TTRPG is now closed and a new Teen Titans Roleplay is in the making

This is a bittersweet announcement to make, and a decision that has taken months of thought.

As the title states, Teen Titans RPG is officially closing after 3, almost 4 long years. This is due to numerous reasons, among them the declining activity and the seemingly waning interest of members. That being said, there is no specific member or members that brought this about, the blame is on the group as a whole, including myself. 

Another reason is due to the fact that this group was designed poorly at the start, as it had no real structure. As some know, I was not the founder of TTRPG, nor was I one of the original moderators. After the first administrator vanished and her assisting moderator took over, I became a temporary moderator. After that admin disappeared as well, I became the admin and decided that I was going to whip the group into shape by tweaking/adding rules that really should have been there in the first place.

I tried very hard to unite the group when I took on the role of admin, as most members at that time acted as independent roleplayers that occasionally interacted. We attempted to start two different group-wide plots, but they failed, partially because we were lacking main characters. A third attempt, the Stranded plot, began last year when we suddenly had a flux of new members and a full cast. It seemed to be going well at first, but once again there were major bumps in the road, which now has led to the decision to close the group. So despite everything, in the years that I have been running this RPG, I have ultimately failed to accomplish my dream of making TTRPG into the best it could be. And for that, I really do apologize.

Originally, I thought of rebooting TTRPG, but I realized changing the group's format was unfair to the members that have been used to how this group has been for so long. Then I planned on launching a new Teen Titans Roleplay that would run separately, at the same time as TTRPG. That was the plan, up until a few days ago when I realized that TTRPG is in shambles and really cannot continue. I apologize for not consulting my fellow moderators on this decision, but I feel as if it would be unfair to abandon them (and everyone else as well) just as the other admins have in the past.

The new Teen Titans Roleplay that will be starting on December 12th is titled Titans New Age, and is located here. Its plot currently is similar to the basic TTRPG one, but the format will be a little bit different as well as more structured. It will also be a closed group. If anyone from TTRPG (or anyone that has previously been a part of TTRPG) is interested, they may apply for any character that is not italicized on the character list, ahead of the opening date. If you have no desire to join the new group, you may of course continue your blogs and threads as independent roleplayers. 

In conclusion, I want to thank each and every member, past and present, that has been a part of TTRPG. Thank you for being my roleplaying partners, thank you for helping me improve my writing abilities, thank you for letting me develop my leadership skills... I want to thank everyone for all that, but most importantly I want to thank you all for being my friends. Whether we talk everyday about stupid things or whether we only talk about RP stuff, I want everyone to know that I've always considered each and every member of this group a friend. Thanks for putting up with me and thank you for being there when I needed you. It's been such an amazing 3 years, and I love you all.

Character’s name: Robin (Richard John Grayson). Character history and bio:

Superhero, villain, undecided, or other (please explain): Non-powered superhero.  Age: 15.

Physical characteristics: Perpetually masked. Carefully-styled gelled hair which pops back into utterly uncool neatness if left unattended for too long. A little below average height for his age; very fit and slender with faded scars scattered here and there from training mishaps and missions which took a turn for the ugly.

Personality traits: Serious and reserved, Robin only truly blossoms into himself when it’s time to be the leader. He obsesses over perfection and uniformity, the tiny little details of things regular people simply brush over, often working himself to and beyond the point of exhaustion when something calls for his undivided attention. Given the right circumstances Robin is capable of letting loose and having fun. This is usually only in the company of his friends, however, and once alone Robin will frequently return to his borderline neurotic activities.

Special abilities: Complex acrobatics, advanced hand-to-hand combat skills, weapons training and CIA-level hacking knowledge. Robin has also been trained gruellingly to develop excellent detective skills, and the contents of his belt consist of both weapons and items to help with this pursuit.

History: Until he was eight years old, Richard Grayson was the third performer in the acclaimed Haley’s Circus troupe The Flying Graysons - a family of acrobats infamous for winning the hearts of audiences across the world. Gangsters targeted the circus in Gotham City to extort “protection” money, however, sabotaging the Flying Graysons’ trapeze wires with acid as incentive - and in the ensuing horrifying fall taking the lives of both parents, Gotham City became Dick Grayson’s last stop. Taken under Batman’s wing in the hunt for justice for his parents; Dick took on the mantle of Robin to bring the criminals what they deserved - and, driven by his similarity to Dick and empathy for him, Gothamite billionaire Bruce Wayne decided to adopt the boy too. Fast forward several years, and Batman and Robin haven’t been getting along so well these days. Robin is growing up and getting rebellious, wanting more freedom and autonomy his partner isn’t willing to give, and is feeling the sidekick label more than ever - so he’s broken away to forge his own path in a city far away from Gotham.  Jump City. Place of residence: Jump City/Titans Tower; occasionally Gotham City’s Wayne Manor - even if Robin isn’t working in Gotham any more, it’s still Dick Grayson’s home.

Other:  Robin’s borderline neuroticism is directly inherited from his mentor. In the past, Robin had been the lighter, far more happy-go-lucky side of the Gotham crimefighting duo. However, as the leader of the Teen Titans and without someone else to weather the darker waters for him, Robin is sinking deeper and deeper into the brooding obsessiveness he’d always tried to alleviate from his mentor before.

Robin spoke to no one when Jason died. He’d always resented the boy a little bit for taking his place in Gotham so easily, but that only served to fuel the crippling blow felt by the entire Bat-family with the loss of the second Robin. It’s another reason Dick doesn’t ever want to operate in Gotham again - it’s no place for a Robin any more.

Raven can periodically heal new scars and injuries from fights, but Robin has every blemish on his skin mapped out and declines to let her even attempt to fade any scars from his stint in Gotham City. One scar in particular he leaves perfectly untouched - one on his knee that his mother kissed better when he was a child. 

Dick knows several languages, both from his training as Robin and from his time in the travelling circus. He himself is Romany on his mother’s side, with tan skin but bright blue eyes.

His small and slender stature is ideal for acrobatics, but not so useful for hand-to-hand combat. Robin puts more effort into this than anything else and practices combat as often as he can.

Robin’s best friends are Wonder Girl, Speedy, Aqualad and Kid Flash - the only heroes who know his name and who have seen him without his mask.

Crushes on redheads pretty hard, for some reason.

In-character writing sample: 

The phone picks up on the second ring. It’s quick for most people, but an agonising wait for Robin as he sits down heavily at his desk, the hand which isn’t holding his own cell phone plastered heavily to his face over his eyes.

Pressing on his eyeballs with the ball of his palm fends off a headache very well. He’d figured that out very early on in the hero business.

"Dick?"

"Donna." He responds, almost like he’s the one surprised by the call, but everyone who knows Robin knows by now that surprised is often the closest he can sound to pleased. “Can you talk?”

"Sure, what’s up?"

"No, I mean—" He pauses, frowning at a piece of paper slightly out of place in the neat chaos of his desk, taking a moment to nudge it back into place in its pile before continuing. Unmasked blue eyes ache with the desk light, so Robin gets to his feet to retreat from it and and flops on the bed instead - it’s already late anyway. "I mean, can you talk? Just talk. About anything.”

There’s a little tut of recognition from the other end of the line, and Robin knows that it means Wonder Girl recognises what this is. It’s the rare I’m stressed out of my mind, please talk me down from the ceiling call; the elusive time where Robin actually reaches out of his shell for someone - but only, usually, very specific someones.

"Well," She begins, and Robin turns on his side with the phone tucked under his ear as he listens. “Gosh, Dick, I found the cutest dress at the mall the other day with blue stars - you know, just the kind I love! I was thinking of getting some shoes to match because it’s a little darker than usual but I just couldn’t pass it up - but, you know, allowance. I’ve gotta save up; bad quality stuff is cheaper but it never, ever lasts! What if I have to fight in shoes that might fall apart if I kick something too hard?”

She can hear the little sigh as Robin relaxes into just being talked to, mindless chatter from a best friend that Wonder Girl knows he’s not really listening to, but she’s not really listening to herself either. She knows it does matter that it’s her, though - Robin doesn’t reach out very often (and certainly not to his team; to explain all the reasons behind needing that safety net of friends to talk mindlessly to would take far too long to explain to people who didn’t already know), and the fact that this time it’s Donna he wanted means a lot to her. 

"…And I was watching Project Airport Runway last night, too, and wow, none of those girls’ dresses stood up to the air currents from the planes! I keep trying to get Cassie to watch with me; she says it’s stupid but I’ve seen her reading Girl Frenzy magazine, I know what she’s into! And anyway…"

Robin smiles into his shoulder, nestling a little more comfortably into the pillow under his head as he listens to his best friend chatter away. He needed this, to hear things going on which weren’t just about work and crime and the Teen Titans - to be reminded that there is another life outside “Robin” waiting for him. 

God, he loves Donna - and she’s rattling on about makeup and the latest fashionable hairstyles now in a way that’s so mind-numbing all he can do is let out a soft laugh. By the slight pause and then the little raise in pitch of Donna’s voice, he knows she’s heard and likes it.

Dick really doesn’t know what he’d do without his friends.

New Stranded thread post order

IMPORTANT- New Stranded thread for immediately active members

Since many members are on hiatus and their Stranded threads halted, we are going to be doing a thread that time-skips over the previous thread set with the members that are immediately active.

The very basic premise of the thread is that caves were discovered by one of the scouting groups and some of the characters decide to go exploring. We will start with this and go on from there.

Please LIKE this thread with your character's blog if you feel like you can actively take on this additional thread. Those who like this post in the next 48 hours will be added to the finalized posting order that will be uploaded.

At our next meeting, we will be discussing having a sort of Stranded side-thread for the members that are readily available. Many of our members are on hiatuses and their threads are on hold, so this is a great way to keep the plot rolling. Feel free to bring any ideas to next week's meeting!

This is a long post, but please read through it.

Hey guys, I know we've been really lenient about our members' activity lately. This is partially because I myself have been preoccupied with various things and neglected to do some of my administrative duties. So yes, I understand having a busy life that doesn't revolve around roleplaying a cartoon.

However, we are a group and when someone (or many someones) doesn't pull their weight, the whole group suffers. What does pulling your weight or being active mean? In the past, when many of us were younger and had more time to spare, this meant logging on every day and spending hours posting replies to dozens of threads to anybody & everybody.

That definition of 'activity' is simply not feasible anymore for most. In addition, the focus of the group has shifted: we finally have a group plot that is designed to bring our scattered members and their characters together. Let me say that again: our ultimate goal is interaction within the whole group.

Some still place their priority on threads with nonmembers, rather than the group plot threads we have been desperately been trying to advance. We are an open group (something quite rare actually), but if you are taking advantage of this by making no effort to interact with our members (especially the group plot threads), you may want to consider that TTRPG is not for you and take up independent roleplaying instead. 

So, what does being active in this group mean now? At the very least it means logging on once a week (or even every two weeks if you absolutely need to) and replying to your current group plot thread. Those replies don't even have to be immensely long.

That's it. That's all we're asking for, because we know you have a life. We know some of you started college, or have a new job, or are just plain busy, and we're not going to penalize you for that. If you can, try to interact more with your fellow members. If not, it's okay. 

After 2-3 weeks of inactiveness, you will be sent a warning. If you do not respond to a moderator within a week from the warning and up your activity after replying to the mod in the following week, your character may be removed from the group. 

Everyone's "inactivity meter" is reset as of now and we will reminding people of what they owe, but the mods will be doing activity checks when those 2-3 weeks pass.

Note: Adjustments to these rules will be made if you're on a hiatus.

Character’s name: Jericho (Joseph Wilson). Character history and bio: (by the DCU/OC guidelines since he was such an undeveloped character)

Superhero, villain, undecided, or other (please explain): Superhero; first drafted into the Titans in the fight against the Brotherhood but remaining on as a teammate after discovering the ease of using his powers for good. Age: 15.

Physical characteristics: Small and slender with a shock of fluffy blond hair and unhumanly green eyes. A thick scar bleaches the skin across his throat. 

Personality traits: Quiet, shy and sensitive. Unlike his comic book counterpart, Jericho is much younger and less openly trusting of people he doesn’t know. Usually he will find one teammate in particular to stay close to.

Special abilities: Astral projection and neurological exchange. He can access any adversary’s psyche, seize control of their bodies, and - providing the victim is unconscious - utilise their voice. He can’t speak in his own words, however, only theirs (e.g. when possessing Starfire, he will gain her delicate speech patterns and misunderstanding of Earth slang). He can also sift through memories for specific knowledge, and reside silently inside another person without possessing them. The latter is an excellent technique for getting around as a secret weapon or urgent backup.

History: Born and raised for several years in New York, the son of ex-military soldiers, Jericho’s peaceful family was turned upside down when a kidnap-and-blackmail attempt was launched on his family. His father’s identity as an infamous mercenary was dragged into the open and, bargaining on his speed to get his youngest son away from a knife to his throat, Slade sorely misjudged his abilities. Rendered incapable of speech but still alive, Jericho’s mother immediately divorced her husband and hid her son in the Tibetan mountains; erasing all school, medical and dental records to leave Slade no way to track him down. Jericho remained there until the Titans found him - Robin first, a while before the explosion of the Brotherhood of Evil’s final plans - only leaving when he was urgently needed to be a hero. Place of residence: Varying between Jump City, New York, the Tibetan mountains and the United Kingdom (where, according to the Teen Titans Go! comics, he is on a Titans branch team with Argent and Red Star).

Other:  Jericho still has infrequent nightmares of the time his throat was cut, part of the reason why he strives to make every part of the waking day pleasant. 

He is vegetarian, both for health and personal preference - because he definitely wasn’t about to go catching animals in the mountains. He has a deep love of art as stress release, often painting or sketching or playing the guitar to mellow out.  Is able to communicate with telepaths via thought links since those require no vocal cords - and, to an extend, empaths when his emotions are heightened enough. The latter communication is usually one way.  Is a talented dancer and musician, and used to sing beautifully before he lost his voice.

In-character writing sample: 

The first thing Jericho does when he wakes up is to run to the mountain stream and dunk his head right in. 

He holds it for a few moments before withdrawing with a sharp gasp, the thin mountain air stinging his lungs in several gulps. The plunge into icy water is enough to shock him awake, to banish all remnants of sleep from his mind, and when he sits up again the silent boy is fully alert.

It was that dream again, the one that makes his neck itch, the reason he’s up on this mountain in the first place. Jericho hates to think about it - and hate is a strong word for him. There’s nothing he hates in the world, no one living or dead. Just that dream. It’s only a memory, nothing that can hurt him, but dreams enhance reality to the point of insanity. That’s why he has to wake up so fast - because a faceful of freezing water is far better than ten minutes more of half-awake terror. 

Jericho runs his hands over his face, wiping away the trickles of water even though his hair is still drenched and plastered around his temples. It’s still very early, the sunlight barely blushing the sky above the distant mountains, but he’s up now. There’s no point going back to sleep. He needs to dry off and warm up, and perhaps if he makes something warm to drink that will pass the time until it’s light enough to navigate the mountain paths with ease again. He still has cocoa powder and sugar; he doesn’t have to make the trek down to one of the valley towns yet.

The thin air isn’t making his lungs ache so much any more - really, if there’s one thing he likes about cities it’s that the air is much richer in oxygen - and Jericho gets to his feet to return to camp along the paths paved with honey-coloured flowers. It’s been a restless night, but that’s all the more reason to make the daytime pleasant.

Members- Update on the Stranded Plot

After some time, Cyborg was at last reunited with his battery pack and thus revived. He (and those with him) swiftly deduced that the surest way to determine if others were on the island would be to use the canon in his arm as a sort of flare. Upon doing so, the various groups that were dispersed on the isle were alerted that the island was not deserted, and everyone quickly agreed that traveling to the source would be the wisest.

It was amazing; in the following hour each team (and a few stragglers) filed in one after another to the spot where Cyborg had shot the flare. Finally everyone was in one central location and it seemed that all those that were together prior to their island arrivals were present now.

It was a relief to most that the majority of them were [honorary] members of the Teen Titans and had met each other previously, but there were a select few that were either associated with the Titans in a negative way or not at all. Still, it was decided that it would be to the benefit of all if everyone worked together to try to get off the island.

Also determined (after a few arguments between the ‘leaders’) was that they should first focus on basic survival and that they were to do so in groups chosen by drawing lots. After such, everyone divided into the groups that were established and set off to complete their tasks.
