World Building!
I'm so stoked! I'm nearing the end of one of the aspects of my world building I've been working on, populating it with species! The main intent behind this setting is having a setting I could run nearly any game system in. (Lancer could get a bit weird, but I have ideas)
SO, here are the species I currently have, as well as brief notes about them.
If you don't see your fave fantasy/scifi folk here, please say something. I'm trying to keep everything in mind but im sure things have slipped through. The goal is have options enough that I could be like 'Oh, 5e player, you wanna be a Lizardfolk? Gotchu, that'd be a Scaldrein!', "Oh, PF, you wanna be a Gnoll? Check out the Knella, they're a Praeculyan offshoot!", 'Oh! Blades in the Dark player, you wanna be a Tycherosi? So, for that, you can choose any race, but you're gonna be from one of the settlements on the planet's cores.', "Oh, Daggerheart player, you wanna be a Fungril? Got it, that'd be a Euxoma."
Arleyn: Descendents of dragons that abandoned their larger forms for the versatility of bipedal forms. Some (mostly unsubstantiated) rumors tell of Arleyn who claim to have been born directly from a dragon.
Armaliidae: Pillbug folk that live in a city built into a mountain. Lots of tubes and chutes for transportation.
Elvs: Think elves if they were horror creatures. Reptilian, reflective eyes, structures high in the trees, claws that enable climbing with ease. Long mane that traces their spine, whiplike tails. Still the whole... live forever, magical, secluded, etc etc.... Just they're real weird about it.
Euxoma: Originate from a region colloquially nicknamed The Colony
Gnomes: Tinkerers and gizmo creators. Due to The Caress, many have evolved/mutated new appendages to help them with their crafting.
- - - The Caress was an event where the universe was temporarily dipped into an alternate demonic dimension known as The Echo of the Demonic. It was intended to be permanent, but there wasnt enough room in the demonic dimension, so the Soul Realm popped out of it rather quickly.
Goblinoids: Tunnel dwellers, looking like hairless cats of varying sizes. The different subtypes of goblin are dependent on the kinds of tunnels they adapted for.
Hizaya: Tiefling, but if instead of 'my ancestor was influenced by the demonic' it was 'one of my ancestors was fed upon by The Light that Hungers.'
- - The Light that Hungers: an anomalous life form that's made of light outside of the spectrum we can observe.
Human: Specialize in soup, explosions, and intoxicants.
Kandze Dzunglia: Anthro-scorpions! Don't leave their forest often, are very content with their lifestyle.
Leyva: Bipedal folk whose biology has become influenced by the Leylines, meaning there are variants for each of the 21 leylines. The most common ones in the main world are Heat, Gas, Fluid, Structure, Chaos, Darkness, and Light.
Mesnidarians: Humanoid jellyfish folk. Think illithid, but replace 'squid' in that equation with jellyfish. The first sapient species to evolve on this planet.
Orques: Ranging from forest greens to desert tans, they're hardy nomads whose ancestors evolved tusks to handle some of the tougher shells and exoskeletons of the available foods where they ranged.
Orryliri: Subterranean Elvs with the lower half of a massive scorpion made out of obsidian.
- - Half-Orryliri: Most often found amongst one particular settlement in The Veins of the World, most commonly are elvs with a handful of Orryliri traits
Phyvira: Plant folk.
Praeculyan: One of the magical species, Praeculyans are unique in that they vary drastically in appearances. From birth until shortly before puberty, they are rather plain, albeit vaguely feline, humanoids. Soft rounded faces, pointed ears, and long flowy tails that express emotions. At the start of puberty, they begin to change, and once their change has run its course, they will be a bipedal version of a creature which best suits their skills, interests, and personality. Sometimes populations of Praeculyan end up consistently evolving into one type of creature, and they can become their own evolutionary offshoot.
- - Kaeryx: Avian praeculyan offshoot
- - Quamaya: Serpentine praeculyan offshoot
- - Roxoa: Feline praeculyan offshoot
- - unnamed canid offshoot
- - unnamed Limbed-reptilian offshoot
Prokyons: Ranging from gnome sized to Arleyn sized, these are massive single-celled organisms. Held together by gravity magic, they often rearrange their organelles to create a facsimile of a face when communicating with other species.
Sauroa: Dinofolk.
Scaldrein: Closer cousins to the Elvs than others, Scaldrein are more adapted to life amongst volcanic rock, with denser scales and harder claws.
Shiftborn: Genetically influenced by the Goddess of Chaos, or, according to some, a touch of fey in the bloodlines, Shiftborn can change their appearance on a whim. Some refine this ability into a more subtle manifestation that lets them change their appearance at will, whilst others choose to forgo subtley in exchange for being able to grow claws and fangs and wings when needed.
Spiroquians: Strange invertebrate creatures with five arms, five legs, five wings, and a face which spirals open when speaking or eating.
Syithen: Artificial sapient life forms, ranging in a variety of body plan. Some are the stereotypical bipedal robot, others have body plans which are strange and alien and made of unexpected materials.
Trinyu (dwarfs): Pretty standard, except these dwarves evolved from moles and other burrowers, and rather than picks and hammers are more accustomed to burrowing with their hands and more glove-like implements. The Trinyu capital city is suspended via magic and rock bridge a few hundred feet above the surface of the planet's Mantle. Can also tunnel through softer materials with their mouths because Eoin Colfer was cooking with that idea.
Vathryan: Half-Soulrealm Sapient, half some sort of creature from the Echo of the Demonic.
Vaytroa: Half-Soulrealm Sapient, half some sort of creature from the Echo of the Angelic.
Zagrie Gryene: Wasp people from the next nearest planet. Those born with magic have a strange method of reincarnation that allows them to skip childhood.
Zaythien: Thanks to a touch from the Echo of the Fey in their ancestry, these small statured folk are known for being uncannily lucky.

I thought it was fairly normal to feel empathy for bad people.
I thought it was common, even.
But after my Elon/Grimes post... now I'm wondering if I was mistaken about that.
I wrote a post about Trump being traumatized after his assassination attempt and a post about his poor adaptation to aging. I expressed sympathy for him in both cases. But I still maintain my white hot hatred of him and wish for him to face consequences.
Elon was abused by his father. Some of the stories are incredibly tragic. Hearing those stories triggers an involuntary response in my emotional systems that I can't stop no matter how much I despise present-day Elon. I also wonder if that abuse never occurred maybe we wouldn't be dealing with this current clusterfuck.
I have never held so much anger towards a single person as I do my brother. But I also see him as a victim of abuse. I know he was once a really good person and he was slowly corrupted. I feel sorry for him. I mourn the amazing person he used to be. And I still love him.
But that doesn't make me any less angry.
