Picked these up in a local record store in NYC. Records were a little pricey, but these were in my price range and i knew i needed them. #SuperDuperAliceCooper was awesome, #BangerFilms always does good work. I've heard the audio to #Megadeth #CountdownToExtinctionLive and i knew i need the footage. And you can never go wrong with #Dio. (at Generation Records)

Cd 3/8 from the @nuclearblasteurope sale is #Testament's phenomenal live album "Dark Roots of Thrash. Recorded last year at the #ParamountNYC, DRoT reminds me why i need to give Testament a legitimate chance. I saw them last year with #LambOfGod and they are just as good live as recorded, and better live than in the studio from any song I've heard. That's one of the highest compliments I believe i can give a band, live performance quality is very important to me.

#2 of 8 from the @nuclearblasteurope sale is #BlindGuardian's 8th album, #ATwistInTheMyth. Epic power metal at its finest. Blind Guardian is one of those bands that i knew of and recognized but never delved far into their discography past the more popular releases. Definitely happy with this one.

The fact that the League of Legends band became an actual thing and has Jorn Lande and ZP Theart lending their vocals to the project makes my inner geek unbearably happy! Epic video game power metal at its finest!

Ronnie James Dio - This Is Your Life Tribute Review

It’s almost hard to believe that four years have passed since Ronnie James Dio left the metal community in tears. A man who redefined what it meant to be a metal vocalist, fronted some of the most influential bands in rock & roll and heavy metal history, such as Richie Blackmore’s Rainbow,  Black Sabbath following the departure of the seemingly irreplaceable Ozzy Osbourne, and his solo career in Dio that spanned up until his unfortunate passing in 2010. Universally respected for his contributions to the music world as being one of the founders and pioneers of the heavy metal movement and credited for popularizing the ‘devil horns,’ Dio has more than left his mark and is befitting of only the best of tributes. For a man that stood on roughly 5 foot tall, this man was a larger than life, compassionate, and vastly intelligent man that is still mourned to this day. This is Your Life is the kind of tribute album that only comes along for the most well respected of musicians. As someone who garnered the utmost respect from the entirety of the rock & roll and heavy metal community, one could not just throw together an assortment of mediocre covers and call it a day. Some of the biggest names in rock and heavy metal have been brought together to create something that embodies what this man did and pays tribute to his entire category of work. Just some of the acts that are attached to this project include Corey Taylor (Slipknot, Stone Sour), Motorhead, Halestorm, Tenacious D(Jack Black), Killswitch Engage, Rob Halford(Judas Priest), and Metallica. Both Corey Taylor’s version of “Rainbow in the Dark” and Halestorm’s cover of “Straight Through the Heart” can only be described as a magical, capturing the very essence of the original piece with love and admiration in every note, while Glenn Hughes’ version of “Catch the Rainbow” almost brought me tears.

There are enough covers of Dio’s work that a solid tribute album could have happened at any time, but the fact that Corey Taylor, Halestorm, Metallica, Tenacious D, and others recorded most of these tracks specifically for this really lends to the tone as a whole. The admiration and love is almost palpable in every track. Having now finished listening to the album start to finish all I can do is sit here in silence, in awe of what I have just heard before I go back for a second round!

Unlocking the Truth

Formed by three young boys from Brooklyn, New York while still in the 7th grade, Unlocking the Truth restores my faith in the future of metal. Only still in middle school, these three already posses more talent than many bands I encounter of college students.
