BLOG POST: I ran #CortexPrime for my niece last weekend in a fantasy setting, as a mythical creature protector. Here's the write-up of what happened.

So a little bit of something different from us today. We thought we would share heraldry from some of the places that have been mentioned or visited in Some Other Heroes So Far.

First up the city where it all started. Cloud's Cairn

Next up is the Flag of the Royal nation of Daclain, where Malwind (where are adventurers currently are) floats close to the boarder of the Empire.

The Sun and moon represent the two major religions of the region, Those belonging to Sister Sun and Brother Moon.

* The banner of the Misktrium Empire depicts two dragons entwining a sword representing the strength of the Empire. The imperial crown sits above flanked by those of the 4 major peoples who make up the empire, Dragonborn, Human, Dwarf and Halfling. The 4 grey gems show industry

The Ashor Thalasocracy is the youngest of the great nations. Its flag is a mighty airship and the lands they protect on a sea of cloud. The power of their freedom has broken the chains that others would put on them a constant reminder of their goals to not be ruled or be ruly.

The City of opportunities; Vadarak. A chaotic place that loves the flow of coin and commerce above all. The Great rooted scales represent how trade nourishes all that the city touches and the seals of the 9 Guilds who run the city are attached below.

And finally: Fallen peak, A Dwarven city now a haven for Artificers, engineers and shipwrights of all people. The 2 axes are for the Wuix & Dvergr who joined hands & rebuilt after Ascention & A Crown remembers the now exctinct line of Dwarven kings who brought them to the skies.

D&D and Game characters

Kicking it off with Melekai. 

One of my first serious ttrpg characters, Melekai is an Arcane Trickster Tiefling. 

Melekai and Bortle (Bortle belongs to my friend Witch)

Melekai’s whole deal was that he is sneaky, loves pranks, and just being a gremlin. But he is also very soft, and learns some valuable lessons over the span of a Waterdeep campaign.

Melekai with my other Tief, Despair (an assassin) Funnily enough, I am using Despair while playing in a new Waterdeep campaign! Despair is more serious and business-like compared to Melekai.

In 2021 Melekai got an update both in design and lore. He’d grown so much from the old Waterdeep game, and I was using him as an NPC in my own homebrew game! I affectionally refer to this updated Melekai as ‘Dadekai’. His husband is one of the NPCs the party worked with, and he does have a daughter who is a prominent NPC in my homebrew!

Next up: Orinthus

A Half-Elf necromancer, originally a character I made for Elder Scrolls Online, I’ve adapted them for other tabletop game stuff.

These pieces are a bit older (2019 and 2020)

The second figure is Ro-Jakari, Azzyfree’s khajiit necromancer.

Garalash

A Half-Orc warlock who made a pact with a celestial being, Garalash is the healer for a Curse of Stradh game I am playing. She’s calm, collected, and a voice of reason when things get a bit wild.

An early piece when I first designed Garalash, and the first concept for Antarys Prise (as you will see later, he undergoes some changes)

Garalash can carry you both with her magic and her muscles. It’s been pretty fun playing a fairly sturdy healer!

Antarys Prise

My Drow/dark elf sorcerer that I am using for a friend’s homebrew game!

He is a dad. He tells puns, he cares for the younger party members, and he tries to be supportive of those who rely on him.

He is also the champion for a friend’s powerful mage, Astra. Astra maintains a safe refuge for Drow, and Antarys works to help her protect the hidden town. He does travel though, basically acting as a sellsword and helping those in need. He and Astra have butted heads over their conflicting views of keeping isolated and safe, or moving away from isolation and embracing the wider world.

I’ve been getting more into detailed backgrounds and more dynamic lighting. I was so happy with the still image that I wanted to try make it a gif (of course with simpler light and shadows to help save my sanity)

Zenny (Zennys Oakfell)

My Halfling Barbarian from another friend’s homebrew western-themed campaign.

She is tough, she is durable, and she takes no crap. She is a mercenary who will get the job done, but she is also sympathetic to those in need and has been known to provide her help without charge.

When fighting she uses a combination of a giant axe, and wild magic.

A commission of another D&D character I finished in 2022. The client wanted a style of shading that was a bit outside of my comfort zone after seeing the redraw of Kas, but I was up for the challenge and was really pleased with how it turned out.
