OMG, same! I've often thought about this, because the two have a very different character, but they still have a lot in common:
-both are hot older ladies
-both are incredibly strong and powerful
-both lost their power in some way
-both tried to put up walls and act like they don't care, but slowly warmed up to the people they cared about
-both put their lives on the line, for their loved ones
-both were massively betrayed and hurt by their sister
-both reconciled with said sister after a good 30 years
-both have a good amount of mommy and daddy issues
-both have an ex who broke up with them, years before the start of the series, with whom they also reconcile eventually
how did my hyperfiation jump from Lin Beifong to Edalyn Clawthorne in a matter of 4 month….. and could someone explain how those two are connected cause they most obviously are.. ahh my taste in damaged women

My HC about the Gaang 2.0 and what grades they had in school:
Lin: She has always worked hard to be successful, and most of the time it paid off. She always brought her homework on time and always started studying for a test straight away, often for hours, days and weeks. School wasn't easy for her, but thanks to her hard work, her grades were very good. If she ever got a bad grade, she was devastated, because although she always gave 100%, it was still not enough. I imagine her biggest issue was giving presentations in front of the class.
Tenzin: He especially likes theoretical subjects, where he just has to study to get good grades. Subjects like art, music or sports were therefore his most difficult. He's best at memorizing, as this is how he understands it best, but most of his knowledge, he gets by simply listening carefully to class. Unfortunately, he has the habit of always doing the work of the others in group projects and is therefore also often taken advantage of, when it comes to copying his homework.
Kya: She goes with the flow and has a mixed grade point average. She can put an incredible amount of effort into a subject, but only if she's really interested. Otherwise she likes to fall asleep from boredom in class, especially in maths. Nevertheless, she's usually a great member in group projects, as she's interested in getting involved and maybe also helping weaker students. In addition, she has no problem with cheating or copying in tests, in return she then copies from other students, in her worse subjects.
Bumi: He's the definition of a class clown. He's not very interested in school and enjoys distracting others and joking around, which often gets him into trouble. He's no less intelligent than the others, only that it's difficult for him to concentrate on very dry subjects and his grades are also very dependent on the teacher. However, if there's a topic that really interests him, he's fire and surprises his teachers every now and then.
Suyin: She's one of those people, who never study but still get good grades (which annoys Lin to hell). The only thing that prevents her is her attitude, as she likes to skip classes and therefore gets unnecessarily bad grades. She's a fast learner and therefore often under-challenged and bored in class and also never does her homework. But sometimes she also overestimates her abilities, does not study for a test and then gets a bad grade because she underestimated the subject. She doesn't mind bad grades, although with more effort she could easily be a straight A student.
Izumi: She's an absolute nerd. She enjoys going to school and also enjoys studying. In addition, she's a straight A student and if she gets something worse, she's almost close to tears, whereupon her classmates just roll their eyes. She has an urge for perfection that sometimes gets in her way, because she revises projects 10 more times or completely starts over. She has far too high expectations of herself and should really take a break every now and then.

Lin, Tenzin, Kya and Bumi at Hexside

Drawing by me, background from Toh I've only just seen the new episodes from season 2 of Toh and suddenly the idea for this pic came to me. xD (I'm not a artist, but I still hope you like it.) Under the cut I explain, how I came to the decision for the individual tracks. :)
Lin - Construction Mainly because it's earth based and requires strength. Difficult to say if Lin would do this for the rest of her life, as she is very ambitious. Alternatively, I could also imagine her in Plant. Tenzin - Beast Keeping I struggled a little with this decision, but I think this track suits him best. I can imagine that Tenzin has a natural talent for animals. Kya - Healing Ok, that one's obvious. I think she would like it, but she would also do it, because her mother is a talented healer. Nevertheless, I can also imagine Kya really well in Oracle. Bumi - Bard I think that suits him so well, because he just has a talent for music. I think it was his first choice and he has never regretted that decision. You can also share your thoughts about this. I would love to hear them. <3

Why Lin hates the cold
HC by @dont-blame-it-on-the-kids ... I hope you like my little fic, based on your hc, of why Lin hates the cold. :)
Lin, Kya and Bumi were engrossed in an intense snowball fight against each other, that no one seemed to be winning yet, but all three were already soaked to their underwear. It was late afternoon and the sun was slowly beginning to set, as Katara watched the children from afar. It was Kya's ninth birthday. Her father and Tenzin have already announced that they will not make it in time, which is why Katara had suggested, that Kya could spend her birthday in the south by her grandfather.
Kya was sad and disappointed at first, but slowly seemed to forget her grief, as she romped around in the snow with her brother and Lin. Lin was on the defensive, trying to dodge the attacks of Kya and Bumi, who seem to have teamed up against her. When Lin was out of reach of the two, they focused on each other again. Lin stopped for a moment to take a breath, when she suddenly heard a loud crack. She snapped her head back and forth, but before she understood what was happening, the ice broke under her feet.
"Ahhhh!", Lin screamed, but the sound was quickly suppressed, when her lips touched the icy cold water. She kicked and tried with all her might to keep her head above the water, while her limbs were already turning a shade of blue. Her protest didn't last long, the cold, her heavy, soaked clothes and the fact that she couldn't swim, just made her sink like a stone into the water. She couldn't feel her limbs anymore, they were numb. Her lungs filled with water more and more, which burned hot, despite the cold.
In the distance she heard the others screaming, but could hardly register it. It hurts, Lin thought. It hurts so bad. Is this how it feels to die? She has never been so scared in her life, but at the same time she felt so helpless. She looked up, she could see the fading light from the hole she had fallen into. But it was too exhausting to keep her eyes open. So she closed her eyes and that was when the pain stopped. Her last thought before the darkness could pull her into its snares was, please, I don't want to die.
*
Lin slowly opened her eyes, but at the bright sunlight she immediately closed them again. But it was enough to get the attention of the others. Kya hugged her so tightly that for a moment, Lin had the feeling she couldn't breathe anymore. She wriggled violently to break free from the embrace, her breathing coming in short gasps. Kya let go immediately and Katara hurried to her side.
"Lin, it's ok! You're safe!", she said gently, as she put her hand on Lin's shoulder. Lin stared at her, eyes wide. It was difficult for her to breathe properly, and she was so cold, even though she was wrapped in several thick blankets. Lin's memories, of what had happened, were slowly coming back. She started crying and her breathing got worse. Katara, Kya and Bumi also began to cry, but Katara wiped her tears away and began to gently stroke Lin's back to calm her down.
The four spent a long time calming and comforting each other. Katara explained to Lin that she would have to stay in bed for a few more days to recover and that she had informed her mother, who was already on her way to the South Pole. Lin was very quiet and reserved for the next few days. Katara was worried, but she didn't want to push the poor girl out of her comfort zone.
A few days later, after an intense healing session, Lin opened up. She told Katara that she was so scared of dying, how the cold had made her whole body numb, how painful it was, when her lungs filled with water and that she felt awful for ruining Kya's birthday. Katara couldn't help the tears that came out of her eyes, as she listened to the five-year-old, about how scared and panicked she was, when she thought she was going to die. And frankly, Katara herself wasn't sure, if Lin would survive, after she rescued her out of the water. But she wasn't going to tell her that.
She hugged her deeply, but not too tightly, repeating over and over that everything would be fine, that she was safe now, and that it will be many years, before she leaves this world. It had at least calmed her down a little. When Katara noticed her insecurity, she also assured her that she hadn't ruined Kya's birthday and that her daughter was just happy that Lin was alright. And even though she was still cold and scared, she gave a small smile at that.
