Backpacking Blog??
As a kid, my mom would tell my brother and I to play outside - I absolutely dreaded it. In fact, I would hide in her van in the garage and count to 1000 and just say I played outside for an hour. When I became a teenager, my mom had me apply to be a nature camp counselor - that pretty much forced me to be ok with being outside, but it did so much more for me than that. I fell in love with getting dirty and being in the woods. A year ago, I had a mandatory camping trip for my geology class which sparked my sense of adventure up again. My professor was doing a backpacking trip and reached out to me. The next semester before I knew it, I was backpacking the Grand Canyon. I NEVER would have imagined myself doing anything like that, but it was the most rewarding experience of my life and now backpacking is my favorite hobby. I have just found a partner to take on the Triple Crown of hiking with, so I am currently training for the Appalachian Trail with him. I want to share my journey in case anyone who is considering backpacking can take something away from my mistakes, advice, and adventures! My goal in life is to expose as many indoorsy people to nature as possible. It is my belief that the stronger of a relationship an individual has with nature, the more they will care about protecting it - and not for the sake of mankind’s success on the globe, but for the sake of saving the natural world itself. I will try to be regular with my posts and include anything from fun stories to how I train to my gear and anything and everything in between. Enjoy :)

Every year, humans cut down approximately 15 billion trees.
Aside from providing 30% of our planet’s oxygen, trees are vital in providing habitat, holding soil, controlling floods, reducing noise pollution, and maintaining biodiversity.
A single tree has the capacity to absorb 20 tons of carbon dioxide, produce 1550 pounds of oxygen, and take in 45 pounds of suspended dust in a given year. Yet, since the dawn of their time, humans have reduced the Earth’s tree coverage by nearly one half.

We are raising money for an environmental project in our community! The money we raise will go to the One Tree Planted organization, which plants one tree for every dollar donated. Because the minimum requirement for donation is $20, we are collecting money for those who don’t wish to donate this amount. Our goal is not only to raise money, but to spread the word about problems forests are facing and what you can do to help.

Plant Trees by Using the Internet
Tumblr media
By using the search engine Ecosia, you can help plant trees. They work basically the same way as Google, only 80% of their profits go into planting trees. It’s very easy to get, and all you have to do is use the internet!
