I have no simple explanation for what's going on in this, but it sure looks cool!
#okay longer explanation can go in the tags#the prompt was the story of bacchus and ariadne#and included a couple articles that talked about how ariadne's sleep was often representative of death#including having her sleeping in the arms of thanatos in some depictions#and there are a couple sarcophagi and tombs that use this story as a frieze#that often replace the face of ariadne with the face of the deceased#so all this yielded:#swapping faces to reach death#the eternal sleep#bacchus wants to rest too#anyways#my art#art#comics#illustration
