Yuuken Birthday Week Day 2: Kendo Training

First off, happy birthday Kalim!! When I was making these prompts I totally forgot Kalim's birthday would fall on one of the days. So of course I had to include him this time around. This is now a canon occurrence to me. Yuuken often does kendo training with Silver, but now after writing this I'm definitely imagining it was Kalim that brought them together. Yuuken is heavily autistic can you tell by how I write him

“Hah!” Yuuken’s grip on the bamboo sword was tight, swinging away towards the dummy hanging from the leafless tree. He hasn’t had time in the recent months to get some training in. His heart swelled, being able to practice kendo for the first time in a while. “Yuuken!!” A familiar voice echoed out from below the hill, the figure of rapidly waving hands standing at the end of the road that meets with the dirt path up to Ramshackle. “What’re you doing up there?!” It was Kalim, rare to see him alone without Jamil with him. He looked right in place under the sun, shining brightly enough to rival the star itself. Yuuken couldn’t help the smile that came to his face. “Good to see you Kalim,” He said, watching the Scarabia dorm leader rush up the hill to his side. “I’m just doing some kendo training.” “Kendo..? What’s that?” That familiar thrill gathered in his chest, it always seemed to happen whenever he got to talk about something he was passionate about. “Kendo is a sport that involves sword fighting,” He started, handing out his slightly scuffed bamboo sword to be inspected. “You use the shinai, ah, it’s sword made of bamboo to strike at the opponent.” “People don’t get hurt, do they?” Kalim asked, taking the sword in his hands. “I can’t imagine you playing a sport and injuring people, Yuuken.” “No– no no it’s nothing like that,” He couldn’t help but let out a laugh. Kalim was a bit naive, but he understood that curiosity. “There’s specific points where you have to strike on your opponent, but it doesn’t hurt them. You can feel there’s no sharp edges on that sword, plus-” He knocked on his armor, hearing the slight dink! of the harder outer shell. “-the armor is there to protect you.” He could see in the older boy’s eyes how he was trying to wrangle the information in his head. For a moment he was nervous he rambled, maybe explaining things when there was no explanation needed. He could vividly remember the kendo club liking when he explained the rules to them the first time, but well, then the fifth or sixth time got too much. Nor was there a great response after he explained the rules for the tenth time. “Oh!” A quick shout brought him back to the present, Kalim’s face beaming back up at him again. “I get it! It’s kinda like what Silver does!”

“Silver?” He’s seen Silver around campus. The quiet second year who seemed to nap in the courtyard or in class. They’ve talked a few times, but never anything beyond greetings, or the occasional overblot. “He does kendo?” “Well, no, I don’t think it’s kendo.. It’s sword fighting. With actual swords,” “This is a real sword.” “Well, it’s a different type of sword!” Kalim laughed. “They’re metal and they got the sharp edges! Silver invited me to hold one of his swords one time, boy was Jamil mad when he saw me holding it! Ahahah!” It may have been a different type of sword fighting, but even the mention that someone else in Night Raven College did a sport similar to kendo… How he wished he could tell Koito and the others. “Can I meet him?” The words spilled out faster than he intended. “I mean– I haven’t had an actual training partner in a while.. And if you say he’s already familiar with swords, I’m hoping I can get him to train with me.” It sounded a bit silly when he said it out loud. But Kalim’s smile only widened, the sword getting tossed to the ground as he grabbed Yuuken’s gloved hands. “Silver would be so excited to get another training partner! He usually trains with Sebek, and I tried to offer but Jamil shut that down fast,” “Sebek knows too?” His chest felt light with excitement. “Can I go ask them?” “Of course! Here, I think they’re actually training together around this time! C’mon, follow me,” Before he could be pulled away by the excited Kalim, Yuuken gathered his sword off the ground. Getting further away he could see the dummy he made hanging off the branch. It was nice, and he’d still practice with it sometimes, but nothing could beat the actual exchange between two partners. “Thank you, Kalim,” “Hm?” The dorm leader glanced back, red eyes sparkling bright. “No need to thank me!” “It means a lot to me. Really,” He fixed the sword under his arm as they walked. “Back at home, I… I started a kendo club. It took a lot of work. I gathered up the members myself, and our school was about to enter its first match in years.” His lips drew a thin line as he thought about it. At this point… That would’ve been months ago. Months too many.

“The night before the match… That’s when I got sent to Night Raven College.” “Right, right. Cause you’re not from this world..” It was rare to hear Kalim’s voice go soft. “So, you missed it?” “Hah…” A joyless laugh escaped him. “Beyond missed it. A part of me worries the team thinks I abandoned them.” “Aww, Yuuken..” The hand holding his squeezed, a pressure that was enough to feel like someone was there. “I’m sure they understand! And when you get home, you can tell them all about Twisted Wonderland!” “...I’m sure they’d love to hear about everything,” Yuuken picked up the pace, squeezing Kalim’s hand with his own. “Come on, we should hurry up.” “That’s the spirit!”

Yuuken Birthday Week Day 1: Tomatoes

Happy Day one of #YuukenBirthdayWeek25! I had a bit of trouble making the initial prompt list, trying to have them connect to Yuuken (at least, my version of Yuuken). Day one being tomatoes is pretty simple, that's his favorite food. You'll see why when you read further lol. I hope you enjoy this little piece I wrote for day 1!

“Yuuken, what’s your favorite food?” The question was innocent. Everyone else told their favorite foods around the table. Ace with a pick of hamburgers and cherry pie, Deuce with a few egg dishes, and Grim with anything. The thought to say ‘anything’ as well was big in his mind, but the words paused before he could say them. “Well.. I like tomatoes.” Instead a more truthful answer came out. “Tomatoes?” Ace laughed sharply, nudging an elbow into his side. “Really? That’s it? Nothing other than tomatoes?” “Well I like a lot of foods,” He continued, the focus on himself making a flush run to his face. “I like tomatoes, I like yakisoba, I like omurice,” “Pretty simple diet, huh?” He was sure Trey meant well when he said that, but for some reason that made a burning feeling radiate through Yuuken’s chest. “It’s nice to like simple foods like that.” “Is that a simple diet? That’s mostly what I had to eat growing up.” “Huh?” “Well,” He didn’t like those stares, like he said something strange. “...My parents weren’t around a lot of the time, so I had to make food myself.” “Yeah, and he’s a real bad cook!” Grim spoke through layers of cream and crust in his mouth. “He burnt breakfast this mornin’! And the mornin’ before!” “Ooh, if you get lessons you gotta get them from Trey!” Cater chimed in. “Although… how many times did you cut yourself with the knife today?” He glanced down at his bandaged fingers. “Only eight times. That’s a pretty good record, all things considered.”

“Right… Alright, time to use Doodle Suit,” Trey stood from his seat, grabbing the magical pen sitting in his jacket pocket. His face became straight and serious, sparkling white lights gathering around the ruby red jewel of the pen. “Doodle Suit!”

The sparkling lights gather before the slices of the mont blanc, surely casting some sort of magic on it.

“And, this did..?” Ace asked, glancing up at his senior with a raised eyebrow.

“Try it for yourselves,” Yuuken picked up his fork, sliding through the cream like it did before. Maybe it was just his mind overthinking it, but he could taste a tingle on his tongue, the taste of magic.

But instead of the sweet, creamy taste of the mont blanc, Yuuken’s eyes widened in surprise.

“...It tastes like tomatoes.”

“Oh man, mine tastes like omurice!”

“Hah, mine switches between hamburger and cherry pie!”

The taste was perfectly accurate to a tomato. The acidity on his tongue would be exactly like biting into a fresh, ripe one right off the vine. It was like back at home. Yuuken could visibly remember checking the garden each day, until they were ready to harvest and he could taste something fresh, something other than microwave meals or reheated leftovers.

“Yuuken? You okay?” It was Deuce’s voice that shook him out of it. He blinked, not realizing the tears that had gathered at the base of his eye. He blinked them away and glanced back down at the tart, taking another tomato-full bite.

“I’m okay. It just reminded me of home.”

Y'all are crazy-- of course I can answer those :3 #4 - Who was your OC most comfortable talking to about their feelings?

It's always gonna be Ace and Deuce! Those are Yuuken's besties!!! It's leaning more towards speaking to Ace because I think Deuce also has struggles talking about that kind of stuff, but Ace has his older brother Jack Heart who is gay, and he himself is definitely comfortable being straight... yup. But Ace is the the first to pick up that Yuuken has feelings for Riddle, teasing him about it until he realized-oh shit. Yuuken has NO idea what he's feeling right now. Well Ace is not a total asshole, he'll at least help him talk through his feelings... and tease him only a little bit.

#7 How much of your OC's identity is reliant on their gender identity/sexuality?

For Yuuken, not much. He's waaaay more focused on his identity and how it relates to how useful he is to others. Which is NOT HEALTHY Yuuken but it's fine he has work to do. And honestly having something like realizing he has a crush on Riddle and he's gay gives him something to like. Have that's not usefulness to others. Guys can you tell I like Enma Yuuken be honest

How sheltered was your OC from the idea of LGBTQ+ relationships when they were younger? How has it impacted their relationship with themselves?

PEOPLE ARE ACTUALLY SENDING ME ASKS OH GOD Anyway; it's a bit complex in Yuuken's situation! Were his mother alive and his father in his life, I don't think he'd be sheltered from LGBTQ+ stuff at all. They'd probably be very open and he'd grow up knowing what they are, probably come out around his age now and life would be good. Unfortunately that is NOT what happens. Yuuken raises himself on things already around the house, an old TV with only cable, and constantly working to keep living. So he never had time to really like... pause and think about his inner identity. He's not bigoted in anyway, he knows I think inherently he likes men (he and Koito had a blossoming crush that if he were not isekai'ed they would've gotten together) but he's just too Busy. Now he actually learns about himself possibly being gay in Twisted Wonderland when he meets Riddle. He's immediately fallen for him since the opening ceremony and is left in a confused state of "why do I feel really weird around him, I really like him but more than I like my other friends, what is this" and, unfortunately he really only finds out what he's feeling is a crush during Chapter 5. And Chapter 6 he finally confesses, in the worst possible situation (if ykyk I'll keep chapter 6 spoilers out). So, that's basically it! Yuuken is a sweet boy he'd never actually be a bigot he's just.... a bit stupid.

Wishmaster's Concert - Event

Grab your battle jackets, your ear protection, and your tickets! It's time to ROCK!

Event details below the cut.

Welcome to Bald Mountain Arena, the largest performance arena in all of Twisted Wonderland! Located in the tallest mountain along the range of the Shaftlands rests this monumental landmark. Rumored to be the host of spectacular all-night events, Bald Mountain Arena is said to put on some of the most notable alternative rock and metal festivals in history! But they only do so every once in a blue moon.

Tonight, Bald Mountain Arena's Metal Festival is set to occur, hosting some of the most famous metal bands in all of Twisted Wonderland! Once the sun sets, the first band will take the stage. And with enough sets to last until dawn, the highlighted band, Wishmaster, along side UnderDark, Pixie Metal, Fighting Dragons, and Her Draconic Majesty, will make even the bones of the undead rise and shake!

Where do Yuu (you) fit in?

Thanks to Cater's eye on social media, Yuu and the crew managed to snag some tickets just in time! Everyone is planning to meet up at the Dark Mirror with plenty of time to find good spots in the crowd. They might even get a chance to grab a bite to eat - much to Grim's delight - should everyone arrive on time!

Additional Event Background

This event was heavily inspired by a combination of Chernabog's segment in Fantasia (1940), as well as the song "FantasMic" by Nightwish. The song, if you are unfamiliar, is a metal homage to Disney and many of it's iconic works. Referencing of course Fantasia, Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty, the Black Cauldron, Pinocchio, and many others. (I highly recommend reading the lyrics, y'all. They are beautifully written.) If you need inspiration for this event, I definitely recommend taking a gander at those two inspirations.

The event consists of a lineup of various Disney inspired fake metal bands. The arena is a huge concert arena, with increased security, food trucks, and hydration stations. The crowd will absolutely form rowing lines, conga lines, and a fully realized mosh pit formed in the center below the stage. Glow sticks are permitted!

Cyril Zeman (created by @ramshacklerumble ) is the guest character for the event, and a Chernabog expy. He ia the face of the band Wishmaster, providing the masculine lead voice and lead guitar.

The Pop Music Club absolutely bought tickets for the concert. Even if this isn't Cater's vibe, he can't deny the virality that would come at taking photos for MagiCam. Lilia, of course, not only is eager to go, but he knows Cyril as an acquaintance. (It would be a crime for him NOT to show his support.) But more eager than any of the three to snag this once-in-a-life-time opportunity is Sebek. As described in his 100th Anniversary vignette, Sebek thrives in the concert scene, and will jump at any opportunity for a chance at "training". He knows that the audience here will bring their A game- so of course he has to rock even harder than the rest!

Characters can engage in the audience, in whatever ways make sense. Fake bands are more than welcome to join the line up, and if you decide you want to create OCs to play in any of the fake bands, you are more than welcome to do so!
