Ellie lifts her gun, finger steady on the trigger, but Tommy’s already moving, the dead infected disposed of. Stepping in front of her, he brings down a long piece of thick black metal into the infected's neck, leaving a large gash where the metal piece lands, mycelium tendrels reaching up almost delicately from the wound. When Tommy brings the weapon up again, terrible violence burning in his eyes, teeth bared in a fierce grimace, her flashlight reflects off the surface of a deadly sharp blade along the edge.

He brings the blade down again and again across the infected's neck until its head separates from its neck with a sickening squelch and falls to the floor, the body following closely after. 

Tommy stands over it, pulling in deep, ragged breaths, arms trembling, hair hanging loose around his face, tie lost somewhere in the struggle. A flash of lightning from outside illuminates his face for a split second, causing Ellie to take a startled step away from the look of feral madness that twists his features.

Then the room goes dark, and he’s turning to her, his expression one of concern, the visage from mere seconds ago gone like a mirage in a desert. He drops the metal implement on the ground; it makes a dull thud when it hits the carpeted floor.

After reading this chapter, I have to know how far you plan to take this story. Is it going to butt up against canon or is it going to go into Joel and Ellie being in Jackson?

I love the idea that we might get to see Tommy and Maria's point of view of Joel and Ellie appearing in Jackson and then disappearing, after Tommy made a promise to take a certain someone to the fireflies without telling his wife!

I am obsessed with this story, I can't get enough of it.

(Also, if you don't plan on going that far, it's totally okay, no pressure.)

Oh, boy, how to answer this ask without spoiling anything. Let’s say the universe I’ve dreamt up for Maria and Tommy spins wide and high and I hope, against all odds, that I’ll be able to tell all of those stories (including those with a long-lost brother and his feral not-my-daughter daughter, and even some wild card ones).

Summary:

Maria Scott and Tommy Miller collide on one cold, winter afternoon and it changes everything (aka Maria and Tommy origin story).

The National Hurricane Center has issued a warning for the state of Wyoming as Hurricane Maria, a Category 5 storm, is forecast to make landfall near Jackson Hole on Thursday. Officials urged residents to prepare for the worst and heed evacuation orders.

The above is a video shared by smrchildsadness on Twitter, showing a person participating in a pride parade exchanging a pride flag with a person standing on his (am using his pronoun based on the TikToks/Tweets of what happened) doorway who had a Portuguese flag. There are sounds of cheers and crying and the two people hug each other as they exchange the flags. The man at the doorway then waved kisses to the crowd within the pride parade.

The Tweet says: "NO YOU DONT UNDERSTAND HE WAS WAVING THE PORTUGUESE FLAG BECAUSE HE DIDN'T HAVE A PRIDE FLAG AND THEY TRADED FLAGS AND HE'S SO EMOTIONAL TO GET HIS OWN PRIDE FLAG I'M EMOTIONALLY RUINED"

For context, apparently they were worried that maybe he's a nationalist because he was waving the Portuguese flag and some nationalists opposing the pride march were waving that flag. But upon interacting with him, it turns out he didn't have have a pride flag and he wanted to wave *a* flag in support of the pride march. So they had an exchange and now he has his own pride flag 😭🥹.

Summary:

“Tommy, did ya see something bad?” Joel asks, images of his 18-year-old baby brother dressed in his army fatigues, hair cut short, ears sticking out, a constellation of freckles across his tanned cheeks, arms, and legs, still lanky, his frame more a boy’s than a man's. His smile crooked and wide, eyes sparkling as he laughs. “...Yeah.” It’s a whisper, Joel almost misses it. “Did people get killed? Because I saw somethin’ on the news about people gettin’ killed?” Tommy makes an aborted choking sound. “Tom?” “Yeah, Joel. I’m here.” Tommy says, rushed, desperate, broken. Joel feels sorrow and frustration burning behind his eyes, stinging his nose, choking his voice, “You’re goin’ to make it through this, ya hear me Tommy? I know you're gonna make it through this.”

Notes:

Sorgfuld is Danish for Sorrowful. This idea came to me after I was bopping around on YouTube and saw a snippet of the movie Cherry with Tom Holland. So you can blame them for this sadness.
