Jeff Mangum of Neutral Milk Hotel showed his support at Occupy Wall Street by joining the protestors and playing an awesome acoustic set. The best part? All of the NMH fans singing along. I so wish I was there for this!

SUNSET JUNCTION CANCELED--NOW WHAT?
Tumblr media
So you have probably heard that Sunset Junction was canceled after being denied a permit, and if you had been planning on attending the event you're probably thinking to yourself, "what am I going to do now?" Well, you're in luck! Though Sunset Junction will not be happening, many venues in the area have stepped in and are putting on shows with bands from the Sunset Junction bill! BuzzBands is constantly updating the list of shows, so keep an eye on their site for more info!
Here is their show list as of 3:15pm PST on 25 August 11:
Art Brut is headlining an early show, at 5 p.m. Saturday, at the Satellite. Downtown Lobby reports Art Vs Science and the Hundred Days will support..
Butthole Surfers and 400 Blows are confirmed for a show Saturday at the Echoplex. (The Dntel show has been moved upstairs to the Echo.)
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Charles Bradley and Hands have been confirmed to play Sunday at the Echoplex.
Helmet has booked a show at the Viper Room on Saturday night, according to TicketWeb.
Dangerbird Records will be doing something akin to a SXSW day party at the label’s headquarters in Silver Lake. The event will be co-hosted by 98.7 FM and Buzz Bands LA. The lineup, starting at noon Saturday, is: Holly Conlan, Francisco the Man, Vanaprasta, the Fling, Chasing Kings, Useless Keys, Milo Greene and Butch Walker & the Black Widows. Donations will be accepted for the Pablove Foundation.
He’s My Brother She’s My Sister, Olin & the Moon and Manhattan Murder Mystery will be part of the grand opening of the new What Cheer? Bar (3213 Beverly Blvd.), part of festivities that include the Black Apples, FIDLAR, Stringfellow Hawks, Downtown Train and more (including a DJset from Jacob Safari of Wavves). Details here.
The Growlers are doing a 5 p.m. in-store at Amoeba on Saturday — and they’re playing the Nomad Gallery downtown at 9 that night.
Tapes N’ Tapes will play the Satellite as part of Stone Darling’s residency at the Satellite on Monday.
Echo Park businesses are getting into the mix too. Barrio Tigerhas confirmed a show at Origami Vinyl. On Sunday, Manhattan Murder Mystery plays at Origami Vinyl and the Black Apples play at Shop E.P.I.C.
Milo Greene will play at 11 p.m. Saturday at the Hotel Cafe.
Carina Round will play at 10 p.m. Sunday at the Hotel Cafe. The Rescues have been added at 9 p.m.

Peaches will do her DJ at Freak City on Sunday, LA Weekly’s Lina Lecaro reports.
Cinderella Motel will play a matinee/early evening show Saturday at Lot 1 Cafe. Time TBA.
El Cid’s scheduled shows apparently will go on. (If you’re not one of the locals boycotting El Cid.)
A house party on Edgecliffe will feature the Damselles and the TC4, Manhattan Murder Mystery, One Trick Pony and others.
The Damselles will also be playing Bardot on Friday night with the Mo-ods.
Hanson’s publicist reports that the band will not do a show this weekend but will look to add a makeup L.A. date later in their tour.

If you've seen Alkaline Trio play, or are even just a fan of the band, odds are you've read the phrase "FREE THE WEST MEMPHIS THREE" at least one time in your life. The West Memphis Three were convicted of killing three Cub Scouts back in 1993, despite a lack of evidence, motive, or connection to the victims. With one of the men given the death sentence and the other two life sentences (and Misskelley an additional 40 years), there seemed to be little hope for freedom. A few years ago, however, there was a major break in the case, when DNA test results proved that the men were not involved in the murder, but the step-father of one of the victims was a match. With countless hearings, the public coming together to help, and the truth finally being exposed, there was finally hope for the West Memphis Three. Though injustice remained a common theme throughout the case, today we can finally say that the men we have known as the West Memphis Three for the past eighteen years are now free.
Earlier today, the Free The West Memphis Three Support Fund updated their web site with this message:
"This morning, in a courtoom in Jonesboro, Arkansas, all parties involved in the ongoing legal cases of the West Memphis Three have agreed to a plea agreement, which has resulted in the immediate release of all three men.
We will post more details here as we compile them. For more immediate information, please visit the splash page on WM3.org, for a running list of articles posted by various major news outlets pertaining to this ground-breaking event.
We would like to sincerely thank everyone who has supported the West Memphis Three over these past 18 years!
More to follow, very soon."
