#InternetMarketing
initially, the idea of internet marketing seemed far from what I wanted to learn about. I didn’t posses the knowledge to effectively understand how to use it. It is different from simply marketing and of course promotions. It is the complete package of marketing. It sums up where your company or brand is and where you’d like to take it. It is the ability to utilize online channels to maximize profit and build a transmittable reputation.
Internet Marketing isn’t as bad as I had assumed. By bad, I mean tedious. You know, like lots of number crunching and analyzing data. For some, it’s the boring stuff. Throughout the course, i’ve gained perspective. I have a new found respect. It is a necessary tool in today’s digital economy. I spent at least 10 hours using online tools, resources and digital platforms. I have learned the more I know, the better off my business or any business I work with is.
The great thing about marketing is the presentation of facts. Numbers do not lie. In fact, numbers and data paint a clear picture. I am using the information gained from the course to enhance the marketing project. I chose SuperWoman Productions in Detroit for a class assignment. I’ve completed the SWOT and WEB analysis. I understand Click Fraud and Online Reputation management. It is valuable and is being applied to completing the final project for the Internet Marketing Program.

Digital Marketing at FS
To be completely honest I did not set a particular goal for this course. However, I did have a desire to learn more about how SEO works and how to implement a social media strategy that works for all of my businesses. I am getting older and selfies are becoming less exciting, lol. I really wanted to understand how companies are using digital media in order to increase their visibility and success with online communities.
Thus far, I have learned about the various digital marketing terms. The terms broad and long-tail phrases are interesting because I (like many others) have been using this “strategy” to get various results from SERPs. First, I’ll explain what a SERP is. It is a search engine result page. It’s basically Google, yahoo and bing to name a few. According to my professor, “a broad phrase is only 1-2 words used to locate a variety of results and information,” a long tail phrase would be that of 3-5 words used to search for more specific information” (DMK Go To Session, 2016) I have learned about KPIs (Key Performance Indicators. I understand how to look at data according to the objective, goals, indicators, and setting the target to assess the goal.
Personally, I will use digital social media engagement tools to optimize my personal brand building objectives. I am working on cleaning up my personal profiles online and make them more effective at becoming an expert in my field in order to convert them into potential clients for one of my businesses. Professionally, I will be able to help my clients understand their target audience and how to relate that to the projects they are working on. It is important in artist management to have all the tools to reinforce our clients’ goal. Usually, their expectations do not meet the current market, however with specific objectives and goal setting we can accomplish it on a well-tracked marketing plan.
In Gary Vaynerchuk's latest blog he says that he is a “counter-puncher” in the world of technology. He says, “I’m always keeping tabs on the current tech landscape at all times.I do this by watching people’s behavior at scale on social media and trusting my intuition.”
His words hold weight in my world because of how he has used his passion and social media to fuel a major component of his success.

Something is missing...
As a student, I have become extremely observant of professionals working in the music the industry. It is extremely important that we stay abreast of what is going on not only within the industry but with the people within the industry.
My goal is to become a very successful business/artist manager. I define success as the ability to build trust and create solid long lasting effective relationships in the business. I define it as not being the most famous, but being the most productive and eventually having an abundance of works under my empire.
I have begun to study managers all over the industry. The most successful being, Jonny Snipes, Zach Quillen and notably, Troy Carter. According to web-site The Richest, these men have carved paths and made people like Macklemore and Lady Gaga memorable acts. This is what I aspire. My goals are the learn as much about the business as it pertains to the artists. What I like most about those managers is their ability to allow their artist the creative freedom and flexibility. Many times in the music business people focus on becoming famous and end up losing the very essence of their “why”. Everyone has a reason why they are creative or enjoy the arts. There aren’t many people who become huge stars, but there are many people successfully changing lives, touching hearts and living a full life. I want my clients to have a taste of it all.
I am constantly reviewing blogs such as The Richest, and of course, anything that touches Forbes.
There are a few missing components from the management point of view. The development of an artist is what is most important. It dictates how well your artist will represent themselves and the company representing them. It tells your stake-holders and potential investors that you are doing the work. I have learned that this is what is missing and extremely necessary to bring to the forefront. I have plans to give the artist development work a new and improved connotation.

Final take on AEL
Originally, I was super prepared for this course. I was wrong. I unlearned everything. I’ve worked in a law environment for over 10 years. I expected to understand the rule and application of entertainment law. Needless to say, at FS you get exactly what you expect and much more unexpected. I was glad to relearn law in the hands of Full Sail University. I did not expect to learn as much as I did about the ins and outs of entertainment law. I expected to love law and want to practice it, but after this course, I’ve begun to reconsider my calling. it is not because of the work itself. It is because my attention span & illness compared to what is necessary for law, seems a bit under-developed. However, the intense focus required for this course is necessary for both personal and professional growth. As expected, this course provided the insight, direction and skills necessary to build a solid and effective business. I’ve learned the inside information about copyrights, trademarks, contracts and business negotiations. I’m confident after this class in making sure my clients and myself are well protected.

Legal Woes in Entertainment
In recent entertainment law news, there were three particular controversies that stood out. I chose to dissect the three because in a way they’re related.
Official Brands Vs. Roc Nation Sports
The first article discusses the legal issues surrounding Jay Z, Roc Nation Sports & NFL superstar Dez Bryant. It has been reported that Roc Nation founder Jay Z, lured Dez into leaving his current management contract with Official Brands. The Official Brands Management Company was contracted for 2 years. He signed with them in July 2014, to handle the off-field business for Bryant. He cut ties with Official Brands on February 24, 2015. The allegations are that a Roc Nation Sports employee made “material false and disparaging statements” to Dez Bryant. They claim this is what caused his mid contract switch. Neither Bryant nor Jay-Z was directly involved with the lawsuit, but of course this falls on their legacy. Although requests to toss out lawsuit were denied by judge early on, Official Brands was not allowed to move on its claimed interference. They were unable to show any future losses and it was concluded that the company hadn’t suffered any actual damages with regard to the contractual relations. Apparently the track record of signing big name athletes like Kevin Durant and Victor Cruz stood strong enough to dim the suspicions placed by Official Brand.
In my opinion this case was definitely foggy to begin with. It seems as though the executive team at Official Brands allowed their feelings to be the center of their allegations. The fact that no proof of communication was located in a technologically sound generation led me to believe that Roc Nation Sports simply handled business accordingly and appealed to Dez Bryant. Also, if there wasn’t any contractual defaults than Dez Bryant handled his business effectively and made the best choice for his brand.
Jared Leto Vs. TMZ
Writer, Matt Reynolds discusses the lawsuit between TMZ and actor Jared Leto. In winter of 2015 Leto was shown on TMZ criticizing pop super star Taylor Swift. He was in his home listening to her “1989” album, apparently for upcoming placement. The video captured him saying…” I mean, fuck her, I don’t give a fuck about her, it’s whatever works best for us.” Of course this statement caused a huge uproar in her fan community and with other executives. He was informed about the video leak before it was released and he reached out to TMZ to notify them of his full ownership of the footage and saying that their source had no right to sell to them. The lawsuit came shortly after alleging that his team informed TMZ about his rights and they completely violated them. The fact that TMZ posted the video even though their videographer refused to sign documents confirming rights or ownership is the legal controversy at stake. The videographer released a written statement telling them not to post the video because he did not own nor have permission. TMZ continued to post the video. Leto is seeking disgorgement of profits, or alternatively actual and statutory damages for copyright infringement, and profits, and a court order impounding the footage. The case is still currently in litigation. TMZ has yet to respond with a comment.
In my opinion this is a good example of where loopholes can form when it comes to copyrights or IP. In today’s age, it is difficult to stop others from recording you and releasing the footage, especially for monies. I learned that it is important to protect yourself from trolls whether online or in person. Organizations like TMZ live for this sort of controversy and while it would be nice to see them take responsibility for this situation, I don’t think it will happen. They are equipped to handle these sorts of scandals and regardless the worst that could happen is the employee reporting for TMZ could be fired. I feel that TMZ has the monies to pay damages but the smarts to secure their position and ensure this information is not released to the public. Unfortunately for Jared Leto, the damage is done. Although he attempted to vindicate himself by saying how much he adores Taylor Swift, lets be clear---you can’t take harsh words said in the comfort of your home away. The real question is will this set a precedence of unwarranted recordings being sold to satire sites?
University of Virginia Vs. Rolling Stones Magazine
Lastly, to cover this segment of legal controversy in entertainment I will discuss the January 20, 2016 article, written by Charly Himmel.
Similar to the last article this case deals with character defamation. Rolling Stones Magazine is at the center of a lawsuit about an article leading to another case of a woman being gang-raped on the University of Virginia college campus. The associated dean is suing Rolling Stones because the case wrote about in the magazine had been closed in 2012, but the reporter at the magazine re-opened the wound in 2014. The woman in the alleged crime was said to be a liar and only sought attention. The issue was thrown out and should have been sealed. The judge has been asked to place a gag on “Jackie” to stop all communications between her and Rolling Stone Magazine employees. The case is being investigated and hasn’t led to any formal litigation.
In my opinion this is a tricky situation, however the responsibility is on Rolling Stones for reporting such an old story. The journalist and editor could have been much more thorough in researching their sourced materials. It gets tricky dealing with sensitive legal controversies, especially when you’re not dealing with your equal counterpart within the entertainment industry.

Would you buy you?
Nothing is more frightening than thinking about what others think about you. At least, that is my sentiment. I have always been a confident person with the gift of gab, but is that enough? In the entertainment industry, there are many doing the same thing---eluding self-confidence and great propositions.
After this month’s course in management, I learned that whether you are managing a product, person or business the idea is to understand who really wants what it’s offering. The good news is that more tools and resources are becoming available to manage who and what your audience likes and looks like. As a manager, specifically artist manager, there are many tasks to handle simultaneously. One thing is sure, we can’t drop the ball in any area or it throws off the entire project. It is important to keep in mind that you aren’t doing it for you, not even for your artist, but rather it is for your artist's audience. Asking if they would buy you? Your brand? Why? Where? are just a few preliminary questions to getting started in the right direction. The cool thing is there are companies like GumRoad that helps carve out and explain the metrics in terms we can understand and utilize. I have gained more of a confidence after this course because of the resources professor Winn made available and the course assignments. Needless to say, there’s work to be done. The road doesn’t end or begin here, but here is where I found a clean map that marks the spot. Fullsail is a blessing in more ways than I could’ve imagined. I was thrown into the position as an artist manager and now I can really hone in to grind the heck out of my gears...lol

Wow. Technology surely moves quickly. At the beginning of the year all new MacBooks included USB plugs... sadly no CD-rom but now NO USB. Does anyone know the real meaning of this?

PSA: So I don’t know if you guys own a new Macbook but there is this really annoying feature where there are no USB slots which is super not helpful at all. I just found this handy solution though and its relatively cheap for what it does!

New Places Changing Faces
The beginning is often disguised as the end. There are many challenges that develop character and strength. Much like building & managing a brand, the experiences often determine the direction. Throughout the course I’ve learned to balance personal life & grow my professional life.
It is different living in Michigan. The opportunities seem a bit far from reality & it causes a mental shift. I’ve been discourage in my professional life, yet I have found so much joy and inspiration in my personal life. I hadn’t been one to allow love to come between my career goals.Being married is amazing. It’s just I moved to Michigan to be with my husband. We needed to be together to build, but I’ve lived in Los Angeles for so long. I was comfortable being so close to the entertainment world. I didn’t realize I may had taken the accessibility for granted.
A brand today represents who a person is, what they do & how they live. I have posed many questions to reflect upon the idea-- it’s caused a bit of a mental frenzy but throughout this program I hope to gain more confidence, information & resources to be successful regardless of the location I begin.

Daniel Levitin: How to stay calm
Initially, I assumed that Daniel would deliver an ideal way to handle stress through meditation. I chose this particular video because in relation to the entertainment industry, stress can become a normal emotion. In terms, of entertainment industry, there are so many scenarios that can occur which will cause stress. Ironically, I learned much about the scientific effects of stress on the brain and how it causes us to act out of character. Daniel speaks aggressively about the ability to know when you may be placed in a stressful position. He is a scientist and uses the analogies of medication. There are always side effects to attempting to fix a problem. If we are not conscious of what we are taking into our systems, mentally and physically, we tend to fall into a realm of stress. It will cause our minds to be “cloudy” (Levitin, 2015). According to Daniel, cloudy thinking comes from the release of cortisol that directly causes our thinking to shift. The shift is similar to the “fight or flight” method. We tend to react irrationally without considering the consequences of our actions.
As this relates to entertainment, I am interested in the business of public relations and preserving the necessary ability to overcome obstacles. One may assume that you must first be in a crisis to manage the outcome, however after watching this Ted Talk, it can be noted that the ability to predict the presence of a problem before it may occur will save time and energy. Thus, it will relieve and/or prevent high levels of stress, if any at all.
Daniel presented statistical evidence shown in science and medicine that allowed myself to relate in matters of the way I approach both personal and professional stressors.
I recommend this speech for all individuals.
