Yo @mystic-warriors here :3
I WANTED TO MAKE AN AU WITH BLUNDER AND FOLLY BECAUSE STFU I LOVE THEM
I finally finished the main story of 3 (so just 90% more game to go 💀) I know there’s some quests with blunder and folly which I have not yet done, but my friend told me after they turned into ghouls for like 5 minutes they gained the ability to see Yokai
BUT JUST HEAR ME OUT OK (more rant and art below vvv)
THIS AU IS BARELY THOUGHT OUT AND WILL PROBABLY JUST BE THE OCCASIONAL DOODLE DUMP BEFORE EVENTUALLY BEING ABANDONED BUT THIS AU IS KIND OF APART OF MY MAIN AU WITH MY OCS (comyst, Sam, saturn, etc) BACK ON MY MAIN @mystic-warriors so the events of the game didn’t even happen, (just pretend they’re researching other wacky shit around town ok again this was not well thought through just let me have this)
I like to think they’re in the same world as my main Au but I don’t have any plans of them actually meeting the protag comyst, they’re just off on their own doing their own shit, maybe they might reference or bump into eachother for a joke or something but that’s about it. (DONT EVEN START ON ASKING WHERE TF COMYST OR BLUNDER/FOLLY LIVE THEY JUST… IDK EXIST IN THE SAME PLANE OF EXISTANCE CLOSE ENOUGH LEAVE ME ALONE)
ANYWAYS now that you all understand that (TLDR) this Au is purely so I can give the two a team and draw them in wacky shenanigans while lore/plot is not a worry I MAY DOODLE DUMP
Also please excuse this awkward stage of me trying to figure out how tf to draw blunder and folly

Courtship
Read more here.
.
Ever since their little late night dinner date, there’s been a slight shift in how Okarun treats Miss Ayase. It was nothing too drastic a change, if anything, it was just a minor shift in their normal dynamic stemming entirely from him. An extra habit he’s now developing.
He’s been offering her food.
Very often.
Typically, he shares his own meal with her. Even when she has her own, he makes the offer. She initially always refuses and it saddens him until she relents and has at least a bite of his food.
It does make him happy, but he finds he always wants to give more. Give her all of it.
When he has the money to spare, he’ll buy her favorite candies and food.
When they have a big meal at the Ayase residence, he’ll grab some extra of what’s her favorite to share with her.
He really would give her all of it if he could, but she’s adamant in making sure he eats too.
And the sweet insistence just adds fuel to this fire.
And Okarun just doesn’t entirely get it.
But he also does on some instinctive level?
He really doesn’t know how to even explain it.
At least, until Turbo Granny grumbled at him in annoyance. “Can you save your fumbling courtship when you’re by yourselves?”
Okarun nearly dropped his plate. “C-courtship?!” Okarun stiffly turned to her, gawking. “I, I'm not courtin— well, we, we are dating so—”
“Don't lump our superior culture with your mundane rubble!” Turbo Granny snapped. “You're pursuing her as a yokai and it's embarrassing watching your blunders!”
Okarun blushed. “I, I didn't even realize…”
“Of course you didn't,” Turbo Granny sneered. “But now you know.”
“...Could you tell me about yokai courtship?” Okarun requested.
Turbo Granny gave him a big side eye. “Why should I?”
“Because I'm fumbling around,” Okarun answered, a little more confident now, though his cheeks were still rather pink. “And how am I to know if I'm courting in front of you? This is all new to me.”
Humming aloud, Turbo Granny agreed, “Listen well then, Four Eyes. Yokai courtship is perilous. It comes about only to those who are ready to give it their all, or to perish in their failure. And I do mean perished in the murdered sense.”
“I'm going to die if I fail?!” Okarun proclaimed.
Well, he could believe it. If Miss Ayase said she never wanted anything to do with him, he would be devastated. The mere thought alone almost had him transform.
Turbo Granny rolled her eyes. “Yes, a few weaklings will die of heartbreak, but most are murdered for wasting time!”
“Oh,” he uttered. Well, he doesn't have to worry about that at least.
“Yokai courtship is also incredibly trying, a true test of resilience, want, and one's ego.”
“Really?” Gosh, that sounds intimidating. What was Okarun in for?
“Yes, for courtship is the hardest thing for yokai to do.”
Okarun gulped as Turbo Granny paused for dramatic effect.
“Yokai courtship comes down to devotion.”
Okarun stared. Then blinked as Turbo Granny's words clicked in his mind.
“Eh?” he uttered, “That's it?”
Turbo Granny smacked his thigh, snapping, “Don't say ‘that's it’ like it's nothing! Where's your pride as a yokai?!”
“Sorry! Sorry!” he soothed.
“The vessel of my power,” Turbo Granny grumbled.
“What do you mean devotion?” Okarun asked. He blushed red. “D-do you mean, like, kis-kissing—”
“It's a broad definition,” Turbo Granny said. “At the core, it comes down to you being devoted to another. Sometimes it comes down to physical and sexual pleasure.”
Okarun's blush went redder.
“Sometimes it comes down to service, provision, protection; it's putting another over yourself. Giving away something that should be yours, be it food, energy, time; anything.”
“Oh.”
Turbo Granny gave him a side eye. “We yokai are proud entities. It takes a lot for us to swallow our pride and lower ourselves to another.”
“So, when I’m giving Miss Ayase food…”
“It's one of your courting methods, yes. You’re also quick to protect and obey her orders. Carrying her around like some horse. You act like she's your entire world.” Turbo Granny rolled her eyes and scoffed.
Well, he supposed she wasn't wrong. Miss Ayase was his world, she was very precious to him, and much of what she wanted he would give and more. The thought had him smile, it just felt right.
And, he knew he was important to her too. That he was treasured and valued. Such attention and affection was so rare in his life, he couldn't help but cling to her, have all she wanted to give, and return it a hundred fold.
“You should take a page from me,” Turbo Granny voiced, “be courted instead. She likes you enough that she'd do it, I bet.”
Okarun had a start. He exclaimed in surprise, “ You're being courted?!”
Turbo Granny gave his leg a smack for his insolence. “Of course I am! Do you realize how much of a catch I am?!”
“Yes, you are,” Okarun appeased, “um, who's courting you then?”
Was some strange yokai visiting the Ayase residence? He didn't like that thought…
“Who do you think?” Turbo Granny scoffed, then pointed at Ayase-san.
“Ayase-san?!” he gasped in surprise. “She's courting you?!”
“She cooks and feeds me,” Turbo Granny revealed. “Pretty unprompted, but sometimes I bring her food.”
“...But, Turbo Granny, I think she's just feeding you.”
“Hah! One does not simply feed a yokai! It's her means of worshipping me. That she desires me! And as a show of pleasing me, I join her on her outings. And sometimes I'll supervise you brats because she likes you.”
“That's nice of you,” he offered. “Um, what about when you get your power back?”
“Clearly, this will be my new territory. Usually the one who does the devotion lives in that yokai's territory, if their devotion is accepted, but I'll make an exception for Seiko given her power and situation.” Turbo Granny gave Okarun a sneer. “You better offer me a lot of respect boy, for what will be hers will be mine, and this territory belongs to Seiko instead of Momo. Even if you move in, this won't be your turf.”
That sparked off something competitive in Okarun, something heated. This was where Momo lived. And instinctively, he felt a sense of protectiveness, a sense to claim this place as his, just as much as it was hers. And as these feelings ran so strongly, Okarun couldn't stop the words that were uttered aloud.
“But Miss Ayase has already accepted my affections, so I have more claim to this territory now. You aren't official with Ayase-san yet.”
Turbo Granny's eyes went huge. “Hah?!” she spat, hissing a little.
Okarun turned to her, eyes gleaming red. “This is my territory, not yours.”
Turbo Granny was on her feet, her own teeth bared. “You wanna go at it, Four Eyes? I'll murder you—”
Turbo Granny toppled over a speeding mochi that was thrown her way.
And a second smacked the shifting Okarun, knocking him over as well.
The two speed yokai laid on the ground, stunned in surprise. They heard Ayase-san call out sternly, “I'll have no territorial disputes over dinner!”
“Yes, ma'am,” they both uttered.
They sat up, eating the mochi and settling to glaring at each other quietly. This was not over.

HUZZAH I found another yokai watch fan!!!
Yokai watch has a lot of references in it, like blasters, Deadcool, and the Y files, what is your favorite?
YESSSSSSS FELLOW YKW FAN HIIIIIIIII HOPPING UP AND DOWN
ykw has so many pop culture references that it feels CRIMINAL to try and pin down just one so ill run down a list of my particular favs
-the entirety of blasters but ESPECIALLY the original theme of whismellowman in the japanese version of the games, where theyre shouting "GHOS BASAS" in the background as a homage to the actual GB theme. like most referential things in blasters it got changed for copyright reasons but like..... that was CAMP. they ate w that
-everything about terminyanator like im honestly so obsessed. as if robonyan wasn't enough we just get a full on ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER CAT like thats beautiful
-im like 99% sure the start of sighborg Y's theme is a reference to the start of the Flintstones theme. I have like no confirmation for this but they sound so similar that it just FEELS like its on purpose.
-master nyada is peak and I wouldnt want him any other way. hes perfect
-everything abt deadcool. chefs kiss. ryan reynolds yokai
-fundango being a reference to Lucky Ikeda is really cute . cat on the head and all
-PAUSE WAIT OH MY GOD MARK OCKERBERG AND STEVE JAWS ARE SO FUCKING FUNNY EVERYTIME I REMEMBER THEM I START CACKLING INEXPLICABLY
-blunder and folly are so goofy I love their inclusion in ykw3's plotline even if it doesnt amount to much
BUT THATS JUST POP CULTURE REFERENCES, if I were to talk about my favorite mythological references we'd be here all day bc im a nerd who thinks abt things too much
#yo kai watch#yokai watch#yo-kai watch#ask :)#oh ykw I love you and your incredibly specific references#its the family guy cutaway gag of monster collector games. I have no idea if that makes sense. it better

Sworn to Devotion: Chapter 1 - Part 4
>> Without hesitation, Donnie sucker-punches the assailant in the stomach.

(Art by @lovelyladylavie)
Could this day get any worse?
It had been a pleasant day outside. April had watched the dense foliage of the forest—familiar and comforting—pass by within the safety of her royal carriage. And while it was nice to hear the familiar chirps and songs of the birds native to her kingdom, it could not distract her from her tumultuous thoughts.
No, all she could focus on were thoughts of her future. How this might be one of the last times she would see the familiar forest and mountains of her home. How she was being married off—for her kingdom—to the Crown Prince of Terrapathia, whom her people have had on-and-off wars with for decades.
But her father desperately wanted peace and stability. The Hamatos—the royal family of Terrapathia—seemed to have similar goals as well. So a marriage between her and the Crown Prince was arranged to symbolize peace and prosperity for the kingdoms and their people.
Of course, there would not be any peace or prosperity for her.
April’s stomach churned as she remembered the conversation she had with her father about the marriage—she had very little input on the matter. She was to be married off, a mere pawn on the political chessboard, whether she liked it or not.
At least Prince Raphael was kind.
She'd spent a little over a week in the foreign kingdom, meeting with her husband-to-be, his father, and a few other lords and ladies April couldn’t bother to remember the names of. While Prince Raphael was a towering beast of a yokai—a snapping turtle close to eight feet in height—he was surprisingly gentle and respectful of her.
He listened to her far more than her own father, though that was not a high bar to pass. It was still surprising, considering their kingdoms’ history.
But still, how would she be treated after she was married and stuck with the Crown Prince? Was he just putting on an act in front of everyone?
Would he–
She didn’t have the time to finish the next question plaguing her mind when the sound of crows surrounded the carriage, halting her entourage in its place. There was some shouting, and one of the yokai guards announced they would investigate the disturbance. When she had peaked her head closer to the window, she noticed that the turtle yokai dressed in purple—the one who had glared at her from behind Raph during important meetings—had ventured off into the forest. The other yokai guards looked on alert as well, some watching their brother-in-arms while others looked around the carriage for signs of mischief.
Well, at least the yokai guards were committed to fulfilling their sworn duty to defend her, even if she wasn’t their queen yet.
It was probably nothing…
But then all hell broke loose.
The next moments are a blur, but April quickly finds herself being ripped from her carriage by black-robed assailants. She puts up a fight, kicking and punching at anyone who gets close to her. But she can’t fight in these foofy royal dresses she has to wear, so it’s all in vain. One of the kidnappers manages to get a firm grip on her and rips her from the carriage—no amount of continued struggle weakens his hold.
As fear truly starts to grip April’s heart, she notices a yokai guard—the same one as before—racing toward her. For a brief second, April feels a brief sense of relief that someone armed and ready is coming to her defense.
That is until the purple-clad idiot decides to sucker-punch one of her kidnappers in the stomach rather than use his katana.
“Idiot! You have a sword!” April screams, bewildered that this is the choice that the yokai guard thought to be appropriate.
But neither of them has time to consider the tactical blunder. The yokai guard grabs her arm just as a red glass orb drops from the hand of the winded kidnapper. No one has time to catch the object, and it shatters upon impact with the ground, surrounding them in red smoke.
Despite not moving, April’s stomach drops as the sensation of falling overwhelms her. She grips her kidnappers, if only for some stability, as the smoke swirls around them. The smoke dissipates, disappearing in whisp-like patterns to reveal they’re in some sort of cave. Daylight is filtering in behind them, so the entrance must be close by.
“Dude! This ain’t headquarters!” One of the kidnappers shouts.
“Well, I didn’t exactly have time to–ahh!!!”
The other black-clothed assailant is unable to finish his retort before a katana plunges straight into his chest. He lets go of April and falls to the ground, mortally wounded. The other kidnapper pulls her away from the yokai guard, his arm firmly around April’s midsection as his other hand fishes for something in his pocket.
“Shit! Wrong thing!”
April watches as something neon green enters her peripheral vision and sails through the air toward the yokai guard. He blocks, but whatever it is breaks and spreads on the blade, consuming the metal rapidly. He curses and drops the handle of the katana, as that is all that remains.
Before April can say something snarky about how the kidnapper is bad at his job, the steel of a small dagger appears in front of her, its tip pointed at her throat.
“D-don’t move! Or the princess gets it!”
The guard halts in his tracks, eyes fixed on the man behind her. As the guard and black-clad assailant begin their staring contest, it gives April enough time to reassess her situation.
Then April decides to… >> Bite the arm of the kidnapper.

Paramount Animation Annecy drop...
Turns out, they seem to be keen on doing animated features that aren't based on massive IP. Adapting smaller properties and such, things that didn't already get movie adaptations, truly original stories, ya know?
Projects that were in our orbit for a while, such as SUPERWORLD, got a mention. REAL PIGEONS FIGHT CRIME is still on, as is Leo Matsuda's former DreamWorks picture YOKAI SAMBA, and MUTTNIK from Ron Howard's Imagine Entertainment, but everything else announced today is new. All of those sound like they could be pretty cool. I've wanted to see Matsuda take on a picture after doing the Disney Animation short INNER WORKINGS, whose design and style were unique to a lot of what that studio has put out over the past decade. MUTTNIK sounds great, too. I'm a sucker for a fun space adventure, and it's about a naughty dog, so... Yeah, Paramount, please give me this one.
There's DROPZ, which Variety called an E.T.-esque adventure directed by Rob Letterman and produced by Will Ferrell and... Bad Bunny, of all people. Paramount Animation/Nickelodeon Animation head Ramsey Naito describes it as a story "infused with fashion", a "cultural statement" for the family audience. So is this the cosmos meets apparel? What do they mean by "fashion", haha.
ONCE UPON A MOTORCYCLE DUDE looks like another trip to the "fractured fairy tale" well with a MAD MAX-esque twist, about a princess described as a "bad ass", and a "post-apocalyptic motorcycle dude" who have to take action when their kingdom is in danger. This also sounds like a lot of fun, and the first thing I thought of... For whatever reason, was the final part of the SPYRO: YEAR OF THE DRAGON level Charmed Ridge... Where the fairy princess goes off with a magician cat on a motorcycle, GREASE-style. (Hey, GREASE is a Paramount movie, too!) Only a producer is attached, so this one looks to be in the baby stages.
SWAN LAKE is also on the rails, from writer Kourtney Kang. Even though we have SWAN PRINCESS and a Barbie direct-to-video adaptation, hey, why not? What's another way they can tell this story? All we know so far is that it's "modern". Modern day or modern in attitude only?
Before we can get to those, 2025 and 2026 are filled with the sequels and franchise entries: SMURFS Again, SPONGEBOB 4, the first of those 2D AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER movies, PAW PATROL 3, and MUTANT MAYHEM 2. This is nice news after it seemed like Paramount Animation put the kibosh on more original and more risky animated films, and especially after how they quietly dumped UNDER THE BOARDWALK and THE TIGER'S APPRENTICE.
But that's the thing, when the IP wells run a bit dry, you gotta have something different waiting for you. It's been frustrating watching Paramount trip its way through trying to sustain a run of animated movies, post-DreamWorks distribution deal. After how well SPONGE OUT OF WATER did in 2015, it was false start after false start, and lots of blunders in-between. MUTANT MAYHEM was a real bright spot, though, and TRANSFORMERS ONE looks pretty fun. They screened the whole thing at the festival to pretty positive reactions, so that's nice.
If I were to guess when they could all be coming out, should they reach production...
2026-2027 I'd say would be the earliest, for a movie like SUPERWORLD or REAL PIGEONS FIGHT CRIME. YOKAI SAMBA, too, since that was on the boards at DreamWorks as far back... As like, 2018? I expect those three to be out first. DROPZ sometime thereafter.
Then 2028 and beyond for the rest, the films that don't have directors attached. MUTTNIK, MOTORCYCLE DUDE, and SWAN LAKE...
We shall see, but this line-up is great, has some really cool talent involved, and it'll be nice to see this stuff balance out the well-established TRANSFORMERS/NINJA TURTLES/SMURFS/AVATAR stuff.

👀 Velour!
Velour was curled up on the couch of the Takami estate library, an old spellbook in his hands and a couple more stacked on the side table next to him.
Across from him was Viltau, conducting his own study into Eastern Alternian folklore. Him and Jikiro were planning on visiting a mountain where the bloodline's guardian yokai resided, so he had been studying as many books on the subject as he could find. With the amount of free time Velour had now, and how often Viltau liked to visit his matesprit's hive, it was quite common for the two of them to be spending time like this together.
The blueblood hummed as he turned the page, the enchanted glasses he was wearing instantly translating all text into Standard. This particular spellbook was full of annotations, all comments about how certain spells should be cast and what ink should be used for the best effect, as well as some personal opinions on the usefulness for each spell. However, there was one annotation that caught his eye...
"Huh. 'Read this out loud for a fun surprise'? Which spell are they referring to?"
Just as he said that, the ink on the page lights up, shifting in multiple colours and making tiny sparks, and he could have sworn he just heard the text itself laugh.
Ah.
It was the annotation itself that had been enchanted, not a note about one of the spells on the page. It was a fun surprise to watch it light change colour, he admits, but he can't help but worry that maybe the spell did more than just change colours. Tanuki are known for their pranks, after all.
"Hey, Viltau, do you notice anything different? I think I've, ah... Triggered a prank spell." Velour asked, sheepish to admit his blunder.
The indigoblood looked up from his own book, and almost did a double take.
Presumably it must be an illusion if Velour didn't immediately notice the fact that his head must feel a lot lighter, given how in place of his horns were now a pair of cute, fluffy tanuki ears.
The cuspblood did not, in fact, realise, but could tell by the look on his friend's face that something did happen.
"Oh no, it's something strange, isn't it? Did it change the colour of my hair? Make my face break out in spots? Put some rude words on my forehead?" Velour fretted, then shut the spellbook and began looking through his modus for a compact mirror.
Viltau chuckled and shook his head, then waved his hand to signify that the cuspblood shouldn't worry. Sure, he could be truthful, but he knows that Velour's spells tend to wear off, and that Jikiro or Hanabi would likely know a counter-spell if the illusion stuck around for too long. He doubted there'd be any serious consequences, and besides. It would be funnier if he could lure Velour into a false sense of security until someone else showed up to reveal what really happened.
He smiled his usual well-practiced, reassuring smile.
"Hardly anything worth worrying about, I believe, and certainly none of those things. Perhaps I'm simply the one who is seeing things, in fact."
#asks#whispertrolls#drabble#velour#viltau espino#yeah sure ill use this askmeme as an excuse to write some stupid magic shenanigans#obvs the spell would wear off but not before vel got spotted by someone else on the estate and promptly died of embarrassment LMAO

I have been living with this info for like a year and I desperately need to inform someone of it and you have talked about the x files on my dash so I will impart this info to you.
The video game yokai watch 3 has those two from the x files in it. They’ve been renamed to blunder and folly but they are literally just those dudes from the x files and their names in other languages just slightly change mulder and scullys names in different ways. The opening scene is them talking to each other about the y files. They’re just in the fucking game. They are reoccurring minor characters following the main characters trail throughout the whole game. They are just in there. John Lennon is also there. Also mark zuckerberg. Also moogle. It’s bizarre in an amazing way. Whenever I see someone talk about x files all of this information rushes into my brain. Thank you for listening to my cut down infodump. I think your art style is very nice and I like your art.
I? Oh my god? What is it with Mulder and Scully that just makes people want to take them and put them in their franchise? These guys are everywhere.
Thank you for this information, I actually have this game I just haven’t gotten to playing it yet skhfgjfhg I bought it before I was done with 1 and 2, but I can’t wait to one day see these guys running around in the silly yokai universe. I love those games.
Also thank you for the art compliments I’m glad you like :-)
… Also also I’m scared about Mark Zuckerberg being in it

watching my cousin play yokai watch 3 was anyone gonna tell me the obvious x files parody of blunder and folly and the y files

blunder and folly are honestly the best characters in yokai watch 3 because they just show up and blunder goes "yeah shit's fucked. because of the aliens" and folly replies "shut the fuck up you're the dumbest motherfucker alive blunder" and then they disappear again and you dont see them until they need them to come back and repeat that process again

everyday I wonder if david duchovny and gillian anderson are aware that caricatures of them ended up in yokai watch 3 as “fby” agents “blunder and folly”. (in the japanese version their names are maruder and kakully which are plays on round and square. that’s why their heads are shaped like that!)

Flowers for Requiem(Snowdrop)
Author's note :Deuces part in the yokai au, poor buddy going through it
Characters: Tengu!Deuce Spade, Reader
Warnings: yandere behavior (its yandere au!) nothing graphic but be aware!
-----
for contest please check out the other posts for this au!
Grim / Ace
-----
Deuce Spade- Snowdrop - Hope
The first time Deuce had the fortune of laying his eyes on you he was about 30 feet in the sky, and promptly plummeted to the ground from shock. (He remembered the bubbly giddiness of finally meeting you and the enamored rush from your duty that knocked him clean out of the sky.) Yet as he cracked into the ground (and ace) he could think of nothing but the color of your eyes.
He had heard the tales of yokai and their master, of the fervent worship that defensive type yokai would fall into but he never truly understood. Not until now, with the all-consuming need to fall to your feet, or the urge to scoop you up and make sure the unjust earth never dirtied you. (Were you hungry? Thirsty? Did you want anything at all? He'll provide it for you!) (-hed bleed for you-)
The rope is heavy around his neck, and it's embarrassing how hot his face feels when you wrap it around his neck delicately. He almost drops to his knees when your skin brushes his neck and robs him of strength. He only managed to steady himself from the fear of startling you. You couldn't leave, not when he barely found you (please never leave.)
It was a naive sentiment he supposes because yokai all outlive their masters inevitably. Humans and Yokai live never mesh well. (But you weren't supposed to go, not like this, not with your cooling body on the ground in a puddle of red cooling-cooling- cold cold-) He doesn't have time to mourn, as he rounds up the others and tries to calm them. (He doesn't want to confront the ugly fear of being in a godless world)
But in the calm of his room, where he cannot interpret others' emotions as his own, he feels the void open and strips him of his will (to live, to die, to breathe, to decompose, to do anything). He does not cry (he doesn't deserve to). He won't neglect his duties. (He won't fail you again, master.)
A shrine is built for you, in your honor. (To ask for forgiveness) Sometimes he thinks he can see your figure kneeling next to the empty casket smiling peacefully as you watch them toil. (You had disappeared along with Grim during the chaos, he doesn't think he'll ever be able to truly repent for his failure.)
He makes his rounds dutifully. (There is no time for the pain building like a dam in his chest.) No one is the same, Ace barely has any of his energy, the others rage blunders his senses into an ugly amalgamation of desperate yearning that claws at him every day. (He thinks he deserves it, he'd still bleed for you.)(-does he even deserve to?-) But he cannot fail again, he cannot fail you again.
Ace disappears, and he finally breaks. (Why is everyone leaving, why can't he protect them, why isn't he doing better, he has to be better-) Malleus smiles from the side and gives the cryptic message to wait. (And he's always been reliable. So he does.) Ace comes back in a strange uniform and a mischievous smile (just like how he used to be when… when-)
Behind him, the mirror shows an image of another Ace, covered in scratches and wide eyes, by his side a boy with his face. (something burns when he realizes this stranger has taken a place by your side.) But none of that mattered, nothing else mattered but the figure kneeling by him that was unmistakably you. (He had another chance, and he promises he'll give you the world this time.)
He'll do better this time, so please don't leave again.
Going through the gate is a disconcerting experience, even with Ace leading him by his hand. Before he can gather his bearings he meets your eyes and he feels the air in his feathers as he falls (not physically this time but the weight that drops from his shoulders might as well be free fall.) He pays no attention to the squawk the other versions of his family make, Ace guards them away as he crawls towards you, unable to find the proper strength to stand up. (He'll apologize for the unsightly scene later, but for now, indulge him a bit please.) The ground stings against his knees and hands, but you reach out and caress his face. He feels warmth and wetness fall from his face. (And so he cries.)
“Master I-” I'm sorry, forgive me, punish me as you see fit. I'm so sorry. He prays against you, an acolyte in the face of his deity. The words bleed from his tongue but you just smile as if confused before reaching to wipe his tears.
“There's nothing to forgive Deuce.” He loses the rest of the strength in his body and falls to your feet, weeping as you hold him close. His voice rips at his throat until it's raw, the tears sting his eyes and his entire body feels tight but he doesn't remember feeling as untethered since you left him. ( Repentance ripples through his flesh until he feels as if he's the air itself.) The comforting warmth of your hand against his skin soothes any sorrow and his rope feels right against his neck.

ghoulfather yokai watch is such a good villain can i just say that?? like when u first fight him n shit its just “oh hey this guy has been banished to space for 555 years and he hates people and is destroying shit to fit his image”
but then you learn more about him after his death?? and how he’d been cast out by even his own FAMILY when he was alive because he could see yokai, dying alone and becoming what he could see himself. and even when he was a yokai.. he was still cast out and ridiculed for seeing aliens in the sky once????? and so he just became bitter and hateful and wanted people to understand his side?? like dude?!??!? and then theres even the fucking X FILE bootleg character Blunder acting as a kind of fitting character to ghoulfathers plight, being someone who wants people to believe in what he sees too and not to mention his ability to make whatever he wishes a reality like bruh... such a good villain... rip ghouly he would’ve loved minecraft

Oh and also I thought about having that as a plot point in my hypothetical idea for a yokai watch comic. I thought a lot about how to give McKraken a bigger foreshadowing earlier on in the plot, and a backstory to explain why he's doing what he's doing. Naturally I went with the potential in his recolour boss Minister Squisker maybe being his uncle and there being a history behind their conflict.
Part of this was also gonna be that Mckraken is so strong because nobody knows where to find his yokai medal. (And he insists that he's never made one and he's just naturally powerful) But then it would turn out that Squisker is the guy holding his medal, and it was kinda hidden in the best place because who on earth could fight thru the whole infinite inferno and take down an even tougher boss to get it? And nobody would expect it to be with a guy who's literally his biggest enemy that he betrayed and imprisoned. But actually Squisker was really his adoptive parent before their big fight, and he still holds onto this keepsake medal and hopes that his nephew can be redeemed, even after all this pain. So the protagonist would find the medal and it's this beaten and worn old thing with an unrecognisable picture of the happy child he once was. And Squisker entrusts it to them and begs them to try and help his nephew find his way back to the path of good...
Oh and also part of this headcanon was that I was gonna try and balance out the whole "medals are a respawn spot if you die" thing, because why wouldn't everyone just make fifty billion and give them to everyone regardless of whether you're even friends or not?
So I thought maybe instead they can "save" you but it's more like a buff/shield defense thing? Like just generally your stats get boosted if someone has your medal. And the boost is bigger depending on how strong that person's soul is and how linked it is with yours i.e. friendship. And that's why when yokai equip other yokai's medals as soul gems they get those boosts! But the medals they give humans also work that way, and you're helping your yokai by caring about them :3
So sadly it'd mean that Squisker is forever physically unable to defeat his ultimate enemy and escape from his prison, because he can't stop loving his family and wishing McKraken would see the error of his ways. His hesitation to hurt his nephew literally means Mckraken is always gonna be sapping his powers and remaining one level stronger than him no matter what. Sticking the medal to the door of his prison cell was a horribly ironic punishment...
Oh and also this is why friendships with humans are desirable! Humans are considered less risky to befriend because they don't have their own medals. No chance of them being able to use your medal against you if they happen to turn out to be evil! And instead the compromise between humans and yokai becomes that the yokai will come to their aid, because humans can't fight very well without yokai friends. This knowledge that the human would be mostly harmless without you is kinda reassuring? And also makes humans have that adorable "I wanna protect you" feeling! And it's so cute and funny that they feel the same way about you! Imagine a lil kitty yokai being like "no you foolish human YOU are the cutie biscuit who deserves all the hugs!" Also of course it's just useful to have friends to help you get around in a confusing alternate world, a lot of yokai who just blunder in without a human's help will end up accidentally taking a candy bar without paying and getting seen as a dangerous monster. (It's my headcanon that Slimamander's original sin that caused him to get sealed was a mistake like this, and he just boasts about being the ultimate evil in earlier games cos he's embarrassed to admit it was Theft Of A Singular Apple In 300 AD)
Anyway this is my big and grand thesis on why whenever I think about how much I love Dimmy and Dr Maddiman they become stronger.
ALSO I finally decided on a name for my Dimmy and now their name is Ace! I spent so long looking thru websites of top 100 cool names and such, but then I was like "wait actually why don't I literally just say they are the coolest?" I was already calling them the ace of my team back when I didn't have a name, after all. And I like the idea of hugging this shy social anxiety friend and being like "noooo I insist you are so great" (and I am also anxiety so they probably do it back to me and I'm all NOOOOO)
God I love yokai watch

i saw you reblog a yokai watch post and i was /thinking/ of getting it, but i wanted to know whether you thought it was too easy? as in, "for LITTLE kids" easy (and i play a lot of "kids" games on ds, and i'm fine with those for the most part) or is it moderately challenging?
First off, if you’re going to get one of the YW games, make it a version of YW2 - it’s much bigger and better than the first and is perfectly playable without having played the first. Psychic Specters is the “definitive” version (the Emerald to BS/FS’s Ruby and Sapphire), but Bony Spirits/Fleshy Souls are generally cheaper these days.
But as for difficulty, I’d say it varies - on its most basic level, yeah, it’s pretty easy. You’ll be able to make it through most of the main story content without much fuss (although I remember the difficulty spiking like mad at the very end). However, there’s a lot of postgame content and optional sidequests that are genuinely challenging. The battle system generally places more emphasis on team composition and preparation before battle (the yokai auto-attack, you manage their positions, handle items and buffs/debuffs, and target foes in real-time) - this has pros and cons. On one hand, it makes it really easy to brute-force through random battles, which can be a good thing or bad thing depending on the situation (it does make grinding a breeze tho). But later-game bosses and postgame content will kick your ass if you just blunder in blindly.
