Sorcerer Update (again??) 4-18-18
No excuses.
Apparently Sorcerer never got 100% updated?? So I finalized him and he is looking sexy now. Here them changes stolen from Trello:
Manipulator
Gel Cube - Moved lower so that it was not as easy to get. Reworded digestion to not suck.tweaked stats.
Black Haze - replaced Foresight cause that was awful. Now he has a new manipulative attack.
Nameless Fears - only stops Charge now.
Mutations
Familairs are now Summon with its wording tweaked
Mutation - added this tag to all abilities to clarify how they could be used.
Fearless - changes what bonuses it gave to
TR - wording tweaked
Quint - had wording tweaked
Defiler
Dispel - changed wording to be more specific
Wyrmlings - Gave more health, tweaked passive wording, made more melee focused.
Maniacal - Also works with Summons now
Unfair Dominance - Updated to to hit modifiers
Wise Tactics is now Exploit Weakness - which now enables you and others in combat to deal a different type of damage.
Also, lots of rulebook additions and love. Should have a much nice actual version by next weekend.

Small Play Test 12-11-17
I was able to get a small play test going this weekend with someone who has never played Codex before, and a friend of mine who always plays once in a while. Overall it went GREAT. I have a list of small things that need to be tweaked rule book wise and sheet wise but otherwise, i was so happy. Here is a TLDR of the session:
Story: Someone stealing all shinies. Find who and where. Find kobalds stealing from jewelry store. Saved them. Kept one hostage. Gave truth serum. Shinies for hoard in a warehouse. Traded kobald for deamon. Went to warehouse and found hoard. Found out they summoning dragon with gold. Mekk made solution to combust gold on a timer. Placed it in hoard. Gund shoots kobald mage, closes portal, slices off dragon head. Gund run through hell pit to retrieve dragon head. Return to CEC. Done Oh. The entire dwarven district and all gold burns to the ground.
I was using a universe i already built and will continue to use it for these silly things. i think a couple more sessions like this will give me lots of motivation to polish up everything. I will finish classes this week!

Continuing reworks 12-6-17
So i am trying to keep consistent with my work on the game to get to that juicy juicy end goal of a finished product. So what do i have for you all?? I have 100% reworked the last bit of Chaplain AND the Hunter!
So here is the rest of Chaplain: PALADIN - HS worded better - AF worded better - RV now is much better at singling out a target and dealing specific dmg. - DB moved to next tier and made a passive for soul dmg. Old ability wouldnt work nicely between Ranged/Melee. - HS reworded to work with new resistances. Holy crap that was only terminology. - Repent Worded better Destined - Worded better and lower cost, bonus so it is used more often.
I am very happy where the Chaplain is now. He has a LOT of unique melee abilities, and also a butt load of great buffs for charms.
As for Hunter,i have a lot to say but ill save it for another post. Here is the condensed change list: MARKSMAN - Made Mark a special rule to simplify abilities. - Volley - Worded better - KS - Worded better, removed AP - Overdraw - updated wording - Camouflage - updated wording - UF - Changed to allow the hunter to shoot in combat at them or others. - PA - Now is a stance because passives are silly when you have stances. - FR - Slight word changes.
HERBALISM - Tweaked the wording for poisons and it now applies to all weapons for your turn only. - IP - now explodes on death which makes it more interesting. - AT - now can be used to help allies - HP - Increased CD, lowered heal, gave a wounded bonus. Heals don't need to be broke in the game. - CP - Re-worded this slightyl - BBP - Changed wording so it was less confusing. - MP - Replaced Griffon blood cause that one was odd... instead, you can now drive units mad and have them attack random people! - CP - Wanted to make this similar to CP but with counter attacks and movement.
SURVIVALIST - Added Stance as a special rule. Now it ONLY comes off ever if you take damage and only one can be on at a time. interesting take on a passive heavy char. - Ripsaw - Turned into major and tried to make it make more sense. Also +1 attack for small buff. - Awareness moved to beginning actions. - Grapeshot - Gave +1 to hits and reworded to sound less confusing. - CP - replaced snare shot from the beginning. I hope it allows a cool single target strategy. - NS - slight word tweaks -HnR - cost up by one. changed to major instant. Don't want the hunter to never get in combat but this allows an expensive escape.

Chaplain Overhaul 11-3--17
HO LEE Shieeett i did not intend to actually do what i did to the Chaplain. I thought All of avatarism was being changed but not like..... ALL the class.... It was really for the best though. i have it like 75% done so i will just go ahead and paste my notes from trello to here:
All of Avatarism was condensed so that the rules and duration were stated above and not in the abilities.
All abilities had their stat improvements removed because that is tedious and not the way the game should be played. - SS now a tank machine. - Favor is easy buff machine - War good at attacking - GT Just heals now - LoW more of anti ranged - Ascension words changed - Phoenix now simpler. You get wounded and it works or u get refunded.
BISHOP - First 3 were solid and good easy abilities so left em. - RIP "Scything Reflection" but you were redundant and uninteresting. - Kneel mortals a fun buff charm for anybody. - RIP "Mending Touch" but you were ALSO redundant and a heal. - Faithful Shield cool shield mechanic that isn't just a stat buff. - AW changed to be both a way to help others and screw with enemies - Spirit Duel had awful rules. re-wrote and made it unique. - Conversion not original cause sorcerer Doppel. made it another spell and cool after effect.

Races and tweaks 11-16-17
I was chatting with some friends about Codex the other day and they got interested in playing it So of course i started doing a pass on everything they wanted to use! This meant the Druid class finally got some love and i re-wrote a TON of its abilities to be much more precise and shorter! The coolest part of this was definitely that i was scared there was too much text for the class and i was contemplating moving away from the one page system i always stuck to.
NO MORE! Druid and Sorcerer are by far the most text heavy classes and i got Druid to lose about 3 or 4 lines per section which was wonderful.
The other thing i was happy about was creating more Races to play with. I never got over taking ‘Golems’ out of the game :( i really enjoy Golems as a race! sooo in order to make races easily random, and to push my creativity... i moved around some abilities and tweaked other to up the races to 12! Woo!
Classes are still by far my biggest focus of the game since i want to make them as interesting and balanced as possible so i am going to try and focus on their playtests in upcoming changes. Stay tuned!

New Beginnings 6-1-17
Hey all and greeting from Southern Florida! That is right, my life was hella hectic for about 2 months with finals, projects, senior design, graduating college, and then moving down here with my GF to start looking for jobs.
I know codex gets little love, but it really is nice taking such a big step back and thinking about things. If i recall correctly all i really have to do is redo the character sheets and then i will be all good to go! I have an idea for redoing the sheets in a much less crowded way and am excited to get into it bit by bit every day after job searching.
I can not wait to play test this version with people and seeing where it lies now a days. Sorry again for more excuses, but this is a hobby, not a job. Here’s to the start of my adult life and hopefully a fun career!

Skipping Around 3/10/17
Short update on the workings. The rulebook is massively updated now and in doing so i realize where the rest of my time needs to go.
- Armor stats now work, but reaction abilities seem silly and not necessary even after re-wording them. For now they are out.
- More rules for Non-Combat so that it is no longer super loose. A lot of combat situations also benefit from these rules so they are up next.
- The GOD DAMN character sheets piss me off endlessly because there is no good way for me, in my head, to create what i have already created. Basically, i don’t want to redo them because of the work but i know i have to.
- Classes need to be looked over since so many rules such as Reactions, Saves, and others have tweaked. This will take a long time because i will also have to paste all the changes into the new sheet format.
Ugg. The game is unplayable because of sheets so that is next up on my list. Guess that is today.

Rulebook Overhaul 3/2/17
It is getting done. I am merging all ideas and updates from some 8 documents started 2 years into a brand new rulebook format. The entire thing has been re-written, moved around, tweaked for looks, and is coming along amazingly.
The rulebook has gone from an 8 page small time RPG to a 17 page ordeal in 3 days of working on it. This is not including the soon to come 10 page Non-combat addition for jobs and quirks. I will not stop working on this game until it is playable again.
I want to play Wanderer’s Codex and show off how far this game has come in 8 years. Especially the past 2 years of time people think i just gave up on it. It grew the most in that time, i just didn’t have the nerve to take the giant leap and start re-writing the core rules.
It will get done, it will get played, i will live follow my dream. This has to happen prior to graduating College. i have waited too long. talk again soon.

Quick Glance 2/7/17
It has been a while. I had an hour of free time and no homework which is new to me. I didn’t know what else to do so i decided to see if my Trello page was still there. It still exists and still amazes me how much i have accomplished. I wanted to take a quick minute to post excuses and things to do possibly.
Senior year of college. Senior design project. hanging with friends and flying down to see GF. I run a weekly session of The Black Hack where i make everything on the fly and create everyone's classes from scratch and their ideas. My creativity is still super high for fun mechanics.
WHY YOU PLAYING AN RPG THAT ISN’T CODEX??? A - well because i have some 15 friends who love Role playing so i designed a system and world and session to accommodate a huge player base and people rotating every week. I also purely use conversation to play the game with a sheet of stats. Its very loose rules which helps move it along. its a nice system for the current situation.
I miss codex tho. It had such a fun combat system that i poured my heart into because i love tactics games. i haven’t played a good combat system in forever that rewarded everything from positioning to teamwork to cooldowns and skill trees. League of Legends is my giant inspiration for such a depth of gameplay. I have never found an game that reaches the nice depth of combat i put into codex. I really want to bring it back.
Apparently after my last post i did a fuckton of work on weapons and armor. I kinda remember it but i had no idea i wrapped up all of weapons and armor... i did not know how close i was getting a working model out for the brand new overhauled systems. Non-combat, damage, armor, weapons, tags, and a couple other like jesus its a ton.
I can’t promise anything. I do however want to play codex again. It looks like almost all the final changes are things that need to just be worked out in play. I can’t run a complete other section but i think ima run through my rulebook and do a playtest sometime soon.
This game will get done, no matter how long.

Not Sure 11/2/16
So basically i am not sure what the future of the game is. I really do want to finish it, but its in such a rough spot. I have had friends offer help but its super hard to explain an entire game and my balance system when i am just running off gut feelings.
Looking at Trello and my docs i realize that i I need to create a bunch of starting weps, armor, then redo the sheet format. It doesn’t sound too bad i guess. I keep telling myself i will do it but it really rough generating entire weapon and armor catalogs by yourself.
Anyway, I have some fresh ideas and i just remembered i have someone who might want to playtest all the time. Hopefuly next update y’all will see progress.

Less Sad Update 8/29/16
Just to clarify what is up and if things are gonna happen i wanted to make a follow up post.
I, Zach, am busy with a lot of different activities i run during or after school. -I am part of Improv and this take up usually 3 days after school for our practice and shows. It is a huge part of my life now. -I am running a DnD5e session for some friends because they all wanted to experience their first real table top RPG and i offered to give them a ride using my improvisation skills. This also helps me branch out with different ideas for tabletops. -I am also running a purely Role playing game called Fall of Magic and this is an experience in itself. I really wanna talk about it but to not go on forever, the way you play is just so wonderful. -On top of this all i have another group of people i play Monster Hunter, Terraria, League of legends, and a session of Kingdom Death with. -Also also my poor GF needs my attention.
I really do love codex. Matt is super busy as well. I will attempt to keep pushing this big update because of the sad position it puts codex (AKA not playable in our eyes)
Jobs and Quirks are DONE. I am moving onto Weapons and Armor idea generation which should be fun.

Sad Update 8/25/16
So i am going to put this out there because it is partially true. Progress has and always will be slow because of both my life and matt’s life. We both go to school, we both work, we both have a life and a SO. Jokes aside we actually do get busy.
I have less excuses because i am usually free to do whatever (minus gaming) at work. But i do sorta have some reason to my slowness and it might seem kinda harsh.
Lately Matt has been really busy or i can’t reach him and it makes development hard. I fucked up our last update by creating Dodge Value and the armor system without asking him about an opinion. It wasn’t the best design decision and so we decided to look into more ways to do defenses and such.
We are well under way into our new idea of new starting weps, armors, and a much more in depth upgrade system for both. Matt got really busy starting into it so i sorta halted because i really didn’t want to fuck up again. I also really enjoy bouncing ideas of someone because its the best way to design.
I am sorry for slowing down so much. I have been working on Non-Combat really hard. I know it’s direction. It will get done today.
Matt, if you read this man send a quick message. Hope you are alright. Codex is ours not mine and id love to get your opinions back.

Progress Incoming 5-17-16
Hey everyone Zach here. School just got out and i have 2 weeks of laid back time here at work. Hopefully, during this time period i can knock out a lot of our big to do list for v3.6.
Oh hey about that... So v3.6 was supposed to be just a noncombat update. Due to recent events we are smashing it together with the new systems rework. Just for an overview of things to come:
- Jobs, Hobbies, & Quirks - Non combat progression - Removal of Dodge Value (DV) - Addition of new “Reaction” Abilties - Addition of new “Fighting Arts” - Complete Weapons overhaul - Complete Armor overhaul - Player Sheet tweaks
To also clarify this was supposed to be the last BIG update but not anymore. To clarify what this update won’t cover:
- Artifacts - Class re-balance - Class re-wording
None of these will get love this update because we are heavily focused on pushing the game back to a playable state. We honestly believe the current Weapon and Armor state is detrimental to the game and hence why we are putting such strong emphasis on fixing it.
