Abandoned scrolls and archivy themes in Tangled [Part 1]

A few weeks ago, I mentioned how two episodes of Tangled (the series, not the movie), have "abandoned scrolls." This post will focus on that and more, as archives are not explicitly shown in the series, but there are archivy themes without a doubt.

In the episode, "Keeper of the Spire," Raps, Eugene, Lance, and Cass travel to The Spire to get information on the last part of the scroll. In the process, they meet the pretentious "keeper" of the spire (later it turns out she isn't the real keeper but only formerly the keeper's assistant), who calls herself Calliope and she holds various artifacts in the spire, a closed-off museum of sorts. As a scholar of sorts who can do magic tricks, she also has a messy library. There are a lot of archivy vibes to this episode too, as they have to climb to the top of a mountain to get to a "vault" (which is just a tower with artifacts) but an archives is not explicitly shown. The real keeper, at the end of the episode, makes Calliope the keeper of the spire; Raps also gets the scroll she is looking for.

Before going further, I'd like to say the mention of keeper got me really excited, partly because it connects to what I talked about when I reviewed the prelude episodes of Recorded by Arizal, where the protagonist wants to be a keeper. As it turns out, many archivists see the words recordkeeper (the long form of the term "keeper") and archivist as the same. In that review, I noted that "keepers are curators, guardians, protectors, custodians, caretakers, or guards who visually lay hold onto something, like records, similar to roles that archivists have."

I'm not sure if any of those who worked on Tangled considered the same, but I know Yssa Badiola, the creator of Recorded by Arizal undoubtedly did so, without a question, because she stated that the "main driving idea/theme" of the series is a "discussion of record keeping and learning," which is great for a series to focus on!

Minor updates on what's happening with RWBY:V9 production.

Other than the news of RT's Yssa Badiola becoming their new Episodic Director for RWBY Volume 9, Jeff and Casey Williams are making new steps into their future with RWBY.

Jeff Williams is retiring, because in his own words:

"Over the last 12 to 15 years, I worked on music a lot. Like, a REAL lot. I’m glad I did and I am happy overall with the music I made alongside my partners.

In the last few years I started to realize that I wasn’t really accomplishing new things, and that I was missing out on a lot of other parts of life that I didn’t have time or energy for while working obsessively on music.

I asked myself how I would feel if I worked on RWBY Volume 9, if I busted ass for another year, put out another good album that fans enjoyed. I would feel the same as I felt after all the other releases, and that’s the problem.

I want my life to be one of change, growth and journeys. To me, that’s what creativity is all about.

I’ve been retired from music since releasing RWBY Vol 8, and for now I don’t see myself going back to it. I mean, who knows? Maybe I will, maybe I won’t? Right now, I’m not stressing over that. I’m enjoying using my time and energy and creativity in other ways.

I suppose I should spend one sentence making sure you know that there’s absolutely no negative situation between me and Rooster Teeth or anybody else. We’ve been good to each other and for each other; we’ve had an extremely successful relationship with an inordinate amount of trust on both sides.

And yes, now I get to sit in the crowd and watch Casey melt your faces!

Casey Williams and now Martin Gonzalez will continue making music for RWBY onwards.

Firstly, I do feel happy for Jeff, and I find his letter relatable. I do hope he can find the spark to make music again, but for now, I am glad he's giving himself a break than forcing himself to make something.

I could be wrong, but the second paragraph sounds like he's been held back from reaching his full potential because of working on RWBY for such a long time. I could be reading it wrong, but nonetheless. I hope he's well and hopes he can make a return to music in his own way.

Camp Camp Fact #4

In the Camp Camp teaser trailer, there are snippets of some of the campers' lives outside of camp, including what appears to be Space Kid's school as well as Neil using an inhaler.

In order, unknown bedroom with wood walls and beds with a red spread though do to the hand we see it likely belongs to a white camper, Space Kid walking passed wall cubbies, Nurf grabbing his backpack from a filthy too, Neil tying his shoes in a clean room with yellow carpetting, Dolph being Dolph in a red and tan room, Nerris picking up a camp shirt from a pile of laundry, Harrison standing in front of his closet full of magician props, Nerris putting on the elf ears in a wood walled bathroom, and Neil taking a puff from an inhaler.

(There are other parts of the montage, but they were omitted because they offer little information or visual interest. It is important to note none of them offer any information about Max.)

Barb had Kerry and Yssa on Always open and asked What their favorite episode was. Yssa said the finale cause of it's powerful message,Kerry said the Bumbleby episode was his favorite.

Arizal, Recordkeeping, and the World of Maktaba [Part 2]

In the second episode of the show’s prelude, Log ii, she interviews Dante, a real keeper, who tells her the harsh reality of gathering information for the global archive, explaining that he is alone “all the time.” His words cause Arizal to have a personal crisis in the next episode, Log iii. She laments that it may be impossible to be a keeper, worries about leaving her stuff behind, like her favorite (and precious) fiftieth-anniversary edition of a book titled The Littlest Royal. This item holds special value to her above anything else and represents a turning point in the show. At the same time, she wants to discover more about the world and explore it with her friends. Her spirits are lifted when Rizella calls her an “adorable bookworm” after proving her obscure knowledge of an ancient settlement. Although these episodes contrast with accepted definitions of an archivist as a person who has “expertise in the management of records of enduring value” or the head of an archives program, by being a keeper, Arizal will be “responsible for records of enduring value.” This relates to Badiola’s assessment that vlogging and future record keeping, in other formats, by Arizal, is inherently archival. In the final episode of the show’s prelude, Log iv, Arizal finally leaves her self-imposed isolation in her house. She reflects on a secretive mountain overlook about her dream to be a keeper and how her friends helped her leave the house so she would not wallow in her sadness. Arizal declares that she wants to leave the city and is ready to visit places her mother (a former ambassador) visited, discover a new part of the world, and find something to love. In the last shots of the episode, the primary athenaeum votes to accept her application. Since an athenaeum is a scientific or literary association that tries to advance learning, Arizal will be in good company with fellow scholars who enjoy learning and knowledge, including those who read for fun, taking in information “with no thought of application,” to use Dante’s words to her in the second episode.

As Arizal explores the world, collecting records for world’s public archive, she will be, as a result of her societal role as a keeper, be bound to the records themselves, and their creation. Like Dante, the keeper she talked with in the second prelude episode, Arizal will undoubtedly be chronicling her adventures using her electronic devices, whether by vlogging or something else, as she “records her journey into adulthood” in Badiola’s words. [13] Whatever Arizal collects on her journeys across the vast world will undoubtedly make the annals of history richer for all the people of Maktaba.

My Dead Little Roosters Prediction and Theories

Pictured above is a list of all of the members as well all of the potential weapons used to murder in the show.

This is the riddle that explains who will die, what will be used to kill them, and in which order will they die in.

These are my predictions for how the series will go (along with corrections and confirmations). I might come back to this post in order to explain my reasonings for why I chose what I did as well as updates on whether or not I was right. But, I don’t feel like doing it right now.
