I guess I didn’t do too bad if they had me stand at the end with the other soloist. ☺️

I normally try to avoid getting all "real life" on Tumblr, but also wanted to signal boost this (enough that I'm about to Blaze this):
The University of Michigan Gilbert and Sullivan Society (UMGASS) will be holding auditions for the Fall Semester's production of Ruddigore on September 11th-13th, 2023.
If you live in Southeastern MI, and like to act and sing (and possibly dance!) then please check out more information about the show and the audition process here:
Ensemble members are only required two nights a week for most of the rehearsal process, so it's not a big commitment.
ALSO: they are looking for people to direct and music-direct their next show, Iolanthe, which will be produced from Jan-April of 2024.
More info on how to get involved as a prod-staff member here:

5/11/23.
I learned about this from a fellow Bandcamper. If you're looking for an easy way to learn about new music, simply follow some Bandcampers who you respect or have similar tastes. The click the lightning bolt at the top right of the Bandcamp page and scroll away.
Grasses are a Ypsilanti, Michigan band. It doesn't seem like they're active anymore as their Facebook page and Bandcamp page are from 2018. This is delightful indie rock in the vein of 28th Day, Yo La Tengo, Barbara Manning and R.E.M.
This cassette looks to be self-released.

Julia Niswender was a young student with her whole life ahead of her when her life was tragically cut short in December 2012. The then-23-year-old was a student at Eastern Michigan University, where she was studying communications. At the time of her death, Julia lived with a roommate in an off-campus apartment in Ypsilanti. It was inside this apartment that Julia was brutally murdered. Julia's roommate was reportedly not present at the time Julia was killed. The two were keeping in touch via text, but at some point, Julia stopped replying. She also abruptly stopped communicating with her other friends and family members. Julia's loved ones began to have serious concerns when they learned that she had not shown up to a friend's Christmas party, nor had she shown up to work. Police were subsequently asked to perform a welfare check at Julia's apartment on December 11th, 2012.
When authorities entered the apartment, they found the residence in disarray. However, nothing appeared to have been stolen. Inside the bathroom, officers stumbled upon a tragic scene: Julia was dead. She was found face down in the bathtub. Her clothes had been cut off, and her phone was found beneath her body. Julia also had ligature marks on her wrists, suggesting she had been tied up at some point before her death. Julia's death was quickly classified as a murder. An autopsy declared that her death was caused by asphyxiation due to drowning, but authorities maintain that she was deprived of oxygen prior to being put in the bathtub. DNA was collected from the murder scene, which was matched to two different males. Investigators also found seminal fluid on Julia's body, which was linked to a male who had gotten a vasectomy. Julia's stepfather, James Turnquist, was labeled a person of interest early on into the investigation. Turnquist had undergone a vasectomy procedure, so there was speculation that the seminal fluid found on Julia's body belonged to him. Additionally, a friend of Julia's told police that Turnquist had sexually abused Julia during her childhood. Oddly enough, said friend would later deny making such claims. At some point throughout the investigation, Turnquist was arrested on charges of child pornography. However, those charges were later dropped. Turnquist reportedly underwent two polygraph examinations while being questioned about Julia's case, and he passed both times. The DNA found on Julia's murder scene was compared to Turnquist's DNA, but the results were inconclusive. One DNA sample was too weak to make a match, and the other sample was not matched to Turnquist. While many still suspect Turnquist is responsible for Julia's death, he has never been labeled as a suspect by authorities. As of today, Julia's case remains unsolved. No suspects have ever been publicly named. Julia's loved ones are still dedicated to finding justice, and they hope to see her killer(s) get convicted. If you have any information that could lead to the arrest in Julia's case, please contact the Ypsilanti Police Department at (734) 483-9510.

Last year, in June 2021, Ryan Cuong Le-Nguyen shot a six year old, injuring him, over a bike being his yard… a bike. The six year old mentioned that he also attacked him with a sledgehammer, but he was too quick. He was released on bail but was put back in custody after the judge got backlash. He’s now serving 40 month- 15 years in prison, after pleading no contest. A child… over a fucking bike.
And before anyone say “ I read and article and he ( the kid) threw Gatorade at his door.”
Even if the kid did, shooting him is the answer? He couldn’t talk to the child’s parents? He couldn’t walk door to door and say “ Do you have a child, he threw a sports drinks at my door.”? Really? You’d shoot a child over spilt juice?
Literally the town is already fucked. A restaurant with no relations to the man was attacked.
Whatever divide that was there, is now even bigger. And I truly hope that this town heals and that child holds no ill will.

I love the analogy of the forest when it comes to describing Autism. My attention to detail and inability to filter information is something that impacts my daily life. I can see patterns where others can't, sometimes even seeing patterns where there are none. I love this book so much ❤️ . . . . . . #autism #masking #unmasking #unmaskingautism #book #books #selfimprovement #library #librarybook #librarybooks #ydl #ypsilanti #ypsilantilibrary https://www.instagram.com/p/ClgolvhLi5Z/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

This man was accused over 14 years ago for an armed robbery in Ypsilanti  based on surveillance footage that showed a man 4 inches shorter than him.
The real atrocity is how badly prosecutors wanted to nail him that they secretly leveraged his own father with a plea deal to a completely unrelated matter if he would identify his son as being one of the four men committing the robbery in the video. Basically, this man’s own father threw him under the bus to falsely accuse him to save his own cowardly hide....worse still, no one in the robbery was sought after and the plea deal was never mentioned in the course of presenting “irrefutable” evidence that sent him to prison for 14 years.
He is now free, but there are serious matters to discuss as to why and how this happened.
