My current Deltarune theory on Ralsei's identity (Chapters 3 and 4 spoilers).
I think the leading theory on Ralsei's identity so far has been the horns. We know Kris, when they were younger, used to wear a pair of horns to fit in with the other monsters. Ralsei has distinctive red horns, and in the latest chapters seems to see himself as disposable (which would add up as Kris "growing out" of using the horns).
But as far as I can tell, we don't know if Kris is actually carrying the horns in the Light World (allowing Ralsei to appear).
What we do consistently see Kris carry in the Light World is their knife. I am considering the idea that Ralsei is Kris's knife.
Exhibit A: Who's where
Ralsei is in every Dark World so far, travelling with the party. As stated before, we know that Kris consistently has their knife on them.
The knife is also unaccounted for in the Dark World itself. Kris's weapon in the Dark World is actually a pencil. The knife is nowhere to be found. That's a pretty significant object to be missing.
Exhibit B: Ralsei and the fountain
Ralsei is very unique for a Darkner. For one, he does not turn to stone outside of his Dark World, like many other Darkners do. He is also directly connected to the prophecy, and knows quite a lot about it.
If Ralsei is the knife, this could explain quite a lot. This object has a unique connection to the Dark World, being that it opens the fountains (At least in Chapters 3 and 4b, its unconfirmed how the others were opened).
The object that created the Dark World would certainly belong everywhere. Ralsei also says in Chapter 3 that he knows the "rules" of this world. The object partially responsible for creating the world would make sense to have that knowledge.
Exhibit C: Personality
I mentioned that Ralsei's personality fit with the horns and the idea of "outgrowing" them. However there is another facet to Ralsei's personality that I think also fits the knife well.
He is very, very afraid to hurt people. Not physically as much, but he is very afraid to hurt people emotionally. A knife can cut you, after all.
Ralsei's also all about healing, which is definitely contradictory for a knife, but I could see it be an intentional contradiction. In fact, we never Kris hurt anybody with their knife. Their only damage is indirect (slashing tires, eating a whole pie).
Exhibit D: Other small notes
Towards the end of Chapter 4, after Susie shatters the final prophecy, they hold Ralsei's face and tell them not to worry. Ralsei's sprite has blood on it. Susie's blood, no less. Shit, are we gonna hurt Susie in the Light World, and get her blood on Ralsei?
Ralsei's weapon is a Ragger, a combination between a rag and a dagger, which is sort of a knife?
Anyway I think Ralsei as the horns is a very solid theory that I am absolutely not discounting. But, if that's the case....
Where's the knife?

astrophysics is so cool. we have these tiny dots in the sky and wondered what they are. and then we found out they are too far away to reach. ever.
and yet, though its nothing but a dot in a sky, we studied it.
and from these unreachable stars that we see as nothing more than a blip, we learned about the first seconds of time.
#melon rambles#physics#astrophysics#someone called astrophysicists “humble collectors of light” and i havent stopped thinking about it#seriously think about how little we actually measure and how much we derive from that

temple design submisson for @twiniverse
it ended up being a little crowded, and in fact i forgot a set of arms so it should have been an even more crowded design at the end. some things i want to mention are
- kept the crown from the original twinverse temple fusion, since i really liked it
- i could not draw rose's curls, so i opted for the ol' swoopy hair.
- i added some darker marks on the arms to indicate which arm represented who. a tear drop for lapis, an arrow for pearl (representing her spear), the symbol on rose's shield for rose, a flame for ruby, and an hourglass for agate (representing fusion i guess?)
- one of the hands is in the water, this is supposed to be lapis's :)
- two of the left arms are interlocked, these are pearl's and rose's. the canon temple has a missing weapon, which is seen in bubble buddies i believe. similarily, the interlocking arms should have a spear and shield, but they fell off.
- the most important bit is that in the canon temple, there is an arm resting underneath the house. here, i had one go below the house, and one go above. those are rose and pearl, holding hands, and keeping steven and nora (or at least their house) safe.
