Interesting premise - a young woman ends up interviewing to join a Magical Girl company. That said, I feel like this is sort of aimed just sideways of what I'm actually interested in, so while I'll read the next volume or two I don't know if I'm as excited as I was in my initial imaginations. Specifically, the big theme so far is 'small startup companies will save the world by breaking the rules' in ways that remind me too much of tech-bro finance that wants to 'disrupt markets.' Kana is introduced interviewing for large mega-corps that are too hidebound and checked out to see the worth of her passion and diligence, but she ends up working for a place that gives lip service to training, but also is too understaffed to let her complete it before she has to deploy dangerous magic to compensate for her partner's busted equipment; this is supposed to be a good thing, and not a harbinger of multiple expected safety and labor violations to come. I would love if future volumes talk about how many regulations are written in blood, but since they almost literally say 'move fast and break things' and 'we're like a family here' I don't expect it to come up. Also, some mild transphobia about how weird it is that her boss is a guy wearing a magical girl dress and no one else comments on it. (Also also, disappointing that the other weird employee is 'glasses guy who does all the computer coding' which in this world means 'makes their magic spells' - if this is going to be a show about adult working magical girls, one of the things I want to see is them doing their own programing/spell-work.) Anyway, overall interest but I don't know if I'll stick with it long-term; I'm sure there's a person for whom the valorization of startup culture is the antidote for their office-job ennui, but that's not me.

If Magical Girls was a job

A simple question that makes an entire series and world build is one of my favorite kind of stories. That's what "Kabushiki Gaisha Magi Lumiere" (Magilumiere co. Ltd.) is mostly about.

Written by Sekka Iwata and illustrated by Yu Aoki, it's a "what if" of modern day society that magical girls became an actual world renown career. Kai, which are your monsters or spirits that appeared out of nowhere. Became a menace to society, hence the creation of magical girls.

The story follows a college graduate Kana Sakuragi, who's been struggling to find herself a job. Although she has a great talent for memorizing things she studied or research for herself, she couldn't put it her own words or bring out into practice. Till one job interview she meets magical girl Hitomi koshigaya on the job. With her help taking out a Kai, Koshigaya takes her in to her startup company with a president with a huge craze about magical girls.

The story brings up how there are other companies that specialize in different magical girl fields, departments, and of course extermination of kais. It brings in tools, and how they're used, and the history of them. They bring up transformations and how some differ from each other. But most importantly, how some companies just see the money aspect of it all.

I'm only about 12 chapters in, but I like some of the gags, the world building, and of course how some of the outfits are designed. If you like slice of life, action, and of course magical girls. This is a good look up, I hope it gets a chance to get animated honestly.

You don’t remember a thing, only a vivid memory of running some errands, and then your vision went black. You had no idea what was happening, but you knew you had to do something. Now, you stir awake, waking up in a dark room— in a chair with your hands tied to it, completely unaware of the presence behind you.

To the older woman’s surprise, the first thing you do is scan the room, before you calmly place a tug on the rope that bonded you. Interesting, the woman notes, a smirk gracing her features as she steps closer— her beginning to turn crimson as your scent fills her nostrils.

“You really are quite the phenomenon, darling.” She murmurs, placing her hands on your shoulders, a cruel laugh escaping her throat when she feels you tense.

“Are you afraid, my darling?” She whispers, her breath fanning your ear. She’s too close for comfort, but she’s enjoying your little reaction to her presence far too much to pull away.

“Don’t fear. I have no plans of harming you,” she assures, tracing the rim of your earlobe with her cold finger— a chuckle leaving her lips at the feeling of you flinching from her touch.

Her hands snake along your neck, before moving up to caress your cheek.

“I only want you as mine.”
