recounting the jan 6th riot 11/08/24
hello beautiful friends, as someone who is fed up and insanely disappointed about the election results i want us to remember what occurred on january 6th.
when and where? on january 6th 2021:
at around 12PM Donald Trump began to speak to his supporters near the White House.
at 1PM the outer police barrier was broken into.
"We're going to the Capitol," he says. "We're going to try and give them [Republicans] the kind of pride and boldness that they need to take back our country."
3. around 2PM protestors have now broken windows and entered the capital.
4. between 3PM-4PM the protestors are banging on doors, destroying property, and have broken into the chamber.
5. Donald Trump finally addresses his 'fans' in a tweet.
reference:
https://www.npr.org/2022/01/05/1069977469/a-timeline-of-how-the-jan-6-attack-unfolded-including-who-said-what-and-when
aftermath?
https://www.justice.gov/usao-dc/36-months-jan-6-attack-capitol-0
here are statistics regarding the criminal charges and aftermath of the riot and with Trump back in office he stated (not accurate if he will or won't) that he would pardon those who took part in this act.
on a more psychological account the riot not only created a rift between the republican party itself but as a viewer it not only shocked me but it affects many, many more. here is one of many articles addressing the psychological affect of the riot:
https://nationalpress.org/topic/january-6-capitol-police-trauma-suicide-howard-liebengood-harry-dunn/#:~:text=They%20are%20at%20increased%20risk,over%20the%20past%20few%20years.%E2%80%9D
overall, i am very upset about the results of this election but i think we will be okay, we just need to find our communities and help each other. understand that there is always someone else out there that understands your anxiety, understands your fears, and can validate your emotions.
let me know if there is anything you would like me to talk about more in depth, i am still learning as well so please feel free to comment or shoot me a message regarding anything.
always here! <3

update 11/04/24
hi! its been awhile friends and i just wanted to update because of the current election going on! by the time my post is out it would already be to late to convince you to vote LOL. but overall, as a student in forensic psychology i can stop thinking about how the Jan 6th riot which majorly affected our society. it also negativelty affected the police on call, some even gaining PTSD.
i just wanted to give you guys some tips to overcome some dread or anxiety you might be feeling these next few days! :)
understand that this reaction is NORMAL just the way watching news can give us second hand anxiety.
DO NOT doom scroll, that will be the end of ya'll! make sure you take breaks and eat, drink water, and go for a walk! try to stay disconnected while also being kind to yourself!
TREATS TREATS TREATS! get some ice cream or a cheat meal! watch a comfort show and have takeout!
get some rest! sleep if you need too, and go to bed early! anxiety is known to screw with your sleep schedule!
at the end of the day take care of yourself and the people you love! regardless of the outcome we all deserve basic human rights!

here is the paper ya'll! it's a little rough because of the short deadline i had but i really might edit it up later but enjoy lolz
case study #1: 10/23/23 ->
currently writing a paper about the psychological underpinnings of arson; specifically the case of john “pillow pyro” orr.
i thought i could share a little bit about this certain case because i find it fascinating! once i finish my paper i will post it here, for you guys to read if you're interested.
first who is john orr? i'm glad you asked! john orr was a fire inspector for the glendale fire department; a very successful one at that! he enjoyed writing which separated him from his peers.
why did he start fires? my paper is going to talk about the fire-interest pathway and the dynamic behavioral theory!
dynamic behavioral theory: this theory of fire setting states that there is an involvement of interactions between general psychosocial disadvantage, predisposing factors & environmental factors that reinforce fire-setting.
3. how did he set fires? orr was said to have set about 2000 fires. a lot which happened during the day and suspiciously after arson investigator conferences (which ultimately led to his capture). his MO was using an incendiary timing device, usually comprising a lit cigarette with three matches wrapped in ruled yellow writing paper and secured by a rubber band.
4. outcome? orr was arrested in 1991 and was found guilty on 29 counts of arson & four counts of murder -> this sentenced him to life without the possibility of parole

Hey! Hope you’re having a good day, im finishing up my senior year of high school and I’m thinking about taking psychology. Would a phd in psychology be enough to become a forensic psychologist or is there much more to it?
Also how did you get into forensic psychology and how is your experience so far as a student?
i believe that a PhD in Psychology would be enough to purse that job option, but honestly to benefit working in that area i would try taking some criminal justice or criminal behavioral focused courses! so overall i think the best would be the psych focused PhD and then maybe trying to minor in criminal justice, or something salient!
i got into forensic psych, after i stopped loving forensic science. i always enjoyed forensic science and the idea of being in a lab but i also really enjoyed writing and studying people. so i decided to switch in psychology! so far i love it so much more, i get really excited to do my research and read new materials. i totally recommend it for anyone who wants to learn more about the human mind and what we're capable of!

study tip #1 - 5/31/23
finals are upcoming for me so heres some advice if youre feeling a bit stressed!
> take breaks! make sure you have a dedicated time to focusing on what you enjoy and a small hobby (yes that include video games)
> if youre in a slump make some flashcards! you don’t even have to study them but now you have a whole set of flash cards for a class + youve written out almost everything for your chapter or whatever youre studying!
> get fun treats! treat yourself before you beat yourself (😋) small treats like candy, coffee, and desserts can be a perfect way to treat yourself with a reward (even as a treat if you want it)
> dont know how to start an essay? plan out everything you need (i can make a seperate post :)) then if a research paper look through your sources and input your quotes! great youre like half way there! now just focus on a section at a time! awesome you should have your outline! now input filler sentences!
> feeling stressed? drop everything, put your headphones on, go on a walk! get some air, talk to a friend, read a book. at the end of the day your mental health is important!
wish you well!
cum rursus occurremus :)
