The Scientific Study of Destiny - UPDATED

So, I am just going to use the chapter numbers for A03 now, because otherwise it's going to get SUPER confusing!

Chapter 13 of The Scientific Study of Destiny has been posted!

Sneak Peak:

“Miss Galinda. Who's your friend?” Galinda sighed as she was forced to introduce another female upperclassman to Fiyero as they tried to make their way around campus.

She supposed she understood why everyone was so eager to meet and talk to Fiyero. He was new and shiny (and rich). Who wouldn’t be drawn to him?

To Galinda Fiyero was uncomplicated fun. He was new. He was kind. He was flirtatious. He was a Prince. He was also not Elphaba. And he was a he.

He was also engaged.

Which might have caused some complications in their fun little tête-à-tête, if not for Fiyero’s explanation that he and his Destined both liked to flirt with other people, but they were committed to each other. The Winkie culture even allowed for him and his fiancee to take additional lovers!

Galinda found that fascinating. It was highly irregular within Gillikin Country for these types of relationships to be accepted. Here when a man flirted or slept with another woman that wasn’t his fiancee, it was called an affair. And affairs were scandalous! In the Vinkus a Prince could take on several wives and lovers, as could his wife, and no one would blink an eye. Their only concern being the legitimacy of the children to inherit the family titles. How fascinating!

But that also posed a bit of a problem. Galinda was just playfully flirting. She held no interest in Fiyero whatsoever. So as soon as Galinda realized Fiyero might actually want more than an innocent flirtation, even though he had a fiancee that he adored, she told him promptly that she was not interested in him romantically or sexually.

“It’s nothing to do with you…well.” Her face scrunched for a moment, “Perhaps it does. You see, I’ve met my bondmate. But even if I hadn’t met her, our flirtation would just be for fun, as I prefer women as romantic and sexual partners.”

Fiyero only smiled at her at her admission, “Oh, well my loss is Sarima’s gain.” Good, he seemed accepting of this, though, “Sah, Sarima’s…gain?”

He grinned, “Mhmm, so, nothing for us besides a little flirting and a friendship?”

“Yes, I have no intention to make it more than that. And I am a good friend to have. I can provide references.” Galinda said honestly.

Fiyero’s eyes twinkled as he laughed, touching her arm in his amusement. She stared at it, what was so funny about her being able to provide references for him to consider her as a friend? It was an efficient means to vet someone, wasn’t it? He was a Prince. Shouldn’t there be someone vetting his acquaintances?

When she didn’t laugh with him, he stopped, and stared, “Ah yes, you’re serious.” He straightened a bit then, “I’ll happily accept your references. But I do like to make my own mind up.” Fiyero removed his hand from her arm and tapped at his temple, his boyish grin back.
