bruce thought jason moved so exactly like nightwing that he assumed "clayface" was trained to imitate nightwing, jason passed himself off as nightwing, is seen flipping around constantly preboot, bruce thought training him was so easy because he's so similar to dick.....and yet, jason's still the first one people jump to when they want compare nightwing to a robin who moves markedly differently than him and isn't as acrobatic in style. okay.

Average Jason Todd fic: he was Alfred’s favorite because he was good at cooking and would stay quiet while he ate/cooked with the butler

Me, because I cannot resist angst and realism: Jason was a street kid who only ended up with the Waynes in the first place because he was hungry enough to steal their tires. Of course he would always eat whatever Alfred gave him, learn as much about cooking as he could and stay silent during meals. It’s canonical that he felt like a charity case and lived in fear that Bruce would decide to kick him out again—he was preparing for the day he would once again be living day to day, only worrying about the next meal. He was silent because he didn’t know what might set Bruce off, and he thought if he acted like he wasn’t there then many he could stay. He appealed to Alfred because he was quiet, but Alfred did not know enough of his backstory to realize that silence was fear, not just an introverted child.

maybe sharing way too much, but being the caretaker of a parent is already hard, being the caretaker of an addict parent is even worse, the trauma you're left with is jarring

you recognize the drugs they're on by the smell alone, money, furniture, food and clothes missing bc they sell it to feed the addition, having to change and bathe your parent bc they're so drugged up they soil themselves and won't notice, don't even get me started on the violent outbursts

Jason probably did all of this in Gotham before he was even thirteen years old, but to this fandom being sent to a boarding school is worse

i also sort of wish people would talk more about the way jason's parents probably fucked him up. like tim's parents neglected him and that IS bad (I get it! also a child of neglect on my end) but like. i dunno. addiction is one helluva thing to grow up around. especially when you are put in a caretaker position for said parent
