I’m the Stanniest of Queen Bee Stans now, so I have to learn as much as possible.
I've been listening to this band for 4 months now and tbh I don't know the pronouns or gender of the singer Avu-Chan. Can you please help me so that Queen Bee fans don't send any hate to m. Thanks.
Hello!
As far as I've seen, whenever asked about gender Avu-chan's answers have never been as simple as black or white, and I don't want to guess anything about her identity, but here are some notes:
on the first version of the official English site her pronouns were "she/her", some English interviews & articles about the band also used it
Japanese interviewers use 彼女 ('she') to refer to her and usually use feminine words; whenever she does modeling work she's categorized as a female model (rekisami’s 2017 ss collection)
always uses "sisters" ([1], [2]) when talking about herself and her sister Ruri; calls herself gyaru, etc.
There's also a very interesting bit in a 2018 interview from i-D:
"I think that everybody has two colors in them — red and blue. You get purple if you mix them, then dark blue and ultimately a gradient of colors. Only red or only blue or any other solid color on its own — it feels a little like cosplay. And in real life, isn't it exhausting to wear a costume every day?"
So, looking at this and some of the things she's said in the past, her identity seems to be pretty genderfluid and you can use either "she" or the singular "they", with the latter being the safest option, I think.
In the end, Avu-chan is Avu-chan and being yourself is more important than any labels! (but respecting other people’s pronouns is important at all times, so thank you for this question)

So we all know this has been one hell of a ride. November was hard. March through October was hard. We’re not expecting December to step out of line. So here’s a little something to celebrate just turning off our cerebral cortexes for a moment. It’s Tuesday. Enjoy the void.

There are a lot of parody brands in Budokan, but this was an early spotting for me. It’s a good show! Looking forward to the second season.
