Pale Angels: Hell by Henri Barbusse; After Dark by Haruki Murakami; All Adults Here by Emma Straub; The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides; Troubling Love by Elena Ferrante; Fango(Mud) by Niccolò Ammaniti.
I don't have any specific favorites, but here are several that I really loved reading: Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto; The Travelling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa; All the Birds, Singing by Evie Wyld; The Discomfort of Evening by Marieke Lucas Rijneveld; Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata; The Guest Cat by Takashi Hiraide; Almost Transparent Blue by Ryū Murakami;
That's it, I hope there are some nice ones in here you would like to read or have already read! <3

Note
i love how you answered the shimeji simulation ask! i'm really drawn to those types of stories too, with magical realism and surrealism. do you have any other manga similar to that that you'd recommend? (and on another note, any books outside of the usual lists?)
yes, absolutely! also i love that you asked about non-manga books too, i do actually have a goodreads that i use to keep track of what i read, although i'm not active there on the social side of things. but note some of the manga and novels (especially the novels) below are significantly darker in their surrealism than shimeji simulation gets, so beware if that's not your cup of tea.
manga:
8-gatsu no soda sui by shinya komatsu
kekyaaru-sha tenmatsuki by imiri sakabashira
an invitation from a crab by panpanya
the bitter orange, translucent it goes back to sleep by youichi abe

the alchemist of turandot by hiroyuki katou and keisuke gotou
G by keiichi koike
there’s nothing wrong with me by natsujikei miyazaki

mia - neverland above the clouds by wubao
taichou to watashi by takashi kurihara
bad candy you give me by kaiko fuyushimi

Midnight Diner (2009) [La Cantina de Medianoche, Shinya shokudo]
Tumblr media
¡Atención, esta crítica contiene alguos spoilers!
Título original: Shinya shokudô
Dirección: Joji Matsuoka, Nobuhiro Yamashita
Guion: Katsuhiko Manabe, Kôsuke Mukai, [Historia: Yaro Abe (manga)]
Elenco: Kaoru Kobayashi, Toshiki Ayata, Mansaku Fuwa, Shohei Uno, Kiyobumi Kaneko, Takashi Yamanaka, Risa Sudo, Asako Kobayashi, Nahoko Yoshimoto, Joe Odagiri, Yuko Genkaku, Ryo Iwase, Tamae Ando, Yutaka Matsushige
País: Japón
Año: 2009
Tempordas: 5

Mifune and Shimura in Kurosawa's SEVEN SAMURAI: The Father and the Son
Mifune and Shimura in Kurosawa’s SEVEN SAMURAI: The Father and the Son
Tumblr media
If you haven’t read “Toshiro Mifune, and Akira Kurosawa’s “NORA INU / STRAY DOG”, please check that out first. Next, read Takashi Shimura, and Akira Kurosawa’s RASHOMON. This post is a continuation of those thoughts.
If I’ve wrtten at all the way I think it sounds in my head, by now you’re starting to get a sense that Kurosawa is using these two actors, Mifune and Shimura, to make a point. He’s…

(Kirin ga Kuru)
For @toreishi
Tumblr media
The 2020 Taiga Drama will depict the life of Mitsuhide under Nobunaga’s rule. It’s said that the theme or motif of the title ‘Kirin”, “ 如何にして何れの英雄の前に現れる “ ---  how the appearance of the “kirin (horned beast) will foretell a hero’s story.
Kirin somehow symbolizes two things:
1) A beast summoned to slay another beast  2) A premonition of passing sage or leader
Based on these, it’s similar to how Mitsuhide is seen: a loyal Ashikaga retainer or of Oda.
Kazama Shunsuke (4TOPS; Johnny’s Ent) is Tokugawa Ieyasu, Osamu Mukai as Ashikaga Yoshiteru, and  Sasaki Kuranosuke as Hashiba (Toyotomi) Hideyoshi ----> This is new! A very tall Hideyoshi.  With Sasaki Kuranosuke as Hideyoshi, I can somehow see that they will paint a villanous streak here.
