoughts on the ending : Keeping all the criticism about the ending aside, I think this was the best possible ending for everyone. Ha Eun Gyeol's family isn't struggling anymore as Ha Yi Chan and Yoon Cheong Ah are both successful, happy and charming as ever. Most importantly they are still in contact with their bandmates (their friends learned sign language for them and that's the cutest thing ever :( ). Ha Eun Gyeol doesn't feel 'burdened' anymore and can finally do what he always loved. On Eun Yu isn't suffering anymore either as she changed her mother's future which ended up changing her present as well. And Ha Eun Gyeol and On Eun Yu ENDED UP TOGETHERRR!!!

what exactly is the plot of the drama they're filming? if it's too spoilery, how about just a short description like you'd see when browsing netflix? and we already know it's historical, but is it more romance/court intrigue/melodrama?
It's going to be based on the actual kdrama The Red Sleeve, which admittedly I haven't watched haha. Long post ahead based on recaps I've read:
The title refers to the red sleeve cuff worn by court ladies to represent how they are the king's women. They are similar to ladies in waiting.
Essentially, it's the story of a Joseon dynasty king (Crown Prince Yi San who becomes King Jeongjo) and a court lady (Deok Im). It's based on historical records that mention how the court lady rejected the king twice, and how the king loved the court lady dearly. It has a mixture of romance, light-hearted shenanigans, melodrama, and courtly intrigue (i.e. everything you mentioned).
Deok Im is a smart and free-spirited orphan who was brought into the palace to become a court lady. As a child, she unknowingly rejects Yi San and when they coincidentally reunite as adults, she rejects his advances because she wants to live her life as freely as she can (while being a court lady) as opposed to the heavily restricted life of a royal concubine. The drama dives into the lives of court ladies by showing Deok Im's journey.
Yi San is the son of the allegedly mentally ill Prince Sado, who was ultimately executed by his own father, King Yeongjo (this is historically accurate). Because of this, Yi San faces difficulty with his own emotional trauma, his relationship with his grandfather, and trouble regarding whether he can inherit the throne or not.
Despite many barriers, they develop a strong relationship with each other and Deok Im struggles between choosing her love or her freedom.
SPOILERS FOR THE ENDING:
In the last few episodes of the drama, Deok Im eventually decides to be with Yi San, now King Jeongjo, and becomes his concubine. They no longer have to hide their love but now she is unable to leave the palace or hang out with her dear friends (fellow court ladies). She loves him but she's also lost a fundamental part of her identity. Her first child with the King falls ill and dies, and the resulting trauma of this leads to Deok Im dying while pregnant with her second child. Before she dies, she requests to see her friends but her wish is not granted. She then asks the king to please pass her by in their next lives so that she can live her life freely, and she dies.
Years later, the king (who's shown to never have fully recovered from her death) falls ill. He dreams of Deok Im and he decides to stay with her forever (and die) rather than wake up.
I'll be adapting the drama a lot more for Female Lee Seol than I will for Male Lee Seol.

The battle in the basement of the apartment building, where we see Nam-san use a shotgun to blast his way through some of the doctor’s ‘enhanced’ individuals, is a total exhilarating blast. Ma Dong-seok has been a powerhouse for most of his career post Train to Busan, but he sends people flying whenever he throws his fist or pulls the trigger. _Badland Hunters_ also has to break a record for most decapitations in a film. **Full review:** https://bit.ly/bdlndhntr MovieGuys: Badland Hunters does something things well, others just passably. Action is wall to wall and well choreographed.Special effects are excellent. Characterisations are solid if predictable and the acting is not to be sniffed at. However, the story is unremarkable, with a climax that feels, well, anti climatic. In summary, an okay but hardly exceptional watch, that would have benefited from more creativity on the storytelling front. Ritesh Mohapatra: “Badland Hunters: A Visually Striking Action Spectacle with Narrative Shortcomings” In this post-apocalyptic action thriller, Badland Hunters, while suffering from a repetitive and clichéd plot and uninteresting characters, excels in stunning hand-to-hand choreography and scintillating action set pieces. The film benefits greatly from the expertise of its veteran stunt coordinator turned director, known for his work on Train to Busan. Commendable world-building, visionary concepts, and excellent VFX are hindered by conventional writing. The short, crisply edited runtime avoids unnecessary elements. Don Lee’s exceptional portrayal of Nam-san, with exhilarating action sequences, overshadows the film’s narrative weaknesses, making it a guiltily satisfying popcorn-worthy entertainer, particularly for adrenaline enthusiasts.
