Ys is probably the best action RPG series y'all never heard of. Just trust me when I say they're amazing. Both Ys 8 and 9 are on the Switch eshop and they're both phenomenal games with their own self contained stories, you don't gotta know any more about the chars or lore than Adol is the red one and Dogi is the blue one and they love each other v much.

Ys 8 is an island survival game w collection and crafting mechanics where you can upgrade your base and get to know the people you're stranded with while you search for a way to get off the island.

Ys 9 has a slightly darker tone, pretty much inspired by the phantom thieves from Persona 5 with a huge map to explore and traversal abilities like running up walls and the story revolves around your lil band of misfit thieves while you try to figure out how to leaves the city.

Should You Get Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana on PlayStation 5?

For anyone who was eyeing this game but hasn’t got it yet, if they do decide to dive into the Isle of Seiren, PlayStation 5 is the recommended console. For those who have completed this travelogue already, it’s a harder sell since while there are visual and performance improvements, there isn’t any substantial new content.
