I'm so glad for Zutara Week and the lovely stream of Zutara works that it brings, especially after the last couple weeks.

For this one, I originally drew a completely different idea and got all the way to the rendering stage before I accepted that it just wasn't working for me. I'm glad I allowed myself to explore new ideas cause I'm pretty happy with how this came out. Hope you all like it too! <3

I Am Hers, She Is Mine

“She is … difficult."

Adora didn't understand, not at first. How could she? Catra was not something you could learn about second-hand.

But ultimately, Angella's warning proved true: Catra was difficult.

She was mean. Cold. She hated most things … but Adora quickly learned there was one thing she liked.

Fighting. And most of all, Catra liked fighting Adora.

Nails dug into her shoulders as she wrestled Catra to the ground.

“Adora! You idiot, get … get off!” the Lannister cried, her voice cracking with desperation.

They had been fencing in Winterfell’s courtyard. Catra was winning—as usual. She was better with a sword, no question. But Adora was bigger. Stronger. 

And Catra resented it. Hated it. Craved it.

“I might,” Adora teased, not moving one inch. She cupped her elbows behind Catra’s back, pulling them even closer together. “If you admit that I beat you …”

Catra scoffed, then growled. She bared her fangs and gnashed her teeth, coating her opponent’s face with spit. 

Adora’s grin didn’t even budge.

“Not happening,” Catra hissed, sinking her claws deeper.

Catra was difficult. 

She was brash and hostile, prone to shouting and swearing. But sometimes, she smiled. And with Adora, she even laughed … 

“Adora, Adora! STOP!”

“Not until you say it! You like me."

Her fingers were relentless, prodding and pushing and petting, leaving Catra a writhing mess of gasps and growls atop her bed.

Then came the laughter.

Raspy, weak … an unused muscle. But Adora was determined to work it, strengthen it. Until Catra was as adept at joy as she was with a sword.

Catra was difficult. 

She hated hugs—hugs, of all things. She would tense, growl, sometimes even run.

But with Adora? She stayed.

“Adora …” Catra groaned as she was pulled into a tight embrace. But she didn’t flinch or fight.

Instead, the little lion’s paws settled on Adora’s hips. They trembled.

Adora tightened her hug in response.

“Happy name day, Catra.”

Catra was difficult. 

More than anything, she despised kisses. To kiss Catra was to invite a scratch, a cut … or worse.

But then, there was that morning …
