Greetings, everyone!
As promised, Chapter Six of Fields of Asphodel is now playable. Please note that for this one, I reuploaded the entire game, in order to add more save slots. There are now 12, so that should give you all plenty of room to try new things.
Be warned that I did adjust some variables in previous chapters this time, so things may break if you’re playing from an old save. That is simply the nature of the beast, I fear.
Anyway, there are 109,854 words in this new chapter, bringing the game to a grand total of 559,257 words in all so far.
In this chapter, you can:
Figure out what’s up with those weird dreams.
Take a big step (or don’t) towards full-fledged godhood
Meet (or don’t) the eccentric deity of dreams
Hang out (or don’t) with the Queen of the Gods herself
And more!
I have also:
Completed a few bugfixes
Added six save slots
Various typo corrections, etc.
As always, I welcome feedback, and I hope you all enjoy the chapter.

I think theres a blog thats copying your story 👀👀👀
I haven't been on tumblr in a while, so I don't know when this was sent, but let's not do this. Unless this person literally copied and pasted my intro post onto their blog, they probably didn't copy me. Most likely they've just used some similar tropes, tropes that have existed for far longer than my story has. I understand if you were trying to be helpful, but accusations of copying are rarely helpful to anyone.

There is so much blood on your hands and you can't even remember your own name.
There's a sickly feeling idle in the back of your throat. You're far from home, in a desolate city filled with toxic air and nothing but a piece of cloth to hold over your mouth and nose as you try and make sense of your situation. You don't know who you are, and the harder you try to remember, it feels like you forget more and more. There was a house built atop the remains of a tragedy, you feel angry just thinking of it, which scares you.
You've done something terrible, you think.
Tumblr media
CORSAIR is rated 18+ due to sexual content and depictions of violence.
Tumblr media
Set in the near future, Corsair is a story of remembrance, repentance and reconciliation. You wake up dazed and bruised on a street corner in the city of Bailey Point, a desolate wasteland of theft and murders. You can barely remember a thing about yourself, but an overwhelming sense of guilt floods your system when you think back on a life you can’t even recall as your own. You remember enough to know that this isn’t your home.
After a lose-call with death, you pass out and wake up in the confinements of a cold, white bedroom. There's a pounding in your head and blood on your clothes, which makes the clean set on the end of the bed much needed. After feeling your room lurch to the side, and the sound of moving water crashing against the walls, you realise that you're in a ship. Your captors? A small crew of military personnel that have been hand-picked by those high up to travel, search, rescue and destroy: the Corsair.
Their medic explains to you that they found you bloody and bruised when scouting Bailey Point in response to its air pollution: they were trying to see if anyone there was even alive anymore. They brought you onto the ship to get you away from the toxic air when you started rambling about being lost and 'forgetting yourself'. She explains to you that they've taken a vote, and the consensus is that you'll stay with them until you remember where home is, and then they will take you there. They have the go-ahead from 'back at base' to keep you with them, warm fed and safe whilst they figure out how to get your memory back.
Everything seems to be going smoothly on the ship, they're a few days from embarking back out onto the sea and you'll be joining Corsair as their medic works on reversing your memory loss. All is fine until the day you're meant to leave when a temporary member of Corsair takes you out to see Bailey Point in an attempt to spark your memory. The two of you encounter a manic stranger with their sights set on you: they even know your name, and they want you dead.
Now you're facing the pressure of trying to remember your entire life when all you know is your first name. Your attacker is being kept in solitary in the ship, Corsairs medic working tirelessly to try and figure out whats going on. Corsair can help you, they insist, you're safe with them.

[M] Nathan Meyers, Team Lead.
Nathan Meyers is burdened with responsibilities that cut deep into his bones and restrict him from true relaxation. Selected to lead Corsair through their endeavours due to his stellar and ruthless performance in training, Nathan has formed an iron and impenetrable exterior in an attempt to stay on task at all times. This has lead him to seem like the asshole of the century, Townes constantly cracking jokes about how both sides of his bed must be the wrong side. Never satisfied with their accomplishments and always aiming higher, Nathan isnt the most hospitable, and treats inconveniences like burdens. Unless you're his twin brother, Charlie, you're going to struggle to crack a smile out of him.
[F] Eiza Laine, Second-In-Command.
Eiza is the last person you'd expect to be second in command— as sweet as they come, she personifies flowers and summer evening under the new stars, Having originally trained for works in the field of medicine, her training results stunned her superiors, and she was rewarded with a place beside Nathan commanding Corsair. The only reason she wasn't gifted full leadership is her inability to raise her voice when needed: her empathy too strong for such an unforgiving world. She doesn't let the words of many get to her, however, and will always opt for kindness over any means of violence. She is warmth and comfort personified, and is happy to have you alongside them.
[F] Elenisa Steele, Team Medic.
Nisa Steele is like the changing weather: cold one moment and freezing the next. Every crack in her demeanour is frozen over in seconds, caging herself in like it's a primal instinct for survival. She is Corsairs medic, though she would rather any other job— she was meant to be in Nathans position commanding the rest of Corsair and having first say on whether to shoot or spare. Unfortunately for her, an incident in her last year of training mixed with her tendencies to resort to violence damaged her chances at ever taking on a leadership position within the crew. Refusing to take an office job in comms, Nisa picked up medicine and has begrudgingly settled as Corsairs medic. At least she gets to fight when necessary.
[M] Charlie Meyers, Team Researcher.
The soft-worded contrast to his twin brother, Charlie is a welcoming spirit who finds his attention on the happenings of the world. He knows the ins and outs of almost everything, has valuable information on people and businesses that some would literally kill for. Charlie holds the key to the downfall of many people, but he would probably give it all up for those he loved. Charlie knows no bounds when it comes to his friends, and when he's not locked up in his room with too many books to count, he's always putting a smile on someones face. Townes jokes about how he was a mother in his previous life: its not hard to imagine with how he cares so deeply for the world around him. Him and his brother have a... difficult relationship.
[F] Amanda Townes, Communication Lead.
Townes is the relief of comedy and genuine understanding that everyone needs. She is no less of a member of Corsair than the others, but works in an office cross-country as communication lead. She tells Nathan and Eiza where to go, sends out any supplies and weaponry needed and is the first to ask when it comes to getting information and resources. She has eyes and ears all around the Corsair ship, although privacy is respected, she is only ever the press of a button away. Townes constantly tries to combat her boredom in the office by trying to get Corsair members on board with stupid jokes and pranks to pull (especially on Nathan)— she is also trained in counselling and moral support skills: available to chat anytime.
[M] Alys, Contracted Assassin.
Alys works with the shadows, slips between them without a trace and emerges like darkness descending on day. An assassin by trade, he has been contracted to join corsair on their mission to Bailey Point. The crew may be sent to examine living conditions, but he's got a task to fulfil: eliminate the last living member of a historically merciless gang, who he has reason to believe has fled to Bailey Point. Alys may be on a mission of his own, but that doesn't mean he won't dedicate his spare time to trying to push the buttons of all his new companions. Someone has to be the asshole. Alys is a thief, liar and killer by trade, which means he already has the upper hand on Corsair— morals aren't on his mind.
[F/M] Laiken King, ???.
What to say about Laiken? They're out to kill you, and you dont know why— maybe they don't either: they won't say a word to anyone but you. Theres something wrong here, and no one can figure out what. For now they're being kept with Corsair and, for your own safety, far from you.

Unravel your memories as you play, discover a story within the story: learn who you can and cant trust.
Form bonds with everyone on the ship. Interact with a variety of characters, from an arrogant leader to his sweet and gentle second in command, a kind researcher with many interests, a grumpy medic, an actual assassin and even the person that seems hell-bent on killing you.
Customise yourself, your personality, sexuality, pronouns, appearance and more! Choose how you interact with those around you, and see how it affects the story.
Fall in love in unconventional ways. You're not supposed to sleep with an assassin, you know?
Go on adventures with Corsair as you regain your memory. Make new memories and experience the semi-futuristic world with fresh eyes.

Asks (both NSFW and SFW) are okay and encouraged! Apologies if I don't reveal much about Laiken, I'm excited to keep yall on your toes!

I don't have a timeframe at the moment, but I am writing! The plan is to update the demo chapter by chapter, so there will probably be a while between updates
Thanks for the interest!

What would be the perfect date for the ROs?
Maya- Would enjoy something active with some sort of competition, like just go to a field and play tag or wrestle, also admit that she's bested you (and maybe give her a kiss as a reward). Alternatively, steal a horse
Opal- She would like to go on a horseback ride followed by a nice picnic
Ellis- Would enjoy a walk through a market looking at all the wares that are being sold and when you've finished looking through everything buying a meal from a vendor
Lock- Dinner and dessert somewhere private before snuggling
Flint- Going to see some sort of performance before getting dinner and enjoying it somewhere intimate

Note
What gift would make Maya and the other ROs smile?
Maya- Crow gifts, like a random little object that you've found on the ground, this would also be the kind of gift that she would often bring you
Opal- Something practical like sword oil, would show her that you care and pay attention
Ellis- A piece of fine clothing or jewelry that they've been eyeing but haven't been able to buy themselves (though they would feel somewhat conflicted about this gift)
Lock- Flowers, the fact that they're a gift that is only given to provide the receiver with something pretty to look at for a few days before dying... he'd just feel special that you've given him something so impractical
Flint- Honestly, anything that you've clearly put thought into, whether it's a super practical gift or a super sentimental gift

trigger warning for violence
Lock, age 14
His arms are bound to the post in front of him, a cloth taped over his chest while his bare back is exposed. He winces as the whip cracks against his back once again, but he forces himself to ignore the pain and instead focus on mending the skin on his back before the next strike can come. This sort of training isn't uncommon for him, his commanding officer wanting him to get quicker at healing, and he has gotten quicker. The first handful of times he wasn't able to keep up at all, the whip frequently hitting already broken skin, but now he's fast enough to heal one tear before the next one can come.
He waits for the whip to come down against him again, but instead, his handler walks over to the post to untie him.
"You're making acceptable progress Hemlock."
Acceptable. That was high praise coming from him, Hemlock didn't think he'd ever heard the man say 'good' to anyone under him, though he'd heard him say 'terrible' plenty of times.
"Thank you, sir," he responds dutifully.
The man offers no response, turning and walking up the stairs and out of the small room they're currently in. Hemlock grabs his shirt, putting it on before following silently behind the man.
He is unsure where they are going, as his handler usually dismisses him after his private training, but he knows better than to ask. After walking for a few minutes the man stops at a door, talking to the two guards positioned at the entrance before going inside. Hemlock attempts to follow him, but the guards step in front of him, barring his entrance. Obediently, he waits outside of the room.
He only has to wait a handful of minutes before he hears, "Let him in," and the two guards step to the side, allowing him to enter.
He enters the room, standing tall with his hands clasped behind his back. A woman he doesn't recognize, a general going by her uniform, sits on the other side of a desk and he nods respectfully to her.
"Well?" the general says, barely sparing him a glance.
The man is smiling widely as he walks over to Hemlock, turning his body so that Hemlock's back is facing the general. Hemlock offers no resistance when his handler lifts the back of his shirt, showing the general the scars on his back. Hemlock can hear the woman get up and walk over to get a closer look.
"And the fresher-looking marks are from today?" asks the general.
"Yes, yes," his handler says, speaking quickly, "from no more than an hour ago, and he healed them all in less than a minute."
The general is silent for a moment before saying, "While healing that many, that quickly is impressive, a whipping isn't exactly the kind of wound you get in a fight, will he be able to do anything about a sword in his gut?"
"Would you like a small demonstration?" the man asks, and Hemlock doesn't need to see him to know that he's smiling.
The general must've said yes, because the next second he's being turned around, a deep slash being delivered by a dagger across his stomach. He bends, but he stays standing, putting his hands over his stomach he can feel his blood running through his fingers. He blocks everything else out and focuses on healing himself, forcing his body to mend itself.
He doesn't know how long it took to heal himself when he finally stands tall again, but when he sees his handler's hands clasped in front of himself he knows it hadn't taken too long.
"Hmm," the general studies him for a moment, "And he's a competent fighter?"
"Yes, you can come and watch his training tomorrow if you'd like to be certain."
The general shakes her head, "No, that won't be necessary," she offers her hand to the man, "You've done an impressive job, we can discuss more details after the boy goes back to the barracks."
The man makes a gesture with his hand that Hemlock knows means he's been excused, he gives a nod, but he doesn't think either of the people sees it.
As he walks to the barracks Hemlock wonders what exactly he will be doing now, he assumes some sort of fighting based on the conversation he heard, but he knows he won't be told any specifics until it is necessary. He wishes that he was permitted to ask questions about this, but he needs to trust the people above him. Even though this wasn't exactly what he imagined when he was recruited, he knows he's lucky to be given this type of training at such a young age so he ignores any doubts he may have and continues on his way.

Ellis, age 18
Ellis' hand is clasped around the small circular piece of metal, their eyes closed as they work on infusing the confidence-boosting charm. Pushing the feeling of confidence into the metal, they imagine the charm being slowly filled until it's overflowing. When the small charm is unable to hold any more magic they attach it to a chain before picking up the other chains they've already attached enchanted charms to.
They yawn as they stand, exiting their small room and opening the door that leads into the shop where they work. The shop sells an assortment of items, medicinal plants, soaps, cloth, and most recently, enchanted charms. The front of the shop has a large window and they're surprised to see that it is already dark outside, enchanting the charms must've taken longer than I thought. Luckily, Asahi still appears to be out, so they won't have to endure any lectures about taking better care of themself. Moving to a shelf that sits behind the counter they pull down a wooden box and gently place the charms in the box before placing the box back onto the shelf.
They rub their eyes while they start to walk back to their room when they hear the clicking of the shop door being unlocked. The door opens, revealing the towering form of Asahi, the man who owns the shop. He looks surprised at seeing Ellis awake, but his surprise quickly transforms into displeasure.
"Why are you still awake?" Asahi asks, putting his hands on his hips.
They know that most people find Asahi intimidating and they can understand why, the man stands over six and a half feet tall with well-defined muscle and broad shoulders, but Ellis has seen the man patiently nurse a bird back to health, only acting irritated when he knew someone else was watching. An amused smile appears on Ellis' face at the memory. They don't know how long they stand there, lost in memories, but a push against their shoulder brings them back to the moment and they see Asahi eyeing them with a slightly concerned expression.
"Sorry," says Ellis, "I'm just tired."
"I've told you not to over-exert yourself doing magic for me," Asahi responds.
Ellis shakes their head with a small smile, "You make it sound like I'm doing a favor for you, this is my job, it's fine that I'm a little tired."
"You're right this is a job, and an important part of having a job is being capable to do the job and if you don't allow yourself to rest, you're not going to be useful to anyone."
A soft sigh leaves Ellis' lips, this isn't the first time they've had some version of this conversation and they doubt it will be the last, and while they understand rest is important they refuse to take advantage of Asahi's kindness, because that's what all of this really is, kindness. While selling enchanted charms can make you a profit, it can also mean losing the customers that don't trust enchanters and that isn't a small group. Even though this town is more accepting than the one they grew up in, there are still people who don't want them here. Ellis has overheard multiple customers telling Asahi that he shouldn't have offered them a job, just bought a few charms before sending them on their way.
Ellis looks down, unable to look Asahi in the eye as the guilt they always feel comes rushing to the surface.
"I know I have been difficult, but I promise to be useful," they whisper.
"That's not," Asahi cuts himself off, grabbing Ellis by the shoulders and shaking them slightly, "You haven't been difficult, and you've been plenty useful, alright? Other people being fucking assholes isn't your fault."
Ellis gives a small nod before they remember something that makes them grin, "That was two."
"Two?"
Looking up and smiling playfully they say, "Swears."
"That- He's not even here," Asahi says as he removes his hands from their shoulders, allowing Ellis to fully change the subject.
"Hmm, I thought you promised though?"
He exhales a quick stream of air out his nose, "Fine," and Ellis watches as he removes two notes from his pouch, grumbling under his breath while shoving the bills into a small box that rests under the counter.
"Happy?" Asahi asks with exaggerated annoyance after he's put the box back.
"Yes, and I'm sure Navid will be pleased as well," Ellis responds, not able to stop themselves from teasing.
Asahi looks away, coughing, red rising in his cheeks. Ellis can't stop the giggle that comes out when watching the large man get so flustered, causing Asahi to scowl at them.
"You know what I said about you not being difficult, that was a lie."
Still giggling slightly Ellis says, "I'm sorry."
"Yeah, yeah," he says, nudging them gently towards the door, "just go to bed."
With a smile, Ellis goes to the door, opening it before looking over their shoulder and saying, "Good night, Asahi."
"Sleep well, Ellis."
