Had the pleasure of doing a photo shoot in Paris's famous Le Caveu de la Huchette jazz club with this lovely gent. Spent the evening with him and his friend learning about his experience with relationships being a young gay male, and his friends experience being an asexual female college student. Really enjoyed our conversation with this women yesterday. She was blowing my mind. Never met anybody like her. She is polyamorous, has been married three times. Her current husband introduced her to polyamory. She currently has a husband, partner, boyfriend, is dating her boyfriends wife, and has lovers occasionally. Also her two children are polyamorous. She was warm and loving. We were lucky enough to cross paths with this sweet young girl, walking with her sister and mother in the Le Marais district of Paris. Her father and mother are divorced. She shared her thoughts with us. “I use to think when a princess married a prince she had no choice. She had to mary weather she loved him or not. Now I know there is diversity and you don’t have to get married if you don’t want to. I tried to ask my parents what they liked about each other to get them back together. We just had the hairpulling adventure and our lovely Divorce Dress was lost in the luggage abyss! But, look who found her way back to us! Just as we were scouting great sites to shoot (complete with an invitation to shoot in Natalie's art gallery! Tomorrow!!!) .. found her lounging here, at our apartment drinking tea and reading about French architecture! She has a mysterious smile on her face and she's been up to something, but won't say.. and we missed her soo much that we wont press the point.. we are just glad she’s back!!.. You know the saying “whatever can go wrong will go wrong”? Well that was our day. The Divorce Dress team set out for Paris today. We were a team of four. My husband had a business trip at the same time so he got to live it up in first class on his company dime while the rest of us slummed it in economy. Everything went as planned until we landed. We spent two hours in the immigration line at Heathrow airport. By the time we got to the gate we were right at the cut off time. The not so friendly air France agent explained to My husbands that because his passport expires on March 31st he was unable to travel to France.So Brian had to stay in London, France won't let you in with a passport less than 3 months till expiration. We ended up missed our flight to France. Had to rebook to take a later flight to Paris. When we arrived in Paris they lost all of our luggage, including the dress. So to recap, Lost luggage, lost my my husband, missed a flight. To top it off, the the owner of the Airbnb in Paris we were staying at said we could not check in if we came after midnight. We arrived at 11:56pm. On this Valentines day I reflect on all the stories we have heard of love and relationship endings. Relationships are hard work. They require dedication, forgiveness, compassion and kindness. It is so easy to loose sight of these things when we get caught up in work, kids, and all of life responsibilities. Many stories we hear are laced with resentments. Wether you are married, divorced, single we all struggle with the same things. “Last night I had spent the day like most. Preparing breakfast, taking kids to school, grocery shopping, viewing houses (for us to move), working remotely for two jobs, picking up kids, making dinner, cleaning the family room (witch was a disaster), getting our youngest son down to bed. I felt exhausted by the end of the day. I understand that my husband works hard at his job and that he is the real bread winner in the family. However, when he gets home sits on the couch and watches me cook, do dishes, put the kids to bed, when I have already had a long day, I just want to scream! There was one slight difference last night from most days. I asked my husband to do the dishes. I love and adore my husband and he has many redeeming qualities. These resentments that I am holding have built over time. The more I take the role of housekeeper, secretary, caregiver he does less. Do I blame myself? Have I allowed this to happen? Probably! I love him and I know he loves me. He does not want me to feel overwhelmed or unsupported and yet we have gotten here. Now I have to work my way back to an equal and ask more of him. ” Anonymous Reflecting on this is important, none of us want to go so far down the resentment path that we can not forgive and be kind. When I am personally feeling this way, I am not feeling sexy or sexual. It is hard to feel attractive and in love when you feel unappreciated. How many partners out there have lost the “lover” in them because they are exhausted or feeling unappreciated? How did you get your juju back?
