reminder that you can and most certainly should be self indulgent in your whump writing. no that's not too much blood. yes you should add a whipping scene. you think it's over the top? it's not enough. if you're not giggling and screeching internally and kicking your feet then what even is the point

cages in whump!!

put that guy in a cage!!!! bonus points if it's hanging from a ceiling.. on display like a prized pet.. maybe they ARE a prized pet.. never quite getting used to the hanging sensation.. forced into an overly small space and they have to curl up uncomfortably.. ough

i'm a total sucker for when there's multiple whumpees in multiple cages (especially when hanging from the ceiling) and they can't touch or maybe even speak they just have to share the experience..

maybe bad whumpees are threatened with The Cage. sorry you looked at me weird it's cage time for the next 48 hours. ough

I was introduced to a whumpy game recently!

It's called Enslaved: Odyssey of the West, and it's on steam! It's very cinematic and fun.

There's crumbs of whump in the Ratchet & Clank series, too. Quest for Booty and Into the Nexus are short, but they've got the stuff I remember first. (Plus QfB has space pirates :3c)

Favorite whumpy video game? (That's not final fantasy)

Oooof, not a lot of games have whump, at least the ones I've played haha. It's mostly been Nintendo or Sega games!

I'll go with Fire Emblem Three Houses! That game is FULL of torture, mostly for backstories but STILL. And the shit the main character, Byleth, and many of the other characters go through. Like DAMN.

Still mad that they said "LOL no whump for you" in one particular scene though.

I'm coming up with new character, and I have an ABSOLUTE fat lump of ideas in my head and I like like, I wanna add them all but I can't

It will be a kind of medical/laboratory whump (classic) with a dash of fantasy, and I like it so far (like guyys, look, he's got wires under his eyes!!!)

Initially, it was actually planned as a small reference drawing, but God, I just added shadows under his eyes and he literally became dead inside, and it's so delicious

tell me your ideas about this! I'd like to know if it actually not just a useless piece of stuff I'm just doing over there

living weapons !!!!

a living weapon so heavily conditioned that they don't even talk (unless ordered to, of course.) bonus points if they're put in a mask or helmet or something, and it's ripped off in the middle of a fight to reveal their soulless blank stare. bonus bonus points if they're fighting someone they once knew

living weapons no longer used as weapons, but they're almost unrecoverable. they just don't recognize that they should have the ability to make their own decisions. they still have to be ordered to do anything, even sleep and eat

living weapons turned against people they once knew !!!!!!! now they're feral and unrecognizable but can they really be blamed for their actions when it's whumper puppeting them?

there is no relationship more intimate than that between a living weapon and their handler. it's about loving someone who would kill you without a second thought if ordered!!! someone who knows nothing but duty!!! seeing into the jaws of a monster and clinging rather than running!! you're in love with a living weapon in the same way you're in love with a fancy sword.. they're beautiful and do their job well but could slit your throat just as easily as anyone else's..

living weapons who treat their own inanimate weapons like people... hugging them kissing them biting them not letting anyone else touch or maintain or sharpen them.. mmmm

caretaker is losing their mind trying to help heavily conditioned whumpee, but nothing seems to be getting through to them. it's like talking to a brick wall! in one ear and out the other.

that is, until something forces whumpee to speak, and caretaker feels like the dumbest person in the world.

whumpee wasn't ignoring them, they don't speak english.

Hey idk what writer/artist/creative needs to hear this but: You can create the most garbage self-indulgent poorly made full-of-cliches awkward ugly piece of art on the entire planet and you're still allowed to be proud of it and share it with the world. In fact, I outright encourage you to be proud. You deserve it. I love you. Keep making things.

when the happy-go-lucky comic relief character is suddenly so very quiet. too hurt or exhausted or both to even try getting up to their usual antics anymore.

The whumpee had been captured and caged somewhere completely unfamiliar, by someone who they didn’t understand, and in an environment they were not accustomed to. The whumper made many mistakes as well- sure, the whumper “disciplined” the whumpee, but their attempt at care was completely wrong, and it just made the whumpee feel sick and afraid, they just wanted to go home.

Okay someone was talking about name changes, but what about giving something a name? A thing that wasn't supposed to have a name at all being given one and that name becomes a shackle to an identity they never asked for or wanted. It limits them and controls them in ways they never should have been.

Stubborn/stoic whumpees are great and all but, as someone with several chronic illnesses, I feel like there needs to be more recognition of whumpees who aren't trying to be stubborn; they just didn't know that that particular pain was something to be concerned about unlike all the other very similar pain that happens always!

Important question: is your character “I have bore a thousand storms and can bear a thousand more” stoic or “I have bore a thousand storms and my foundations are crumbling, my walls are trembling, my structure is unsound and one more might prove to be my fall” stoic?
