I haven't been too active here on the art blog because I've been posting a lot about the genocide of Palestinians on my main blog. However, I still need to speak up where I can. Bombing hospitals, murdering children, and leading citizens to safe zones only to kill them is inexcusable. I am disgusted by Israel and the IOF, and even moreso, I am disgusted by the US for funding this genocide.

I lost both of my pets this year. They both lived long lives, and died of old age, but both also had their deaths come by surprise.

My dog Dexter passed in mid-May. He was a goofy-looking, food-motivated little man, a jug (pug/Jack Russell). He had his fair share of small dog syndrome, but his bark was usually worse than his bite. He loved to snuggle in cozy blankets with us and would stop at nothing to get an apple. He hated getting his fur wet, but maybe he'd forgive you, if and only if, you gave him his dinner shortly after you walked him in the rain. Maybe.

My cat Stripes passed in late October. She was an extroverted lady who was with me since I was six. An uncommon orange molly, she was a loud and attention-seeking girl who loved belly rubs and even fetch (with ponytail holders and rubber bands). Even into her old age, she was quite spry and active for a long time, even in the same year she passed in. She had a lot of nicknames, such as Stripesy, Bunny, Cuddlebug, and Muffin.

They lived long, happy lives. Stripes was so sweet that her vets would frequently talk about how nice she was, and Dexter managed to make it longer than expected due to his initial life scrounging around a stadium in my city, while dealing with infections and illnesses.

But that doesn't mean I don't miss them.

In reality, though, Constance was tormented, for every time she slept she dreamed of those men at Myrtle’s house—and the dreams terrified her. Often she woke with a cry, her heart pounding in her ears. When this happened at night, and she found herself alone in the dark library, she would lie there a long time petrified with fear, trying to muster the courage to stand up and turn on the light. And when the dreams came during the day (“napmares,” she called them), her relief upon waking was instantly replaced by the fear that she’d been heard crying out, and she would hold her breath and squeeze her eyes shut, dreading discovery.

This went on for weeks and weeks.

And then finally one night, waking in a fit of despair, Constance angrily commanded herself to feel better. Her face turned beet-red, her fists bunched into tight balls, and with all the fierceness she could muster (it happened to be no small amount) she said, “Forget it, Constance! Forget those men! Forget everything that’s happened! Forget it, forget it, forget it!”

Oh my god, another Mysterious Benedict Society drawing after 3 years, and of course it's another Constance, and I’m craving that good angst.
