Warden and Maruki, were having a simple day out, even though it was Valentines Day, Warden himself wasn't much for grand gestures of love like all the youngsters were doing. Pulling out all the stops, spending heaps of cash on their significant other. All Warden wanted, was just a day to spend with his favorite Shikoku Inu.

They were sitting on a park bench after the two of them had gotten ice cream from a nearby kiosk. Warden was taking in the scenery while enjoying the company of Maruki's presence, when he looked over to the Inu, and noticed he had a bit of ice cream on his nose. With a chuckle, he leaned in close and got the Inu's attention.

"Hey, 'Ruki, ya got somethin' on your face."

Without pause, he gently cupped the Inu's cheek in his palm, then gently licked the Ice cream off of Maruki's nose.

"Me~♡"

"Oh, but I speak the truth. The "Nyarlathotep" you've been following is nothing but a fake from another construct of my universe. I'm the real deal. The better deal I would say.~"

"I'm saying, ditch that wannabe counterfeit, and choose the better model. You remember what you said right? She always berates you, and doesn't even use your own name. I'd never do that to you, I'd treat you with love, respect, and more, I'll even throw in a biscuit in for you as a treat~🤍 So what do you say, do we have a deal?"

Ignoring the "biscuit" comment, I won't lie, sounds pretty sweet. But unfortunately...

"This pup, belongs to me. Sorry darling, but there's only room for ONE deity of chaos, and as you've made it abundantly clear, that's not you. So crawl back to whatever dimensions you came from.~"

"Oh that's so cute coming from a fake. I think maybe I should educate you on who exactly you're dealing with."

The mutt took a moment to process the Inu's concerns. His ears drooping a bit as they went on about their plight and worry of what his initial persona said.

With a sigh, Warden turned away and walked over to the Evoker that layed on the floor. "A gun?" He thought, before turning back to Maruki.

"Can't lie... I did. But, I didn't say anything because, I thought it was good. I wasn't going berserk anymore and you were keeping everyone safe from me."

Warden's gaze shifted to a more focused yet somber one as he looked down at the gun shaped device in his hand.

"But... I guess no matter what way you spin it. Crazy or not, it's still me, and being on any kind of leash was just more than he-... I could take."

With the mention of the rather fluttering emotions between the two of the by Maruki, Warden's cheeks became a slight tint of red as he covered his mouth nonchalantly and looked away. He began to ponder why he did feel this way. Could his other-self have given him more confidence? I mean, in that state of mind he does run more on instinct, so maybe it wasn't just confidence driving him... maybe it was-....

Before he could finish thinking or even say anything, he was snapped out of deep thought when the prospect of escaping the snowed in lobby came to his attention.

"Ehh huh!? O-Oh, yeah. We should probably get on that."

Walking over to the wall of snow, Warden's gaze scanned it all over looking for any potential weak spots. After a while Warden noticed some of the light from the other side of the lobby was more visible than the rest. Raising his hand hit pointed, drawing the other dog's attention towards it.

"There! If we bust through that we can get outta here!"

Within all this commotion walked a lone dog, who was fortunate to have a day off today, and was headed to a particular château that stood in the center of the park. He had heard from onenof his friends that chao races were often hosted there, and decided to see one for himself.

The snow crunched beneath the footsteps of his red winter boots, the slight breeze in the air made him shiver a tad bit, do he put his red mitten gloved hands in the pockets of his coat and continued msking his way through the crowd.

“Uuurrghh… I hate the cold.” He complained.

“Why did I let them convince me to come here? Maybe I should just go ho-”

He was stopped mid sentence by the smell of a nearby kiosk selling grilled hot dogs. He lifted his head slightly and sniffed the air, that’s when his stomach decided to growl and he locked his lips hungrily, then quickly lowerd his head ashamed, hoping no one saw that.

He sighed and shook his head. “I’ve got to have alot more self control in that department.”

With a shrug, he quickly dashed over to the kiosk and ordered a hot dog with mustard on it. He leaned against the counter as he waited for his food.

A small part of Warden was worried he had acted too rash, and thought maybe he had jumped the gun with his emotions. Atleast that's how he felt for a brief moment before being suddenly grabbed amd pulled into another kiss by Maruki.

"W-Woah!- mmmph!

With a small huff through his nose, he internally chuckled, before relaxing and holding the Inu in his arms, not wanting to let go even for a second.

Meanwhile his now transformed persona, simply tilted its hat and vanished, transforming into an evoker. That layed on the floor.

Soon the tender moment level down as Warden gently pulled out of the kiss, his breath slow and calm. Still holding Maruki with an arm, his other hand slid up to the Inu's face, using his thumb to carefully wipe his tears before resting his palm on the other dog's cheek.

With a warm smile, Warden spoke.

"....Thanks 'Ruki."

The hand itself was covered in a black glove that tore at the fingers, revealing yellow crystalline clawed fingers that dug into the poor Inu's arm.

A second hand lunged out from the screen which was now flashing red static, and gripped the desk as it began to pull itself forward. A pained and gutteral groan came from the computer's speakers, it distorted and choppy like a software trying to run on something that clearly didn't have the processor to do it.

As whatever was in the screen pulled itself closer, the computer skidded across the desk aswell until it fell off a loud crash, leaving the screen heavily cracked, yet still operational. Unfortunately for the Inu, this caused the crystalline claws to lose their grip and scrape themselves across his arm, leaving a few cuts to it.

The arms layed limp from the monitor for a moment, only the sound of static filling the room. That is until slowly, the arms repositioned themselves and began to claw and tug at the floor, the form of whatever was attacted to them making itself more and more seen. The screen began to morph and warp as if it were plastic being stretched from within, the static still covering it. The sound of countless digitized screeches could be heard, almost as if the computer itself was in agony.

Finally with only one big lunge towards the Inu, the screen broke, and whatever was in it was set free, now breathing heavily with its head down seemingly exhausted from what could only be assumed to be a strenuous effort. The head of the figure looked familiar, six blue furred quils, and similarly colored red and white shoes. Despite the glove and other attire consisting of a grey scarf, black and white jacket and pants, these attributes belonged to only one person.

Digital Sleuths

The past week had been...less than merciful to Takuto Maruki.

First, the ex-counselor had to contend with an unusually high volume of very confrontational passengers during his day shifts as a taxi driver. Second, he wound up in a rather intense argument with his roommate the other day. And lastly, his computer has been slow beyond reason since he got back.

Honestly, the Inu just wanted some moment of respite.

Too bad his circadian rhythm decided for that respite to be at his work desk while he'd been working on the computer, his head atop crossed arms. Well, at least he was home right now.

So of course fate would decide to throw one more wrench in his routine, this one in the form of an insistent pinging sound.

Ears twitching, Maruki emitted a grumble before opening his bleary eyes and lifting his head with a faint whine - only for that whine to get louder once he caught sight of the notification plastered across his screen.

Warning. Virus detected. Immediate action required.

Great. Just great. Maruki rubbed his hands into his eyes, groaning, before reaching for his mouse and dragging it so he could get his cursor over his computer's antivirus app and fix this mess.

Except the moment he double-clicked the app, the entire screen went pixelated in various shades of blue - and almost in the shape of a face?

That definitely dispelled the last bit of sleep in the Inu, who gawked at the screen in both concern and wide-eyed disbelief. He was no computer expert, but Maruki had the distinct feeling a virus shouldn't do something like this.

Maybe it'd be best to have an expert look through this? Or maybe replace this computer altogether? It was fairly old after all.

Either way, Maruki reached a finger towards the power button to be done with this.

Only for a hand to shoot out of the screen and grab him by the arm.

A scream followed.

So, I've honestly been considering creating an EXE Sonic for a muse on here. Of course with my own twist on it (just know he won't be a demented purely evil entity).

Once the tendrils had receded and the mutt was able to move freely once more, both he and his persona had risen up. He lumbered towards Maruki, the shining embers of darkness from his persona hiding his expression as the mechanical doppelganger loomed behind him.

Each step echoed throughout the dark snow covered lobby, until there were no more as Warden was now infront of the Inu. His calm controlled breaths created a faint mist infront of his face in the cold.

The persona closed its eyes and held out its arm, summoning a cane with a flask full of green liquid. After buttoned up its tuxedo, it produced a hat from the embers that shifted from black and violet, to a calm azure blue.

Warden, with his eyes closed placed a hand on Maruki's shoulder. Then without warning, the mutt tilted his head, and gently kissed the Inu.

Warden along with his persona, opened their eyes, both now their usual ocean blue colors. Pulling away from the kiss, Warden looked at Maruki with a calm smile, the moonlight reflecting off his eyes.

"Now why would I want that, 'Ruki?"

The mutt's angered expression, much like the illusion, shattered into one of confusion. That's when he suddenly felt a massive stinging impact in his cheek. Looking up, he had seen that his persona had been knocked away by a giant fist.

"H-HYDE!!!"

Before he could move, a massive wave of sluggishness washed over his body, leaving himself barely able to even stand. What was happening!? Through his confusion, he managed to focus himself just enough to sniff the air, and track down the real Maruki, who was right behind him.

Whirling around he was met with myriad of black tentacles with neon blue markings, sending him crashing to the floor.

"GYAAAHH!! NO!! NO NO NO!!! STOP IT!!! LET WARDEN GO!!!!"

His shouting and struggling continued, even to the point where he began to instinctively cast eigaon as pillar of dark energy erupted from the ground, all missing their target as his accuracy was lowered. Finally, after a long while of tugging and pulling at his restraints, Warden began to tire out.

When questioned, Warden bared his fangs at Maruki, but instead him speaking, his persona was the one to answer.

"Hyahahahaha, fool... you FOOL!!! You're so arrogant! You claim you have no intention of changing us, yet almost at EVERY TURN you surpress us, push back down into his mind. Did you really think that wouldn't have any repercussions?"

As his persona continued to laugh maniacally, the mad mutt only stared at Maruki with an expression of anger... and sadness.

"W-Warden... doesn't like being contained... it hurts... it hurts."

His already bent ears seemed to droop lower as his anger faded.

"W-Warden will be good... please... don't contain us again..."

The mad mutt spat back at the Inu, with a venomous roar. His fangs bared and his new persona now radiating embers of dark embers, he slowly began to lumber his way towards Maruki, his eyes lazer focused on the other dog's gaze.

" 'Rrrrghh... 'Ruki... 'Ruki hurt Warden."

As he got closer, his fingers arched as his claws sharpened, his gloves morphing to fit them. With another growl he spoke.

" 'Ruki hide Warden... 'Ruki CONTAIN Warden... no more... NO MORE!!!"

With a thrust of his arm, he commaned his newly awakened persona to attack. It flew forward towards Maruki, drawing back it's metallic arm for a wide slashing attack.

My second digital animation ever, and I am so happy to have stuck with seeing this to the end. No better way to start off the New Year as an artist, personally.

Also yes, I am obsessed with the nameless Warden from Sonic IDW.

But for real, I have so much respect for animators on account of how long just this 6-plus seconds took me.
