#you can throw stones for vaporeon

My main Quest is of course writing this adorable piece of literature about the Zombie-Duo, however.... I get sidetracked... A LOT, which is probably why this shit takes like, ages to finish... what I also do is replay Pokemon Crystal and Yellow (yk the old one for Game Boy) and what does my brain do?
EXACTLY it plans the Pokemon Team for these two idiots.
I googled, I found some images, which I will not upload bc it's from some sort of article and other stuff and what I IMMEDAITELY loved was like Kakuzu... with like 5 eeveelutions and a banette floating around.
Like yeah I get it, the Bannette for the ragdoll or voodoo theme but... he had an UMBREON and ESPEON... you might think like "Yeah... so what? Whats your problem?"
THE FUCKING FRIENDSHIP
You can throw your stones at the other eevees to get them to evolve but... those two?
Nah man... this requires LOVE

Ok ok i haven't seen anyone talk about this yet but i just noticed
There are 8 eeveelutions and a max of 6 pokemon per team so of course penny would be missing two. but specifically which two are she missing? espeon and glaceon
because penny is shy and reclusive and seldom goes out during the day she never got to evolve an eevee during daytime. and since she just stays in her room most of the time and doesn't go very far she never got an ice stone which can only be found in the mountain peaks.
Ooooooh. I actually did a little digging and fun fact!
There's only two places you could get a leaf stone to evolve leafeon in sword and shield. And by that I mean two places that would make sense for Penny to get them. One in Turrfield and the other is through pokejobs. So either Penny is from Turrfield or, and the most likely option, Penny often sent out her pokemon - her veevees- on pokejobs!
Doing even more digging, I actually found out that all the stone eeveelutions that Penny has ( Jolteon, Flareon, Vaporeon and Leafeon) have their evolutionary stones available as something a pokemon can bring back. Ice stone is the only one that isn't. So yeah, I don't think Penny is from Turrfield, it would be very funny if she was. Hmmm maybe Wyndon? Motosoke? Throwing a bone for the " Penny is Peony's daughter" theorist, Freezington?
Honestly, my eyes have been open, and the attention to detail to Penny's pokemon ( if intentional) is bonkers.
Now I'm imagining that process. Like Penny sends out her Eevees to do some pokejobs for her and when they come back they all have evolved. Due to being exposed to a particular stone. The only ones that haven't are Umbreon and Sylveon, which is kinda sweet when you think about it.
Tdlr: The attention to detail of Penny's team is honestly really cool.

In an AU with Pokemon, if someone was sent by the TFs to deal with him, Lord Night having an Umbreon could be an easy way to tell that something is up because Umbreon is one of the 3 of Eevee's evolution paths that requires happiness to evolve. You can't just throw a stone at it like Flareon, Vaporeon, Jolteon, Glaceon, or Leafeon, that Eevee has to lose and trust you before it will even think of evolving into Espeon, Umbreon, or Slyveon. So if this guy is so evil and terrible, why does he have a Pokemon like that? Something isn't adding up.
Also for fun maybe the Umbreon is shiny so it has some blue to match Night.
Oooo that’s very interesting! I kinda like that tbh. I can absolutely see him having one of those. I’ve seen umbreons before and they absolutely look like something he’d find very cute.

Pokemon Yellow "Free to Play" Run Part 1
Here we go. Rules are pretty straight forward. Only use gift Pokemon, no beneficial glitches allowed.
Tumblr media
Here we go again.
Now. Where did I leave off the last time I played this thing? According to my last save state...
Tumblr media
Oh, that's right. This was a Pikachu and a Mew merged together. So this was a Pikachu shaped Mew so it has Surf and Fly to test the Pikachu sprites. And apparently, since it's a Pikachu shaped Mew, it couldn't refuse a Thunderstone. ... So it's not a Pikachu anymore, huh? That means...
Tumblr media
Get the f*ck out of here. Finally, I got rid of that thing once and for all.
Now I can start a brand new run with no regrets.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, I don't have enough space nor do I have access to numbers, so I can't name myself as "F2P" or "Free2Play" or anything like that. So FTP, or Free To Play.
So then my asshead rival has to be...
Tumblr media
Pay To Win. Or at least, he's going to pay to try to win. What a shmuck.
If I recall, the first fight against this guy and the second optional fight determines what his Eevee becomes. Lose both to get Vaporeon, the easiest of the three. Win one for Flareon, and win both for him to get Jolteon, the hardest of the three.
Tumblr media
Hmm... So I guess I should throw this fight?
... Nah. What's the worst that could happen?
Since I'm not allowed to catch anything, I only have Pikachu for a while. So how do I beat Brock? ... It's cheese time. Spam Double Team, Tail Whip, and then smack around his stones... er... Rock types.
Tumblr media
... I somehow forgot that these guys existed. I still only have Pikachu here. Spam Double Team!
Tumblr media
Who needs Thunderbolt? Even Misty's Starmie is no match for this finely aged filthy cheddar.
Tumblr media
... The perp is literally one square away from this screen. He's right there. You guys aren't trying too hard are you? Of course the police force has "trouble". As in, they only bother with the low ranking grunts, as arresting the higher ups create a power imbalance, which may instead result in a massive gang war.
Tumblr media
... Ever wonder WHY this international police agent is on this cruise ship, on the trail of Team Rocket? ... Does Team Rocket own or run the harbor? ... Maybe this is why Lt. Surge is a Team Rocket admin in Pokemon Special.
Tumblr media
This old captain, who must've spent decades traveling by ship, got seasick on a cruise ship that hadn't even left the harbor yet. ... Are you like... just pretending to be a ship captain? Are you actually a Team Rocket executive? You are the Cut Master. ... An odd thing for a ship captain, but not so odd for a dagger wielding yakuza...
Tumblr media
Is it really a gift if I just barge in here and take this Eevee without getting permission from this beefed up "teacher" who has no students? ... There is a single table for one. So this is like a private tutor for a student whose Eevee I'm just taking.
Well, it's mine now. Time to get a Thunderstone and...
Tumblr media
... Is it now? Do I have to merge this with a Magikarp or something to get it to obey?
Tumblr media
Jolteon has 1 lower level, has no stat experience, and yet has higher stats across the board. Pikachu also only has Thunderbolt and Quick Attack as offense. Jolteon gets Thunderbolt (TM 24), Pin Missile, Double Kick, AND Quick Attack! ... Which means...
Tumblr media
Get the f*ck out of here. ... Also, Jolteon's Pokedex number is 135, so obviously I'm going to use that instead.
So far, I'm only really using Charizard and Jolteon. I need access to Cinnabar Island to get two more team additions.
Tumblr media
So this is a blatantly public Rocket Clan subsidiary that's in charge of the gambling hall. This old patriarch here doesn't bother to hide what he's doing either. And there are Rocket grunts just walking around in public! What's Erika doing about this? ... Oh that's right. She's basically high off of the "fumes" of Grass types. I'm surprised that Erika wasn't a Rocket admin in Pokemon Special too, in charge of dru- I mean, aromatherapy.
Sheesh. Rocket thugs are everywhere in Celadon City. You'd think this is where the Clan HQ is. Maybe Erika should've been another Rocket admin.
Tumblr media
Which would make over half of the Kanto Gym Leaders a part of Rocket. They truly are the yakuza of the Pokemon world.
Tumblr media
... Ever wonder why this guy locked the access gates to Saffron City? You don't just lock down a city for no reason. It's not like there's a massive construction or anything. The only thing happening in Saffron City is a Rocket invasion of Silph Co, which isn't a reason to lock the city. Curious. Even more curious that this guy will let you go through when you bribe him with water. It implies that he hasn't been told to lock the city by "proper" authority...
Tumblr media
Bump and scam? "Ow, I think you broke my shoulder! I'm going to need 100 000 P for hospital fees!" Also, why are Rocket grunts blocking access to Sabrina's Gym? ... That's probably the reason why she's a Rocket admin in Pokemon Special.
Tumblr media
Hey, punk. ... Hey, didn't you have a Spearow and a Raticate?
Tumblr media
... Did you know that you could access the PC in the president's room of Silph Co? Because I didn't until now. How many years have I...
Tumblr media
... Why aren't you looking at me when talking to me? ... Why does no one look at me when talking to me in this generation?
Also, ever wonder WHY and HOW the chairman of the Rocket Clan is a Gym Leader, an official title? To the point where the Victory Road guards won't let you pass until you got this guy's acknowledgement? So the Pokemon League is deliberately not bothering with Team Rocket activities. The entire Pokemon League structure involves the head of Team Rocket. No wonder the Elite Four were bad guys in Pokemon Special.
Tumblr media
So here's my team so far. I'm right before Victory Road, and... Why is my team either critically weak to Jolteon, or is Jolteon? Lapras, Charizard, Aerodactyl, and Omastar are weak to Electric. Hitmonlee has base 35 Special, and Jolteon has base 110 Special, so Hitmonlee will get blasted into shreds by a single Sp. Atk. Hmm... I don't have other options though. ... Why, oh why, did I not throw two fights against the street punk rival at the start? Why do I keep doing this to myself? Why is it that in all my Yellow version runs that do not involve Mew, my team is critically weak to Jolteon? My last glitch-free run utilized Starmie and Charizard and I got blasted by the level 65 Jolteon at the end.
Now, you could say "why not use Venusaur since it resists Thunder", but... did you know? Venusaur is 4x weak to Bug in Generation I (Grass is weak to Bug, and Poison is weak to Bug in Generation I). And the strongest and only real Bug type move that exists in Generation I is Pin Missile, which Jolteon gets. The other two being Twinneedle (Beedril exclusive) and Leech Life which does about 4 damage until SM. So Venusaur would get shredded by Pin Missile. Which means, all three Kanto starters are critically weak to Jolteon.
I could try leveling Aerodactyl since it's the one thing that has a hope to outrun Jolteon. But... did you know? In Generation I, Aerodactyl can't learn Rock Slide or Earthquake. ... I guess I'll give it Hyper Beam and just try to blast Jolteon before it inevitably dies in a single hit. And then I'll just have to out-Jolteon the Jolteon with Jolteon.
Welp. That's a future me problem. ... Future me as in like... 2 days.

A playlist of random songs I like (I put this playlist on shuffle 99% of the time):
My Favorite Book Series:
Wings of Fire
Specifically the third arc, I just love the concept of HiveWings, SilkWings, and LeafWings. But the last two books sorta spiraled into absurdity for me, I would have preferred a simple rebellion story, not a "the world is in danger and we have to save it!" type story. But overall, the third arc is still my favorite.
How I discovered I was a dragon:
Saphira (movie version) helped me figure out what I look like! While I'm not part of the Eragon universe, I share many physical traits with Saphira. Sometimes when I hyperfixate on dragon stuff, it makes me question whether it's a kintype or not, so I usually have to wait for the hyperfixation to fade before I can really tell. Usually, it means this kintype-like feeling fades with the hyperfixation. Not so with my silver Saphira-like form! This feeling of "this is me, this is who I am" stuck around after my interest in the movie faded.
How I discovered I was a goddess:
My MaDD (maladaptive daydreaming disorder) is a huge part of this. For many years now, my daydream world hasn't changed much. While the narrative changes frequently (on a daily basis), some characters and locations have become permanent, they're always part of my daydreams, they're always a part of me.
My husband King Solaris of the Angels (whom I miss very much), my doctor Corvus, the silver knights, the stone wyverns, the Lunar Sea, the forests, the mountains... these are all permanent.
In this world, also exists my idealized self. The goddess of Latria. The silver dragon. The goddess of souls and magic.
This idealized version of myself is permanent, and hasn't changed for many years. Which leads me to believe I am her in some way. I know, it sounds bizarre, or wrong, but that's how I feel. I am her. I... can't change that.
(Back when I was a kid, I could change my daydream self whenever I wanted, but that doesn't seem possible anymore)
My Forever Husbando:
King Solaris of the Angels, god of physical strength
All Husbandos:

Pokémon in: Omori
Chapter 4
Everyone quickly chimed down the ladder.
"Don't worry Kel, I'm sure he's around here some." Hero said. Kel was frantically searching for the fallen Pokéball, but to no avail. Aubrey smacked Kel.
"How could you lose your Pokémon?!" She yelled.
"Hey. Hey. Calm down. Kel, don't worry, maybe we'll find him while looking for Basil?" Hero suggested. Kel nodded and everyone started climbing again. The ladder was long. There was an Ekans with a space helmet. Omori reflected. During the search for Hector, the feeling of Deja Vu, was gone. It's back now, but still. The climb was long. Very long. Eventually, they ended up in an underground area, before finally ending up above ground. Kel planted a flag.
"That's one small step for Kel, one giant leap for Kelkind!" He said, throwing out Spinda's Pokéball, releasing the Pokémon. Aubrey then noticed what the flag was as she finished climbing.
"Is that my Butt Certificate?!" She yelled. Omori and the three Pokémon reached the top now as well. Aubrey sends out Bun Bun, who tries to take the certificate, but Spinda stops it.
"Kel! Take it down!" Aubrey yelled.
"But look at it! So majestic…so beautiful…" Kel says, a single tear falling down his face. Spinda salutes. Hero finally reaches the top of the ladder, panting and exhausted.
"Hero! Make him take it down!" Aubrey yelled. Hero, who collapsed into the ground, puts a hand up.
"Hold…hold on a minute…I need to…catch my breath…" Hero said. Dolliv left its Pokéball.
"Alright. I guess it can stay…" Aubrey said. She felt a little bad for Kel because of the Hector thing. Omori helps Hero to his feet. They look around and see purple trees all around, and only two paths to go down. They go down one of the paths and reach a Campsite. There were some cars, a path, and Mari!
Everyone ran over to Mari, who was eating with her Pokémon. In the area was a floating mirror, a mailbox, a water trowel, a wanted poster, and some hay bales. Mari's Pokémon were also there. Mewo was on her lap. Vaporeon was relaxing in the water trowel, completely at peace. Flittle was in the nearby treed gathering berries. Pawmi and Illumise were playing in the hay. Krikitot was bothering the guy in the mailbox.
"Oh, hey guys! Isn't this place cool? Tourists from all over the galaxy come here for rest and relaxation. I also hear that the leader of the Space Pirates lives here!" Mari said. Everyone went to the picnic blanket and sent out their Pokémon. The Pokémon immediately began to take in their surroundings. Mari did notice one Pokémon was missing.
"Hey Kel, where's Hector?" Mari asked. Kel's face fell.
"I dropped his Pokéball and now I can't find it!" Kel cried. He ran up and hugged Mari, causing Mewo to run out of the way.
"There there, Kel. I'm sure you'll find Hector!" Mari said, comforting him. Kel cried for a few more seconds before letting go of Mari. He wiped away his tears.
"You're right. I need to stay strong. For Hector!" Kel said, dramatically. Hero chuckled a bit. The group ate some space-tube food. Then, they went up the stairs nearby. There was a draconic house, another set of stairs, a present shaped house, a path somewhere, some cars, and a mysterious stranger trying to hide behind a tree.
They disturbed him.
The Mysterious guy sent out Roggenrola, Kantonian Graveler, Carbink, and Amoura. The guy flexed and felt his best!
Hero sent out Dolliv.
Kel sent out Spinda.
Aubrey sent out Bun Bun
Omori sent out Ralts.
Roggenrola used Stone Edge, hitting Ralts. Spinda used Tackle on Carbink. It doesn't do much. Aubrey cheers on Omori. Omori feels happy? The right arm punches Kel. The left arm annoys Aubrey. Aubrey became Angry. Ralts used Pychic. It lifts Amaura into the air and launches it at the round guy. Amaura gives a death glare. Ralts is a little nervous. Kel's Ball flies everywhere, hitting the guy and his arms. Hero smiles. Amaura used Avalanche! Dolliv fainted.
"Oh no! Dolliv!" Hero yelled, returning it to its Pokéball. He sent out Sinistea. Bun Bun was badly hurt. Spinda was hurt bad, but Ralts managed to dodge! Bun Bun used Water Gun, spraying all opponents. It's Super Effective! Spinda gets lifted by Ralts before using Dizzy Punch on Graveler. Graveler used Rollout. Ralts dodged, but the others weren't so lucky. Meanwhile, the trainers were also fighting. Omori slashed wildly! The opponent stopped.
"Impressive. Let's see how you handle this!" He said, and he expanded. Then, he pushed Kel, turning the boy into toast! Everyone looked shocked. Hero grabbed the little toast, and held it protectively. Before also being attacked and turned Toast.
"Hero! Kel!" Aubrey yelled. The Pokémon saw this. Even more determined, they dodged Roggenrola's Earthquake thanks to Ralts. These Pokémon may be stronger, but they had numbers and friendship! Ralts levitated Graveler, slamming it fullforce into Roggenrola! Roggenrola fainted. Graveler used Rollout, fainting Bun Bun! Aubrey sent out Nidoran ♀️. Nidoran ♀️ charged at Amaura and used Headbutt! Carbink used Rock Tomb. Ralts fainted. Mawile entered the battle. Everyone was losing. Omori was holding the two pieces of toast, trying to protect them. The Pokémon knew they needed to win! Mawile used Bite! Amaura fainted. Carbink used Rock Tomb, before it was countered by poison Sting. Spinda used Dizzy Punch! Carbink became confused, fainting itself in confusion. Sinistea used Shadow Ball, defeating Graveler. Meanwhile, Aubrey and Omori were dodging Attack after attack. The enemy was about to hit Omori, when Aubrey shoved him out of the way! She turned to toast. Omori cradled the toast. Omori became Angry! Omori stabbed the enemy! Mawile bit the enemy! Nidoran ♀️ fired out Poison Stings. Sinistea launched a Shadow Ball! At the same time their opponents used his ultimate attack! Mawile fainted. Sinistea fainted. Spinda fainted Nidoran ♀️ fainted. Omori
Omori did not succumb! The enemy was finally beaten!
He flew off. Omori grabbed the toast and ran to Mari.
"Oh no! Your friends became toast!" She said.
"Don't worry, I can fix it!" She said, Omori saw white and his friends were better, as were the Pokémon. Omori hugged his friends tightly.
"Omori, are you alright?" Hero asked. Omori just kept hugging.
"Man…that was a tough fight, but it looks like you won!" Aubrey said. Omori finally let go. He looked to his Pokémon. Mawile and Ralts were kinda confused, but it's a dream world soooo.
Ralts sensed a lot from Omori. Fear, relief, happiness. All so muted. It was almost as if the cliff-faced boy wasn't used to emotions. He was originally a coping mechanism, right? That's what they saw when he was created. But, he has sentience, and has had it for a long time. Why were these feelings seemingly so new to him? Ralts shrugged it off. The group headed up to the Anchor shaped house.
Author's note
Fight scenes are so hard to write. This chapter probably sucks. And I know I promised Spaceboy's team, but this chapter was getting long. So next chapter. Please! Please please please please send in asks. You can ask me stuff, ask the characters stuff, whatever. And please reblog with some constructive criticism and feedback. Until next time

Eevee is the poster child of how wild and varied a Pokémon can develop depending on it’s enviorment. Though Eevee being a common domesticated as both pets and competive most people are only aware of the more immediate methods of evolution such as with stones, however their evolutions can happen naturally over time.
Naturally, Eevee is an opportunist, able to learn and change based on how they can best survive in their enviorment. For example, I’m from Snowpoint, and it has happened time to time that Eevees that had run off or got lost be found again as Glaceons. Now of course, this is not to say a good alternative to revolve your Eevee is to throw them into the woods for a few weeks and get a Leafeon, but being both hunters and scavengers and can learn very quickly to thrive in their new enviorment. Vaporeon, Leafeon, and Glaceon in particular are fantastic ambushes and as such may be very conferrable in big pools, pile of autumn leaves, and a snow bank respectively.
Now the more concrete elemental revolutions, Vaporeon, Jolteon, Falreon, Glaceon, and Leafeon are much more common to see in the wild. Say in coastal areas both Vaporeon or Jolteon can be found with plenty of bodies of water and more rainy weather with mild storms. Flareon tends to be a bit rearer naturally considering their enviorment not only needs be very hot to engage their need to grow warmer with, but also plentiful resources to thrive with, so deserts are not as optimal as many people think it may be for them. In fact cases of wild Flareon tend to be reported very commonly in main land Hohen surrounding Mt.Chimney with it’s already hot enviorment added on to the volcanic area.
Now Espeon, Umbereon, and Slyveon are Pokemon that are much rearer found in the wild. It is noticed that Espeon and Umberon in particular seem to develop by a strong bond with other. Espeon has been noted that they develop a strong sense of empathy, sympathy, and genreal emotional intlegence which may be what be the source of their psychic powers. In the case of Umberon they seem to have a similar strengths, however they are the result of being more nocturnal and adapted to be a night time predictor and camolage in the darkness. For trainers these two eveolutions are very popular, epically for support pokemon with being able to read their partner’s emotions easily and having the bond to know how to attempt to comfort or aid them. As for in the wild, these two happen to occur when an Eevee pairs up with another Pokémon and develops a strong bond. As such they tend to have more symbiotic relationships, of which vairy between what the relationship is found on. A very common sight between Espoeons and Umbreons is that if you see them in pairs, they are very likely romantic partners and are said to have higher likelyhood of being lifelong partners.
Lastly Sylveon is the most interesting to see in the wild. Out of the evolutions here, Sylveon is one that more people have attempted to groom and raise rather than find. This fairy Pokémon, unlike Espeon and Umberon, does not eveolve nesserely from a bond, but from affection. Although many times a Sylveon has a good relationship to trainers of partners, it is shown they tend to eveolve more when they feel very pampered and comfortable. As such in domestic cases, Sylveon tend to be very common in richer owners and although emotionally aware like Espeon and Umberon, may use it to get attention and how to get it. Many people say they make good support Pokemon, and although true, do not be surprised that after doing their job a Sylveon may be bratty later to get a treat. In the case of the wild however, for a Sylveon to develop they would need to see a Pokemon, or even person, that will give their resources to an Eevee and spoil them a bit. Often cases a Pokemon may want to impress an Eevee to attempt to mate or a relationship and may gift resources to them or grooming to form a symbiotic relationship. There are also cases of people feeding wild Eevees regularly develop into Sylveons.
Anyway, thank you for listening to my Eevee Ted Talk

Stumbling: Chapter 8
Pairing: Raihan X Reader X Leon
Your life hadn’t gone exactly as you planned…
This is why when an old rival walks into the coffee shop you work at he gives you an offer you just can’t refuse. Finally, a chance at the League. Suddenly you are thrust into the spotlight and a world you thought you had left behind. Dreams aren’t always what they are cracked up to be though, especially when you find yourself the tangled up with the champion and a certain gym leader.
Has all your dreams come true?
Or is this your worst nightmare?
Masterlist!
Tumblr media
Team:
Serenity her Hatenna, Queenie her Vespiquen, Davine her Jango-o, Hades her Deino, Arum her Bounsweet, Axel her Toxel, Zuko her Charmander
Dreaming while you are Awake
You aren’t expecting the bear hugs you get from the guys when you walk in the door.
“You did amazing!”
“That was a great battle!”
“Queenie evolved! I guess she won’t be able to sit on my hat now!”
“Did you feel the rush? I knew you would!”
“Guys! Calm down,” you laugh as you swat them away.
“We’re just proud of you is all!” says Leon as he pulls you back into a hug.
You smile as you hug him back, “Thanks Lee…”
“Stop hogging her!” Raihan says as he pulls you from Leon’s grasp.
“Guys! Seriously! Stop!” you yell with a laugh.
“We’re just excited! You can’t blame us!”
“Well… I’m going to take a nap… that was stressful and I need to sleep.”
“You’re no fun!” pouts Raihan as he lets you go.
Leon chuckles, “You deserve a nap, go ahead and rest, we’ve got to head out for Hulbury tomorrow! I’m got an errand to run right now, but I should be back by nightfall.”
Leon leaves not too long after that and you head into your room to take a nap. Raihan follows you in there.
“Raihan? What are you doing?”
“You know a nap sounds good…”
“Then go take one…”
“Oh I intend to!” he says as he lays down next to you.
“Why aren’t you in your room?”
He gazes over at you and you feel yourself blush, “You don’t want to nap with me?”
“I just-”
“Come on! It’s just sleeping!”
You roll your eyes, “You better not snore…”
“I do not snore!”
You just laugh in reply and snuggle under the soft duvet. You’re excited to sleep in a bed after living out of a tent and sleeping bag for a few weeks. It doesn’t take long for you to drift off to sleep.
You fall into step with Leon and Sonia as you all head to the academy. Today is your final if you pass you will be able to get your trainers’ license and apply for sponsorships for the League. You can hardly wait.
“I can’t wait to get my license! I’m going to be the champion!” exclaims Leon as he jumps up into the air, “No one can beat me and Charmander!”
“Get in line Leon,” you say with a smirk, “We all know I’m the next Champion of Galar.”
“Whatever! You’ll have to beat me first if you think you’re going to be Champion!”
“Well don’t forget about me!” exclaims Sonia as she pushes in between the two of you, “I’m want to be Champion too you know!”
The three of you continue to bicker good-naturedly as you head to the academy.
“Alright, class! Today is your final exam. You will be graded on your battling style and skills. You will be randomly paired up, I have all your names in the bowl and I will call out the pairs one by one. First pair! Sonia and Max. Second pair! Rei and Melody. Third pair! Leon and (Name)!...”
You glance over at Leon at the same time he glances over at you. You make eye contact and smirk as you both regard the other. You noticed a few of the other teens in class are looking at the two of you. You are notorious rivals with an equal number of wins apiece.
When it’s your turn and you are called up to the pitch and stand opposite Leon.
“No items,” he starts.
“No subbing pokemon,” you second.
“No Mercy!” you both yell as you throw out your pokemon. The two of you reciting the rules you’ve battled by for years.
Leon sends out his Wooloo and you send out your Rookidee.
“Leer then Peck it Titan!” you yell at the tiny bird pokemon.
“Defense curl then tackle!”
The two battle it out, but in the end, Leon’s Wooloo wins. You huff as you send out Pearl your Squirtle and partner. She makes quick work of the severely weakened Wooloo and you smirk as Leon sends out Charmander.
“Now the real fight begins!” yells Leon, “Charmander smokescreen!”
“Don’t let him get the jump on you! Water gun! Let’s end this before it begins!”
You smirk as Charmander is hit with a watergun and knocked back, you frown when he just gets back up.
“Great job buddy! Tackle her!” Leon yells.
“Withdraw!”
Charmander runs headfirst into the shell of your turtle pokemon. Pearl takes almost no damage and pops out unharmed.
“Dragon Breath Charmander!”
“Rapid Spin, then watergun again!” you yell.
Pearl spins at the time that the Dragon Breath hit and it glances off of her shell. When she stops she aims her water gun at Charmander and the battle is over. You smile in victory as Leon just covers his face with his snapback. You know he’s frustrated but you don’t care.
“Excellent job both of you! You each received passing marks! Now shake hands!”
You approach Leon and hold out your hand, he lifts his head up and smiles at you, “Great match! It looks like I’m going to have to train harder to beat you.”
“Looks like it!” you giggle as you glance down at your joined hands.
You blink as you gaze around the unfamiliar room. It takes a moment to pull yourself from your dream. The battle from today reminding you of your last battle with Leon. You were both so young and so full of promise. You can hardly believe it’s been so many years. Do you even recognize yourself in the mirror anymore? Your mind lingers on Pearl your Squirtle. You haven’t seen her in a while, too wracked with guilt at your failure to get sponsored, too ashamed to admit you needed help and too destroyed to be able to take proper care of her. You missed your partner and you hope she’s doing well. You made a promise to her and you intend to keep it, you just need to prove it to yourself first.
You glance over at Raihan and see him still sleeping. You gently get out of bed and put your shoes on. The afternoon is warm as you head to the grassy area where Eevee is meant to be. You spend the rest of the afternoon training your pokemon and looking for an Eevee, but you never see one. With a huff you settle yourself on a rock and lean back, the sky is painted with blues, purples, and pinks as the sun sets behind the horizon. You close your eyes as you recall an evening like this a year ago.
The day had been long and hard. You really just needed to get away from everyone and everything in your life for just a moment. You don’t know how long you’ve been laying in the tall grass but the resident pokemon seem to be leaving you alone. Hatenna would not want to be near you right now when nobody else would either. You end up lost in thought as tears slip from your eyes. You can feel the cool trails as the wind blows across your face. Eventually, you drift off to sleep and dreamlessly slumber until well past dark. When you wake up you feel a slight pressure on your stomach. Laying on your stomach, sleeping soundly, is a small Hatenna. Your slight movement wakes up the slumbering pokemon and she blinks up at you sleepily.
“There you are!” you’re snapped from your thoughts by a voice behind you. Turning around you see Leon walk up and sit next to you.
“What are you doing out here?” he asks as he settles himself next to you.
“Thinking… well I was looking for an Eevee but I haven’t been able to find one…” you pout.
“Well, we’re going to have to find you one because otherwise, this is going to go to waste.
You blink as you gaze down at the cool blue stone, “You got a Waterstone for me?”
“I did! I wanted you to know how proud I am of you for beating your first gym. I know I wasn’t there for you when you needed me to be, but I’m here now and I want you to know that.”
His gaze is intense and you can’t help but get captured by his amber orbs.
“Leon…” you whisper.
Suddenly you’re fifteen again and all the Butterfree you felt every time you looked at him are back. You know this is wrong… ‘He’s with Sonia, isn’t he?’ your mind screams at you. You break eye contact and gaze down at the stone.
“Thank you, this means a lot to me… I just keep racking up debt with you don’t I?”
“Of course not! You don’t owe me anything other than a battle for the championship. I still have to pay you back for that loss…”
You smirk, “We were fifteen Champion Leon… I think if we’re to battle now you would win…”
“That’s why we aren’t battling now, it has to be on equal footing. You’re still technically ahead by one.”
You chuckle as you sit the stone down next to you, “I can’t believe you remember that…”
“Remember that time you creamed me? Of course, I do! I had to get stronger to beat you didn’t I? Couldn’t have my cru-err... rival think I’m weak, right?”
“I’ve never thought you were weak Leon…”
“Really?” he asks as he subtly scoots closer to you, his arm casually leaning behind you as he moves closer to you.
“Really, I just always knew I was a better strategist.”
“You are, aren’t you?” he asks softly. You’re caught off guard by his soft tone and the sweet look in his eye.
“(Name)...I… There’s something-”
Leon is cut off by a bright light behind you. Your eyes widen as you gaze down at the Vaporeon standing before you.
“It-”
Before you can even think the Vaporeon is off like a shot into the night.
“After it!” you yell as you leap off of the rock and rush after it.
“Wait!” Leon yells as he rushes after to the two of you.
“You can’t just use my stone to evolve then run awaaaaayyyyy” you exclaim as you chase after the water type. Sending out Queenie you yell for the queen bee pokemon to chase after the bubble jet pokemon. Eventually, you corner it against the fence and it has no choice but to battle you. It doesn’t take long for you to weak it, probably due to the fact that its form is still new and strange. You give a whoop after the little light on your Pokeball shines green showing you’ve captured your new friend. What you don’t expect is the Vaporeon to burst from his Pokeball and run off.
“What the?! Wait!”
“Where is it going?!” Leon exclaims as he rushes after you as well.
The Vaporeon stops and gazes back at you intensely as if he is willing you to follow him. You just nod in understanding and rush after him. Taking you through the grass until you get to a little den you’re surprised when he rushes up an Eevee as she stands protectively in front of an egg. She sniffs Vaporeon before she nuzzles him.
“Oh… there’s an egg…” you say as you gaze down at the tiny family before you, unsure of what to do. Leon is behind you in an instant and lets out a gasp of awe.
“Well would you look at that…” he says as he gazes down at them as well.
“I don’t know what to do! Do I release him? He could die though… Vaporeon’s aren’t meant to be in this climate! What if something happens!” you panic.
You’re kind of amazed when the duo begins to speak to one another and the Eevee walks up to you with a look of determination.
“Ee-Vee!” she exclaims.
“I think that means she wants to come too…” Leon says in amusement looking down at the evolution pokemon.
You smile, “Well there are worse things than having an Eevee pair…” you mumble as you pull another Pokeball out and offer it to her. She happily taps it with her little nose and settles into her new home. Popping out she sits beside her egg and glares up at you.
“Well, of course, we’re taking your baby… We’re not leaving it here…” you explain as you bend down and take the egg from the den. The two thrill obviously excited they are to be together with their baby.
“Well come on… Let’s go eat dinner…” you laugh as the pair follows happily along behind you.
“Are you going to evolve her into anything?”
“We’ll talk about it tomorrow… it’s been a long day…”
When you get back to the room Raihan has already ordered food up but stops midbite as he gazes at the family of Eevee that you have.
“Only you would come back with an entire family of Eevee…” he says with a smile and sigh.
“It’s not my fault!” you defend as you sit down at the table. There is a large burger waiting for you.
“How did you know?!” you ask happily.
“I pay attention,” he says with a wink.
“What are you naming your Vaporeon?” asks Leon casually.
“Wait! How do you even have a Vaporeon?!” Raihan exclaims.
“Leon went out and found a stone for me! Isn’t he sweet?!” you ask happily as you feed your new friends some berries.
“Oh… the sweetest…” Raihan says with an annoyed look at his friend and rival.
“Thanks, mate! You know… you aren’t the only one paying attention…” Leon says with a smile, but his eyes are hard as he gazes back at Raihan.
You don’t notice the interaction as you fawn over your new friends.
“I think I’m going to name him Nile! After the river!” you give a final nod.
“You haven’t even named your Charmander yet, how have you figured out what to name him? And what about the other Eevee?”
“I have named Charmander… his name is Zuko.”
“You named him after a cartoon character?”
“It means glory!”
“What about Eevee?”
“I...was not expecting two Eevees… I’ll figure something out later.”
“Are you evolving her?”
“I guess?”
“Ee-Vee!”
“That’s a yes from her,” Raihan laughs.
She nods happily before she jumps up into your lap.
“What do you want to evolve into?” Leon asks as he leans over and pets her soft fur.
She tilts her head in confusion and you pull out your Pokedex and pull up her choices.
She tilts her head the other way she gazes down at her options.
“You could be a Flareon, that’s a fire type, a Jolteon, that’s an electric type. Or Espeon is psychic, Umbreon is a dark type. There’s also Leafeon that’s a grass type or Glaceon, that’s Ice! Sylveon is a fairy type! What do you think?”
She looks up at you in confusion, “Ee-veee…”
“It’s okay you don’t have to decide now…”
She nods as she continues to gaze at her options as if she is thinking deeply about her choice.
“Let’s sleep on it… we have a long day tomorrow…”
She nods and jumps from your lap as you finish up your dinner and head into your room to relax.
A knock on the door alerts you to your visitor and you glance up to see Raihan there.
“Hey Princess, what are you up to?”
You smile up at him as he approaches your bed.
“Just resting, it’s nice to be in a bed!”
“I’ll say… but I will miss you tonight…”
“Why?” you ask with a laugh.
“Because I’m so used to you being near me,” he says as he sits next to you and wraps his arms around you.
“Raihan I’m literally in the next room… are you going to miss Leon this much too?” you giggle.
“Leon isn’t as pretty as you!” he pouts as he pulls you closer.
“You won the nap, but this bed is mine tonight! You aren’t winning!”
He looks playfully affronted, “What do you mean? Don’t you miss me too?” he asks slyly.
 “I don’t miss your snoring…”
“I do not snore!”
“You could put Snorlax to shame,” you giggle at him.
“Why you!” he tackles you onto the bed and you squirm as he tickles you.
“Raihan!” you yell between laughter.
“Nobody messes with the Dragon King!” he yells playfully as he continues tickling you.
“Raihan!”
“Feel my wrath!”
“I can’t breathe!”
He stops and allows you to catch your breath. Laying on the bed, Raihan wraps himself around you like you are his favorite pillow.
“But if you let me stay… we could cuddle all night… or…” He flips you over so you’re on your back and he’s hovering over you, but his whispering is interrupted by Leon bursting through the door.
“What is going on in here?!”
“Nothing!” you exclaim, your face is flushed and you’re panting, Raihan is too and Leon does not look convinced especially with the position you are both in.
“Sorry to interrupt…” Leon says forlornly as he turns to shut the door.
“Damnit Leon…” Raihan says as he pulls away and gazes at your shocked face.
“Ill handle him, you just head to bed okay?” Raihan says as he gets up and heads for the door.
You look up at the ceiling and Raihan’s words echo in your head.
‘No… he was just messing around, he wasn’t being serious… why would the strongest gym leader want me?’ You push the thoughts from your head and the Butterfree from your stomach and roll over to sleep. It doesn’t come as easily as you would like, but eventually, exhaustion from the day’s events wins out and you fall into a restless sleep.

A Rocket Coincidence (Part 1)
Part 2
Kali was awoken by a soft nuzzle on her cheek by her Umbreon, Rowan, letting her know it was time to get up. She rolled over in her sleeping bag and pulled the top over her head with a groan.
“Just a little longer.” Kali pleaded through the cover as Rowan began pawing at her through the sleeping bag, she had trained it too well. Throwing off the cover Kali glowered at her Umbreon who took a seat next to the extinguished campfire and began cleaning its paw, its job complete. “You’re lucky you’re cute.” Kali stretched, taking in the day. It was a warm and hazy dawn which meant it was going to be another sunny summer day. She was grateful for the pleasant weather as all of her nights for the past week had been spent camping outdoors.
Rummaging in her pack Kali pulled out a few raspberries for Rowan to eat while she packed up the campsite, Kali herself would eat later as she was anxious to hit the road. This was going to be her last day of travel and while there was definitely something about traveling Kali loved she was also looking forward to sleeping in a real bed that night.
Her end destination was Silver Town in the Johto Region, which was located at the base of Mount Silver, but today she was going to take a small detour through the ruins of the ancient city of Pokemopolis. The ruins had always seemed interesting to her and while she had passed this way before she had never taken the time to go and explore them. From what she knew the site had been excavated and any artifacts that had been found were safely preserved in museums but there were still some structures you could get to.
“Alright, girl. Time to go.” Her Umbreon sat patiently as Kali gave her a pat on the head before returning it to its pokeball for the day. Hauling her pack over her shoulder Kali set out towards the main road. She had purposefully camped close to the site so the walk there this morning shouldn’t be too long of one. Kali took a breakfast bar out of her pack, listening to the sounds of the forest come alive around her as the sun began rising. It would have been peaceful except for the unmistakably harsh chatter of a flock of nearby Starlys.
The road took her gradually uphill and the forest eventually gave way on her right to just the stone of the hillside. Kali trailed her fingers along the top of what looked to be the remnants of an old stone wall that ran along the road, wondering about the people who built it. Further along on her left she spotted a small sign that said ‘Pokemopolis’, the arrow on it indicating a small path that led down the hillside. The path was rather steep but after a few minutes of walking Kali came to a larger clearing with what appeared to be the foundations of several old buildings. This must be it. A flock of Pidgeys flew off as she approached making it obvious, if the quiet of the forest hadn’t, she was the only one around.
Kali strolled over to the closest ruin, feeling a bit like a tourist as she read over the plaque in front of it. Each site had notes on what the archaeologists thought each area had been used for along with pictures of what artifacts they had found at each spot. She snapped some photos, making a note of what museums the artifacts were housed in to maybe visit one day.
After a good amount of wandering around she had seen what there was to see and found herself back where she started. Pulling out her Pokegear she checked the map just to make sure she was still headed in the right direction and a ping on the screen piqued her interest. Clicking on it zoomed the screen into a Pokestop that was labeled as 'Ancient Shrine'. Sweet. Kali had hoped that there would be one out here she could earn some points at and if she hurried it didn’t look like it would take her that much farther out of the way.
The path that led there took her further down the hillside and even though it was warm out she was glad for her boots as the road became more rocky. She pulled her red hair up into a messy bun to get it off the back of her neck as the mid-morning sun beat down on the rocky hillside making it feel even hotter. Eventually the path took a turn and led along a wide river. Kali could immediately feel a difference in temperature as a cool breeze swept across the water. She rechecked her Pokegear and it showed the Pokestop as just up around the next bend.
The spot itself was obvious when she reached it as the path she was on opened up into a much wider area. The rock of the hillside had been clearly carved into to reveal the ‘Ancient Shrine’. It was a large statue shaped like a bell that sat on a stone altar above a staircase that looked like it led down under the hill but, unfortunately, it was gated off and locked. A plaque in front of the gate had the large Pokestop QR code on it along with a brief explanation of what the shrine was. Kali took out her Pokegear and scanned the code, her Pokegear making a cheerful ding as it registered the new location for her and added 500 coins to her account. She whistled in appreciation, that would certainly get her quite a bit of supplies. A bit of movement near the base of the statue caught her eye and she glanced down to see a small Krabby shuffling along on the stone, clearly wary of Kalysta.
“Aren't you cute.” Kali snapped a picture with her Pokegear as the Krabby began sidestepping towards the water's edge. She moved aside to let it pass and then checked her map again. If she continued down this path it looked like it circled back up the hillside and connected with the main road to Silver Town. Perfect. She considered letting Lyra, her Vaporeon, out for a quick swim but decided against it as she still needed to reach Silver Town before dark. She was about to head forward when she heard the crunch of footsteps from up ahead and a rather large man strolled around the corner. His black outfit emblazoned with a large red “R” on it was an instant giveaway as a Team Rocket member, subtly wasn’t in their vocabulary. He seemed almost as surprised to see her as she was to see him but quickly shook it off.
“This is a bit far out of the way to be traveling.” He stopped and crossed his arms over his chest, clearly sizing her up. “If you're thinking of passing by you're going to have to battle me first.”
Kali groaned internally, the last thing she needed right now was another delay. She had figured this was far enough out of the way, with obviously no one around, to make it worth any other Trainers or Team Rocket members setting up for battles. Maybe she should have just stuck to the main road but it was too late now.
“Not interested.” She tried to sound indifferent while taking a few steps forward but he moved into the middle of the path to block it.
“It ain't a request.” He frowned in annoyance.
Kali weighed her options. She could go through with a battle but it was getting much too hot and she still needed to reach the city for the competition tomorrow, preferably with her pokemon at full health. Or she could head back the way she had come from but that would be a hell of a lot of backtracking and might make her late for curfew at the dormitories in Silver Town. Maybe there was another option.
“Look, I'm just trying to get to Silver Town before nightfall.” She tried reasoning. “I don’t have time for a battle.”
“Well I'll just make my win quick then.” He countered, smiling arrogantly.
“So, you're really not going to let me pass?” Kali toyed with the single pokeball clipped to her belt as she strolled closer, stopping a couple feet away from him.
“If you’re headed to Silver Town you’re probably competing in the conference.” He ignored her question. “You can’t tell me you’re afraid of one little match out here.” He was goading her and as much as she hated to admit it, it was working. She felt a flare of anger rise in her chest and took a deep breath.
“I’m not, I just don’t want to waste my time proving I can wipe the floor with you.” She shot back.
“You? Defeat me?” He gave her a dismissive once over before laughing. “Not gonna happen.”
“Like you said, I must be heading to Silver Town for the conference. So I’m clearly strong enough to compete. Which is probably more than you can say.” Two could play this game and it appeared she hit a nerve.
“You Team Trainers think you're all so tough but you're nothing but cowards, and-”
“I am NOT a Team Trainer.” She cut him off, a new spark of anger flaring in her chest.
“You think I didn't notice the Valor pin on your pack?”
As soon as he mentioned the pin her face went dark. “Don't fucking assume things you know nothing about!” Kali didn’t wait for a reaction and instead pushed past him, storming off around the bend as she tried to suppress her anger. She hadn't realized how fast she was walking until she reached the main road. She glanced behind her but the Team Rocket guy was nowhere in sight. Good. She kicked a small rock ahead of her as she continued on, her mood now sour.

Pokemon trainer AU. With Onew being the Champion, does he travel around, checking in on gyms to make sure they are following leauge rules and that gym leaders are fighting fairly? Maybe thats why Taemin and Kibum found him in Minhos gym? Is he an all around trainer with diffrent types of pokemon? Or does he stick to water types? How did he get his vaporion? What other pokemon does he have on his team? How long has he been champion? :3
“You know, me and Minho are a lot like Kibum and you,” Jinki tells Taemin one day while they travel to the summer league championship.
“Really?” Taemin asks. “Does he send his Pokémon to knock you out too?”
Jinki laughs and shakes his head, “No. I meant when he was younger, I would bring him on my travels with me and train him. We’ve known each other our whole lives. And now look at him! He’s a gym leader!”
“Can I travel with you too?” Taemin asks, bouncing next to him.
“Well we already sort of are, aren’t we?” Jinki asks. “Besides, I think Kibum likes training you.”
“But he’s got all fairy types mostly, and you’ve got water types like me!” Taemin insists. “Not that fairy types aren’t cool too, I just like water and psychic types more.”
“I can help you with the water and psychic specifics,” Jinki assures him. “But I think Kibum can be a good teacher too.”
“He is a pretty good teacher,” Taemin agrees. “When he’s not using Jigglypuff on me.”
“He means well,” Jinki snorts, throwing an arm around Taemin’s shoulders.
“How did you get your Vaporeon?” Taemin asks, immediately changing the subject.
“Minho and I both had Eevee’s,” he laughs. “But he’s always been more drawn to fire type Pokémon. We searched four summers in a row together to find a fire stone and a water stone. Plus it took a lot of training in general to get them to evolve.”
“So cool,” Taemin whispers, watching as Flareon walks right next to Minho up ahead, him and Kibum bickering again. Then he snaps his head towards Jinki and smirks. “You know, I do have a Magikarp.”
“And you figuring out how to get him to evolve is your own journey as a trainer,” Jinki snorts. “I’ve never really bothered with them, myself. My little Vaporeon is all I need.”
“He’s not so bad,” Taemin mumbles. “He reminds me of Psyduck. It’s just that no one gives him a chance.”
“That’s why I think you’ll be a great trainer one day,” Jinki assures him. “You love your Pokémon and you believe in them. That’s very important. It’s not always about stats and competition wins.”
“I guess,” Taemin sighs.
As they continue traveling, Taemin meets more and more of Jinki’s Pokémon. He has tons of them, Taemin is sure he’s got one of each type, and it’s fascinating. Taemin bounces around every time he meets a new one, excited to see what sort of moves they can do.
“I prefer the water types though,” Jinki winks at him one day. “They’re my specialty.”
“So cool,” Taemin gasps as he watches Jinki train his water type Pokémon, his Vaporeon particularly impressive to watch.

(Y/N) and Hitoshi were sprawled out on the sofa one at each end leg entwined under the blanket covering them while they played pokemon Sword and Shield on their Nintendo switches.
"Ha! I found another Eevee!" (Y/N) shouted out,
"What no! Fuck!" Hitoshi shouted the pair of them were battling it out to see who can get all the Eevee evolutions first. Hitoshi was struggling to find the Eevvee he needed to complete his group. Hitoshi has had pokemon Sword about a month and finally convinced his girlfriend to buy a switch light and to get shield a few days ago so rainy days like today they can curl up on the sofa together with snacks.
Hitoshi had already got Sylveon, Vaporeon,  Flareon and Espeon before they started this Eeveelution battle. (Y/N) had already managed to catch five Eevee so only three more Eevee.
"Goddamn it, fucking Electrike stop chasing me!" (Y/N)'s character was running around the screen, avoiding the little electric pokemon that would not stop chasing her through the long grass.
"I'm going to Grass gym battle I am already OP and using a fire pokemon in a grass gym will be far too easy to defeat this gym." She ran her character down the road bumping into the NCP called Hop, who is arrogant, cocky pain in the neck that talks too much and think he is so great. "Ergh this twat again."
"Hop?' Hitoshi asked, (Y/N), hummed in respond spamming A to try and skip through the conversation where he most likely saying this is where his legend begins.
"Hitoshi? Didn't your biggest rival always pick the pokemon that didn't have a weakness to yours, like Hop choose Grookey when I choose Scorbunny, why would you choose the grass pokemon when your best friend and rival chooses a fire pokemon?!" She ranted away "And where did all the fucking camp stuff your mum gave you go! Like the bag is so small, and key items pocket? What is my bag? A TARDIS*?"
Hitoshi looked at his girlfriend with a gentle, loving smile, her eye sparkling as she played the game, she was so cute the way her nose scrunched up when she concentrated while doing the gym battle.  "Do you want a drink baby girl?"
"Please sugar" (Y/N) smiled at him before turning back to her game. Throwing the blanket off him, he stood up heading out of the room, he grabbed them both a drink, he returned to see she had a grin on her face "I defeat the Gym! That was so easy!"
"Well done baby girl" He kissed her forehead, handing her the drink before sitting back down and picking up his switch again.
"Oh my god! Finally, my Eevee is evolving! Please be Umbreon. Don't you dare disappoint me, you will be disowned if you do! Yes! Umbreon! Now I need Glaceon and Leafeon, and I have all 8 Eeveelution!"
"No, come on! ergh I'm going to lose! You had a head start too!" (Y/N) pouted
"Yes! I found another Eevee!" Hitoshi started doing a little happy dance while laughing, clearly not paying attention to his girlfriend pouting. "One more! There's one!" The pouty look quickly changed to one annoyance.
"Yes, I caught it! Now time to evolve you! I have the stones to do it as well. There is Glaceon aaaaaaand one Leafeon!" Hitoshi dragged out as he watched his Eevee evolve, doing a little happy dance.
"You wanker!" his head flew up just in time, too see a pillow flying in his direction, hitting him squarely in the face, it quickly turned into a pillow fight.
They hadn't heard the front door open, and the calls of Hizashi and Shouta to there adopted son and his girlfriend with little Eri behind them as they headed toward the sitting room to find them in a full-on pillow fight. They just smiled and walked away, leaving the couple to their game.

Whumptober 2020 Day 13: Delayed Drowning
Okay here’s the other half of the story I did for Day 5. Except not half because this turned out waaaay longer than I expected, something like 8k words.
Fandom: Pokemon
Content Warnings: Animal whumpee, Female Whumpee, Minor Whumpee (juvenile animal), Minor Caretaker who gets hurt too, Animal Abuse, Animal Death Mention, Bad Parenting Mention, Hallucinations, Fear Wetting
“I mean, I just don’t understand… what the hell kind of sick bastard just… throws a bunch of baby Pokemon in the river?” Nico ranted to the nurse on duty at the West Rutile Town Municipal Pokemon Center. “Like… I’ve heard of people abandoning Pokemon because they evolved and they couldn’t take care of them, or something, but like… how hard can it be to find homes for Eevees? I mean, they’re like… there’s four or five of them in my apartment building back home!” During the ride in the back of the police car, which had raced them to the Pokemon Center with the lights flashing, he’d been almost as catatonic as the three Eevee kits in his lap, just answering the cops’ questions about what had happened as accurately as he could.
The lecture about him risking his life going out onto the flimsy tree trunk to pull the bag out of the river hadn’t been as long as he expected, and there was no mention of calling his parents, but he still felt like a damn criminal, especially with all the questions like how long he’d had his Trainer’s License, where he’d been last, and so on. It actually sounded like the guys were genuinely interested – one of them said he’d gotten a couple of gym badges when he was young but competitive battling just didn’t work out – but it was still like an interrogation.
With the car’s heater blasting, the Eevees had started to perk up a little. Two of them, at least. They were shivering violently the whole ride there, and stayed snuggled into the sweater, but they were awake. The other one? The nurse had just delivered the bad news, and right now Nico felt like he had to keep talking, and to stay angry, or he was going to break down and cry. The whole car ride he’d been telling himself over and over not to get attached, that they might not make it, and there was a good chance they were kidnapped and would be reunited with their trainers. But the little creatures had pressed themselves against him, and they were making little mewling cries of distress, and he’d just done what he could to try to comfort them. One of them was a bit more curious, and started looking around the cop car after a bit. The other had managed to crawl up inside his t-shirt. She was still damp and freezing to the touch.
The nurse sighed and nodded. She was an older woman, with brown hair that was gray at the roots. “They’re common, yeah. But that cuts both ways. There are so many born in captivity every year that there aren’t always enough homes for them.” She grimaced. “These kits are six or seven months old, probably from the same litter. Probably an unlicensed breeder: the scanners didn’t pick up any Pokeball ID.” Captive Pokemon in Tektos were required by law to have a registered Pokeball by the age of four months. “I don’t think there was much effort put into finding homes for them, either. They’re almost a pound underweight, and based on all the partially-healed injuries it’s possible they were used as Grinders.”
Nico winced. Pokemon battling, real Pokemon battling, was a carefully regulated sport, and it was mostly safe. There were occasionally accidents, but Pokemon in league-sanctioned battles had a rate of serious injury several times lower than professional footballers. But there were illegal underground battles, and even in the League occasionally someone would get caught doing something cruel or unethical. Like Grinding. The best way for a Pokemon to get better, aside from practicing individual moves and techniques with their trainers, was battling against other skilled opponents who could challenge them. But Grinding meant beating much weaker Pokemon over, and over, and over… just using them as target practice. It wasn’t good even for the Pokemon being trained, and for the ‘Grinder’ it was cruel and dangerous. But…
“Why’d they stop, then?” he asked. “I mean… wouldn’t people who were doing that just… keep them until they died or got too badly hurt to run or defend themselves at all? Why’d they try to drown the whole litter at the same time?”
“If I had to guess, because they got found out and were trying to get rid of evidence,” the nurse scowled. “Since the old commissioner got voted out a lot of these underground fighting rings have been getting busted.”
“Oh.” Nico balled his fists. “Yeah. Good. I mean, not that they were destroying evidence, but… y’know, hopefully that means the sons of bitches who did this’ll get caught soon.”
“Anyway...” the woman scratched the back of her head. “The good news is, both of the little girls you brought in today seem to be in stable condition. We’re going to keep them here for observation for at least another night. After that, they don’t have any Pokeball IDs as I said, so they don’t legally have a trainer at this point. You and your friend are licensed trainers, so you have the first claim to any abandoned Pokemon you capture, even if you didn’t use a Pokeball.”
“Okay. Uhh… I mean I, uhh… I’ll have to think about it!” Nico stuttered. He hastily excused himself and claimed he needed to call a couple of people. Erin had already left by then. He was going to talk to her at some point, just to make sure, but she’d said the other day that after Slana she wasn’t going to be ready for another Pokemon for a while. She had four, which was technically enough to earn seven of the eight gym badges needed to qualify for Regionals even if it would be much harder to do so. Nico only had Kenna and Zagi, so to even challenge a gym for his second badge he’d have to add another Pokemon to his team.
But that was the thing. Even if he took in the Eevees, he’d still have a team of two. They were so young it would be a couple of months before it was even physically safe for them to battle, and mentally? Maybe never. If he remembered right one of the semifinalists in last year’s regional championship had a rescued grinder Pokemon on his team, but the interviewers had focused on that precisely because it was rare. There was no guarantee they’d even be okay with being anywhere near a battling arena, not if  the sights and sounds were a constant reminder of whatever abuse they’d gone through. And it wouldn’t be fair to them to be shut in their balls every time he had a practice match with another trainer, or during sparring sessions while he was spending time with the others. If what they needed was a quiet home, one that was always in the same place and never involved crashing in cheap rooms or on couches at Pokemon Centers, he couldn’t provide that. At a minimum he could be taking care of an extra two Pokemon. A trainer could have more than six and just select which six would be ‘available’ before a battle, and quite a few did, but it was more work, more mouths to feed, more sleeping space… then again, some trainers had Onix or Gyrados.
And, well… really, Nico wasn’t sure about an Eevee at all. They were cute, but the old saying was: ‘Never bring home a Pokemon if you aren’t prepared to care for its fully evolved form’ or something like that. And usually it was pretty straightforward, but Eevee could take any of fifteen different forms, all of different types, all with different needs. Vaporeons needed water to swim in, Jolteons needed lots of space to run, Leafeons were miserable in places with long, cold, dark winters, Glaceons were miserable in tropical climates, Umbreons liked to be active at two AM, Terreons needed places to dig, and so on. It wasn’t completely unpredictable, because they were more likely to take a form suited to their environment, and you could often see the signs in their personality and behavior, but you couldn’t know for sure unless you used an evolutionary stone or made sure to only train in certain locations or at certain times of day or something.
But he’d be lying if he said he didn’t want to keep them. It was like some part of him had bonded with the little creatures during that car ride. Like he’d felt a connection. But that was stupid. The poor things were so out of it that he hadn’t really even met them. He’d felt something with Kenna from the first few minutes, but she’d been awake, and aware of her surroundings, and he’d gotten to know her a bit and made sure she liked him before deciding on her as his starter. Then again, new parents always talked about how much they loved their babies even when they couldn’t do much besides sleep and cry. But then again, maybe if people could tell who their kids were before they had them, the world might be a better place. Maybe there’d be fewer kids getting dragged across the ocean to Hoenn every summer so their moms could pretend they actually liked spending time with them for a week or two and the other ten telling them to just go outside and make some friends if they were bored. Maybe there’d be fewer kids getting expensive presents in the mail every holiday season that were lovingly picked out for the kid they wished they had. Nico stared at the contacts list on his phone. No… he felt like he could only tell her the good parts of being a trainer, the easy parts. What would she even say? He was going to call Dad at some point, but he was at work right now, and all he ever really said about it besides ‘You’re the trainer, it’s your call’ was no Pokemon that wouldn’t fit in the apartment.
Eventually Nico made up his mind to make up his mind later. He was planning to stick around Rutile Town for a while anyway, so he’d wait until he could actually get to know the Eevees and they’d fully recovered. He tried to take his mind off it. Go to the nearest gym – Rutile didn’t have one of the major gyms where a badge was needed to qualify for Regionals, but there were two smaller ones – and work on hiding an Ember’s direction with Smokescreen for Kenna and Zagi’s control over Quick Attack. Get dinner, and of course now the sun had gone down so the Jivuyena was stir-crazy but the temperature had also dropped a few degrees so she didn’t want to actually get her energy out outdoors. But at some point, late in the evening, he found himself scrolling through lists of name ideas on the internet, and that was the last thing he remembered doing before he fell asleep sprawled across a couch in the Pokemon Center lobby, sweating like a pig in his hoodie with a living hot water bottle curled up on his chest.
He was shocked awake by a crash like furniture being knocked over. He pushed himself upright, dislodging Kenna and sending her tumbling off the sofa with a startled grunt, then fell off himself, landing hard on his elbow. His curse probably woke up anyone who’d managed to sleep through the first noise.
“Ow! Son of a… what the hell?” He stood up way too fast and was almost brought back down by a headrush.
Other voices around him expressed similar sentiments. There were only a couple of other trainers in the lobby at this time of night – the clock by the Clinic check-in desk said 2:30 in the morning. Erin had long since gone to bed in the actual room she’d rented. The lodging side of the Pokemon center didn’t get that many visitors staying for more than a night or two since there wasn’t a major gym in Rutile and the area wasn’t that popular for catching wild Pokemon. No one was camped out in the lobby for lack of space. The only reason to stay here overnight was if you had a Pokemon that was in bad shape.
There were more crashes, and high-pitched screams. Only some of them sounded human. The other trainers reached for the Pokeballs on their belts. Nico did the same, then remembered both his Pokemon were already out. Kenna cackled and stalked towards the doors to the clinic area, wisps of smoke rising from her back. Zagi stayed perched on the back of the sofa, fur standing on end and sparking.
Then the doors flew open. A young man stumbled out, half dragging an older, heavyset woman. Both of them wore nurses’ scrubs, but their clothes were torn. His glasses were bent and missing a lens, and his arm was covered in blood. He helped the woman to a chair, and shouted in a shaking voice: “Everybody stay calm! Stay calm and get clear of the lobby, now!”
The effect was anything but calming. A dozen possibilities raced through Nico’s mind. An earthquake? A gas explosion? Pokemon thieves? - Rutile did have a gang problem. An out-of-control Pokemon? A truck crashing into the building? “What happened? What’s going on?”
“Keep your Pokemon in their balls!” the female nurse snapped at a trainer who had just brought out a Scyther.
The man zeroed in on Nico. “Are you the kid that brought the Eevees in today?”
“Uhh – yeah – I – yeah, that was me,” Nico stuttered. “What’s wrong? Did something-”
“One of them had what’s called a secondary drowning episode – water in the lungs caused inflammation and more fluid accumulation.”
“Oh, no.”
“We were doing everything we could, but-”
Something flung the doors open again, so hard it seemed like they would come off their hinges. They hit the wall with an earsplitting bang, and a creature skidded into the lobby. Nico caught a glimpse of blazing orange eyes wreathed in a halo of unearthly pale blue flame. It was like the air was sucked out of the room. Goosebumps formed on his skin.
“Jesus!” one of the other trainers staggered back, and reached for a Pokeball. The creature’s head snapped towards the sound.
“I said keep them in their balls!” The nurse’s voice was almost as frightening as the creature… the Pokemon. The shock had gone away a little bit with its eyes off him, and he could see it more clearly now. It was small, not much bigger than a Vulpix or an adult Eevee, with four legs and a slender body. It was almost engulfed in the ethereal fire, making it look bigger than it was, but the energy was concentrated around its neck, paws, ears, and tail. Underneath the fire was dark gray-purple fur. The large head, the short muzzle, the long, diamond-shaped ears...
Nico’s jaw dropped. He recognized this Pokemon. At least, he recognized the evolutionary line for sure, and he could guess the type. “Is… is that a Styxeon?” Eevee could evolve into any type except Bug and Dragon, but the ghost and poison forms were the rarest. He couldn’t remember how they even evolved. Were they the ones that evolved through trading? No, he was pretty sure there was some kind of item involved usually because very few locations had a big enough energy concentration…
The man nodded. “Traumatic Evolution. I’ve never seen it happen before! She suddenly went downhill and we were trying to get her on oxygen, but… basically her body thought it was about to die and… forced itself to evolve as a last resort! But her Aftermath tore half the room apart, and she panicked and attacked us!”
Nico couldn’t speak. It clicked together in his brain. Ghost-type… this was one of the Eevees he’d pulled from the river. And panicked was right. Panicked and furious. The Styxeon darted one way, then the other, claws skidding on the linoleum. She was hissing and spitting and screaming at everyone and everything around her. The other two trainers hurriedly backed away, and the guy with the Scyther recalled it. Zagi kept his distance, but Kenna slowly advanced on her, snarling.
“Kenna, stay back!” Nico ordered. “Kenna, stay back! Damnit… Kenna, return! Zagi, return!”
He got them back in their Pokeballs just in time. The ghost-type just hissed and recoiled at first, but stood her ground until Nico tried to call his own Pokemon back. She flinched and shrank away with a frightened yelp, but then lunged without warning, swiping at the red beam of energy with a ragged dark purple plume trailing from her claws. Her gaze followed it straight back to Nico’s hand, and the glowing eyes met his. He hurriedly looked away, but the feeling of unease, of fear, was visceral.
“Uh… don’t you guys have Pokemon with moves that can… cause sleep or something?” Nico asked the nurses.
“Yes, but right now using any move on her’s dangerous.” The female nurse had hauled herself to her feet and was using a chair as a makeshift walker to back away. “She’s having a massive power surge, but she’s also very weak from the strain of evolving too early. We can’t put any more stress on her.”
“Do you have a Heal Ball on you?” the man asked. He had a Pokeball in his hand, but judging by the sticker on it it already had an occupant.
“No. Sorry.”
“Then let’s just try and get her calmed down on her own and make sure she doesn’t get out of this building.” The man edged towards the Styxeon, but an enraged snarl sent him scurrying back, nearly tripping over a chair. He glanced down at his bloody sleeve.
That left Nico as the only thing standing between the Styxeon and the exit. His fingers brushed the empty Pokeball he had on his belt. No. He didn’t know if he could, even as a last resort. He could never forgive himself if something happened. The way she’d reacted… she’d been scared of Kenna, but not the way she’d been scared of him raising his voice.
“Hey… remember me?” He tried to keep his voice as level as possible. Calm, not aggressive but not fearful either. “I saved you, remember?” Avoid eye contact, avoid staring, but don’t obviously look away. She responded with a low, rumbling growl. “I’m not gonna hurt you, girl.”
The Pokemon moved closer, but off to the side, sinking into a low crouch. That was trouble. He followed her eyes. Uh oh. The door to the lodging area! He shuffled sideways to block her way.“Ah-ah, no, you’ve got to stay -” Then the last word became a startled yell. The Styxeon tensed. Her eyes widened, but she sprang with an unearthly screech. Nico threw his arms up to try to protect his face, but something slammed into his chest, bowling him over. His sneaker caught the edge of the carpet, but he barely even felt his head hit the floor. Her voice was boring into his ears, boring into his brain like a dentist’s drill. Claws dug into his chest, but the thing that had tackled him wasn’t the Eevee he’d saved from the river. Her skin went translucent, and then… then it was gone, rotting and crumbling away in an instant with heatless blue fire bursting from the seams. Flesh sloughed away from bone. Images flashed in front of – no, behind Nico’s eyes like a kaleidoscope on a bad acid trip, and horrible, stomach churning sensations forced themselves on him. Cold, overwhelming cold, icy water and thrashing bodies kicking and clawing at him and burning lungs, pitch blackness and spinning vertigo, and then the stabbing agony of the cold being inside him. Cold metal bars against raw flesh, the smell of dried blood and ammonia and dirty dishes left in the sink too long, with the constant buzz of flies around him, insects landing on him, insects biting, things crawling on him, things moving under his skin. His arms and hands gray, and clammy, and the skin splitting and a writhing mass of foaming maggots erupting from the wound instead of blood. And pinning him to the ground was a decaying, mummified carcass, scraps of ragged fur and blackened skin clinging to a skeleton, orange pinpricks of fire blazing in the black void of empty sockets, a bare skull screaming with its fangs just inches from his face.
Then the fluorescent lights of the Pokemon Center Lobby were spinning somewhere above him, and he was lying flat on his back on the thin carpet. His head felt like it had split open. The Styxeon leapt off his chest, but stumbled, looking wildly this way and that. People were shouting, and there was a Jumpluff hovering near the ceiling. It was a few seconds before Nico could make out voices or even move. He rolled onto his stomach and lifted himself to his hands and knees. His heart… it was so fast… he felt faint, and a bead of sweat dripped from his nose. His ears were still ringing.
“Fuck, bro, you okay?” someone asked. “You went down pretty hard!”
“I’m - okay! Yeah! I’m - okay!” He wasn’t okay. He’d hit his head so hard his neck and jaw hurt, and he felt like he was going to puke. He was hyperventilating so badly he could barely get out one word per breath. But the living nightmare had vanished, and in its place a terrified Pokemon was running frantically back and forth, looking for an escape route that didn’t exist. She was panting, the blue fire was sputtering, and there was so much fear in those eyes!
“Styxeon! Calm down, you’ve gotta – calm down or you’ll hurt yourself!” Nico got to his feet on pure adrenaline, but stumbled and had to steady himself against a chair. The Pokemon’s feet slid out from under her. She landed hard, and took a couple of tries to get back up, paws scrabbling on the linoleum. He staggered towards her, trying to herd her away from the door, ignoring the shouts from him to get away. He wanted to yell at them to shut the fuck up. They were hurting his head, and she was flinching at every one. Stop scaring her, you morons!
She tried to dart past Nico again, but lost her nerve at the last second and ended up cornering herself between him, the wall, and the back of a sofa. She was still screaming her head off with every breath, but the ghostly flames around her gave out. There was no hostility anymore, just desperate terror.
“It’s all right… it’s all right...” Nico sank to his knees. “I’m not going to come any closer, okay? Just calm down… calm down… shh...”
The Styxeon shrank back, her ears flat against her head and her tail tucked between her legs. Her whole body was shaking like a leaf, and her back was hunched over. She bumped into the wall, and jolted forward with a startled yelp, looking back like she hadn’t known it was there.
“You’re safe, girl… nobody’s going to hurt you – ah, damnit...”
The terrified Pokemon’s gaze darted back and forth. Nico, the wall, the couch, the other people and Jumpluff a ways behind him. Her wail faded into a pitiful whimper. Her enormous orange eyes filled with tears, and a puddle appeared between her back legs.
“Sweetie, sweetie, stop! Or – ah, jeeze – at least get your tail out of the way – fuck...” Nico pressed his hand to his chest. His heart still wouldn’t slow down. Oh, now he was panicking? What the hell was he supposed to do? This wasn’t something he’d had to deal with as a trainer. Most Pokemon were way faster to house train than human babies. Unless they were left in their ball too long or weren’t given a chance to go beforehand, it was very rare for healthy Pokemon more than a couple of months old to have accidents. The Eevees should have been old enough. But if those… hallucinations were real, if they were bits of memory, maybe they’d spent most of their lives locked in cages. Had they never learned?
No… no, it was worse. The poor Styxeon looked utterly horrified. There was no way she’d meant to, she’d just been so scared… and the little creature was still cowering, looking at him and flinching away like she expected to be hit. She looked down at her paws with an expression of disgust, but shrank back against the wall, trying to make herself as small as possible, her crouch getting deeper and deeper until she sat down on the soaked tile, sobbing violently.
It was heartbreaking. All Nico could do was keep saying whatever he could think of to try to reassure her. By now the noise had caused a small crowd of trainers from upstairs to gather. She wouldn’t let anyone else anywhere near her, and wouldn’t leave the corner even when Nico backed off, but she at least tolerated his presence. He scooted closer an inch at a time, until his outstretched hand was a couple of steps out of her reach. Close enough that she still had to come to him. She reached forward timidly, jerking back at the slightest movement, but eventually she came close enough to sniff his hand.
She shied away again, but after a minute repeated the gesture two more times, as if to prove to herself that she wasn’t imagining it. She let out a soft whine, and started to tremble and cry again. But then… she closed her eyes and pressed her forehead against his palm. He was almost surprised by how soft and warm her fur was. Part of him had expected to feel nothing but bone.
Nico sighed, and rubbed his aching head. That was the last straw. “Welp.” He muttered to himself. “Guess I have a Pokemon now.” Two really. There was no way he was going to separate the two siblings, especially after everything they’d been through. “Good girl, Sedna.” The moment he said the name, he started second-guessing himself. It was one of the ones he’d been considering in spite of everything about it. According to the website he’d found, Sedna was a sea goddess from a region in the far north. The reason was different in different versions of the story, but in all of them she was thrown into the ocean by her father and drowned, but lived on as a sea goddess or something. It kind of fit, but at the same time it didn’t because it was so morbid to give one of the Eevees a name like that. He kind of liked the way it sounded, but he was still leaning against it because it would be kind of weird for anything but a Glaceon or Vaporeon anyway, and… Wait. Sedna was the ruler of the underworld too, wasn’t she? The cold, lightless depths at the bottom of the ocean? No, that was almost too good a name for a Ghost-type.
Sedna calmed down a little after the crowd was shooed away. Most of the trainers had gone back to bed, and the other two who were staying in the lobby retreated to the other side. It was just Nico, Erin, and the two nurses. They’d admitted defeat on trying to get close enough to Sedna to check that her evolution had actually cleared all the fluid from her lungs, but said it should have. They were waiting for a nurse from another Pokemon Center to relieve them, and a friend to give them a ride to the hospital. Sedna had bitten and clawed the man’s arm, badly enough that he’d need stitches. The woman had fallen and twisted her ankle trying to run after getting hit with an Astonish – the same move the Styxeon had used on him. It was probably a sprain, she said, but a bad enough one to need medical attention, and an X-ray just to be sure. Nico was almost glad he’d been tackled. They kept suggesting that he should go to the hospital as well, warning him about a possible concussion. They’d taken his pulse and blood pressure too, and said they were way higher than a teenager’s should have been, and that if they weren’t back to normal by morning, he needed to see a doctor.
But he was putting that off until morning. Or probably afternoon since after this ordeal there was no way he was waking up early. Sedna needed him. She’d let Erin get closer than anyone else but Nico, but he was the only one she’d let touch her, and even then it was only reluctantly. Nico would have loved if he could just get her to follow him to his room and make her a nest of blankets or towels so she’d have somewhere warm and comfortable to sleep but still have some space, and then he could get some sleep. But the poor thing was cowering in a puddle of her own urine. There was no way in hell he was going to bed and leaving her in that state.
He was going to have to give her a bath. He’d only actually had to bathe a Pokemon once, a few days ago after another trainer’s Swampert had knocked out his whole team in a practice battle. Neither of his Pokemon normally needed or tolerated baths, but Kenna was too tired to get the mud out of her fur with fire. She’d put up with getting wet, but Nico had nearly scalded himself getting the water hot enough for her and she’d been grumpy the rest of the day. Sedna wasn’t a fire-type or electric-type, but she’d been tied up and thrown in a freezing river. Nico doubted she was going to enjoy it. He wished he could just use a couple washcloths, but her hind legs and tail had gotten too wet for that to be enough.
Even getting her anywhere near a shower turned out to be a challenge. This sure as hell wasn’t a good time to try to introduce her to Pokeballs, so his plan was to wrap her in a towel and carry her up to his room in it. It took twenty minutes of sitting there freezing in a pair of swim trunks to even coax her onto the towel. It was crazy how much difference clothing made, although he had also had a fire-type on his lap earlier. Sedna was still shivering periodically – he wasn’t sure if it was from cold or fear.
“You cold, girl?” He slowly gathered up the corners of the towel, trying not to make any sudden movement. “This is going to be nice and warm, okay? I’m just going to pick you up, and – whoa, whoa, Sedna, it’s okay!”
But as soon as he tried to wrap the towel over her back, she freaked out again, trying to jump away with a noise that was half growl, half yelp. Her foot got caught on it, pulling her off balance, and as she tried to run she slipped on the wet floor and fell. Back to square one. The poor creature was even worse off than before, and she refused to set a single paw on the towel again. Had it reminded her of the bag she’d been stuffed into, Nico wondered?
He wasn’t sure if she’d let him pick her up at all, at least not long enough to carry her upstairs. If he could wipe her paws off and lead her into the bathroom, maybe he could at least lift her into the tub. But her following him was a big if. Maybe if he kind of wrapped the towel around his arms and chest, it would feel less like being shoved in a burlap sack? It was worth a try, at least.
“All right, Sedna. I have to pick you up. Just hold still, girl. That’s it...” He kept his voice low and moved as slowly and smoothly as he could. “Come’ere… come’ere...” He waited until he was almost touching her, then moved fast, like he was trying to catch a spider under an overturned cup without it darting away and getting crushed under the edge. He scooped Sedna up with one arm supporting her hindquarters and one under her chest, and stood up holding her tightly. Her eyes immediately widened and she tensed, squirming in his grip. She growled softly.
“It’s okay! It’s okay, girl! I’m not gonna hurt you!” Nico tried to reassure her. He could feel her heartbeat pounding against his chest like a jackhammer. And she was so light. Styxeon was the smallest of the Eeveelutions by a wide margin, around fifteen kilos from what he’d looked up. But Sedna couldn’t have been more than ten, probably more like eight. “I’m trying to help you, please don’t maul me… Good girl...” She was relaxing a little bit, and the growling had stopped. “Okay, I’m going to bring you upstairs...” Then he felt something cold against his arm. Had the towel just soaked through? “Ew, ew, ew, fuck! Erin! Hey, Erin, help me with the door please, my arms are kinda full!”
He marched the Pokemon upstairs as fast as he could without jostling her. He nearly had a heart attack when he remembered he’d left his key in his room when he changed, but luckily Past Nico had apparently also left the door cracked. He shoved the bathmat aside with his heel and tried to set her down gently, but as soon as she loosened his grip she wriggled and jumped out of his arms. She landed hard, her front legs sliding out from under her and her chin hitting the tile with a loud ‘Thwok’ sound. Nico winced. Pokemon weren’t easy to injure, but that had to hurt. “You okay, girl?”
Sedna looked around the room with quivering eyes. She stood rooted to the spot with her tail tucked under, then looked up at him with heart-wrenching uncertainty.
Nico sighed. “Sedna, there’s nothing scary about this.” He slid the door shut behind them and turned the lock. “It’s just a shower. Can you get in the bathtub? Come on girl, get in!” He pulled the sliding shower door aside and patted the rim of the tub. No luck. When he tried to lift her in she twisted away with a warning hiss. “Okay, fine. How about I get in the shower?” He stepped into the tub, turned the shower on, and immediately let out a string of curses until he got the showerhead pointed at the wall.
“Fucking freezing! I’m an idiot!” Sedna, and half the bathroom floor, had gotten misted by the spray. She shook her head violently and sneezed. Not a good start. Nico waited until the water was actually hot, then made a big show of rinsing himself off, including sticking his head under the shower. “See? The water isn’t dangerous! I’m not melting!” He picked up the bottle of shampoo. It had a picture of a smiling Pikachu covered in suds on the front. ‘For fine-textured fur,’ the label read. ‘Contains 15 relaxing herbs.’ Perfect. Pokemon Centers generally assumed trainers were capable of buying their own personal hygiene products, and apart form hand soap everything stocked in the rooms was Pokemon-safe products of various kinds. Most of them were human-safe too though, and it was a long-running joke that you could identify a traveling trainer by smell because everyone was too cheap, too lazy, or too weight-conscious to buy separate soap for themselves. Nico certainly didn’t bother. But screw it, he didn’t need to wash his hair tonight anyway.
It took a long time to get Sedna used to the idea. Nico was glad the Pokemon Center had a good water heater. She pawed at the door at first, but when she’d given up on escaping she started to watch him with exhausted curiosity. She peered over the edge of the bathtub, but flinched and backed away whenever a drop of water hit her. Eventually, though, Nico was able to get her to sniff his hand, then let him touch her with wet hands, and finally… the moment of truth.
“C’mere, sweetie. I promise this isn’t going to hurt you.” Nico leaned out of the tub, got both hands around Sedna’s chest, made sure she wasn’t struggling against that, and lifted her in. She immediately went stiff as a board and splayed her legs and claws out, letting out a high whine. She made a halfhearted attempt to climb back out when he set her down, but didn’t shred his arm when he gently held her shoulders down while he slid the door closed. When she saw there was no escape route, she looked pitifully up at him with her ears flat against her head, and shrank against the far wall of the tub. Her back paws slid uselessly on the steep wall. Her tail was between her legs again, and she started to shiver as if in anticipation of what was going to happen.
“I’m so sorry, girl. I have to do this. I’m not trying to torture you!” Nico said. Sedna seemed to have accepted her fate, but it seemed like she hadn’t so much realized it wasn’t bad so much as she was catatonic from fear and exhaustion. Part of him just wanted to get it over with – it wasn’t going to be unpleasant for her one way or another, so why make the process take longer? That was what he’d done with Kenna – helped out by making the water so hot he could hardly stand to touch it – but her discomfort had been mostly physical. Sedna was scared. He had to be as gentle and patient with her as he could so she wouldn’t associate this with being hurt.
He sighed, and sat down with the trembling Styxeon, and went through the process of letting her sniff his hand, then working up to petting her and getting her fur damp, then turning the showerhead on the wall so the mist came down on her, before finally adjusting it to its gentlest setting and spraying her directly. But something had changed. She was still trying to make herself as small as possible as if that would make the water miss her, but she wasn’t pressing herself against the wall anymore. It was more like she was trying to use him as a makeshift shelter. At first she hovered a few centimeters away, but soon she was pressing herself against his legs, making soft, plaintive noises.
If she was trying to make him feel so guilty he stopped, she was damn close. Nico wanted to cry. This poor, sweet Pokemon… He knelt next to her, stroking her sodden head and shoulders with one hand. He pulled the showerhead almost to the floor, aiming it upward to make sure he got the areas that were why she needed a bath in the first place. By now Sedna was as thoroughly soaked as when he’d pulled her out of the river. Once again he was surprised by how skinny she was under the soft, fluffy coat of fur that was now completely plastered to her body. It was worse now than when she was an Eevee, because her new form was naturally more slender, and evolving without getting a chance to build up energy must have burned off whatever body fat she had. She wasn’t emaciated, but ribs and some of the bumps of her spine were showing.
Actually washing her was the hardest part. He dabbed about three times as much shampoo on the washcloth as he probably needed, but the relaxing formula had no discernible effect. Sedna wasn’t biting or clawing, but she was so tense it was like trying to wash a statue, if statues shivered and flinched when he touched a bruise a spot that hurt and sometimes struggled. Struggle wasn’t totally the right word, because she was too strong for him to stop her, but the foam had turned the whole tub into a slip ‘n slide, and when she tried to pull away or climb to freedom she kept falling. He was trying to be gentle, but when he washed her paws he found bruises and scabs where the zipties had bound her wrists and ankles. There were smaller wounds too, that must have been from being kicked and bitten and clawed by her siblings as they tried to free themselves. At least, he was hoping that they weren’t from before that.
He saved the worst for last: her back legs and tail. He’d gotten everything else besides her head – even if the shampoo wasn’t harmful to get in her eyes or mouth it would probably still sting – and he was hoping she’d get at least a little used to being washed. Now though, he was wishing he’d just gotten it over with, because it seemed like Sedna had tolerated it as long as she could, and now she was at her limit.
“Come on, sweetie, I have to get all of you clean!” Nico pleaded. The Styxeon was pressed against the drain-side wall now, giving him a look of utter betrayal, like he really had tried to drown her again. But she didn’t move an inch of her own free will, and he ended up practically having to wrestle her tail from between her legs with a soapy washcloth while trying to restrain the soaked, slippery Pokemon one-handed. It was almost as uncomfortable for him as it was for her. He found out the hard way that yes, the shampoo really did sting like hell to get into his eyes or in an open wound. Not to mention it tasted awful. And he was genuinely afraid that what little trust Sedna had in him had been shattered.
But as he was checking that the scratches weren’t too deep while he gave Sedna a few minutes to recover before he rinsed her off, something changed. Sedna timidly crept up to him, her head lowered and her long ears folded down so the tips almost brushed the floor of the tub. Without thinking about it, he reached out and stroked her head. She jerked away at first, but more startled then scared this time. She approached him again, and the next thing he knew she was on his lap, dripping suds and pressing her soaking wet body against his chest. She was shaking again, and her breathing was fast and sharp like she was crying too quietly to be heard over the running water.
She stayed there the entire time as he turned the showerhead on her again, making sure he got every last bit of shampoo out of her fur. She leaped out of the tub as soon as he opened the door – and slipped and fell on the tile again – but this time she didn’t stop him from wrapping her in a towel. Her fur was too thick to get completely dry without a hair dryer, which he didn’t have and would probably have scared her anyway. He dried her off as thoroughly as she could, but even after he’d dried himself off, changed, and gotten Kenna and Zagi to settle down, she was still damp when he carried her to bed. Kenna was suspicious of Sedna, but luckily she hadn’t seen the worst of the freakout. She sniffed her a few times, then groaned and curled up near the end of the bed. Zagi was already out cold on the clothes Nico had tossed on the floor.
Sedna’s blinking was sluggish, and she kept staring blankly into space with her eyelids slowly descending. Nico was on the verge of passing out, too. Was he supposed to go to sleep with a concussion? For how long? It had been at least an hour. Was that enough? If he was concussed it probably wasn’t that bad anyway. He’d been able to stand up straight, have a conversation… he was kind of slurring his speech now, but that was probably caused by a serious medical condition called Four in the Damn Morning. Fuck it. Bed. He pulled the blankets back and laid the last remaining dry towel out on the mattress. Without the heat of the shower on her she kept shivering, and he figured an extra layer would help keep her warm. Plus, if damp sheets were like damp pillowcases, they’d be cold and uncomfortable to sleep on.
He patted the mattress. Sedna was sitting on the floor looking confused and uncomfortable. She looked up, but didn’t seem to understand what the gesture meant. He tried again, calling: “Sedna! Come on up, girl! Come on, can you jump up here?” If she actually wanted to sleep on the floor, that was fine, but it didn’t seem like she was scared of coming within ten feet of him anymore. She sniffed at the mattress uncertainly.
Nico sighed. He slid out of bed, and picked the Styxeon up without resistance. “Come on, sweetie. Up you go.” She slumped onto the mattress listlessly, staring at him with an expression he couldn’t quite identify. “What’s wrong?” he asked. He reached a hand out slowly over her head, but she flinched, closing her eyes and backing away until one paw slid of the edge of the bed. “Sorry! I’m sorry, girl! It’s okay for you to be up here!”
Sedna timidly padded back to the towel, inching one paw at a time forward. With a faint sigh she started to knead at it with her forepaws. “Good girl,” Nico said. He rolled over to turn out the light, but when he rolled back over he was met with a pair of mournful orange eyes staring into his. He froze, barely daring to breathe. He closed his eyes, but the memory of the ghoulish, half-skeletal figure on top of his chest returned.
“Ugh… I think you’re gonna give me nightmares, girl...” he muttered. “What do you need?”
The glowing eyes closed, leaving the room lit only by the faint city lights through the curtains. Nico felt the weight on the mattress next to him get closer. With a soft groan that faded to a whine, Sedna snuggled up against his chest, resting her head under his chin. “Oh, sweetie...” he whispered. He could feel the chill of her damp fur through his pajamas, but her body was warm. And breathing – little tense, shallow breaths, but she was breathing. She smelled like lavender, almost overpowering the scent of wet fur. She was alive. The monster that had nearly given him a heart attack wasn’t real – or in a way it was, but it was made of Sedna’s own fear, of her memories, mixed with her kind’s natural power. He’d just gotten a glimpse of what had to be inside the poor little creature’s head.
She was still shivering, her breathing still occasionally lapsing into soft crying. Nico pulled the covers up and folded the towel over her. She’d dragged it over to the middle of the bed before lying down next to him. He couldn’t help smiling. That was just adorable! He just hoped it wasn’t because she thought she’d be in trouble for lying directly on the sheets. He couldn’t wrap his head around how anyone could possibly have not just abandoned this creature, but tried to murder her, and her siblings. Only… they’d succeeded. Only two of the Eevees had made it. A sobering thought occurred to him. Did Sedna know? Did she know three of them had died? Did she know any of them had lived? There were a lot of different legends about Ghost-Types. In folklore some species guided lost souls to the underworld.
But myths didn’t mean much here. Sedna was confused, alone, and Nico was sure one way or another she missed her brothers and sisters. This was a Pokemon who was scared of people, and for all he knew had never been treated with kindness in her life, but was clinging to the only source of comfort that was even the tiniest bit familiar. Tomorrow he’d have to bring her in for a checkup, and hopefully she’d be able to visit her sister even if she wasn’t in good enough shape to leave the Pokemon Center ward yet. And then… it probably wasn’t going to be easy taking care of her, and he was still afraid he wasn’t prepared for what he was getting himself into, but he hoped this bond born of desperation would grow into something real. It already had for him.
He wrapped his arm around Sedna and held her, gently but securely. “It’s gonna be okay, Sedna,” he whispered. “Good, good girl.” He started to stroke the soft, downy fur on her head, and her breathing slowly became more even. The last thing he remembered before he fell asleep was her hugging his forearm against her chest, and pressing herself against his.

A/N:
So, uhh... kinda went way out of my comfort zone on this one. Good News: I haven’t made a character throw up onscreen for cheap Suffering Points this Whumptober (I ain’t counting Day 4 since that was in the past), which is kind of surprising. Bad News: I made a character wet herself. Which is... ugh. Anything toilet-related is a huge phobia/squick for me IRL, I wasn’t sure if I could even make myself write this one. It took for fucking ever, partly because of how long it is, but partly because of procrastinating to avoid writing the uncomfortable scene and cringing. But I had to do it For The Concept.
Basically I’ve seen a few “Caretaker helping Whumpee bathe” type prompts on here and wanted to do one of those, especially with an animal whumpee, and took inspiration from real-life experience occasionally having to bathe my family’s small dogs, who do not enjoy baths and get cold super easily. It’s pathetic and makes you feel like a horrible person for having to do this to them, which also makes it perfect for whump fics, and doing it to Sedna less than 24 hours after she was thrown in a river and nearly drowned is even better!
But that meant I needed a reason why any decent human being would be forced to give her a bath, because obviously that would be horribly traumatic, and getting into something toxic or otherwise dangerous didn’t fit into the plot. And also while doing my like half an hour of medical research I found that secondary drowning is sometimes treated using diuretic medication.

Fantasy Biology: Eevee
Tumblr media
Eevee is the far superior Pokemon to Pikachu but it is something of a biological enigma and unique in that it has eight different mature, adult forms (currently, hanging out for a steel-type Eevee in sword/shield) all of which are possible for any single, individual Eevee.
Eevee is superficially mammalian, though like all Pokemon hatches from eggs, so it's not the anatomy that I'm going to consider today (mammals that lay eggs are not that weird in Australia). It's not even the fact that such superficially different adult phenotypes can interbreed successfully, as the different eeveelutions don't look any more different to each other than a pug would to a borzoi.
No, it's the fact that we start out with identical Eevees at birth that all move on to become such phenotypically different adults in response to their environment.
How do they do that?
There are, at the time of writing, eight known Eevee evolutions that evolve via the following:
Vaporeon, Jolteon and Flareon by contact with a small, very special rock
Glaceon and Leafeon by proximity to a large, very special rock
Espeon, Umbreon and Sylveon by by being friendly/affectionate enough with one other qualifier, either time of day or ability known.
Which is super weird, but let's try to explain these anyway.
It's perfectly normal for animals to adapt to suit their environment. Muscles get bigger the more they are used, skin toughens, skills are learned, and over many generations evolution takes place. But with Eevees, these adaptations happen rapidly within a single lifetime.
It's also not unheard of for animals to undergo a dramatic physical change as they mature. Compare the caterpillar to the butterfly. Or perhaps more interestingly, consider the axolotl.
Axolotls are a type of salamander that live their entire life cycle in an aquatic phase, rather than a terrestrial one. They're commonly seen as pets. However, if you throw a bunch of thyroxine (a naturally occurring thyroid hormone) at them, they will metamorphose into the terrestrial salamander form. They transform in response to a hormone from an external source.
Tumblr media
Now, real world animals take days, weeks, months or years to transform. In the world of Pokemon you may choose to ignore that, or consider these transformations to be happening over a couple of days instead. But the mechanism for a dramatic physical change in response to external stimuli already exists.
So let's build up some details.
If we start with the classics, Flareon, Jolteon, & Vaporeon, then what actually are the fire stone, thunder stone and water stone respectively that are needed to induce this transformation, and also induce transformation and maturity in other Pokemon species. The Pokedex would tell you them emit some sort of radiation, but there's only so many sorts of radiation that could be, and things in the universe are exposed to radiation all the time, so what's an alternative explanation.
Actual biological molecules. Whether these are hormones or cytokines (another sort of chemical signal used by living things), either of these existing in high concentrations in the stone could plausibly induce the appropriate evolution. So how do they get there?
My preferred theory is that these 'stones' are not all mineral, but a matrix colonized by bacteria or single celled organisms from extreme environments that just happen to be secreting the chemical signals Eevee use to determine what sort of environment they are in. The higher the concentration of 'fire stone bacteria' they're exposed to, the more likely it is for the Flareon form to offer the best chance or survival, and the same for the other types of stones.
This could work with a positive feedback loop. The more hormone the Eevee is exposed to, the more sensitive it becomes to that hormone (or insensitive to the others it becomes) until it reaches a critical threshold and the 'evolution' commences.
As a result, exposure to a fire, water or thunder stone would not be the only way to get a Flareon, Vaporeon or Jolteon, it would just be the fastest way. Eevee living their lives in extreme environments could gradually accumulate enough exposure to these secreted hormones over time before evolving naturally. Even Eevee living in non-extreme environments could spontaneously evolve into one of these forms, purely by chance and random exposure, but at a slower rate.
Moss rocks for Leafeon and Ice rocks for Glaceon could function by a nearly identical mechanism, only instead of touching the stone, their chemical signals may instead be pheromones on the air produced by microorganisms living on/in that rock. This also implies that those microorganisms are elsewhere in similar environments, just at lower concentrations.
Espeon, Umbreon and Sylveon evolve differently, because their evolution is triggered by affection plus one other condition.
Now, the obvious choice for the evolution trigger in these cases is oxytocin, the so-called 'love hormone', but there's a few concerning implications of that, since oxytocin surges happen with a couple of other biological events which don't strictly require friendship or affection to occur. It's still a plausible choice though, but perhaps alongside something like serotonin, gradually binding to the appropriate receptors until the positive feedback loop is triggered. In this way, friendship, hugs and chocolate can push an Eevee towards one of these evolutions, but which one?
Espeon and Umbreon are determined by the time of day, with Espeon evolving during the day and Umbreon evolving during the night. So the level of melatonin in the brain may determine which evolution occurs. Now in a game that's easy, but in this hypothetical natural world, it may mean that Umbreon and Espeon are more common at higher latitudes where the day lengths are more extreme with the season, with more Umbreon developing in winter, and more Espeons developing in Summer.
Sylveon also evolves with some type of affection, but it must know a fairy-type move to do so. This is a little harder to hypothesize, as how can just knowing a fairy-type move induce a different evolution? Does it induce an accumulation of a different hormone in the Eevee every time it's used? I'm not totally satisfied with that idea, as these evolutions seem to happen in response to extreme environments.
My preferred hypothesis is that Sylveon evolves in response to the presence of dragon-type molecules in the environment. The more dragon-types there are around, the more use that Eevee would have from a fairy-type move, and the more advantage it has in evolving to Sylveon.
In addition to these different means of evolution in the wild, it's quite possible that groups of Eevees will evolve into different types, even in the same environment, as once an individual starts to become sensitized to a couple of signalling molecules, those molecules are bound to it, so can't be used by the next Eevee to come along. So you could plausibly have mixed groups co-existing in the wild.
This is, of course, a lot of speculation given what we know, and assuming the Pokedex is written by a ten year old. But I could potentially think of enough tests to occupy a full time job as an Eevee raiser and researcher.

"On my way to school, I was using my phone intently. A 9 year old Boy turned to me at the traffic crossing and asked, "Are you playing Pokemon GO?"
I smiled at the question.
"Nope, sadly I don't. You?"
"I caught 74 Pokemon so far. Sir, you know I wanna be a Pokemon Master."
That statement blew me away a little. Why? No, not because he completed the PokeDex in a day. But the fact that this Boy has a dream. Yes, his dream may appear small and insignificant to many adults but to him, it is ginormous, and he is well on his way to catch em' all.
I am an educator. For many years now, my dream is to fulfill the dreams of others. Youths today do not need a sage on a stage, but a guide by the side.
To my fellow teachers, I think we should all start playing Pokemon GO! ...Urm, I mean we should all learn to listen to the dreams of our students. Homework, projects and exams wont get them there;
You will.
Our students are like Pokemon. They need someone to catch and train them. Our students want to win battles and earn gym badges.
They have their strengths and weaknesses (e.g. fire-type is super effective against grass-type). Not all of them are good in Math and Physics. Teachers, give them room to fail. It is okay. Stop expecting a Bulbasaur to beat a Charizard.
Sometimes they lose. It is our job to bring them to the Pokemon center to nurse their disappointment (e.g. not performing for N Levels).
They level up too. Some evolve faster than others; others take a little more time. Some, like Pikachu, do not even know how to evolve until you give him a moment of inspiration (i.e. thunder stone).
Over the years, I have seen so many teachers throw away students like Magikarps. Yes, they do not seem to be very capable initially. But with much patience and love, they soon become Gyarados - strong and fearless.
Teachers, we are visionary leaders. We do not predict the future; we create it.
As an educator, I choose to see my students as Eevees. They have the freedom to become a Flareon, Vaporeon or Jolteon. Lawyer, plumber, architect, or whichever so long they serve Singapore with excellence and integrity.
Question: Am I catching my students' hearts and training them to become their very best?
P.S. Not every student can be a legendary Pokemon, and that's fine 😊"

Nuzlocke - Ultra Moon (Part 4)
<<Prev - Next>>
Chapter 6 - Rules of Nature
After the Fire Trial, I was more than eager to face the Grass Trial: I had a team with good advantages and resistances, so I wasn’t too worry about it... Not like I let my guard down given the past. In the meantime I added Soma to the team, using immediately my newly acquired Water Stone to turn him into a Vaporeon, so I grinded him a bit in the Lush Jungle, without the fear of Pursuit.
Tumblr media
I had finally cleared all the Trials of the Island, all I needed to do was to face the Kahuna, Rock specialist... Which wasn’t good at all. Oliver, Dammek, Jiro and especially Douglas weren’t very fond of it. I had to rely on Raiden and Soma.
But before that I crossed the Diglett Cave and, once outside, I had to solve a difficult case... Five Dittos impersonating humans!
Tumblr media
Once I cleared the streets, I marched to the Ruins, arena for my Grand Trial. But before that I had to save some Aether Foundation guys from Team Skulls. Unfortunately, this time they were lead by their Lieutenant, Plumeria. I found myself in a rather tight spot with Jiro versus a rather powerful Salandit: she took a Fire Shot, that she tanked, but she could not stay on the field. I thought she would not repeat Fire Shot on a Dragon Type, probably relying on Poison or physical attacks, so I throw in Raiden. Bad call. Despite my guesses, she insisted on Fire Shot and killed Raiden. That was a huge loss for the team, both as a mate and as an asset: no more Steel tank, no more Intimidation, no more Physical Attacker.
Soma had to seal the deal with Plumeria, but now I had to face Olivia with Soma as the only option without weaknesses... Oliver could probably hold his ground, but the others were in a tight spot.
As Anorith entered the battlefield, I took few turns setting up the defenses: Acid Armor twice and Aqua Ring. Anorith went down easily, but Lileep was kind a pain in the neck: Giga Drain wasn’t fatal, but it undid most of my damage, so the battle dragged on quite a bit, until I landed Confusion with Water Pulse. With Lycanroc I was afraid of Crits, but one strike was enough to take him down.
Island cleared, but with four casualties.
Chapter 7 - I'm the best there is at what I do: screwing up my life
[[Narration wise I’ll skip Aether Paradise, it was rather pointless]]
I sailed to Ula’ula Island and I was off to a rough start: my good pal Hau challenged me... Something was different about him. He was even more determined than before, but also a little... vicious? Maybe it was just my impression, but in any case it was a very tough battle: victory without casualties was achieved with great suffering and effort.
I went to the Gardens to meet Kahui, but I left my guard down: thinking Douglas could outspeed a Raichu and U-Turn he got hit by a Thunderbolt. No need for crits, it was a 1HKO. That was my fucking screw up. But more were to come.
I did what I needed to do in Malie City and left for Route 10. And then...
Tumblr media
I was devasted. I did thought of the possibility of an Ice Move, but that was supposed to be rare... My grief and the grief of my team was palpable and that heavily influenced my performances, leading to a slaughter of the rookies that were supposed to fill the voids.
Looking at them back, most of them were something I could not foresee: Pursuit on Raine the Natu from a Crabrawler, Fearow using Mirror Move to mimic Brick Break and oneshot Mako the Komala, Ribrienne the Raticate going down from a Crit from Absol.
Still that was ton of blood on my hand, a heavily unbalanced team and more challenges to come.
What was I supposed to do???

pokemon go tips: prepare your tier with minimal candies & stardusts
* this post is for gyms trainers only. be a happy pokemon goer without calculating stardust/candies is much more important *
for trainers Lv<20
only evolve those pokemons having highest Lvs but TRY NOT TO POWER UP ANY.
sorry for those trainers below Lv20 bcz what you caught/hatched are not cost effective for further power up (pokemon Lvs won higher than your current trainer Lv before Lv30).
evolve only cost candies so pick those you can catch most(aka you can get most candies). after trainer Lv20 that’s safe to pick those hatched(forever Lv 20) with higher IVs, or those pokemons Lvs very near your trainer Lvs, until reaching trainer Lv30.
more stardusts, candies, candidates
catch every pokemons(especially those evolved forms give more stardust & candies per catch) for stardusts. catch target pokemons as much as possible to get more candies (with pinap berries; also discover & save those potential evolve candidates).
to make the most effective use of your balls & berries, don’t waste them on a pokemon that don’t evolve with high CP - & it only give you 100 stardusts after many throws, eg murkrows, & their candies are useless bcz you’re not going to power up them (may be only after gen 4 launched).
the road to a gym trainer is very long, be patient, save candies & stardusts & wait for that destiny one. reaching trainer/pokemon Lv30 is not hard , it would be much more harder to power up a tyranitar from 3400-3600CP(only very serious gym trainer does care tho).
basic
try pick higher Lvs to evolve rather than those having high IV but very low Lv
higher Lv pokemons need less candies/stardusts to reach certain Lvs. wild caught pokemons maximum Lv is 30 (after reaching trainer Lv30). all hatched (after trainer Lv20) are in Lv20.
IV is about potentials but when our goal actually is CP then that’s all about power up cost. roughly,
power up Lv20-30 need >DOUBLE stardust/candies from Lv1;
power up Lv30-39(actual) need even >4 TIMES COST OF Lv20-30!
we can walk candies but not stardusts. so please save stardusts only for those really ‘worth’ to power up - usually those pokemons having highest maximum CP gives you more CP/HP gains per every power up-
(for HP gains: you may even power up a fainted pokemon until 1HP in order to use potions without revives! that why you should keep more stardust as you think)
when a pokemon hitting Lv29 its power up cost is 5000 stardust/4 candies, please save those wild caught pokemons need >4 candies(aka Lv>25) to power up for further evolve, whatever what their IVs (better IV>50 tho). better transfer all pokemons maximum CP <1500 even after evolve, they are not effective in both power up & further battles.
try not to power up a Lv1 pokemon even it’s IV100 - even if it’s a dragonite - that’s not ever cost effective to power up a Lv30 pokemon with IV50, unless you prepared 125000 stardust & 126 candies for power up from Lv1 to Lv30.
attackers
attackers need: good moveset & higher CP(but no need the highest) if possible
roughly most hatched pokemons IVs are expected around 77 (yeah recently IV spread in hatched is certainly decreasing) so don’t rely on those hatched. just don’t dream about buying incubators can give you some IV100. IV100 can evolve in shitest moveset. just catch more Lv>25 & IV>75 is good enough.
for attackers usually only pokemons reaching Lv30 or above (usually CP>1500) are effective enough in gym battles. candies for evolved only, then pick those evolved with best movesets to power up. transfer the rest - bcz you’re not going to power up them, even it have the best IV(unless its base CP>2000).
attacker types depends, but machamps(double fighting moves) can defeat blissey & tyranitar very fast, & every trainer must have cloyster(avalanche/blizzard) to defeat all dragons. magneton(double electric moves)/jolteon for gyarados.
better have some exeggutor with solar beam or rhydon with stone edge/earthquake gives incredible all around damages. gengar/espeon/alakazam with best movesets is good for it’s highest attack value but their HP is relatively low
water type i suggest starmie or vaporeon/feraligatr with hydro pump (actually every hydro pump is good except blastoise, every grass type + solar beam is even better whatever it is). fire type you should have arcanine with double fire moveset.
the pokemons mentioned above - their non-evolved are quite widespread, means you can collect more candies as well as more chance to evolve a really good one with good moveset. eeveelution is an good example, eevee are easy to catch, & their evolved only have same type movesets & in strongest rank.
other types are not essential for me, i have to say those counter types are not very common in gym defenders (or i should say pokemons mentions above are enough to cover most of the defender types)
defenders
defenders need: highest CP if possible (means potential high IVs), BLISSEYs
MOVES/TYPES IS NOT REALLY ESSENTIALS FOR DEFENDERS. moves/types make nearly no different on defeated time.
actually you can put everything in a gym, but it would be better to save your stardusts only for power up those having highest CP: dragonite/tyranitar (better IV>90, or at least leaders said they have the best IV aka >80), also blissey if you have (also better IV>75, blissey <1800CP is not good enough).
higher CP can be in higher position in gyms means you may hold a gym little longer than other pokemons in lower gym Lvs. dragonite/tyranitar with 3400CP usually can hold a higher position with not much problems unless the rest team fellows/attackers are crazy af.
other high CP choice are rhydon, gyarados, vaporeon. they’re good if you don’t have dragonite/tyranitar, or those candies are difficult to get more. others maximum CP are too low to mention about (actually defender tier better have >2500CP in order to hold a gym more effectively)
blissey (or snorlax as substitute, not as half effective as tho) can make most gyms trainers vomit bcz its extremely high HP & it powerful moves kill attacker very fast. 2 machamps can hardly defeat a 2500CP blissey, please imagine a line of >3000CP blissey x 10 - it definitely is a nightmare.
overall dragonite is easier to get candies to power up so never transfer those dragonites with ‘bad’ moves. usually IV not less than 40 (better >60 tho) is still worth to power up to certain Lvs unless better choice is available.
