Schools where I live are legally required to be acessible and accomadate everyone. I go to school with not only a student in a wheelchair but also a teacher in a wheelchair. The school has a tradition of raising money for charity every year that started to raise money to make the school more accessible because a student had recently started needing to use a wheelchair full time.
The one and only ramp into the school has a gap between the ramp and the platform to the stairs. The button to open that door doesn't work and there isn't a button to call the office at that entrance. There's a hallway that not only has five classes down it but is also has the entrance you need to take for your final exams and the only way into this hallway is stairs... and that girl the charity was started for had classes down that hall....
Re people on foot thinking wheelchair access is guaranteed because the law guarantees it, I've had multiple access issues at medical facilities and thats the last place you'd expect to have no idea what to do with a wheelchair. AND YET...

I originally only saw the second image so I assumed that it was an unironic image and that "Evil Science Center" was referring to scientology, before realizing it's more probable to be about atheism to than be pleasantly surprised that none of the above assumptions were even close to correct
Being presented these two choices right next to each other makes me feel like I'm a character in a Jack Chick Tract or something.

Not only can ms be short for microsoft it can also be short for milliseconds, Mississippi, Montserrat, and Malay, AND mr can be short for Mauritania and Marathi so fuck it Mg. rocks
since mrs, ms, and mr are all descended from the latin word magister, i propose the gender neutral version should be mg, short for "mage"

What is wrong with gender socialization theory?
the problem is that it is used to reinforce social essentialism in a way that reinforces ideas of sexgender assignment that are either untrue or misleading. people talk a lot about bio-essentialism on here, but not so much about social essentialism. to put it simply "Social essentialism entails the belief that certain social categories (e.g., gender, race) mark fundamentally distinct kinds of people". or, a woman is a different kind of a person than a man, solely or in-part because they received fundamentally different social environments in their upbringing
this simplifies a whole heap of factors, often without careful examination of what those factors are, or why they might matter. a lot that is ascribed to "female socialisation", for example, is actually a rational fawn response to the experience of marginalisation. what this looks like will be shaped by other intersecting identities and experiences. the demands placed on someone who is socially perceived/treated as a woman are contingent on so many factors that it becomes obfuscating to talk about "female socialised people" as if that is one coherent group or experience
the other problem is that it has become TERFs' favourite way of separating cis women from trans women (i.e. referring to them as "male socialised individuals"). this ignores several fundamental components of how a trans woman's upbringing may typically look quite different from that of a cis man

like it's fucking bonkers reading a book on autism where the author has to be like "if you don't tend to relate to how autism is described, try reading into female autism. even if you're a man". what use does any of this serve at this point

just saw someone say "crazy how there's no landback movement in Australia". yeah that would be crazy. good thing it isn't true! you can find this out by googling "landback australia". or by looking at the following:
there is actually a pretty significant Indigenous land rights movement here in Australia. the language of "landback" is not always used because it was pretty thoroughly demonised by the Howard government (see: "they're going to steal your backyard"). for more on land rights:
these are both starting points rather than completely comprehensive guides or anything. but maybe do even five seconds of googling before making assertions about what political movements do and don't exist

Suzanne Collin’s just said fuck you to everyone who’s ever critiqued the Hunger Games as being a “teen girl saves the day” story. She said oh, Mockingjay didn’t make it clear enough? Here’s a book about how people have been rebelling for decades only to have their efforts suppressed and propagandized. Rebellion takes time and it takes failure and Katniss may have been the spark that ignited the wildfire but she did so standing atop the doused flames of everyone who came before her.

I think one of the most damaging ideologies towards children is the conviction that having children isn’t a calling but a moral obligation.

hello world!!!
I want to talk to you about swallowing (not in a sexual light)
swallowing is supposed to be:
efortless
automatic
painless
and should happen without conscious thought
choking is supposed to be infrequent
if that does not sound like your swallowing experience you are probably part of the 5-15% of the population that has dysphagia. if your swallowing is bothering you then you can (and should) bring up your concerns to a doctor
swallowing is not supposed to be difficult!
#Swallowing is meant to be automatic????#Also THERE'S A CORRECT POSTURE FOR YOUR TONGUE TO HAVE????#dysphagia#disability#disabled#actually disabled#invisible disability#chronic illness#rebloog#text post#long post#queued post
