Playing around with some wookie ideas while I reteach myself to draw (I’ve got quite a long way to go). Built a character around him, a Wookiee soldier. I didn’t want to go with the traditional Kashyyk style Wookiee, or the Wookiee warriors as they were in Revenge of the Sith. I wanted to make a character who wears warpaint, and fights more like a human soldier than a primitive with a bowcaster. Grivaar uses modern weapons, and fought as a mercenary. He’s shirked off most of his connections to Wookiee culture. The only thing he doesn’t do that’s in line with his culture is use his claws for combat. I remember back to my gaming crew in ‘97, and how we used to crack jokes like this all the time. I don’t know that I’ve ever known a finer troupe than the Baywood Troupe. Many - many - have come close... but none have matched the sheer ferocity and in-game dedication to the kind of controlled chaos we had. It was like every game was simultaneously progressing and detailing at the same time. To challenge your players while being challenged by your players the entirety of a game’s length is game within the game. End result, we’d say stuff like this all the time. It is here. This bad boy, currently out of print, is priced New (if you can find it) at USD $68.00... or used in good condition for USD $38.95 on Amazon Prime. I know I have hailed often enough the wonders of WestEndGames Star Wars: Second Edition (and I always will), however I was relieved in my further research of this game to discover that the Saga edition by Wizards of the Coast (again, no longer in print) was developed in part by Mr. Bill Slavicsek, The very designer and developer for almost every Star Wars RPG between 1987 and 1991. So when WotC picked up the license for Star Wars in 1999, Mr. Slavicsek followed. I’ve played this before, as mentioned in the preface to my purchase, and I liked it. There were mechanics I didn’t like, such as finite use of Force powers... but Force Powers give characters god-like power among other characters who could be considered mundane without balance. I’ve got a lot of studying to attend between the Champions books I purchased, and now this book as well. I’ll continue updating as I go along. Champions: Powers just arrived today. Holy smokes, this book literally has it all. All the powers. Alll the pooowers. There’s shit in here that could be used to build super-villains. Unlike TSR’s Marvel Superheroes Advanced, this system seems very open to so much. I’m seeing so much... freedom... in this system. This system offers so much opportunity. To declare heroism. To discern the moral ambiguity of vigilantism, and what it means to be a god among men. Amazon Prime’s “The Boys” really addressed these issues, and they did a damned good job.
