okay so this would be slightly post-canon i think, if im doing my math correctly. but. i was thinking: how would aftg characters have reacted to early dnp?

my thoughts:

- nicky would’ve been the only fox who liked both dan and phil. i think he’d find comfort in the easy entertainment and general ~queer vibes~

- andrew would’ve hated both dan and phil, but def edge-lord dan significantly more. i think he’d like dan in his more recent era tho.

- neil would probs dislike dan. i think he’d like phil in small doses, more so if someone else is showing him the video.

- jeremy would def love phil. i think he’d dislike edge-lord dan, but i also know early 2000s dan’s humor was ~just how it was back then~

- jean would hate dan, maybe secretly like phil? i feel like phil is close enough to jeremy that jean couldn’t outright hate him. he would probably vibe w current era dan tho.

since nora made the twinyards mf five feet zero inches tall, here are some things that would be true for them:

- if they were to shop at a store like american eagle, they’d get their jeans in the “short” or “extra short” variety

- if they want to make eye contact with someone they’re standing in front of, they have to tilt their heads up nearly 100% of the time

- cars’ sun visors block the sun from their foreheads, not their eyes

- similarly, headrests mostly just exist for the tops of their heads

- they can’t see over the aisles in certain stores (e.g. CVS). most stores become a maze after entry

- they have to go on their tippy-toes in most kitchens to reach essential items (e.g plates and bowls) if the cabinets aren’t at ground level (lol), and they def can’t reach the back of the refrigerator/freezer’s top shelf without considerable effort

- similarly, they def have their own strategies for getting groceries off the top shelves without asking for help. it probably involves pushing stuff around, knocking things down, and then fleeing the scene (tho andrew probs does so leisurely)

- it is surprisingly easy to guesstimate how tall/wide something is by guessing how many minyards long it is. 5 is a very useful number

- the tops of their heads are at the perfect elbow-rest height for many people… do with that info what you will

- they have to use a step stool or let their legs dangle in the air to unload a top-load washing machine

- they can stand up at their seat in an airplane without ducking

- they’re at least ~1.5ft shorter than the average door

and my favorite:

- sometimes their feet don’t touch the floor when they sit on toilets. sometimes just their toes reach the ground. their feet definitely don’t touch the floor when they sit on buses/trains

(i just think it’s really funny to picture an angry andrew sitting on the toilet with his feet dangling an inch off the ground)

something i haven’t seen people talk about online that i think about constantly: nora said she spent a significant amount of time removing a subplot from tsc2 to put in tsc3. “the golden raven” was SO full of plot. what on earth could this subplot have been?!?! what is awaiting us in book three?!?!?! mafia shit?? i worry!!

one thing i’m not seeing much of in the “jeremy uses sex as self-harm” conversation is that, i think, there’s some strategy on his part as to when and with whom he has sex. he has sex to distract himself from his inner turmoil, to chase the high that hooking up brings him. and i was thinking, okay, that tracks, but why not hook up with someone nicer? and i’ve thought of two core reasons:

1. he goes to people he knows will say yes

2. he goes to people he knows will say yes regardless of his well-being and who will not ask him what’s wrong/try to check in on him

jeremy does not want to confront his mental health struggles in general, but especially not in the moment of a crisis. while not the same, we know neil dissociated so hard at evermore that he didn’t even know how he got back home. jeremy, however, continuously forcefully rips his thoughts away from unpacking his relationship with his family. sex is one of the main ways he does this! so for there to be a possibility of a hook up saying “i won’t do this with you while you’re so worked up” or “what’s going on? talk to me” is far too scary a risk for him to even consider taking in his moments of weakness. he just wants to hook up with someone who will use his body like a means to an end. he wants to feel pleasure, numb the pain, and leave. he has a list of people who will say yes to him 10/10 times, regardless of how he’s doing. why find anyone new to screw around with? jeremy’s probably thinking, “does it even matter how he treats me if i just want to feel good physically? it’s not like he’s my boyfriend?”

do i think some of the sex stuff is self-harm because he actively seeks out people who mistreat him? for sure. but i think a lot of this is part of an elaborate strategy to avoid confronting his feelings.

personally very interested to see where jean might fit into this dynamic.

wake up babe it's thinking about jeanneil hours. thinking about them being "misplaced forever partners". thinking about neil being jean's "broken promise". thinking about those miserable two weeks in evermore and jean dragging neil back to his feet every time he fell. thinking about jean having to hold neil down and witness neil go through the same traumas he had all these years. thinking about jean losing control which was maybe why riko didn't actually kill neil that night. thinking about jean working dye into a half-conscious neil's hair. thinking about jean telling neil "you shouldn't have come here". thinking about what jean suffered after neil got inked with his rightful number. thinking about the "unexpected rush of anger" neil felt when he saw what riko had done to jean. thinking about "of course it'd be you, you tedious malcontent" and "good morning to you too". thinking about jean watching riko take a swing for neil on tv and just thinking, run. thinking about neil and jean being the same "property" in riko's eyes. thinking about "pop and he was gone. how easily these monsters die in the end". thinking about jean reaching blindly and catching hold of the hem of neil's jeans. thinking about "neil. it was a good game" and the smile that jean could hear when neil replied, "yes. it was, wasn't it?". thinking about the narration change from nathaniel to neil. thinking about jean noticing andreil immediately but never mentioning it because "nathaniel was his broken promise; neil's life was none of his business". thinking about neil connecting the dots about grayson. thinking about neil parking the car and saying with urgency, "jean. i'm sorry." when jean finds out his family is going to take the heat. thinking about neil ordering a hit on grayson and telling jean, "lock your door tonight if it will help, but grayson will never bother you again". thinking about neil taking the phone from jean and saying, "i've got him, coach". thinking about neil asking jean what he needs and planning an escape route so he can grieve in private. thinking about them murmuring to each other in french in the back of the police car. thinking about "chances of them understanding french?" "none. they're american." "hey." "you barely count. don't waste your time feigning offence". thinking about "jean's french. he brings out the violence in people every time he opens his mouth". thinking about neil encouraging jean to exercise his freedom and live his own life. thinking about "so was elodie". thinking about jean echoing neil's words after grayson's death. thinking about "you do not have to trust him. i do." and then ten seconds later, "that ill-bred child is not my friend". thinking about jean trying to snatch the cigarettes out of andrew's hand and saying, "you were barely fast enough to save him last time. the next time someone takes a swing at him, you and your brisket lungs will have to watch him die. i wouldn’t have GIVEN HIM TO YOU if i’d known you would just throw him away so carelessly." thinking about jean calling neil and neil actually picking up. thinking about neil saying bringing up jean's broken ribs in an interview and jean calling him a "rancid menace". thinking about jean watching neil take a hit and holding his own ribs because he remembers how it felt. thinking about jean with his hands to the tv screen as he watched neil on the floor. thinking about neil's voice in jean's head at the end of the book, "the rules have changed".

can i say something controversial

i read trc for the first time last year, and i didn’t like adam in it! same w the dreamers trilogy. and it genuinely makes me think i read the books wrong or something, because everyone loves him here! i’ll have to reread the series, but it’ll take forever bc i want to read some new books first and i don’t own the series :/

every once in a while i see someone wildly mischaracterize adam parrish or any of the gangsey and all i can do is just suck in a breath and clench my fist. but whatever i dont even care pfftt

Love that once Jeremy puts his foot down, absolutely no one argues with him.

Lucas making a disrespectful comment at the beach? Jeremy calmly demanded an elaboration. What he got was an apology.

Kevin telling Jeremy to go ahead and give him and Jean a minute, but it was clear they were hiding something? Jeremy demanded an answer without raising his voice or hand.

Cat starting to bring up Jean’s little sister while he’s telling the group his truths? Jeremy shut her down “in a tone that would brook no argument.” Even Cat hushed immediately.

That asshole reporter showing up at the house wanting to question Jean? Jeremy was polite but all the same “You’re not going to talk to him tonight.” The man didn’t exactly heed Jeremy’s words, but he changed topics.

It is hot as fuck when Jeremy asserts himself and demands respect.
