A thought I had years ago:

I don’t know if it’s because Drew Holmes, Far Cry 5’s Lead Writer (and the new IP Director for Far Cry since August 2023!) was also a writer on BioShock Infinite, but there are a lot of similarities between the two games. For example, although the main antagonists, Zachary Comstock and Joseph Seed, have different goals, ideologies, and morals, they are both described as prophets and known as “Father”. The two men also see Elizabeth and the Junior Deputy as their “child” and call them “The Lamb” because they believe they are destined to fulfill their respective prophecies.

In Infinite, another character, Rosalind Lutece, famously says (about Elizabeth): “The girl is the flame that shall ignite the world.”

And when they were advertising Far Cry 5, they kept saying that the players’ goal, so the Deputy’s role, was to “spark the fires of resistance.”

When I finished Far Cry 5 and started to process the story, I realized that, in the end, while my Deputy indeed sparked the metaphorical fires of resistance, she also, because of the Voice’s prophecy, inadvertently and indirectly sparked the literal fires of the Collapse.

That girl, the Father’s child and the prophet’s Lamb, ended up being the flame that ignited the world.

Jackson pov

The next day after school I met Zachary by the big fountain in the middle of the park at about 8pm at night and we started walking around to find somewhere to sit

Jackson: why do we need to find the right place to stargaze?

Zachary: so we can find some cool star shapes

Jackson:* points to a boat dock* should we sit there?

Zachary: that’s a good idea 

Zachary and Jackson sit down and look up at the night sky

Zackary:* points up at the stars* look at those stars! They look like a circle

Jackson:* holds Zachary’s hand* I’m surprised that you showed up 

Zachary: why?

Jackson: since I know you go to sleep around 8pm and I thought you went to sleep and forgot about this

Zachary: I know but I actually wanted to go stargazing sometime this week 

Jackson: and can I ask you something?

Zachary: yes?

Jackson: so if somebody were to be completely head over heels in love with both you and Aristotle would you let them join your relationship or have it be just you two? 

Zachary: I would but I would have to talk to Aristotle about it first to see if they are comfortable with that

Jackson: that’s understandable

Zachary: why do you ask?

Jackson: just wondering

Zachary: ok and is something wrong?

Jackson: no why?

Zachary: you have been wanting to spend more time with us

Jackson:* puts its head on Zachary’s shoulders* why what’s wrong with that?

Zachary: nothings wrong with that it’s just you don’t like getting a bunch of attention

Jackson: I know it’s just like being around you guys

Zachary: are you getting tired?

Jackson: no I’m not

Zachary: ok

I went home and went to bed but I kept having a weird dream I am with three other people in this dream but I can’t see their faces but I think I know who they are but every time I get a look at their faces I wake up and every time I go back to sleep dream start over again it’s a cycle maybe I should tell my friends about it tomorrow

Zachary pov

Jackson has been acting weird lately and it gets all nervous around me, Charlie and Aristotle i should probably talk to it tomorrow

Ten Great Cover Songs That Aren't "Hurt" By Johnny Cash

I have a spotify playlist called "Total Coverage" and it's where I put the covers I collect. My parameters are strict but, I feel, fair: the song must be covered by a band that does its own material (so no covers-only bands), and they have to do something more interesting with the source material than slowing it down on piano and/or ukulele. There are over 100 songs on the list by now, and I do go back to add more when I find them, but apropos of nothing but my desire to procrastinate here are ten of my favourites, in no particular order, which are NOT the same old covers you see on every single covers list.

1: "Bittersweet Symphony" Originally by The Verve, covered by The Knocks and Foster the People

This track ended up on my most-listened to list of 2022, because it fucking rules. The original is fine, but there's something about how Foster the People elevates the vocals that just makes it catnip for my ears. It's great.

2: "Rosanna" Originally by Toto, covered by Weezer

I'll never forgive Weezer for what they did to "Africa", also by Toto. That cover sucks balls and I hate it. But equally as appalling is how great their cover of "Rosanna" is; they turned up the grit on the guitars and infuse it with edge and energy that the original simply lacks. Goddammit, Weezer.

3: "Jackie and Wilson" Originally by Hozier, covered by Jazz Morley

The golden rule of Hozier covers done by women is that you cannot, under any circumstances, change the pronouns of the song. Hozier writes about women like a lesbian, and either you respect that or you shouldn't cover his stuff. This version of "Jackie and Wilson" is gorgeous and lush, Jazz Morley's voice is great, and she sings it the way it should be sung: sapphically.

4: "Freedom" Originally by George Michael, covered by Christine and the Queens

As my friend Jill put it, somehow this is chill as hell and goes hard as fuck at the same time. Christine and the Queens needs to do more stuff like this; recontextualizing gender and sexuality is basically their bread and butter.

5: "Flagpole Sitta" Originally by Harvey Danger, covered by Elohim and AWOLNATION

This is the only reason I know the lyrics to this song and it's worth it. It's a very Lana Del Rey approach to the tune, with twinkling piano and sultry vocals, and it works incredibly well.

6: "Higher Love" Originally by Whitney Houston, covered by JR JR

Another one that I've listened to so much that it's crept into my regular rotation. Indie pop boys taking on the greatest voice of the generation might not sound very good, but as an OG hipster I can tell you that this is exactly the sort of bright poppy nonsense we ate the fuck up in 2012.

7: "I Think We're Alone Now" Originally by Tiffany, covered by Billie Joe Armstrong

I think Billie Joe always wanted to be a pop princess girlie, and now that Green Day is in the "whatever the fuck we want" phase of their career, he gets to do great covers like this one. Takes a somewhat dated classic and makes it sound absolutely timeless.

8: "Needle in the Hay" Originally by Elliott Smith, covered by Vanessa Carlton

As someone who had both an Elliott Smith and a Vanessa Carlton phase, this is just good synergy for me. But also, more women need to do covers of Elliott Smith. Let's get a trend going. He deserves to be reinterpreted that way.

9: "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!" Originally by ABBA, covered by Zachary Staines

This man really took a disco classic and made it sound like the best Ed Sheeran song that Ed Sheeran could never do. Outstanding.

10: "I Love You Always Forever" Originally by Donna Lewis, covered by Betty Who

I can't believe Betty Who didn't originate this song. It's literally perfect for her. A+, no notes.

1. Their ages... honestly idk. The same as in Off, since they don't seem to age?? If I had to give them ages off the top of my head, I'd say Zach is uuuuuuuhhh 33?? and Sucre is 20-ish maybe. She and Zacharie are on friendly terms. I guess they are "colleagues" of a sort. I think Zach feels responsibility for Sucre.

2. I listened to an album of the same name by the band Minus the Bear and thought it would make a cool name for a character. Besides, it fits him being seemingly "omni"present and "omni"scient.

The episode begins with a combination of cold opens from 'Sportafake' & 'Cry Dinosaur', mixing scenes where Sportacus is stepping on buttons from Cry Dinosaur with scenes where he is controlling the airship in Sportafake. This all in all might actually be my favourite cold open of the season.

Except, this time, it takes him 42 seconds to do all that stuff. It'd take me the full 60 seconds! Trixie and Sweetacus are playing Daredevils. Sweetacus is going down the slide, but Trixie thinks that what he had done (going down the slide like a normal person) was lame, so she decides to show him by going down the slide.. on a wheelbarrow.

So then whaddya know? Sportacus has to save her (shocker!!) and she interrupts Robbie's nap. I forget this scene exists, then I suddenly remember it: "Oh yeah, that scene from New Superhero." Sportacus asks what they're doing and she tells him about Play Day. And guess who is coincidentally eavesdropping?

Robbie Rotten, who doesn't like the sound of Play Day. At all. But he hopes that they play something quiet. When Sportacus leaves, they decide to play dinosaur, and Stephanie joins them. Ziggy wants to eat candy (they say no, LOL!) but they wanna do something exciting and noisy - like cowboys. Robbie is about to sit down, but he bobs back up super fast when they say 'cowboys'. LOL!'

The disguise time sequence actually features a DIE HARD reference, which was nice that the writers put it in. So anyways, Robbie ends up in his cowboy disguise, The Rotten Kid. He is going to challenge the kids to a showdown.

Then he says when he wins that they'll have to be quiet forever. But being the softie he is he would want them to be loud again. Anyways, he takes out his weapon (a cane..?) and he throws it, declaring he needs some more practice. Meanwhile, Ziggy and Trixie are playing cowboys, and Stephanie shows up in what is probably my favourite costume from hers aside from the jumper.

Then Rotten Kid shows up with hay in his mouth (what???) and says that there ain't enough room for the four of them.. but he puts up three fingers. For number ten on the list of the smartest villians.. he is really dumb.

So, anyways, Rotten Kid spits out his hay and nobody knows who he is. It's funnier because Ziggy's like 'Oh no, it's the.. who is this guy?".. and I took about 4 screenshots of Stephanie during this scene because she looks so goofy.

He introduces himself as The Rotten Kid, and says it's high noon (it's 3:15). And he has had enough. So he gets out the rope, swinging it around, but Sportacus' crystal beeps like in Rottenbeard.. so here comes another epic fight scene rated G by action film legend MAGNUS SCHEVING!!

He brings his ping pong paddles and a backpack and starts pedalling downtown. So The Rotten Kid finally ties them to the tree, but Sportacus comes to the rescue, saying that it's just 'you and me'.. then Rotten Kid asks about the kids. LOL!! So Sportacus tells him to make his move, and cue an epic staredown.

Then Rotten Kid's nose twitches (WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN IN THE MOST. RANDOM. TIIMEEESSS???!!!) and he rubs it, yelling that it wasn't his move. So they stare at each other for a while, and then the two grab something from their pockets. Robbie's are empty, from the time he threw the cane in his lair. (Plot armor!!) Sportacus grabs the ping pong paddle and yells for an apple, hitting it with the paddle.

He says 'Look out, kid!' but then all the Tumblr fans saw this scene in 2016 and declared he said 'batch'.. and I'm not talking about a cookie batch. Anyways, the apple hits his hat and it falls off. (Funny thing is that the hat wouldn't have fell off if Rotten Kid didn't move his head!!)

Sportacus says you can't be a cowboy without a hat, and Robbie bends down to pick it up (hear me out..), Sportacus kicks a bucket (how did that even get there? plot armor.), calls for another apple, hits it with the ping pong paddle so it hits Robbie's.. ehm.. posterior and his head falls in the bucket.

So, he has lost the fight. But, Sportacus, being the kind, awesome dude that he is gives Rotten Kid the hat back and he even has the audacity to say thanks. As Rotten Kid goes back to the lair, Sportacus flips over to the kids in a reused shot which was edited to make it look like he has the ping pong paddles in his hand. Sweet editing.

The kids are debating on what to play next, and they ultimately decide something noisy, soccer. But Stingy tells them to change because they're using HIS ball. Meanwhile, Sportacus is playing some soccer of his own.

Then he checks on the kids to see what they're doing, and then Playtime is performed, a song which I genuinely and honestly love so much! Then the kids have a game of soccer, and once the ball is kicked in the goal, Stingy checks on the ball.

It has a grass stain, and he stops the game of soccer. What a clown. If I was in the town, I wouldn't make it 4 episodes without punching Stingy right in his latex nose. Anyways, Robbie is eavesdropping (how can he even see with the bucket on his head?) AGAIN and the kids decide to play something wild - WILD ANIMALS. LAZYTOWN FURRY PROPAGANDA NOT CLICKBAIT AT 3AM!! And Robbie is raging in the lair, asking himself "WHAT HE'S GONNA DOOOOOOOOO!???!!!"

Until he realizes the answer is in front of him (but he can't SEE in front of him!!!) and he throws the bucket off his head, performing 'Master of Disguise', a recycled and better version of Versti Fantur. Damn, Stefan Karl could SING!

So then out of nowhere Robbie goes up on the stairs where there is a mirror waiting for him. Classic 'who-are-you-oh-you're-me' trope because comedy. So the kids are playing Wild Animals. Stephanie is a lion, Trixie is a tiger, and Ziggy is a...

mouse. So Stephanie is playing her bongo drums, Trixie and Steph are roaring and Ziggy is squeaking. Robbie decides to fulfill their wish of playing wild animals.. by becoming a wild animal.

Then he jumps over the railing. LOL!! But he thinks he is missing something. What could it be? A gorilla soundboard? Some bait? No.. you won't believe what he needs. SPORTS. CANDY.

But it's too healthy for him so he decides to unpeel it and throw the peel away. Foreshadowing shot of the peel plays! Anyways, the kids are still banging on the drums, roaring and squeaking, and Robbie is disgusted. What's so bad about having some fun?

Plus, he has noice cancelling headphones for trains. How doesn't he think of using them? So he calls for a rope Sportacus style, and he decides to climb up a wall (while making gorilla noises, LOL!!!!) and swing down on them. But he is too scared, and cue a hilarious sequence where he talks to himself.

One side of him is like "Hurry up and climb the vine, Robbie!" and the other side is like "NO!! I CAN'T!!" until he finally gets the courage to do it. So he's on the wall with a gorilla head and suit, and nobody notices him until Trixie points it out.

So they run away, but Robbie slips on the wall OVER NOTHING (in movies and shows, the character must always trip over nothing.) and swings on accident.. then he hits a tree. LOL!! The scene isn't that funny until we see Stephanie's reaction.

XD!! Then the funny meter turns up a notch when he slips and falls onto his unicycle. Plan - failed. Crotch - broken. He rides around town and scares the kids on accident, then the crystal beeps. I think the guys at LazyTown really liked ropes, because Sportacus uses a really longly knit scarf behind his bed as a rope instead of just flipping down like he did in other episodes.

I guess Magnus really likes ropes. Sportacus kicks a wheelbarrow nearby, then the unicycle hits the edge of the wheelbarrow and Robbie does a frontflip into the unicycle. Sportacus tips him out and now everyone can see it's Robbie.

So, the kids decide to play Bing Bang next (pretty sure that's a dance routine, not a game) and Robbie is super sad and annoyed. When he goes back to his lair, he says nothing can happen to him there.. then he slips on that banana peel he threw out and breaks the lamp.

LOL!! Then the credits play.

Good songs, fast-paced, decent plot. 7/10

Chapter 3: new student

Few minutes before class starts

Zachary: hay Jackson did you hear that a new kid is coming to school today?

Jackson: yea that’s all everyone is talking about apparently they are a well known model and the kid of a famous actor

Zachary: I can’t wait to see them

Mr Dwight: ok everyone quit down we have a new student today why don’t you introduce yourself

Aristotle: my name is Aristotle polonoi and I am going to be with this class from now on

Mr Dwight: ok Aristotle go sit next to Zachary dove the one in the green

Both Aristotles and Zachary’s mind “I have seen you before”

Aristotle goes to sit down next to Zachary

Jackson:* whispers and pokes Aristotle in the arm of the pencil* psst what’s with the goo dripping from your face?

Aristotle:* whispers* I was born with it what’s with your unnaturally skinny body? 

Jackson:* whispers* some reason as you I was born like this

After a few classes lunchtime starts and Aristotle goes to find Jack to go talk to it 

Aristotle: hey so I know our first interaction was kind of weird, but I wanted to know you better

Jackson: nah it’s fine 

Aristotle: good so what’s your name and do you know Zachary? 

Jackson: I’m Jackson and yes I know Zachary we have been best friends since middle school why do you ask?

Aristotle: nice and he was acting a bit weird when I sat down

Jackson: oh he has been having a dream about his future soulmate or something and he said you look a little bit like who he saw also sorry if this is rude, but are you a guy or a girl? 

Aristotle: interesting and I’m neither I’m non-binary

Jackson: cool!

Aristotle: do you have any siblings that go here?

Jackson: no but I have a little brother and sister my brother goes to the school right down the street from us and my sister goes to the daycare a few blocks from here you?

Aristotle: I have a little sister and that goes to the elementary school by the church 

Jackson: nice so where are you going to lunch?

Aristotle: oh i’m just gonna look around at lunchtime

Jackson: well do you want me and Zachary to show you around?

Aristotle: yes

Jackson: alright follow me

Jackson shows Aristotle the entire first floor and stopped at the cafeteria to get Zachary

Zachary: oh hay Jackson and Aristotle!

Jackson: hay Zachary can you help me show Aristotle around the school? 

Zachary: sure! I’m done eating anyway

Zachary and Jackson bring Aristotle up to the second floor and they all start talking

Zachary: so where did you move from?

Aristotle: I moved from Florida

Jackson: are you from Florida? 

Aristotle: no I’m from Paris I moved a bunch when I was 11 until now 

Jackson: how old are you anyway? 

Aristotle: 16

Zachary: hay Jackson do you want to introduce Aristotle to Charlie? 

Jackson: yea we should

Aristotle: who is that?

Zachary: another one of our friends he’s a robot lizard though

Aristotle: I don’t mind 

Jackson: ok to the computer lab!

Zachary: Jackson we are already here

Jackson: oh

They enter the computer lab and go to a computer in the back of the room and Zachary sits down in the chair

Zachary: can you hear me Charlie? There is someone we want you to met

Charlie:* wakes up* initiating greeting protocol 47: hello Zachary and Jackson who do you want to introduce me to?

Aristotle: hi I’m Aristotle polonoi

Charlie: are you the child of the famous actor dýo polonoi? Who played in many award-winning movies? And a model?

Aristotle: yes that’s me

Charlie: why aren’t you wearing your mask?

Aristotle: I can’t wear it to school because I will get in trouble

Charlie: makes sense

Zachary pov

I almost forgot that they had a mask. The first time I saw them now that I’m getting a better look at them I see that they have a nose ring on the side and they have some eyeshadow and eyeliner and they have long gold earrings high cheek bones and since I am standing next to them they are about a foot taller than me how the f**k is somebody straight out of my dreams exactly my type?! I mean I expected some things being different but they are perfect just perfect

Charlie: Zachary!

Zachary: what?!

Charlie: are you ok? You were staring at Aristotle for like 8 minutes

Zachary: yes i’m fine.

Aristotle: where else are you going to show me?

Jackson: the roof but it’s nothing special though so we can just say here

Aristotle: ok

A half hour later lunch ends Zachary and Aristotle head to science class

Aristotle: so what are we doing?

Zachary: looks like we are cutting open a frog

Aristotle: oh that seems fun

Zachary: what do you mean fun?! that’s gross!

Aristotle: don’t worry I have done this before

Zachary: what?

Aristotle: nothing hand me the scalpel

Zachary pov

I watched Aristotle operate on the frog and I was pretty impressed they knew what they were doing even though they mentioned that t were homeschooled and I’m scared to ask how they learned this but then I went to the bathroom and somehow the brought the damn frog back to life!

Zachary: how the f**k did you do that?!

Aristotle: it’s simple I just rewired the veins, the brain and sewed it back together

Zachary: hmm hot

Aristotle: What?

Zachary: nothing

A few hours later the school day ends

Zachary: hay Aristotle! I was wondering if I could your number? So we can hang out sometime.

Aristotle: yea I would love to!

Aristotle and Zachary exchange numbers and Aristotle walks all the way home

Florence: welcome home

Aristotle: hello father

Florence: how was school?

Aristotle: it was good I made some friends

Florence: really already? What are their names?

Aristotle: Jackson, Charlie and Zachary 

Florence: that’s great i’m glad you’re making friends oh by the way your grandparents and extended family, and your father side of the family are coming over in two months 

Aristotle: why?

Florence: because it’s been decades since we seen them and you and your sister haven’t gotten a chance to meet them yet

Aristotle: ok father

A few hours later Aristotle is reading and gets a call from Zachary

Aristotle:* answers* yes?

Zachary: so I was wondering if you wanted to go to somewhere with me this weekend

Charlie:* in the distance over the phone* I SAID INVITE THEM TO THE PARK DUMB A$$!!!

Zachary: calm down, Charlie I will!! Sorry I meant the park this week or next weekend

Aristotle:* laughs* I would love to I don’t have anything to do this weekend

Zachary: good it’s a date!* hangs up*

Aristotle: a date?

He does, most often than not (he probably gets up earlier too). Since there's like, not a lot of food types in the OFF world other than meat and sugar, it's definitely mostly meat. Unless Zach can find something else.

☕️ Do y'all make coffee or tea? What does he put in his coffee or tea?

He strikes me as a coffee person. Puts whatever he likes in there. Sweet coffee, definitely. Pancake on the other hand is a tea person. Milk tea specifically. Water, milk, honey, and cinnamon. What could go wrong with that?
