When one side of the "conflict" constantly asks for donations to fund their army while the other one does the same to afford basic necessities such as water and food, you know who the oppressor is.

When one side of the "conflict" is still able to post videos from the comfort of their homes while the other one is being displaced from theirs, you know who the oppressor is.

A simple analysis of the hierarchy of needs will clearly show, between these two videos, who the oppressor is.

This is not a "conflict".

It's a crime against humanity.

It's colonization.

100% agreed with all of this, omg!! I don't think I could've put it better than you did in this post. I've never ventured towards fics with Unsub!Spencer because I personally don't see him ever becoming one. Even during his time in Millburn, Spencer made sure that every choice he took was the one with the least chance of jeopardizing his morality. His withstanding integrity, even during a time in his life where survival instinct should take priority, is one of the reasons why I have a hard time believing Spencer could become an Unsub. With that said, if such storyline were to happen, I believe his astute sense of justice would be a driving factor instead of a deterrent, and that's why I personally find writing Unsub!Spencer by making him a "vigilante" is the way that's most in line with his character.

Hi! I'm not sure if you wanted more of a general answer or meant this as a headcanon or gen request, so I'm just going to go purely on vibes and answer this as a question.

Spencer as an Unsub - Thoughts

Disclaimer: Anything negative said here is absolutely not an insult towards any specific writer or fic. I don't really read unsub Reid fics, due to facts I'm about to get into, so I'm really not knowledgeable enough to be throwing shade 💀 This is personal opinion!

I personally would need a lot of convincing to believe in an "unsub" Spencer Reid.

In Criminal Minds, it's clear from very early into the show that Spencer is very empathetic with certain unsubs. The entire team have their own types of cases that they get more personally involved in (Morgan and cases involving child victims, JJ and apparent suicides, Emily and quote unquote battered women cases) but Spencer is the only one whose personal attachment to cases leaves him empathising with the unsub instead of the victim.

He's the only member of the team who could have seen himself committing violent acts the way unsubs do had his life veered down a different path. And, based on Spencer's background and the psychology of the show, he's probably right to be concerned.

He's a white male, at the peak of the show in his mid to late thirties, with a background of abuse and a family history of mental illness. By season four, we know he's highly skilled with a gun, and by season 12/13, we see that he can be pushed to violence when he is at the very edge of his limitations.

And then they make his character so intrinsically moral that you never question him ever again.

To a certain extent, Criminal Minds is about the perpetual cycles of abuse that human kind can inflict upon itself. Many of the unsubs were once victims, some of them perhaps still are. The heroes of the story are characters who have been able to break the cycle.

Spencer is neglected as a child. He has an absent father abandon him, a mother with schizophrenia who does physically beat him when she is having an episode. He is bullied heavily in school for his high IQ and his lack of social skills. But he is shown to deeply care for him mother and empathise with her deeply instead of coming to resent her like many of the unsubs in that situation. He resents his father, for sure, but instead turns that resentment into drive, leading him to "just keep getting more PhDs." And his personal experiences with bullying allow him to empathise with the unsubs that have gone through similar circumstances.

So I don't think canonically, Spencer is ever in danger of becoming an unsub. He deeply cares about the world and the people around him, and whilst he does have a kill count on the show, he either expresses deep remorse at having to oull the trigger, or it is in the best interest for everyone involved.

Basically, all that to say: I think Unsub Spencer Reid in fanfiction has to be written incredibly carefully, or it runs the risk of being very out of character. To be clear, I'm not too bothered about characters being slightly out of character in fics because it happens. I've probably written a lot of stuff where Spencer is OOC, too. And that's fine.

I do kind of draw the line at grabbing random unsub traits from the show and giving them to Spencer for a fic. For example, Spencer would never end up as a sexual sadist. He probably wouldn't be a spree killer, either. Not that anyone wants my writing advice, but if you're writing an unsub Spencer fic, think about his background and the profiles they generally give for the kind of signature/ crimes you're about to give him.

If this was a request, I apologise for the misunderstanding. But here's a little hint at what I might do with a general "unsub Reid" request.

☆ It would most likely take place after the events of Season 12/13.

☆ It's angst or nothing.

☆ The basic plot: Reid's headaches come back after taking a blow in the field. He tries seeking help for it but can't find any relief. On his next case, because of his chronic pain, he makes a mistake that gets his teammate, the reader, shot. The unsub escapes, but the reader falls into a coma. When it looks like reader is not going to pull through, he tracks down the unsub and beats his to death after a brawl. Massive overkill. The reader pulls through that night, and he feels no guilt for getting that monster off the street. But each time the readers health takes a turn, or they require a new surgery, he is compelled to go back out there and track down and kill another serial killer until the reader finally wakes up.

☆ I don't think it'd be very well received because there would be no morally grey smut. This is some tragic angst shit only, lmao.

“Zoroaster” is the Greek form of the Avestan “Zarathustra”, and from what I understand it appears as a semantic substitution concerning the Av. “zara” with the Greek “zōrós”, Av. “uštra” with Greek “astron”.

ζωρός/zōrós means “unmixed” or “pure”.

“astron” means “star”.

‘Zoroaster’ is “the pure star”.

Another translation for zōrós may be “angry” or “furious”. A possible cognate to Old Slavic jȃrъ or “vehement, furious”... There is also a proposal for the root of “zara-” (in Zarathustra’s name) which is Av. *zarant, in this conception it comes to mean “angry, furious”. This matches up a bit more.

Generally there is a lot of ideas surrounding Zarathustra’s name. Ushtra is commonly thought of as having a relation to the rune *uruz. Germanic ūrochso, Pashto ūš, Sanskrit usrá -> either “Camel” or “Auroch/Buffalo”, I think a majority accept the definition of Camel, and there were Bactrian Camels in Central Asia (where Asho Zartosht inhabited), anyways.

A small chamber, lit by the light of day and blown heavily by winds, is where five men met. This was the top of the Archmage’s Spire, and these were the five archmages who made decisions for their empire of magical might. Or, so they would if they still had the power to do so. One man, of an elderly look, wore red robes. Another with the visage of a young man wore blue robes. The black robed figure leaned forwards, two skeletal hands reaching out and having the end of their fingers touch. “You said the spell would destroy our ancient enemy, which granted it did. However you neglected to mention it would also scorch the middle of our continent, wipe away our armies, and cause us this situation. Or are you going to dispute that part of the truth as well?”

The blue robed younger man leaned forward, a look of seriousness on his face “Yes, so how about we skip this whole process and just execute him already? We need to move on from this dilemma so we can get back to trying to stop our borders from shrinking rather rapidly to the northerners don’t we?”

The green robed man shook his head at the young man, sighing with clear discontent as he spoke “We’d be throwing out one of our most powerful spellcasters if we did so. So we��ve decided, from now on you will serve your eternal debt by helping us remove the problem to the north. A commandment spell will be placed on you that will prevent you from doing we didn’t approve, like nearly destroying Holy Zarant again for an example.”

The shackled man growled but hung his head “Fine, use me as a scapegoat for your failings after the spell. We’ll see how nothing fixes itself still, and you come back to blame me again so you can look better.” With a sudden turn, he walked away into a portal opened by the red wizard, the others in the room slowly following after him.

Hi anon! First of all, thank you for considering me for this request in the first place, but I regret to inform you that I must reject this request and that I won't be writing anything for it. I will try to explain myself as concisely as possible, but it's still gonna be a long passage so I hope you bear with me. And I encourage my other readers/followers/just fanfic readers in general to read this as well because it's important.

The reason I decided not to write anything for this request is because I just recently stumbled upon a requested fic, written by another author, with an eerily similar plot to this one. There's a chance I'm making a wrong assumption here, but I did ask a friend of mine to compare the two requests, and she also agrees that they are too similar to just be a coincidence. And honestly, I don't appreciate people sending in their requests to me if they're just gonna copy it (with a few tweaks here and there) and send the same ask to another writer's inbox. It's rude. It's disrespectful. And from this point forward, I will be denying ANY request that comes my way if I saw you had already sent the same (or a very similar one) to another author beforehand.

Maybe some of you think this isn't a big deal, but for me, it is. When you send in the same requests to me and multiple other authors, it makes me feel depreciated as a human being. It makes me feel like you view me only as a robot/machine/an AI with no other purpose than to write you fics after fics after fics. I get it, it's harder to perceive someone as another human being when we're all hiding behind our online personas, but just like you and everyone else, all fanfic writers on this platform and I have our own lives. I'm not a fic-producing machine that you can just exchange for another one when you feel like I'm not posting or writing fast enough to your liking.

I know it can be frustrating. I know that some of you might not be as patient to wait longer for authors to publish your requests, but guess what? It's still not an excuse for you to treat us as less than human beings or like we're disposable! Especially when most fanfic writers are doing this FOR FREE. So it shouldn't matter if it takes fanfic writers a week, a month, or a whole year to write something, we still don't owe you anything because it's not like you're paying for us anyway.

I'm a full-time college student in the middle of writing my thesis. I'm running on barely any sleep as it is and as much as I don't want it, writing requests do have to be put on the back burner once in awhile. This is just something you have to accept as fanfic readers. If you can't handle it, then you can literally just take your request to ChatGPT or something and request it to write it for you. I'm not a fan of AI myself, but this is a much better option than just reducing fanfic writers to a fic-producing machine.

So yeah, with that said, I deeply regret that I must deny this request. I'm sorry if I made you wait too long for it, but again, it's still not enough imo to justify what you did. Even if I weren't as busy as I was, requests are still gonna take some time to write—do you know why? Because I always take time to make sure that the contents I post are up to a certain standard. Sometimes I'd even write multiple versions for a request and post one that I deem the best among the others. That's how much I care about the fics I'm putting out even when I'm doing this for free. Fanfic readers tend to forget that the 2000-word stories you managed to finish in a couple of minutes were born out of labors of love that could take DAYS for the writers to complete. And we do it all sometimes without being fairly compensated as well (have you seen the contrast between comments/reblogs and likes for fics in this platform???? It's APPALLING). So really, asking you to please please please not send the same request to different authors should be considered the bare minimum.

In conclusion, I really hope that you can put a stop to this habit for the sake of everyone involved. I'm not saying you shouldn't be sending requests to different authors at the same time, but just make sure that you give us different plots so each writer is given the chance to show off their creativity in their own unique ways. I apologize again if I seemed too hostile in this post, it wasn't my intention at all. Please don't be discouraged from sending another request in the future because of this. I just hope there was something to be learned from what I wrote here. I hope you have a good day! ❤️
