No.6: Happy Birthday
“And then the princess opened the third gift. Out popped her prince! “This was the best birthday yet!” She cried throwing her arms around him. Then they rode off happily into the sunset.” Shion closed the book.
“Did you like that one Karan?” The little girl nodded. “Good.” Shion smiled beaming with pride.
“Shion!” Nezumi called to him from the stairwell.
“Oh! Looks like our time is up Karan. I’ll walk you home.” The little girl took his hand.
“Hey Shion,” Karan said as they descended the hillside.
“Hmm?”
“Whens your birthday?”
“My..birthday?” Shion hadn’t thought about his birthday in years. His mind shot back to that stormy evening when the pitiful little boy stood in his opened window. The day was never the same after that night.
“My birthday is in the winter time.” Shion smiled generously.
Karan’s face lit up. “So is mine!” She smiled and waved as she ran off towards her home.
Shion turned and trudged back up the hill.
Nezumi handed him a bowl of soup. Shion stared down into the bowl of creamy vegetables.
“Aren’t you going to eat?” Nezumi asked slurping up the scalding liquid.
“Oh..” Shion brought the bowl of soup to his lips.
“Wait Shion! It’s still--”
“Ah!” Shion jerked his head away. The soup burnt his lip.
Nezumi took the bowl from Shion’s hand and handed him a pitcher of water. “Geez, you’re even further away than usual aren’t you?” Shion touched his lip gingerly.
“Sorry...I was just…”
“Eat your soup.” Nezumi swallowed the last of his bowl and exchanged it for a book.
Yes..maybe it’s better that I don’t ask right now.
Shion finished his soup in silence.
Nezumi felt Shion’s gaze bore into him from across the room. He set down his book and sighed.
“What is it?”
Shion jumped.
“What is what…?”
“You’ve been staring at me for fifteen minutes. Do I have something on my face?”
“Sorry... Shion stared down into his lap. “But I was just wondering…”
“Spit it out.”
“When is your birthday?”
Nezumi was silent. He picked up his book again. “What a stupid question.”
“Why is it stupid? I want to know!”
Nezumi was silent.
“Are you mad that I asked you another personal question?”
Nezumi massaged his temple.
“No.” He let his hand fall in his lap and looked up at Shion’s disappointed face. “I just don’t know when it is.”
“You don’t know when your birthday is?” Shion’s surprised face bore into Nezumi again.
“No..Is that so uncommon?” Nezumi turned up his nose.
“Well…” In No.6 it is. Shion restrained himself.
Shion knelt down and propped his elbows up on the mattress.
“Well you know what I think?” Shion beamed.
“You’re thinking now?” Nezumi rolled his eyes.
“I think we should just give you a birthday!”
“What?!”
“Yeah! Hm lets see...it’ll have to be the right date to match your personality…” Ignoring Nezumi’s protests, Shion paced the room babbling on about the details.
“Ah!” Shion stopped. “I know the perfect date!”
Nezumi, having long ago given up protesting, looked up from his book.
“November 13!”
“Nov--but that’s in three days!”
“Yup! I’ll have to get planning won’t I?”
Nezumi sighed and rolled his eyes. “Fine. Just don’t go overboard.”
Shion grinned and nodded and bounded off towards the bath.
Nezumi stared up at the ceiling. Birthday? He’d never thought about his birthday before. What did the date he was born matter? As long as he was surviving now...That is what’s important.
Come to think of it...had he ever asked Shion about his birthday? That idiot’s bound to know his.
What did people even do on birthdays?
Shion stirred next to him. Geez, what’s with this kid?! Look at the way he sleeps… Shion slept on his back, his arms raised slightly above his head. Completely open and exposed.
The buttons on Shion’s shirt were buttoned lower that usual. It must’ve slipped open. Nezumi reached to button it up. The red scar on his chest peaked through the white fabric. Shion stirred.
Gently Nezumi traced the scar with his finger. Its was smooth and taught, almost flush with his pale skin.
“Ne..zu…” Nezumi jerked his hand away quickly. Shion’s eyes were still closed. “Ha...ppy..Bir….” His voice trailed off.
Nezumi curled up and pulled the covers over his head.
What did people do on birthdays?
“First I have to find Nezumi a gift!” Shion hummed to himself and he sauntered through the market looking at all the stores.
What would Nezumi want? It would have to be something functional. Nezumi wouldn’t want something he couldn’t use, that much he knew.
It was getting dark and Shion knew Nezumi would be coming home soon to an empty house. He was about to give up for the day when he saw it.
It’s perfect! It’s not exactly functional...but he’ll like it right?
Shion rushed from the market back towards the house.
Nezumi hadn’t seen Shion all day. He had left early in the morning, even before Nezumi usually leaves. Nezumi had rehearsal all day and was eager to come home to a warm meal. He unlocked the door to find that the stove had not been lit and the room was empty. He’s not home? Nezumi tossed his scarf up on the piano, lit the burner and started peeling some leftover potatoes. He stood suddenly.
What if something happened to him? Should he go out looking? Nezumi reached for his scarf but paused.
No..no he’s fine. He can take care of himself. Besides its none of my concern if he doesn’t come back.
Nezumi started chopping the carrots. The knife slipped from his hand.
What if he never comes back? What if he chose No.6 over him..? Nezumi shook his head violently and reached to pick up the knife.
What if he was alone again?
An image of Shion stabbed and bleeding in an alleyway surged through his head. He dropped the vegetables and threw on his coat and scarf. He threw open the door.
An out of breath Shion stood hunched over his knees.
“Sorry!...I’m late!” Shion panted. “I lost track of time in the market…”
Nezumi opened his mouth to yell at him but closed it and moved aside to let him through. Shion shook off his coat and started chopping the vegetables.
“Sorry for the late dinner. I’ll finish up. You go take a bath.” He smiled happily, still slightly out of breath.
Shion left early in the morning again. Nezumi didn’t have rehearsal today. What would he do all day without Shion pestering him? Nezumi lept out of bed. What would he do?? What kind of nonsense was that??
Irritated at his own thoughts Nezumi threw his scarf around his neck and walked briskly towards Inukashi’s hotel.
“Ne. Zu. Mi.” A voice lingered in the dank room.
“Come out, Inukashi.”
“Cold as ever aren’t you? What? No time for games, Eve?”
Nezumi scowled as Inukashi stepped out of the shadows.
“Have you seen that airhead today?”
“Aww has the owner lost his little pet?”
Nezumi glared.
“He came by this morning. Saying something about planning something special. Said I wasn’t supposed to say anything to you but,” Inukashi crossed his arms and turned up his chin. “It’s no concern of mine what he goes around doing.” A dog came and rubbed against his leg.
Nezumi turned and walked briskly towards the door.
“Oh yeah,”
Nezumi stopped.
“And he was asking some dumb questions like, when my birthday was or something like that.” Inukashi rolled his eyes and retreated into the shadows.
That idiot.
Nezumi couldn’t sit still. He kept rereading the same sentence as Shion scurried around the room doing this and that.
“Shion.” Nezumi called. Shion dropped what he was doing immediately.
“Yes?” He beamed.
“Shion are you still going on about this birthday thing?”
“Of course,” He nodded happily. “Birthdays are important. And they only happen once a year. We have to celebra--”
“What’s so important about the day I was born? All I know is that I’m here now and I’m breathing.”
“Well, that’s---”
“Just shut it! Don’t bother with this nonsense anymore. It's a waste of time.” Nezumi closed his book and crossed the room. “I’m going to take a bath.”
Shion clasped his hands together and pressed them to his chest. I guess he’s right...but… Shion sniffed and wiped his eyes. Why did it still hurt?
Nezumi awoke to find Shion sleeping with his back facing him. This was the first time hadn’t woken up to Shion’s peaceful face. It felt cold.
He carefully slipped out of the covers and quietly opened the door.
Shion lifted his head. He didn’t want to face Nezumi. He felt stupid for having thought this was something Nezumi would like. Shion pulled the gift he’d bought for Nezumi from its hiding place and set it out on the table. I guess I’ll go return this today. He shivered in the morning chill and went to go take a bath.
Nezumi was halfway down the slope when he felt the lightness of his pocket. He felt around. He’d left his pocket knife. Where was it again? Nezumi turned on his heels and marched back to the underground room.
He opened the door. Shion was nowhere to be found but on the table lay a small package. A small piece of folded paper was stuck to the top of it. He picked up the package. It was sturdy but light. He opened the paper.
To Nezumi, On your first birthday.
Shion’s neat handwriting was slightly smudged.
Dammit, Shion.
He opened the package and raced out of the door.
Nezumi burst into Rikiga’s apartment.
“Eve?!” Shouted Rikiga as a half naked woman scurried past Nezumi.
“What the hell, Eve! Knock first!”
“Rikiga,” Nezumi’s face grew dark. “I need information.”
Rikiga sat up promptly.
“What happened?”
“I need to know.” Nezumi clenched his fist.
“What do people do on their birthday’s in No.6.”
Rikiga stared. Nezumi’s expression was unchanging.
Rikiga burst out laughing.
“That’s all?!” He clenched his stomach. “I was wondering what was going on. Shion came running to me asking if i could get him supplies.” His eyes started watering. “I didn’t think it was something like this!”
Nezumi stood and made for the door.
“I don’t need this. I’ll figure it out on my own.”
The laughing faded. “Wait, wait Eve.” Rikiga stifled a giggle. “Just get him a gift. That airhead will be happy with anything as long as it’s from you.”
A gift? Nezumi turned and walked out of the door towards the market. He had never gotten anyone a gift before.
Nezumi opened the door to the underground room. It was late and Shion was still nowhere to be found. The stove was lit and there was a warm pot of soup on the burner.
Nezumi ascended the stairs looking around. Where was Shion?
He walked up the hill towards where Shion always sat to look out at the view. He saw a tuft of white hair peek out from behind a tree.
“Shion.”
Shion jumped and reached up to his face wiping his eyes.
He turned towards Nezumi, his eyes wide. His wet eyelashes sparkled and made them seem even bigger. “Nezumi!” he sniffed and forced a smile. He looked down to his lap. “Sorry I was just--” Something warm and soft wrapped around his neck. He looked down. A fuzzy pink scarf cuddled his shoulders. Nezumi sat down next to him resting an arm on one knee. The cuff of his jacket raised slightly revealing his wrist.
“What is this?” Shion asked looking up. Nezumi averted his gaze.
“It’s supposed to get colder soon and you didn’t have one. Besides I’m just repaying a debt.”
Shion glanced down at Nezumi’s wrist. A small metal flower dangled from a thin leather strap.
“How did you?!”
“You left it out for me didn’t you?” Nezumi rested his chin on his hand and hid his face further. Shion had totally forgotten about it.
Shion smiled. He buried his face in the scarf.
“Thank you.”
Nezumi glanced over at Shion.
“Wipe that stupid look of your face.” He tousled Shion’s hair and stood up. He extended a hand.
“Let’s go in.”
Despite his words Nezumi’s expression was kind. Shion took his hand.
Nezumi walked on in silence.
“It’s an aster flower right?” His voice was hushed.
“Hm?” Shion looked up from the scarf.
“The charm. It’s an aster. Like your name?”
“Oh..” Shion blushed. “Yeah..I just thought...”
Nezumi was silent.
“You know Nezumi...” The scarf was so soft. It made him feel warm inside. “You wouldn’t have had to give me anything for my birthday. You’re the best gift I’ve ever received.”
Nezumi glanced back at him. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“That day four years ago...” He paused. “The day of the hurricane...That day was my birthday.” Shion stopped walking. “You were the best gift I’ve ever received.”
Nezumi turned suddenly and pulled Shion into him pressing their lips together. Nezumi’s breath warmed Shion’s frost nipped nose. His arms wrapped around Shion’s waist and neck. He couldn’t break free if he wanted to.
“Happy Birthday,” Nezumi whispered pressing his forehead to Shion’s.
“Happy Birthday.”

No.6: Drink Up
“Rikiga!” Nezumi barked. “I told you to take care of him!”
Shion was rolling around on the floor of Rikiga’s apartment, his sweater tied around his head still clutching an empty liquor bottle.
“He said he wanted to try it..” Rikiga scratched his head, smiling nervously. “I didn’t think he was such a lightweight…”
“Nezumi?!” Shion suddenly sat up. “Nezumi, is that you? I hear your voice!” The sweater had slid down covering his eyes. “Wheeere aaareee yoooou??” He hiccupped and giggled crawling on all fours towards Nezumi. Nezumi cringed in disgust. He was more embarrased for Shion than anything.
Suddenly Shion pounced on Nezumi’s leg. “Gotcha!” He looked up and pushed the sweater off of his eyes. His cheeks were rosy and he reeked of strong alcohol.
“Just how much did he drink?!” Nezumi said pushing the inebriated Shion away as he started to climb up his leg.
Rikiga pointed to the living room table.
“Three bottles?! Why didn’t--Ack! Shion you’re choking me.--Why didn’t you stop him?! ” Shion was hanging off Nezumi’s neck.
“Hey don’t look at me!” Rikiga shouted back. “He’s the one who got himself drunk.”
“But you know how---” Nezumi paused.
“What are you doing Shion.” Shion wrapped his arms around Nezumi tighter and stared up at him. “Nezumi…Nezumi...Nezumi...” Shion was whispering his name over and over.
Suddenly Shion burst out into tears. “I missed you so muuuuch!” Snot came dripping from his nose as wet sobs tumbled from his mouth. “I missed yooooouu!” He whined still clutching the empty bottle.
“Okay Shion, let’s go.” Nezumi dragged the still sobbing boy from the apartment shooting a cold glare at Rikiga.
“Brrrr! It’s freezing out here.” Shion sniffed and brought his arms in close. It was snowing.
“Well put your sweater on then.” Nezumi reached up to take the sweater from Shion’s head.
“NOOOOOOO!!” He jerked away from Nezumi and clutched at the sweater.
Nezumi sighed, already exasperated and swearing to never let Shion near another alcoholic beverage again.
“Well then I guess you’re just going to be cold until we get home.”
Shion sniffed. His eyes filled with tears again.
Nezumi let out a short burst of air and massaged his temples. “Fine.” He unraveled the super fiber scarf and gestured for Shion to come.
Shion looked at him distrustfully.
“Well, do you want it, or not?” Nezumi barked. Shion nodded profusely. “Then…” Nezumi beckoned.
Shion stumbled over to Nezumi and huddled against him. Nezumi wrapped the scarf around him and continued through the snow.
Shion nearly fell through the door. He collapsed on the sofa. The sweater fell to the floor.
“Nezuuumiiii…” he whined face down into the cushion. Nezumi’s eyelid twitched in irritation. He tossed the scarf on the piano and bent to light the wood stove.
“What.”
“I don’t feel so goood..” Shion sat up and rubbed his eyes.
Like a child.
“Well hold on a minute. I’ll make some soup.”
Nezumi sat on the couch next to him cutting up vegetables for Macbeth soup. Shion leaned on his shoulder and hiccupped loudly.
His belly full of soup, Shion smiled and laid back on the couch.
“You satisfied?” Nezumi picked up the bowls and placed them into a bucket of water. “Any more requests Your Highness?” He strode gracefully over to the couch.
“Yes, just one more.” Shion waved for him to come closer. Nezumi snorted, leaning down to listen to Shion’s fading voice.
A hand grabbed Nezumi’s collar and yanked him, hard. Their lips met. The smell of alcohol made Nezumi feel dizzy. He felt drunk just being near Shion. But still..he closed his eyes.
Shion released his collar and relaxed into the sofa. “A Goodnight Kiss…” and with that he was out.
What is this? It’s warm. It’s cradling me with warmth. Shion opened his eyes. What is this in front of me? Shion reached out. A collar bone...a neck and a chin. Lips. Recognition flashed in Shion’s mind. He looked up. Nezumi’s peaceful sleeping face was inches - no, millimeters - from his. Shion held his hands to his chest and followed the curve of Nezumi’s shoulder. His arm draped around Shion’s waist, holding him close. Shion held his breath. He carefully tried to lift Nezumi’s arm but Nezumi pulled him closer. His eyes opened slightly.
“Where do you think you’re going?”
“I, uhm,..” Shion stammered.
“Nowhere. Heater’s don’t move.” Nezumi closed his eyes and nestled his face into Shion’s hair.
“Heaters?”
“The stove went out last night so you got up and came over here ‘Nezumi pleeeasseee, i’m freeeeezing,’ ” Shion assumed that was supposed to be him begging. “I couldn’t just turn away a poor shivering puppy. So you agreed to be my personal heater.”
“Well surely you don’t need me now.” Shion tried to break free but Nezumi’s hold tightened until their foreheads were touching.
“Nezumi! You’re burning up! You have a fever!”
Nezumi dragged Shion up on top of him. His legs fell to the sides, straddling Nezumi’s hips.
“Shhh...heaters don’t talk either.”
Nezumi drifted off to sleep.
The two awoke to the sound of mice cheeping. The mice had climbed up onto Shion’s back to wake them up. Shion was still piled on top of Nezumi who reached up to rub his eye.
“How’s your fever?” Shion placed a hand on Nezumi’s forehead.
“Fever? I’m fine. What are you doing on top of me?” He pushed Shion’s hand away. “Did you get lonely?” Nezumi smirked.
“No, just the opposite. You wouldn’t me go.” Shion sat up.
“Sorry Shion but you’re no good at lying.”
“I’m not lying! You mean you don’t remember?” Shion reached to touch his forehead but Nezumi grabbed his wrist.
“All I remember is your drunk self kissing me then falling asleep on my sofa.”
“Drunk?!” Shion exclaimed.“Did you get me drunk and take advantage of me?!” Shion covered his chest, blushing bright red.
“Of course not, idiot. You got yourself drunk at Rikiga’s. You don’t remember?”
Nezumi tossed him off with ease and moved to stand up.
“Wait Nezumi you should rest!” Shion moved after him.
“Ack!” They both doubled over in pain. “My head!”
Shion sat back down on the bed, his head between his knees. “So I did get drunk…”
“Sick?!” Nezumi exclaimed. “I don’t get sick!” He sneezed.
Shion climbed back into bed and lifted the covers, beckoning for Nezumi to come.
Nezumi trudged to the bed, still holding his aching head.
“Maybe...just a little bit longer.”
Nezumi wrapped his arm around Shion and the two promptly fell asleep.

No.6: Education
Nezumi and Shion sat in the underground room. The mice flitted about on the floor looking for crumbs. Nezumi sat up on the bed reading a book while Shion was busy organizing the piles of books on the floor.
“Nezumi,” Shion said. Nezumi didn’t look up.
“Hey, Nezumi,”
He sighed deeply.
“What.” He snapped, glaring irritably at Shion who looked down sheepishly.
“Sorry..”
“If you’re really sorry don’t bother me again.” Nezumi looked back down at his book.
Desperate to keep his attention Shion tried to think of something to say.
“Wait!...Nezumi, I have a question…” His voice trailed off.
He looked up at Shion and closed the book, one finger holding his place.
Shion waited for an answer.
“Well?” Nezumi spat.
Shion looked around nervously.
“I was just wondering...Where did you get all these books from?” He really wanted to know. “It’s just..there must be hundreds of them. It must’ve taken a really long time to collect so many..I think it’s really amazing. You said you’d read all of them right? I don’t know if I read nearly so many even in the gifted program in No.---”
“You going to keep babbling on or do you want me to answer your question?”
Shion closed his lips tightly.
“I just picked them up here and there.” Nezumi looked around the room at the towers of books. “Every now and then you can come across them in the market. Someone’s throwing it away or selling them by the box. They’re not exactly useful around here. Can’t eat books and no one’s going to read them so...people just get rid of them.”
Shion ran his hand over the fabric cover of an old untitled book.
“I see…” He mumbled to himself.
“Can I go back to my book? Or does His Majesty require anything more?” Nezumi retorted.
Shion shook his head.
He lifted the cover of the book. It looked like a textbook. Math formulas riddled the pages, all things Shion recognized from his studies but it was still missing a lot of information. The Pythagorean Theorem is in here but the Quasar Energy Theorem isn’t? “Odd,” Shion mumbled to himself.
“Nezumi,”
Nezumi sighed heavily. God doesn’t this kid ever shut up?
“Hey Nezumi, do they have schools here in the West Block?”
“What?!”
Nezumi sat up abruptly slamming his book down on the table next to him.
“Do they have schools here..in the West Block?” Shion repeated himself. He couldn’t think of anything about the question that would merit such a reaction.
“Do they have schools in the---Just where do you think you are?!” Nezumi shouted. “Are you delusional?! You think you’re back in that pampered palace where education is handed out to everyone?!”
“I just thought maybe---” Shion was whining. Nezumi hated that whiny voice. It was like Shion was just asking to be coddled. Like he was asking him for sympathy.
“Well you thought wrong!” Nezumi loomed over Shion. Shion clutched the open book and pressed it to his chest. “Let me tell you something little boy,” Nezumi’s eyes were cold. He knelt down bringing his face close to Shion’s. “Is an education going to help you when your mother’s whoring herself out and your brothers are so hungry they’ll eat anything that looks edible even if it’s been trampled into the dust? Is an education going to help you when the season turns and the cold starts swallowing up the weakest of the bunch?”
Shion couldn’t understand. Of course it would, right? Education was always the answer for him…
Shion looked down. “Are you talking about Karan and her brothers..? Just down the hill?”
“Just let people get on with their lives. They’re already struggling enough as it is. A math test would be the least of their worries.” Nezumi stood and turned to go back to his reading.
But what if...just what if…
Shion gasped. His face lit up with excitement.
“Nezumi! Nezumi, what if WE started a school!” Nezumi’s shoulders tensed. Involuntarily, his fingers curled into fists. “I could teach Karan and her siblings math and science and you could teach them literature and drama! Maybe they’d be able to find better jobs in the future and---”
“SHUT UP.” Nezumi’s voice echoed in the tiny room. In a flash Nezumi was at Shion’s throat. His grip was slightly looser than usual. “You think you can help these people by meddling in their lives?! The best thing for those kids is the destruction of No.6.”
“But..” Shion gasped not bothering to resist Nezumi’s iron grip.
“God you’re so fucking persistent.” Nezumi’s grip tightened. “Fine. You want an education? I’ll give you an education. Courtesy of the West Block.”
Nezumi pinned Shion’s arms up above his head with one hand. He gripped his silky white hair and yanked Shion’s head to the side.
Nezumi’s breath tickled Shion’s ears sending a tingling feeling down his spine.
“Ah..Ne..zumi..Wha--” Nezumi’s teeth sunk into Shion’s neck. “Ah! Nezumi! That hurts!”
Two fingers hooked into Shion’s mouth yanking his jaw open. He tried to protest but his words came out garbled. Nezumi pinched Shion’s tongue. “What is this thing?” Nezumi’s voice was distorted and cruel. “Always flapping about like it knows everything.” He reached a hand up Shion’s shirt and let his nails dig into the soft flesh and run down his torso. He felt Shion’s body start to shiver and grow warm.
Nezumi had long since let go of Shion’s wrists but they stayed pinned above his head. Nezumi grinned internally. Now why doesn’t he push me away?
Shion’s vision grew blurry as Nezumi continued teasing his body. He felt weaker every time he felt Nezumi’s teeth sink into him. The pain wasn’t pain anymore. His body shivered uncontrollably. What is this? Why am I feeling so...so… “Ahh..” Nezumi’s tongue traced his ear. Shion felt his resolve slipping away. He shut his eyes. A knee forced Shion’s legs apart and pressed against him. Waves of warmth radiated from the body on top of him. Nezumi’s lips pressed roughly against Shion’s, his tongue violating every corner of his mouth. “Nnh.” Shion couldn’t help it. His voice came out so whiny and pathetic but it was involuntary. Nezumi. He wanted to call his name.
A soft gentle hand caressed Nezumi’s neck. “Ne..zumi…” the voice was weak and quiet. Nezumi grabbed the hand forcefully and looked up. His heart lurched. Instantly the anger that had welled up inside him vanished. Shion… Shion’s face shined in the dimming candlelight. Tresses of silvery hair teased his forehead lightly. Shion’s big brown tear-filled eyes took the bite right out of Nezumi. His cheeks were flushed and his breathing deep and airy. Nezumi was frozen.
“Nezumi..I’m sorry...did I make you mad…?” Nezumi let go of the hand and sat back, caught in Shion’s merciless gaze. Shion rose up on his elbows.
“Nezumi?”
Why? Why is this kid..? Who IS he? Nezumi covered his face with one hand. His body contorted as he started chuckling.
“Nezumi what’s wrong? I did. I made you mad didn’t I?” Shion knelt on his knees in front him. “Nezumi!” He called again.
He broke out laughing clutching at his stomach. “Nezumi?!”
“God you’re so whiny!” Nezumi snapped back to reality. Shion sat confused and a little flustered. Only moments before Nezumi was...Shion blushed. He covered his cheeks so Nezumi wouldn’t see.
Nezumi stood. “I’m going for a walk.” He tossed his super fibre cloth over his shoulders and made for the door. He paused. Shion was still on the floor. Out of the corner of his eye he saw Shion was covering his cheeks but his ears were still burning red. He stared at Shion’s neck. Just above the red snake scar was another red mark. Nezumi knelt down and without thinking gingerly touched the bruise.
“I left a mark...I’m sorry..”
A shiver ran down Shion’s spine from Nezumi’s fingers. His back arched slightly. “Mm,” A small moan escaped Shion’s lips as the tingling ran its course. Nezumi jolted and snatched his hand away. “Sorry..” He muttered, embarrassed by his own lack of tact. “I’m leaving,” Nezumi turned to go.
Wait! Shion’s mind raced. Don’t go! I don’t want you to leave… Shion’s body moved on its own. He grasped at Nezumi’s scarf gripping the durable fabric and pulling himself into Nezumi. He pressed his forehead to Nezumi’s back. Nezumi really was taller than him...He was still shivering and his knees were weak. He let his weight fall into him. Nezumi turned.
“Shion..?” White hair tickled his chin as Shion pressed his face against Nezumi’s chest, his small hands still gripping the scarf. “Shion.” Nezumi tried to push him away, irritation welling up inside him. Then, there were those eyes. Those big, brown tear-filled eyes again. His cheeks were still flushed but he gripped the scarf so hard his knuckles were white. There was something else in his eyes this time though. Determination? Or…? Need. Nezumi cursed at himself for giving into it. He let his hands run through Shion’s hair.
Nezumi’s face was gentle. His finger traced down Shion’s jaw lifting his chin. He pressed his lips to Shion’s. This time, gently and slowly. This time he would take his time.

The Twelve houses- Dynamic & Planets
Natural Rulerships and Exaltations of planets in the houses
Your mars sign or any other planet can gather strength from being in certain houses, for instance Aries rules the first houses and Mars. If Mars is in the first house, it’s at home. At rulership. In a similar fashion, Venus is exalted in the 12th houses.
Groupings- The Three Groups
The houses are divided in three groups in which they all have a meaning and characterize together.
Angular houses- This consist of the first house, fourth house, seventh houses, and tenth house (cardinal signs)
Succedent houses- This consist of the second house, fifth house, eighth house, and eleventh house (fixed signs)

Hemispheres
Southern Hemisphere (Collective Houses)- Houses 7-12. These houses rise above the horizon (top half of chart) and are mostly have the connection with others, contrasting to the personal houses. They somehow click and intertwine with society or even one other individual. If you have many planes on this side, you may extroverted.
Northern Hemisphere (Personal Houses)- Houses 1-6. These houses fall below the horizon (bottom half of chart) and are mostly directed and concerned with the development of an individual and their identity. These houses mostly pertain to yourself. If you have many planets on this side, you may be introverted.

You like to be in control in the way that you mold your surroundings, and usually don’t ask others for help.

Planets in the Houses (General affect)
Most of this connects to mythology that is shown with one of my post I linked below for Mercury, I could write a post for each but to cut it down:
Sun- The house it is in indicates where you need to distinguish yourself. To stand out and shine, just like the way the sun does in the sky. It shows where you need to expand and develop, the house it is in shows where you’ll go through obstacles. Wherever Leo intercepts, cusps a house, or rules a house, plays a similar role. Whichever house Leo rules in your chart, will connect to the house your sun is placed in.
Pertaining to my last sentence, an example of this (which you can use to understand the rest of this article) is Will Smith who has his sun in the 3rd, with Leo ruling his first house. Maybe he shows his communicative nature to the world with his voice. That’s how he shines and built his identity (1st house) while being able to verbally express himself (3rd and creative nature of the Sun). That’s what people identify him and know him for. That’s how the other planets work as well for future reference.
Moon- The house it is in indicates the area of life where you may be sensitive and responsive towards other people, their needs and influences. It’s where we are easily affected and where your values, expectations, and standards from family come from. It’s where we go to retreat and recharge. That’s where you become the role of the mother, and look for comfort and belonging. For instance the moon in the eleventh house will show how strongly bonded you’ll be towards friends. It’s where you’re most emotional and affected; therefore also the area where your messy emotions come out. Wherever Cancer intercepts, cusps a house, or rules a house plays a similar role. Whichever house Cancer rules in your chart, will connect to the house your moon is in.
Mercury- I did a whole article/post based off the influences of Mercury here. To add, the house it is in shows where we are restless and curious. It’s where we stay externally youthful (just like Hermes). It shows where you’re adaptable and changeable, or even fickle. Something really interesting when looking at the chart of a fixed sign. It shows where we can corner ourselves or connect with others well, how we understand others and ourselves better. Wherever Gemini intercepts, cusps a house, or rules a house is where you’re restless and the area in life where you’re hard to pin down. Or even how others find you difficult to understand at times. Wherever Virgo intercepts, cusps a house, or rules a house is where you’re precise and critical. Whichever house Gemini and Virgo rules in your chart, will connect to the house your Mercury is in.
Venus- The house it is indicates the area of life where you get a sense of peace and satisfaction. It’s where we feel pleased and please others, showing our best style and consideration of others. Venus also has a dark side, so it’s also where we suffer from disappointment or where we feel obligated to do something to make ourself or the world feel more beautiful or pleasing. It’s where we may feel envy or rivalry, even where we use seduction. The placement of Venus is where suffer or go through a degree of pain in order to maintain balance or harmony when you step too far. Wherever Taurus intercepts, cusps a house, or rules a house is where we seek to fulfill desires towards appetites of food, sex, security and/or comfort. Wherever Libra intercepts, cusps a house, or rules a house is where we want to fulfill the romantic approach of love, fairness, and the good or truth in life. Whichever house Libra and Taurus rules in your chart, will connect to the house your Venus is in.
Mars- The house it is in indicates the area of life where you have a form of aggression or assertiveness. It shows where we need to take risk and and attack life. The area where we need to take our freedom, be independent and daring. The area in life where you have pent up aggression that forms into violence, heavy passion, and a sense of competitiveness. Wherever Aries intercepts, cusps a house, or rules a house plays a similar role. Perhaps Scorpio too as it’s the co-ruler of this sign but I don’t think the affect will be too profound compared to Aries, as it’s only the co-ruler. Whichever house Aries (perhaps Scorpio) rules in your chart, will connect to the house your Mars is placed in.
Jupiter- The house it is indicates the area of life where we need lots of space to grow and expand, where we want to experience life more fully and passionately. Since Jupiter does things in abundance, it’s the area of life where we sometimes overdo it. It’s where you can start something and leave the project uncompleted. If Jupiter is badly aspected, it can indicate you start something with bad judgment. It’s where you will feel safe and have positive feelings, often excelling greatly in that area of life. It doesn’t mean you won’t have a shaky road but you’ll be on your feet. The house it is in is where you’ll want to find some sort of truth. The house it is in, is the area that gives us inspiration to go on with life, to find positivity. Wherever Sagittarius intercepts, cusps a house, or rules a house plays a similar role. Perhaps even Pisces as it used to be the co-ruler of Pisces, but perhaps the affect won’t be as profound. Whichever house Sagittarius (possibly Pisces) rules in your chart, will connect to the house your Jupiter is placed in.
Saturn- Keep in mind that wherever Saturn is in, has some sort of restriction. It isn’t easy. The house it is in indicates where we restrict ourselves and don’t allow ourselves to be free, where we worry to make the wrong move. You’ll have difficulty mastering that area in your life, therefore when you do, you’ll be wise in that area of life (the house it rules). It’s where we need to grow. The house it is in is where you’ll be cautious, responsible, and tactful. Wherever Capricorn intercepts, cusps a house, or rules a house plays a similar role. Perhaps even Aquarius as it used to be the co-ruler of this sign, but perhaps the affect won’t be as profound. Whichever house Capricorn (possibly Aquarius) rules in your chart, will connect to the house your Saturn is placed in.
Uranus- The house it is in indicates where we are truly original, we don’t give intro tradition here. The code is broken. It’s where we will manifest great ideas but once put in production, we feel as if it isn’t good or does not turn out well. The house it is placed in is where we can be resentful or have never ending anger, fury. It can be bitter, because that’s the area where we blame others for our sorrow. It’s where we discover new trends and even break the rules to do so. It’s where we need truth and freedom, because we feel repressed in the house it is in. Wherever Aquarius intercepts, cusps a house, or rules a house plays a similar role. Whichever house Aquarius rules in your chart, will connect to the house your Uranus is placed in.
Neptune- The house it is in indicates where we, without meaning to, set up circumstances where we have to give up our personal wants and desires. It’s where you get a taste of heaven and perhaps where we escape for comfort. This is the place where you look for a savior or to be the savior, to be saved or to save. The house it is in is where you see something greater or higher, It’s where we feel greater. On the other hand its where you can feel confused by the illusion this planet gives. It’s where we fall apart and come back together in another way, a beautiful way. Wherever Pisces intercepts, cusps a house, or rules a house plays a similar role. Whichever house Pisces rules in your chart, will connect to the house your Neptune is placed in.
Pluto- The house it is in indicates where we have to meet and face what is rotten in us. The house where we discover our dark side and where our strong passions reside, the obsessions, lust, and every emotion Pluto touches. The dangerously good and the blissfuly bad. It’s even where our wounds or pain is. Pluto is destructive so it isn’t easy, but then later you blossom with life. It’s the area of life that we repress and shouldn’t. It’s where we gain knowledge about ourselves after being stripped down (destroyed) and then rebuild. There’s complexity and intrigue in whichever house it is in. We can obsessively protect ourselves in that house and therefore may go through unnecessary precautions to do so. By acknowledging and indulging in it other than hiding, you gain your greatest strengths. Wherever Scorpio intercepts, cusps a house, or rules a house plays a similar role. Whichever house Scorpio rules in your chart, will connect to the house your Pluto is placed in.
Keep in mind, you may have to look at multiple houses for the planet if this applies to you

Scorpio Moon
*Editor’s note: Being born under the sign of Scorpio is not the same as having a Scorpio Moon.
This is an intense, challenging place for the Moon. Emotional extremes color your life, and your inner landscape is a universe unto itself. Your psychic and intuitive powers are mighty — it’s as though you can see right through people, cutting to the heart of any matter. This gift makes you a great listener and counselor, entrusted with the deepest secrets of near-strangers. However, when it comes to showing your own vulnerability, you’re fiercely guarded. You prefer to remain a mystery, observing everyone around you but holding your own cards close to your chest. Scorpio rules intense bonding, so when you let someone in, it’s for life. Separations and breakups are excruciating, and can feel like an actual death. For this reason, you remain friends with your exes; it’s simply too painful to lose someone from your life. When slighted, you can be vengeful and cutting, a formidable opponent. You may eventually forgive, but you never forget. Your photographic memory is powerful, and childhood memories are as fresh as though they happened yesterday. Strong sexual chemistry is a must, as is a mate who respects your need for privacy and ironclad confidentiality. Your instincts are rarely wrong; trust them.

Forces of Nature
Love is possibly the strongest force existing in nature.
It can make you feel fresh and new and eternal like grapes from a vine
h o w e v e r
This love sours with age
It can be deep rumbling and passionate
but soon the HEAT builds and explodes and burns everything
around it.
It could be f r e e and W i L d and unTETHERED
but someday you’ll look Down from those C L O U D S
,weary and exhausted,
and find you have nowhere to rest your feet.
I want a love that intoxicates.
With the first subtle scent of a n t i c i p a t i o n
A love that keeps you high in the sky in quality
but Grounds you with a Deep, Rich taste.
A love more like a wine
That only gets better with age.

Elk Dream
Last night I dreamt that I was an elk. I had a baby elk with me and a little hedgehog friend. I didn’t understand why I was an elk and the hedgehog told me because “You are. This is you, no matter what you do. this is what you’re all about.” I felt at ease with that thought but I still didn’t really understand it. We wandered around in a bright cheerful almost cartoon-ish forest eating sweet moss. It was pleasant...but there was an air of uncertainty and doubt.
