You want to know what is one of the most liberating things that I’ve incorporated into my life?

Accepting and not caring that something I like isn’t cool.

Seriously. I don’t believe in guilty pleasures anymore. If I like it, I like it. If it’s dumb, or not cool, or “old”. So what. I get joy out of it. Now, I’m not talking about morality, or ethics, or being decent to each other. I’m talking about the little things that fill up my life that has no effect whatsoever on your life.

I used to care SO much about if what I like was cool, or ironic, or proved I had “good taste”.

Now, I just want to be happy. I just want to fill my life with more joy than criticism.

So, if you like something and want to talk about it, but are afraid you can’t find anyone who will feel the same way, just know this:

I will listen to you. Even if your tastes and my tastes don’t jive. I will listen to you.

Because there is almost nothing more magical than watching someone else talk about what they love.
