As requested here's the video of how to do dips. An excellent way to develop the muscles that the pull-up doesn't. Your chest, shoulders, triceps, and again it targets your core which is essential. Pull-ups - one of the harder exercises to do for boxing. I'll be releasing a video later demonstrating this but this exercise is pretty self explanatory. You want to grip with your palm facing away from you and pull yourself up. Now don't worry too much about getting your head over the bar, it's the act of pulling your body up that's important. This exercise is crucial for boxers because it's so important to get control of your bodyweight. Fighting backwards. An important part yet overlooked aspect of boxing. Everyone always discusses the eye-catching offensive work but the beauty in boxing comes from the defensive work. The easiest combination when fighting backwards is to push backwards from your jab. It is more of a push than a punch. Then once you have stepped back, you lever your momentum forward into your cross. Sit-ups. I have received requests on good exercises to do for boxing conditioning. One of the main ones is sit-ups. You want to go down slowly on the negative portion of the sit-up and EXPLODE upwards. This activates the fast twitch fibres in your abdominal muscles. Ideally I would recommend just using your bodyweight however if you have "mastered" this then move into decline sit-ups as well as perhaps adding a weight into it. Push ups for boxing. I get people saying to me that when a lot of boxers lift or do calisthenics that they are doing it "wrong". There are different ways to develop fitness. If you want to build as much muscle mass as possible, lift slowly, contract your muscles and have time under tension. If you want to build power then you need to train differently. Use speed and momentum because that's what you'll be using in a fight. A very simple yet effective combination. Jab to your opponent's head. It doesn't need to be powerful, just flick it at their head to raise their hands. Quickly react with a left hook to the body. You want to really try and sit on this hook and let it rip. I've been having a discussion with someone who keeps telling me to post long combinations (15 or so punches). Which I think is good on the pads for conditioning and coordination but if you were to actually throw a 15 punch combination in a fight when your opponent isn't hurt... they're gonna make you pay. The whole point when throwing a combination is to land a flurry of shots and then quickly get out or cover up. If you're there for too long throwing shots they'll exploit that.
