Blood Diamond; Year Five

ahh!! the blood diamond one shots are always so enjoyable to read and that make me think so much about my own characters and their backstories and childhoods as well. this one in particular really got to me; there isn't much room for childhood discussion in btrtv and the way you characterize young kendall and james made me MELT. so accurate to real kids, first of all, but there was so much shared about each other with just a few lines of dialogue. katie tugging james' hair at the end is like. the perfect precursor to their relationship as they grow older too lmao! i always look forward to your work :) <3

aughauifafvaibie there are never enough words to describe how well you write katie and the knights. even if this was just a short story reworked to be in kendall's pov, the strong ties between them are evident and i love the little quirks and rituals they all have that you sneak in there. how kendall instantly knows something wrong with katie, how katie pushes back against him, everything is just *chefs kiss* excited to read katie's pov if you ever wish to share that as well!!! <33

god. in kames we DO trust. everything about this one-shot had me going through like. every single emotion possible for a person to feel. lyn is the character of all time + i love how james (and kendall, reluctantly) got to participate in a scheme akin to their youth to make sure her date goes perfectly :)) and the dual line between what was going on with lyn and Nathan helped kendall and james learn more about each other - even after being together for so long!! thought about this one for days ngl and the drawings you made live in my head rent free. im just 1000% obsessed thank you so so so much for sharing :)

AHHHHH RONNIE MY SWEET MY LOVE MY EVERYTHINGGG god the story you are weaving her for and kendall have me (affectionately) tearing my hair out. the way these chapters set up her relationships with most of the main characters is just so special. though everyone is just a little bit different than one another, and all the teens have their own special quirks, they're all still able to get along and make friends. i imagine in the tough Hollywood industry, that's all they have. ronnie slowly getting to know and opening up to the other girls, the band, guitar dude, and everyone else is so sweet! each chapter brings a new understanding to her character, and i love every little thing about her :) getting to read her and kendall's story is a privilege!! so excited for their future heheh <33

RANT INCOMING

Dude I listened to it maybe a year ago and just. WOAUGH. I'm seeing it in a few months and I'm BEYOND excited. Nearly everything about that musical is top tier for me. The beautiful voices... the characterization...

ESPECIALLY love the highlight on Pony and Johnny's relationship. cause like. wow. they really were something. :) Their duets are some of my favorites amongst the soundtrack, the lyrics and their voices work sooo well together.

Also LOVELOVELOVE the focus on Darry's struggles too, and a greater focus on Dally's relationship with Johnny :') make me hurt make me cry...

I LOVE all the casting (Pony, Johnny, Cherri, Dally, Darry, Soda, okay actually I'm just listing all the characters... whoops...) the choreography, the set, the costuming, the EVERYTHINGGG If the cast changes before I get to see them live I will be so normal (depression.)

I think that there are some things that I wish were translated into song instead of done in spoken scenes in between, and some characters should've gotten more of a highlight imo (entirely thought that they tossed Steve out the window when I first listened to it & also who the actual heck is Ace...), but I haven't seen the musical live yet so!!

And I think that where as most of the lyrics hit for me, there are a few times when I think there could be a little better lyricism. Small things like in Justice for Tulsa when Cherry goes "Could this have gone a different way, I can't believe I'm standing here today" feel a bit too simple? But I digress. The lyrics work when they need to, and my god they hit hard.

They hit the overall mood SOOOO good the instrumentation punches me in the face x 3000 every time I listen to the soundtrack, and man some of these tracks have for real become comfort songs.

I love the book so much, I read it at the time in my life that I needed to, it reminds me of the teacher who introduced me to it who since passed, and I'm happy with how they adapted the musical.

TLDR; I love the musical very much.

Could get into hour long conversations about it haha

Anon, have you listened to it? I recommend you do if you've read the book, it's a little bit hard to pick up on its own!

🍉 - I like longer, multi chaptered fics.

I HAVE to have it multi chaptered (unless it’s a really short oneshot), because to me the chapters help organize it? Especially when I write more than one POV. I like to alternate chapters so that every chapter is a different POV and you get to see both sides of the characters, but it doesn’t just randomly switch and there’s consistency. I like writing medium-long works mostly just because I have a bunch of ideas that MUST be included.

🍇 - there’s three.

1: Invader Zim - Episode: Mopiness of Doom - while I know it’s not an “official episode” I feel like there is a lot more they could have done with that for future episodes and- I just- it’s so cute? Especially since ZADF is one of my favorite IZ pairings. I LOVE the thought that they need eachother to feel motivated, whether it’s in an enemy way, friendship way, or lover way. I feel like that episode is also great for literally any dib/zim dynamic as well, and i would love to write about it a million times over.

2. Invader Zim - Episode: TAK: The Hideous New Girl - I’m pretty sure the entire IZ community can agree we DID NOT SEE ENOUGH OF TAK. I want to just write about the entire episode in general, why did Tak come, her history on Irk, her relationship with Zim, EVERYTHINGGG. They could have done so much with her character. I actually plan on starting a fic about her once I reach a certain point in my current one.

3. Hilda - Episode: The Fairymound, Episode: The Fairy Isle - the reason I’m putting these two together is because the Fairymound provides all of the background info for The Fairy Isle. I want to expand so much on how the Fairymound works and how Hilda got it the Fairy Isle. I also want to write about Joanna’s parents life as children because it was SO CUTE, as well as Joanna’s childhood because it was genuinely so sad and I LOVE writing angsty stuff.

Okii take your time! I'm still on chapter 5 bc I'm a very slow reader lmao and also I like to analyze everythinggg and relive stuff and connect dots. I'm a writer too and I struggle a lot, so observing writers like you encapsulate so much in just a few words, capture a character's essence so effectively, and blend the perfect ingredients for compelling storytelling is both inspiring and just fucking amazing. Writing is hard lmao, I lovehate it. So I understand the work behind it and I respect it so much. You write precisely what I love to read in terms of world-building, characterization, and dialogue. Excelling in all these areas is rare (and sticking with such a complex and long story is too)!!! I can sense the passion behind each word, and you leave no aspect of the characters' minds unexplored, which is exactly what I LOVE. every time i get a message like this i literally read it over and overrrr. so thank you so much... it means everythinggg to hear specific comments about my writing like this from another person's perspective 😭😭😭😭😭<33 you saying that it genuinely made you anxious reading it.. .FDJSDLKJSDFSDFJ THAT'S LITERALLY ALL I COULD EVER HOPE FOR AS A WRITER.....<333 whenever i've read a fic in the past and it's genuinely evoked an emotion from me (whether it's me having to tab out / put the fic down and go for a walk or something bc i'm giggling so much, getting a genuine pit in my stomach / ache in my chest, or feeling hollow and empty for days after finishing it), i love it sooo much lmao, and those always end up being my favorite fics!!! so hearing that from u makes me happy <33 THANK YOU.. i think i've said it once before, but before squid game i have finished maybe a total of 2 fics in my whole life bc i struggle with staying motivated to finish things when i feel like i'm the only one who gaf about the subject matter. i have an unlucky streak of getting attached to the unpopular side characters of a show, and i honestly thought that's what was gonna happen with nam-gyu, especially with how negative ppl were about him when SG first came out, but i'm pleasantly surprised with how quickly he became a fan favorite.

comments like these r fr what keep me going with nam-gyu, and no matter how many times i hear it, it always makes me soooo happy and so surprised to hear that there r ppl that genuinely fw my writing and get enjoyment from it bc i'm definitely not as confident in my writing as i am with other things that i make <333
