Personal Mini Retreat

I’ve been thinking of sometime soon-ish getting a hotel room and having a mini retreat, for a weekend focusing on magic and rituals.

I have my usual rituals and practices I can do, but I wonder, what else could I do, or experiment with?

Ramblings about my Shared Astral Temple

Apparently, astral temples, or inner temples, are not uncommon among magical practitioners. Mostly they are personal places, for individual magical peeps. But also really like the idea of shared astral temples, which I’ve seen used in a couple of systems of magic.

About two years ago, an online friend and I started creating our own temple, which we would enter and work on, and in, at least once a week. We did this for a while, just the two of us, and then more recently, I invited some new people to join our temple ritual time.

I figured, more people working with the temple makes it stronger, or develop more quickly. But also I just want to feel like I’m participating in this thing with other people, connecting on some other realm of existence. An imagined place, but still real in some sense of the word. And it is real. We created it, it exists when we think about it, or even when we’re not thinking about it.

Anyway, where was I going with this?

Well, turns out it’s kind of hard to have other people be as invested in the thing as I am. I’ve thought about opening it up for more people to join, and share our experiences online. I even started making a grimoire focused around the temple.

But there’s been personal conflicts and confusion, and I don’t even feel like I know what I’m doing most of the time.

But still, I really like my astral temple and having spirit guests in it, whether they are connected to physical human people or not. My tulpa/thoughtform now works in the astral temple, cleaning up and tending to the guests. I guess it is a kind of busy place now, even if it’s mostly on my end (and imagined, but whatever, it’s fun).

Ancestor Work:

There are a couple of types of ancestors that have the potential to be worked with and honored. These different types of ancestors have other connections to you and can help you out in various ways. From these practices, you understand that your ancestors are still with you in some form and can still help impact your life. You will be able to honor and communicate with your ancestors to gain insight and understanding that you might not have gotten any other way. You can build relationships with all of those you have a connection with already that you may not even know that you are connected to. As I categorize them here, the types of ancestors are blood ancestors, associated ancestors, land ancestors, and tradition ancestors.

Blood Ancestors:

Your blood ancestors are any entity from which one is descended, going back to prehistoric times. You will be able to determine more of your blood ancestor lineage through historical records or DNA testing. Through the power of working with your blood ancestors, you can more closely connect with yourself and your body’s lineage. This includes entities, not Homo sapiens, connected to you from human evolution.

Associated Ancestors:

Associated ancestors are ancestors that you consider part of your lineage but are not connected to you by blood. These would be friends and family members that are not blood related, and these individuals are connected to you in such a way that you have considered them worthy of your ancestral veneration. This includes non-human animals.

Land Ancestors:

Land Ancestors are those who lived on the land before you and who also called it home. Land ancestors are knowledgeable about the area and are significant entities to contact if you want to work with the land better. This also includes non-human animals.

Tradition Ancestors:

Tradition ancestors are ancestors who practiced or were a part of a tradition or group you are now a part of. These types of ancestors are connected via practices and understandings. This would be like practicing magick and then honoring the magickal practitioners before you. These ancestors would be able to provide guidance and understanding around your tradition and the practices of a specific group or way of thinking.

Connecting, Honoring, and Working With Your Ancestors:

To connect with your ancestors, you should first spend time learning about them and how they did things. Look into their lives, the things they did, and the Legacy they left behind. Learn about their likes and interests, and study them as thoroughly as possible. Looking into the tradition that you practice and how they honor their ancestors is also a good way of understanding your ancestors. This information may provide you with insights that will allow you to honor and work with them more effectively. You are also able to pick and choose what ancestors you work with in case you do not want to work with some for specific reasons.

You can honor your ancestors by dedicating actions in their name, building shrines to them, and making offerings to their spiritual beings. You can perform ancestral prayers to communicate, venerate your ancestors, and even ask for aid. You can also invite your ancestors into your dreams so that you may interact in the dreamscape.

Setting up ancestral shrines and altars allows you to make a spiritual connection to your ancestors and to have a place where that spiritual connection is grounded. You will want to make sure that this place is cleansed physically and spiritually wherever you say it up. In these places, you will be able to communicate with your ancestors telling them about your life and being while also being able to provide them with offerings. Through these places of communication, you will also be able to ask your ancestors for help and advice in many aspects of your life, and your ancestors may help you by protecting you and guiding you through the course of your life.

The ancestor shrines and altars can be very simple or can be extravagant. They can include pictures of your ancestors, items that you associate with them, graveyard dirt from their graves, items they owned, or even pieces of them, much like bones or ashes. You would also be able to include things such as ritual supplies and places for offerings. You could go through the process of offering them something that you know that they enjoyed in their lives or things that you think they might like. You can also meditate at these places to bring your ancestors into your meditations so that they will be able to meditate with you, and you will be able to communicate with them in that liminal space. You can go through the process of bringing power to your shrines and altars by calling forth your ancestors to be in this place and bless the area in which it is.

Temple Ritual

I’ve been doing a regular weekly temple ritual, solitary in physical, but with a couple other people online, for a couple of years or so.

I was thinking of maybe making this block mostly about that, and opening our temple up to more people.

Although I don’t really have many followers and I don’t know how to get more. Possibly just by posting more? Reblogging things?

I wish I remembered what this was for so I’d know if it worked or not.

After seeing emoji spells on tumblr, I figured I could do something similar in Minecraft.

This is a spell for helping me complete a project on time. The signed book has a typed invocation, the enchanted book is for Efficiency V and the potion is for swiftness II. The diamond shovel is a wand, sort of. (The map is unrelated).

This was done in a creative mode world I have been using to build stuff related to real life goals and accomplishments.

Probably doing a spell like this in survival mode would be more powerful because it would take more effort to gather the materials. Is that how magick works? I’m still not sure.

Welcome back, me

I haven’t used this tumblr account (this blog? do we call them that?) in 4 or 5 years. And I barely used it before that.

What have I been up to, magically? That’s what this blog is about, right? If I remember correctly, yes.

Anyway, I have been continuing my magical and spiritual practices. Aidan Wachter’s book, Six Ways was a great help with getting things to finally click with me. I’ve been doing a regular, weekly Temple Ritual.

In August of 2021 I started reading and doing Josephine McCarthy’s Quareia course. It’s been great for giving me direction, and reminding me to slow things down.

I worked on the course pretty strong for a few months, and then stopped for another few months, and just this month started getting back into it. More months on than off, so that’s good, I think. This cycle of going strong and then taking a break is to be expected.

Should I continue journaling about this stuff here? Is that something I am even able to do? I guess we’ll see.

Experiments with Thoughtforms and Divination

I have been working with a thoughtform (aka a tulpa) for many years now. It feels like progress has been exceptionally slow.

Last night I tried using geomancy as a tool to help me communicate with her.

I read someplace recently that described divination as languages to use to communicate with your Higher Self, or subconscious, or whatever. This sounded good to me.

So I imagine that she can influence the pebbles I use to generate the symbols. I did a simple, quick method of randomly rolling two symbols and combining those for a third, then using those three symbols to figure out what her response is.

There was some really good readings, I think. The answers seemed to fit well with her personality. Of course I realize part of that is me interpreting the symbols to fit with how I think she would answer. But isn’t that how it works anyway?

Well, whatever. It was fun and beneficial and I look forward to doing it more.

Recently I found out about geomancy. I’ve been able to get into it way better than I could with tarot. I made these cards to help me remember the symbol meanings (designed the cards myself), and I use those pebbles to create the figures for a reading. And I made a cute little crochet pouch to keep the pebbles in.

Talking To Spirits Via Pendulum

A lot of people seem to have issues using pendulums to get specific answers, to identify a spirits species or to find out things about who they are or how they look so here are some basic questions that can be answered with yes no or maybe. Honestly this is all just like playing that game Guess Who. 

What Are You

Are you a ___? : pretty basic just go down the list of all the things you can think of until you either run out or get a yes.  

EX: Demon, Angel, Vampire, Werewolf, Shapeshifter, Hellhound, Harpy, etc

Are you more animal like? (Dragons, hounds, etc)

Are you more humanoid?

Are you a human spirit?

Are you a Death related spirit ?? (Dullahan, Grim, Reaper, Banshee, etc)

Are you an elemental spirit? (fire, earth, water, air, ice, snow, lightning)

^^this is usually a subcategory. For example if you get water and faerie you are looking for a species of fae connected to water

Are you connected to a specific religion or culture

If yes specify which and then go through the list? religion? Abrahamic? Culture? Irish?? 

This is where shit get touchy so be respectful of other cultures and their spirits okay?

Are you something I already work with?

For spirit workers with a large spirit family this could be helpful

If you get a maybe it likely means that they are but a different type. Say you get a maybe and when you go through the types of spirits you work with you get a maybe for vampire. They are likely a different type of vampire than the one you already work with

Is you’re species one well known / known at all by humans?

Yes this does happen, and yes it complicates things a bit

Do you know what humans call you’re kind?

This happens occasionally usually with demons or subcategories of bigger species labels (angels, demons. etc)

Learning Geomancy

Hello imaginary readers.

For a long while I have been trying to occasionally do tarot readings and learn how to do that. I see lots of stuff about tarot all over tumblr and the internet in general. I like the idea of it, and cards are fun. I have three tarot decks.

But I just haven’t been able to get into it. Mostly it feels like a hassle. The meanings of the cards are not obvious to me or easy to remember. As much as I wanted to use tarot cards I just wasn’t feeling it.

Several days ago I learned about geomancy. That divination system with all the dots. A guy in a podcast talked about it and it sounded interesting. It also seemed really complicated at first, but I figured it out fairly quickly.

And now I really enjoy doing geomancy readings. I’ve done a few so far, with some interesting results. I enjoy the whole process involved with this system. I use some pebbles I found in the garden to create the first four symbols. I like the feel and the sound of them. The aesthetics are quite pleasing to me, which is important for any kind of magical craft. I also made cards with the symbols and their meaning. Designed them on photoshop and printed them up. It’s much easier than flipping through pages to find the symbol’s meaning. But I should eventually be able to remember them. There’s on 16 symbols and I already remember the basic meaning for each one.

So yeah, I think I found a pretty good divination method for me.

All of my sigils look like something else because making them look like something else helps me to remember and use them! Different styles work with different People, this just happens to be mine. This is honestly a stupid explanation for it but it’s the best I can come up with.

I made a super quick and simple tarot spread based on taking things “one day at a time”, for those of us who are feeling overwhelmed by a situation. This spread is designed to give fast advice on the day you’re reading for in a non-cluttered way. Hope this helps! I’d love to see people using this so feel free to tag me if you do! :)

Card One- Today’s Challenge: This card is basically self-explanatory. Pull a card to give you a hint about a problem or challenge you may face today.

Card Two- Solution to Problems that may Arise Today: This is the advice card. Pull a card to give you an idea of how to go about solving whatever comes up today. For example, pulling the Queen of Swords could indicate that you need to handle today’s issues with logic and controlled temper, and leave emotions out of it.
