You know what. I'm thinking I won't be liveblogging Zero one after all.
I like the characters but I'm reminded of just why I originally dropped the show after 30 episodes:
The humagears in the show aren't really treated with respect, especially Naki, Horobi, Jin, Ikazuchi, and Izu.
The first four are victims of the ARK's hacking, but this is either glossed over or acknowledged then brushed aside in the show.
The man who purposely corrupted the ARK, the Zaia CEO Gai Amatsu, is "redeemed" late in the show and practically suffers no consequences for what he did to both the humagears and humans.
Aruto acts somewhat condescending towards humagears and this is never called out. (Referring to Subaru and Ikazuchi as "just like real brothers" even though they are brothers)
Izu is given no character other than being Aruto's yes man/enabler.
It's frustrating. I like the characters and the premise. The way the show treats them is terrible.
I think I'm just gonna liveblog rebels instead.

just watched the first 5 episodes of Prodigy! I cant quite liveblog this one because I am yo-ho-hoing it, so posts about it will be made after I do my nightly viewings
STRONG start to the series. im in love with this crew already and have been since episode 1. this crew has such a different feel than any other Trek show, and I love it. I love them. I love that we're FINALLY getting a Tellarite main character, and a Medusan?? wasn't expecting THAT, holy shit. and the new species they introduced have some sick as hell designs already, cant wait to see what more we get design-wise
so far, Rok-Tahk is my fav. I love her. shes my baby and if anything bad happens to her im killing everyone here and then myself. but really, I love them all. Dal is fun, and arrogant, and reckless, and sooooo different from any other Trek lead. Zero is fucking hilarious, love them, love that they're like "I am beyond corporeal existence and also gender <3" good for them honestly. Jankom im so excited for because again, FINALLY A TELLARITE MAIN. Tellarites have been around since TOS and we barely get ANYTHINGGGGGG with them. and then Gwyn and the Diviner seem SUUUUPER cool, love their designs, I love Gwyn sm already. love that right from the beginning she isnt unconditionally loyal and can see something's going on, but I love that she isnt excused or immediately redeemed- her fighting with Rok-Tahk was so good, Rok-Tahk being so ANGRY with her, but then being the first to extend a helping hand when she needed it?? again, Rok-Tahk is my everything. oh, and Murf. shoutout to Murph. love a little mascot guy. peak design 10/10
seeing Janeway again is of course a thrill. I squealed out loud when she showed up, thats my wife and I love her so MUUUUCH. love that shes a hologram, and just as sassy and defiant as the real Janeway, and that shes got the motherly touch. her presence, and the tone of the first 5 episodes, really made this show feel like Voyager, but also like its own unique thing, and I really really enjoyed it
ive been super excited to start this series and im super excited to keep going with it. im excited to see where this crew goes, what they do, and any familiar faces we might get to see besides Janeway! I know absolutely NOTHING about this series, im going in spoiler-free, so im super stoked to see just where we end up

there's a lot of reasons to hate the way ad-based levels are now the standard starting level for streaming, but beyond just sheer blind hatred for it, it's also fucking annoying because they don't even have the diversity of actual tv ads. at least when you had regular tv channels you got like. usually a decent variety of tv ads coming your way and some local ads thrown in. with streaming services it's literally the same five fucking ads. i've seen the same ad for the same movie 40+ times because it plays at every single ad break. all this is doing is making me so homicidally irritated you're basically guaranteeing i'm never going to go to macy's or watch this stupid fucking horror movie about a pool. they're forcing us to watch ads and then they're making the ad-watching experience - already bad - even fucking worse.

one of the things that has me nonstop thinking about topmew is that they're actually a very unique type of couple in fiction but not in real life. in most fiction, people are always falling in love by accident. they meet, circumstances put them together, they're caught by surprise when they fall in love. but though both top and mew had never been in love before and didn't totally know what to expect, it wasn't a complete shock. they met through a mutual friend, they found each other attractive and interesting, so they decided to date. they fell in love because they went on dates and did romantic things together on purpose. i think neither of them expected to fall so hard, but still, the point of dating is to see if you're compatible and fall in love and maybe build a life together. and that's what they did.
i don't think that makes them boring, i think that makes them relatable! i think that makes them stand out from other fictional couples! you know, people claimed they wanted more realistic BLs, but for some reason when topmew came along, a ship based on a real life gay couple, they didn't like them?

i think one of the coolest things i've learned from this gunter slowburn is that love and sex can be genuine horror as much as it is genuine tender romance.
lean into the ... friction, the taboo, the ""actual"" messy qualities, and it increases everything to a delicious degree. don't reserve the horror or the “ick” factor to one spot. slap it ALL over everywhere.

having sat down and played a couple hours of sable in earnest: I am both surprised and enchanted by what a good puzzle game it is. when I saw "lovely artistic indie game that cites ghibli and breath of the wild as inspirations," I was expecting something similar to spiritfarer, or stray, or abzû and journey: calming and rewarding of exploration, whose ‘puzzles’ are more in getting physically to the solutions than they are in figuring out what the solutions actually are. the first ship I explored, which gave me a climbers’ badge, did nothing to dissuade that, but the second took me a solid and very rewarding forty minutes of "wait, I have to move that first so that this doesn't just slide off the platform...." that I enjoyed immensely.
—which turned into less of a liveblog post and more of an entire review, whoops! in any case, it's a charming game that I'm glad I had the whim to try, the titular sable has a lot of personality and the platforming puzzles are just difficult enough to be rewarding without being overly frustrating (I'm looking at you, exile)
