Happy New Year or something like that! What exactly do you say when you’ve not been posting and pretty much learning lines or auditioning? Speaking of—I’m sharing shots I was forced to take as part of today’s send us your current look (FULL body photos) we need to send info to production request. It was followed by...”please take with good natural lighting to show skin tone.” Yeah well THIS is as good as it got. When the pandemic began I was 5’ 11 1/2-size 4. Nearly a year in...well let’s just say...I’m still the same height! Though technically the jeans are my “pre-pandemic” size I’ve put on like 10 lbs....ummmmm....I realize I need to lose them. The upside? The role was supposed to be filled by someone size 12-18. Happy Friday!

The Value of Hard Work

It hasn’t happened yet but it WILL— I’ve said that to myself many times over the years and it works. I’m 7 weeks into rehearsing for what began as an Off-Broadway play that the pandemic has put into Zoom status. Not a bad thing at all; the weeks and weeks of practicing are paying off and I’m ready! Stay tuned for an invite— would love to have you in the viewing audience.

TONIGHT: Visible Mars

It’s 5:19 am and by no means did I plan on documenting -yet again- what it is I find in the early morning sky but it’s happening. I can see Mars! It’s been about a half hour now that he’s been standing guard outside of my bedroom window (see photo above) he’s protecting me I guess. It was last week he showed up along with the Full Moon that I mistook him for Venus. This morning’s sighting actually began last night at about 9:10 pm, as always from my bedroom window. Mars was clearly visible and super bright along with a twinkling and comparably fading Venus. Research led me to a CNN article posted about 7 hours prior which explains that on October 6th TONIGHT Mars is Closer to Earth in October than it will be for Another 15 Years.

My suggestion is to enjoy it either by naked eye, telescope or as a friend suggested “binoculars”. The next Mars “occurrence” is on October 13th and is called Mars Opposition, It’s when Mars will be on the other side of the Earth from the sun. I’ve decided I’m now into this for the long haul. Apologies, I won’t be posting here on Mars Oppostion, I pretty much stay in my lane when it comes to writing—though this has by far been my best discovery yet!

TONIGHT: Harvest Moon 2020

It’s 5:34 am and I’m FULLY awake! It was 40 minutes ago that I turned over with the still half asleep thought “those people need to turn off their lamp this time! ...it’s super bright tonight.” Apparently, the super bright hue that interrupted my sleep was not the lamp light my neighbors across the courtyard keep on all night, every night last night it was off— it was the moon and it was BEAUTIFUL.

Seriously, “moon watching” was always more my parents thing but I ended up mesmerized and watching for the next half hour and finding even more interest in Mars which was giving the moon a run for it’s money. After I snapped several pics with my phone and iPad, I of course then had to research the whole thing and found that October 1st, 2020 is the Full Harvest Moon. Since it is supposed to be visible at 5:05 pm TONIGHT, according to the Farmers Almanac , I guess what woke me was a preview?

THIS is Where the Money is!

Where is everyone? Sorry, where is “everyone who is anyone”, I mean. Pandemic panic has hit big in terms of those with money and where they live. This morning CNBC’s Squawk Box gave its usual real estate update via leading wealth authority Robert Frank—we found out pretty quickly where the money is! What used to be straight talk on NYC’s residential Real Estate market has now become astonishing sound bytes on the buying trends of the well-to-do and at this point constant updates of which suburbs Manhattan’s wealthiest are fleeing to and by what percentage. As of today the stats landed like this...

Tri-State (Connecticut, New Jersey, New York)

Hamptons: 109%

Greenwich: 190%

Westchester: 60%

Florida

Palm Beach: 84%

Broward (County): 136%

Miami/Dade: 19%

It was also reported that contracts in Palm Beach for seven figure homes have recently TRIPLED. If you didn’t know... now you know.

THANK YOU Chadwick Boseman...

“Hasn’t been an hour since the news that I haven’t thought of Chadwick Boseman as a beautiful black man & as a man who LOVED his craft to the point of never stopping” was posted minutes ago on my now locked Twitter page.

There are very few people who know what it is like to “work” while in treatment for Cancer. The exhaustion one can feel is enormous. The aversion for the procedure that develops right before your infusion-if that is your method of treatment-can be overwhelming. The only solace a person can attain after such necessary functions is to WORK. This may sound strange but if you love what you do and have a sense of joy and satisfaction from working this is the easiest way to deal with Cancer—I know because I worked while in treatment for Cancer several years prior.

In 2013, seeing Chadwick Boseman in 42 was EVERYTHING! A fresh face on the screen one that was not only gorgeous but one with character and promise and innocence one that could tackle a biopic right out the gate was and is still a big deal. Boseman didn’t put out much between 2014-2016 which makes the accomplishments of his last four years the most unreal feat one can imagine. Diagnosed in 2016, Chadwick Boseman then proceeded valiantly on completing and promoting 7 films in four years like he was perfectly well and able bodied, a consummate professional with no end day in sight.

Beyond the films he found time to visit children who had been hospitalized for their cancer as well as speak at commencement ceremonies at his alma mater, Howard Univeristy. People this is not the norm for many actors much less one who was undergoing chemotherapy and having what has been revealed as multiple surgeries.

So I THANK YOU my dear brother Chadwick for showing the world what a real man can do, for showing the world what a strong black man can do and most importantly showing the world what a person fighting Cancer can do. We love you!

Best Dressed Newscaster is...Joy Reid!

So I’m just going to go ahead and ask the question that many of you have wanted to know since sassy MSNBC political news anchor Joy Reid began her new weeknight gig— The ReidOut. Who the h*ll is “styling” Joy Reid? Alright we knew that on Monday, July 20th, Night 1 of her new gig, a transition from her morning weekend show (AMJoy), she’d step up her game but come on...this is brilliant! The real PUSH in her choice of fashionable long sleeved frocks happened somewhere around th July 27th week with a knockout all black long-sleeve number.

Tonight’s off-white vintage look is the epitome of feminine with it’s lacy Victorian style and delicate high collar —both youthful and slimming. Ms. Reid, as a former fashion blogger who has covered many, many, did I say many seasons of NYFW? I implore you—DM me the name of your stylist I’d like to compare notes!

Nothing makes a woman feel electric like a good piece of jewlery—a fine piece at that! Though with all that’s going on in the world right now— should we decide to “rethink” our ostentatiousness a bit—a “name plate” necklace may resonate better with a “sentiment”. I mean all eight letters of your name spelled out is a bit passé. Don’t you think?

I was dumbstruck a few days ago by this gorgeous piece from Serena Williams Jewelry. The word “inspire” spelled out in precious gemstones is to die for! Personally, I’m looking into other sentiments and other brands for sure & for the record I’m also seeking.... a cheerful GIVER!

If you’ve are a thinker a “real thinker” (like moi) and into the stock market (also like moi) —you would have seen this coming. How? It was announced in early June that COTY was buzzing around Kim Kardashian and if you are a fashion trade mag. (WWD) reader (like moi) you’d have already known that COTY has a 51% stake in Kylie Cosmetics. It doesn’t take a “genius” to see how bright the horizon could be if you owned a bit of COTY stock.
