If James is straight, then he takes being called gay as a compliment of the highest degree. He knows the gays run Hollywood. He admires the culture. He thinks gay people are so rad. Gay bars are way more fun than straight ones. He fully embraces queer culture and is completely comfortable with people seeing him as a "gay icon." So, yeah, when he's asked if he's gay or finds magazine articles theorizing, he is not offended in the slightest.

BUT, if he is gay, he is has no fucking idea. It's not that he is repressing it. He just never he thought of it as an option. Until one day he casually drops during a guys night "idk why movies make kissing seem so magical. It doesn't really feel like anything." And everyone's like "James. What?" He's sees their confused faces and is like "What? What did I say wrong?" They explain to him that kissing actually feels great and they have no idea why he kisses so many girls if it's like kissing a wall to him. He goes, "cause everyone does it? I dunno."
