To #play is such a vital and important part of our mental health as human beings. To have friends that know what we’re talking about and are just as nerdy as well are about that one special thing. I have struggled to find these people at this time in my life and when all the world points and tells you that anything that one does should make them money, something as essential as play often slips from the front of one’s mind. For this reason, I could not appreciate more the company of @thephotoscooper . To have a couple drinks and nerd out about photo stuff and to have him actually understand what I’m saying when speaking in industry jargon is as valuable as platinum. Sam is one of the best product photographers in this city, though undervalued, as most professionals and artists in this city are. There are people that come to you out of the blue that are delightfully refreshing to work with. One such is @jenniferannbruce and her sons Alex and Max. As an artist, I often need to compromise on the value of what I produce and even more frequently the style/concept to fit my clients’ needs or budget. Jennifer, having been a creative director, intuitively knew how to work with me as an artist. She is incredibly kind, communicative, and one of the most collaborative people I’ve worked with for some time, defaulting to me and respecting my creative process, vision, and intention, but just as quickly contributing when brought into composing the shots of her wonderful sons. This seems like such a simple thing. But it’s a rare gem to collaborate with such a person. I can’t thank you enough, Jennifer for hiring me for what I love to do, valuing my art, experience, and skill and allowing me to make great art with you and your grads! Collaboration is key, and when I told him we’d be shooting in an abandoned factory space, he didn’t even hesitate and the results speak for themselves.
