So I do debate, and I enjoy it thoroughly, but one thing I’ve noticed is the prevalence and severity of AI usage from other students.

During one of the first tournament, there was a guy that used Snapchat AI to write all of his speeches on the day of the tournament— these speeches he failed to proofread, and which lacked any real argument. He took to the front of the room and he summarized the topic while making no points…

And he placed. Granted, it was a low placement— but he placed, while several people who truly wrote their speeches and tried did not.

The amount of disgust I felt was immeasurable. He didn’t even bother to use chat-GPT, no, he used Snapchat AI and placed. So, considering the issue of generative AI, my stance will always be that the usage of it as a substitute for real human effort and intelligence is utterly unforgivable. In a world where any person can outrank another while putting no care into their actions, effort will become obsolete— and when this technology fails, people will not want to return to it.

I believe firmly that this idea of effort becoming obsolete explains the prominence of AI generated art, as well. Why would you pay an artist— who has poured endless hours, their whole life into their craft— a hundred dollars for a painting when you could have nearly any image generating AI produce one of a similar (or superior) appeal? The only issue with AI image generation from a consumer’s perspective is the incorrect details often generated, but that seems to be improving every day.

I don’t think I could ever justify using AI image or word generation for means of self-benefit.

honest to LORD FUCKING JESUS, i truly think the Iron Man trilogy and the Captain America trilogy were the best trilogies out there, and there’s not one movie that i disliked as much as i hated the first thor movie.

The Iron Man trilogy? Perfect. No notes. Every single movie was beautifully written, the plots were engaging and entertaining, the character growth?? UNMATCHED. The costumes, the sets, whatever was CGI’d, the interactions between characters. It was all absolutely perfect and i could not have imagined a better trilogy to begin the mcu (release-date-wise) off with. truly and completely perfect.

The Captain America trilogy? Also perfect. I have notes on Civil War ofc, but even then I don’t dislike the movie for reasons that matter. Civil War is a GOOD movie, even if it’s not a favorite. the entire trilogy left me wanting more, the plot was engaging and unbelievable to watch and every second that passed i didn’t really know what was happening until it happened. The first one was a PERFECT origin story, and i couldn’t not ask for more. The second one was an amazing continuation and a perfect way to reintroduce Hydra to the mcu. Bucky’s introduction was engaging and thrilling while also being obvious and entertaining. i loved it.

nothing could match these two (except the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. sobbed. so good.) trilogies, and i miss them dearly.
