Hatori had few interactions up until now since his arrival at Spirale, but he was glad to have met Rinoa so soon. Even if he didn’t show much about his own feelings, she seemed warm. It was nice for a change.
“Not really. This place… It’s much bigger than I anticipated.” It would be a lie to pretend he hadn’t tried to. For now he had at least found a place where he felt a little better; the cherry blossoms. “It’s nice to meet you too.” And he meant it.
Tumblr media
“No, she doesn’t bother me at all.” Although he never thought of having a pet himself, it would be absurd of him not taking some kind of liking toward other animals. Of course, some of his family members had even more reason to like dogs, but Hatori was also fine with them.
@dragonlostinwinter
     Despite Hatori’s quiet demeanour, Rinoa didn’t mind. His atmosphere wasn’t silently deadly that it was suffocating it was just that quiet hum that was a comfort.
     Well, if someone was crazy enough to explore all of Spirale then it makes her wonder who would have been here for that long. “It does seem quite big.” Putting her index finger to her chin in a thoughtful manner before a smile broke her thoughts hearing his returned greetings.
Tumblr media
     Hearing the male’s response Angelo’s tail wagged happily. “She’s happy to hear your answer. So, do you remember how you ended up here?” Arms held behind her as she rocked back an forth on her heels Angelo seemed to explore the area they were at though not straying far from Rinoa.

asernolonger‌:
If she were to be frank, Rinoa’s tendency to just speak whatever she thought without always necessarily thinking it through was endearing to Selenie. The ex-dragoon was prone to the same behavior, after all. It was just that their thoughts seemed to be quite different. Selenie guessed that Rinoa must’ve had a somewhat-sheltered upbringing, at least in comparasion to her brutal, unforgiving, and war-driven upbringing.
And her attempt at explaining herself in regard’s to her finding Selenie’s name…. pretty (Thank the Fury that no one else that knew her was around at the moment, she would never live it down) was just plain adorable to the adventurer. Was it really an explanation? Not entirely. But was it still amusing and adorable? Most definitely.
“To be fair, it’s not like I really know what names mean. One of my friends back in Eorzea-his name’s Alphinaud, and his skill with knowledge matches my skill with a spear-told me that my name loosely means ‘moon armor’ when translated back to common Eorzean. No idea if he’s right or wrong, and no idea what his or any other names mean. So I guess it works, no matter how you slice it.” She admitted, shrugging. She was no master of languages herself, unless you count knowing practically every swear that existed in common Eorzean.
It seemed that the revelation of people wanting to kill Selenie for her looks somehow deeply upset and shocked Rinoa. The reaction that the ex-dragoon got in response to what she’d told Rinoa made Selenie wonder just how sheltered she was. Was the idea truly so alien to her? Or was there just not nearly as much racial diversity in Rinoa’s world as there was in Selenie’s? Hells if Selenie knew.
“Yeah. Thankfully, bringing about an end to a thousand-year war with bloody fucking dragons, having friends in good places, and the nation home to most of the people who want me dead for my looks being reformed in general has mostly lessened the number of people who want me dead because of my looks, but I sincerely doubt they’re all gone. And besides, when you’ve killed gods and kicked the ever-loving shite out of the Garlean Empire’s forces again and again, you tend to piss people off enough that they want you dead for different reasons. Honestly, it’s a miracle that I’ve managed to cheat death enough times to be able to live to the age of forty-one!” She told Rinoa. Yes, despite her appearance, Selenie was indeed forty-one years old. She couldn’t wait to see what reaction that information drew out of Rinoa.
Angelo, however, was most certainly still there, and most certainly there to lighten the somber mood. Honestly, Selenie wanted one of her own now. She knew how to cook, and certainly could take the dog on walks, and that was all, right? But she wasn’t about to kidnap Angelo…. or would it be dognap? Was that even a word? Like Selenie gave a rat’s arse anyways. She shared in the laughter.
“Haha, if only! I’d own a whole pack’s worth of them if they existed back home! It’d be nice to come home after a hard day’s work to a whole lot of fluffy friends!” She agreed, reaching down to give Angelo some more lovely head scratches.
And as Selenie gave her vague excuse for an explanation to Rinoa, it seemed to enrapture the young woman. It probably disheartened her too, even from what little she was being told. Selenie wondered how much the young woman actually understood of what the ex-dragoon said, and what conclusions she was coming to. After all, Selenie had no idea if the likes of what happened a thousand years ago, just before Ishgard’s founding, could even remotely happen in Rinoa’s world.
There was a small part of the Elezen woman that secretly envied Rinoa’s naivety. She wished she could let go and be as seemingly carefree as the Hyur-like woman before her was. But years of mistreatment, suffering, and war had so cruelly denied Selenie such a luxury, and not even she, with all her power, could turn back time itself. Fate was rarely kind, but it seemed to have been rather generous to Rinoa. Selenie wondered if Rinoa would be different, had she endured the repeated tragedies that Selenie had. Perhaps so, perhaps not. Not like they’d ever be able to find out.
Ah, she needed to do this more often-taking off her helmet in the open world. The feeling of the wind in her hair, the feeling of gentle aether brushing against her horns, and the sounds she could hear with her heightened hearing-it was all so very liberating. All unhindered, all free….
…Aaaand Rinoa was staring. Again. Did they not even have a race with pointed ears on Rinoa’s world? Selenie was worried that Rinoa was going to faint at this rate! Luckily, Selenie was swift and strong-if Rinoa did faint, Selenie could catch her with ease.
…Well, that was honestly the reaction Selenie expected. Poorly-contained excitement. She nodded, smiling.
“Go for it. Like I said, I’ll let you know if you hurt me.” She told her. She waited patiently as Rinoa touched the membranes of her wings. It was adorable, the young woman’s curiosity about Selenie as a whole, and, by extent, her world. She wasn’t as knowledgeable as the likes of Alphinaud or Urianger, but she would try her damnedest anyways.
@wingedprinxess
@asernolonger
     People thought Rinoa was pretty naive, and in truth - yes, she was. Rinoa knew she was but to a certain extent. The young women were just so headstrong and wanted to do what was right she even forgot about the consequences that sometimes the actions Forest Owl caused or she herself did cause would bring a fight or even worse.
     She knew, but she just didn’t want to face it. In truth, she was a coward in that aspect. The woman just wants to be helpful and in truth she was scared and Squall did tell her - he was upfront with her and she was with him. He told her how the world really was, she knew, but she didn’t know how bad the world really was.
     Shaking those thoughts from her mind, she was here in Spirale now and not back home. Not with the rest of the Forest Owls, Selphie, Irvine, Quistis, or Squall. She focused on Seline’s words as the smile just never seemed to leave the women’s face. “Even though I don’t know all about your world, or even language itself. I will agree that translation is correct.” She had an expression on that pretty much meant you couldn’t change the girl’s mind even if you wanted to fight for it.
     Of course, there was always a difference within the system at her homeworld, but not really much of racial. More so of the class system, mainly in Timber where her hideout and headquarters are at. Those who were in higher positions and had the money, they only cared about themselves and war while those in need of help and poverty were dying and Rinoa for one couldn’t and can’t handle that. She turned her back on her well-to-do family, well mainly on her father since her mother passed.
     Attentive as Seleine spoke her eyes widen in surprise once she gave away her age. “No way!” Shouting her reply Rinoa stopped with touching her wings and did a once around look at the female in awe. Stopping at her side she spoke once more when she could gather her thoughts. “Sorry, but you don’t look forty-one.” Rinoa began to wonder if she would look young when she was Seleine’s age. “You really could have fooled me.” Laughing she wrapped her arms behind her back. “Well, I’m glad you’re still alive and here. Else we wouldn’t have met.”
    She wondered if her optimism was bothering Seleine. She knew that when she first met Squall he seemed irritated by it, but as she hoped and as it happened he had grown to take it in stride. Rinoa never really knew because as much as she pretty much bothered him about being open with his feelings, it usually failed. “You’ve killed gods before?” Again she was in awe, was there something Seleine DIDN’Tdo?
     “Do you not have, erm any animals that could be tamed back in your homeworld?” Angelo feeling the nails from Seleine scratching her she let her tail wag in happiness and she leaned into the scratches. Watching the interaction between her furry friend and her new one she couldn’t help but swell with happiness. Angelo was growing used to Squall, but because they haven’t ran into him or anyone else from her homeworld she’s just been so on edge. Making sure everyone they have talked to didn’t mean harm, Rinoa wanted Angelo to know it was okay to be at ease in this new world.
              So far they haven’t run into any trouble.
     Even though she didn’t fully understand all that Seleine was saying, she knew better to ask much more. Even though she was pushy she could also see the talk was painful for the older woman. She mainly got some of it and that was good enough for her. She wouldn’t push Seleine till she wanted to speak more on her own.
     Fingers nimbly started to touch her wings once more enjoying the feeling and never in her life feeling what wings even felt like. Wasn’t even she could just walk up to an enemy that was a dragon and just start feeling their wings. That was mad suicide right there. Stopping with her actions and grabbed the older woman by the arm and started to tug her towards somewhere. “Let’s go get some food.” Angelo hearing the word food stood up tail wagging, even more, the ravenette lost track of time while being here, but it should be close to noon or something to eat. “Anywhere you would like to eat at?”
     Even though she’s been here for almost a week there were still places at the boardwalk that she had yet to explore, so why not look what there was with her new friend.

"Are you human?"
Blinking in confusion she cocked her head to the side. “Of course I’m human.” She was going to ask if she was too but didn’t. You may never know who actually was human in Spirale. They may look like it, but they really aren’t. Looks can be deceiving.

          Blue hues widen consequent to hearing her inquiry, and following that reaction does his head then shift back to her direction to address her. “You never heard of it before?” Most of the individuals here had known of it, or so he had assumed, so he’s more or less surprised by the question. Nonetheless, he spares whatever time he’s granted during this intermission to quickly and quietly explain it the game, its functions and its objectives. “It’s simple really. You just, uh—” Pausing in between his speech, he takes a few short steps to her gaming platform; thereafter he reaches out to grab hold of the plastic carved gun placed on the side. “Take aim and shoot the enemy units. Er, the ones highlighted in red here…” As he offers his explanation, he makes sure add in gestures towards the screen for further guidance.
Tumblr media
          “Since it’s a co-op though, the goal is to basically take down as many as you can within the time limit. Think you can handle that?”
@armigeraction
     Giving the male a sheepish smile as her indication of never hearing the game before. In truth video games weren’t her forte per se. She never really had any time to sit down and get involved with video games in her world. She was just so busy trying to get ahead of the life to get her plans in motion with the Forest Owls, rarely in truth, they all never had time to sit back and enjoy life. They were always on the go.
Tumblr media
     Listening to him explain how the game mechanics work she nodded her head trying her best to follow and understand. Taking the plastic carve gun from him she pointed it at the screen as she beamed a smile his way. “Yeah, I think I can handle that.” Doesn’t seem TOO hard... thinking to herself. She didn’t want to look like a complete fool in front of her new potential friend. Pumping her fists including the one with the plastic gun she was pumped. “Let’s start this.”
    In truth though, Rinoa somewhat failed the first few minutes, but slowly she began to grasp the game. She’d never played or seen a game like this before in her life so at first it startled her and confused her, but she began to enjoy it. Even though it wasn’t real life she wondered if this adrenaline was what Lupin and Irvine felt when they shot their first bullet at enemies or just for fun.

“Well, if you really wanna know some of my other tricks, I’ll just have to show ya! Like,”  he began, his voice drifting for a moment. Drawing his weapon, he pulled the slide back and smirked. Then, he aimed his Walther P38 replica right at himself, finger on the trigger and— “This!”
POP!
The trigger was pulled, but instead of a BB shooting out, a flower popped out of its barrel and the thief grinned, chuckling.  “See, I’m much more than just a gunman, I’m a thief! I’m chock FULL of tricks!”
Tumblr media
He plucked the flower and bent forward, holding it out to her.  “Sorry if I scared you there,”  he chuckled, an apologetic sparkle in his eye. Standing once more, he grinned.  “I figured it’d be more thrilling to just show you!”
He twirled the gun on his forefinger, then slung it right into the holster inside of his blue jacket, just under his left arm.  “I’ve got more tricks up my sleeve, but then I’d just be spoiling the surprise!”
@sneakthieflupin
    Eyes blinking in confusion as she watched his actions it wasn’t until she saw him put his gun to his head. Trying not to physically show she was freaking out as much as she was internally she was about ready to step forward to stop him till she heard the noise.
POP!
    Feeling herself continue to blink like a dummy she saw him holding the flower out to her. It took her mind a few minutes to reel what just happened. After her mind was able to catch up letting out a sigh of relief she felt herself laughing and wiping a tear away and plucking the flower from his hand. “It’s alright, gave me a heart attack that's for sure, but what an amazing trick!”
Tumblr media
    The adrenaline was coursing through her veins knowing that he wasn’t just a gunman but also a thief. An actual thief, who would have thought! She could feel her bouncing on the soles of her feet in excitement. “So, tell me Lupin the thief.” Making sure to put emphases on thief she smiled brightly. “What other tricks can you surprise me with?” Her eyes shone with pure excitement and the thrill to see what else he had up his sleeves.

It was a relief for Hatori as well to meet someone in Spirale after all. Everything was a mess - that including himself, although he was good at keeping this inside him - but seeing a friendly face felt better than he imagined.
“Yes, I was. Just a couple of days ago.” This girl seemed lively. She appeared to have an energy similar to Honda Tohru, or even Hana. Still, it was too soon to tell.
“I’m Sohma Hatori. But feel free to call me Hatori.” No need to avoid first name basis, after all. Hatori didn’t have anything to hide or status to keep in this Spirale place.
Tumblr media
He shifted his gaze downwards, looking at the her dog. “And this one is..?”
@dragonlostinwinter
     Hatori seemed like a good person, despite how he may appear on the outside. Happy knowing that he just didn’t give her the cold shoulder Rinoa took that in stride - even if he did she would probably do her best to attempt to get him to talk with her.
Tumblr media
     “Have you gotten a chance to explore Spirale yet?” In truth, even though she’s been here for over almost two weeks, it was pretty much impossible to really explore all of Spirale and what it had to give. Even in a day, you couldn’t see everything in one place - there was just so much to see and everything here was so different.
     “It's nice to meet you Hatori.” Seeing him cast his gaze towards Angelo she could see her companion sniff him sensing something was different about him, but nonetheless barked in enthusiasm to Hatori. “Her name is Angelo, I’m sorry if she bothers you.” Giving a sheepish smile, Angelo was a good dog, she just was curious and wanted to make sure that the people Rinoa interacted with were safe.

Admittedly, he was a touch surprised. She’d chased him down the boardwalk, latching onto his sleeve. His feet came to a halt and the thief looked over his shoulder, a briefly confused expression on his face as he listened to Rinoa compliment his skills.
A grin stretched across his face and he spun around.  “Why, thank you, young lady! I’ve got all sorts of tricks like that up my sleeve!”  He wasn’t sure what got her so excited over his skill, but he could hanker a guess that she knew someone with similar skills. Enough to know how to appreciate a good gunman when she saw one.
“Though I’ll admit, my partner back home’s even better than I am—but not by much!”  He smiled more sheepishly before his confidence took over once more. A straight and powerful stance, he then took a very proper and smooth bow.  “My name’s Lupin the Third!”
@sneakthieflupin
Tumblr media
     What a peculiar fellow he was. Rinoa liked it though, she found him easy to talk to as he spoke. Maybe if she ever ran into Irvine - or if she ever did then she would have to be sure that they would meet. It would be interesting to see a showdown between the two.
     Letting her grasp go of his sleeve she gave a warm smile before she introduced herself. “Well, it’s a pleasure to meet you Lupin! My name’s Rinoa Heartilly.” Funny that he was the first person that she actually gave her first and last name. It was only fair since he pretty much gave his whole title to her.
    Once more curiosity sparked her. “What other tricks do you have up those sleeves of yours Lupin?” Would he show any more of his shooting skills? Whatever it was she sure couldn’t wait. “If I ever run into my companion then I would like for you two to meet. I’m sure you two would get along with guns.”

          Taken in by the attraction of quick five-round competitions, he soon after finds himself playing off against someone who had held triumphant for a few bouts now; they had been shy two rounds from an overall victory for this particular competition, until of course, his unexpected arrival. It’s not a win that he had anticipated, so he feels even more overjoyed once he sees his player name pop up on the screen, with the word ‘wins’ listed under it. Yet before he’s given time to properly celebrate, the next contestant takes the stand. Sparing a moment, his gaze observes the person in question before he shifts back, returning his attention to the screen showcasing a rather well known fps game.
@armigeraction
Tumblr media
     Here she goes again, walking around meeting people and trying to figure out this place. Even though by now she should just really give up. Her attention was shifted to the arcade area watching everyone play then switch to something else. It was then that she noticed two individuals playing one. Curious she watched from behind trying to grasp that game. Once the person left she took the place in their stead. Seeing the male spare her a moment she shot him a smile before speaking. “So, what’s this game?”

asernolonger‌:
Selenie had to admit, Rinoa’s testing out of her name was interesting. They must not have anything akin to Elezen, or at least nothing that employed Elezen names. But then… complimenting the name? Sure, Selenie sounded… pretty, she supposed, but….
“Er, thanks? I must ask though…. how does it… fit me? I’m not sure I entirely understand.” She asked awkwardly. The poor girl was obviously quite flustered right now. It was honestly somewhat endearing and very adorable. She couldn’t resist a chuckle.
“If it’s any consolation, it’s not the most obvious reaction I’ve had. And, at the very least, your curiosity is actually just that. I’ve dealt with people who wanted my head just because of how I looked, as cruel as that sounds.” She assured. Better innocent, child-like intrigue than a prejudice driven by a thousand years of outright lies and war, as far as Selenie was concerned.
…Well, that was a bit of a shock. To be fair, Selenie was no expert on animals (other than how best to kill them with a spear and then harvest them for all they were worth), but still, the name Angelo sounded male… but who was she to judge? If anything, she had a feeling the poor creature was the most confused of them all right now, if the endless sniffing was anything to go by. Poor thing probably had no idea what to register the ex-dragoon as in her head.
“I can imagine… you certainly caught me off-guard. Eh, but I’m no expert on the ins and outs of names, nor your fluffy friend here. After all, most four-legged creatures in my world are either mounts or… they want to kill you. Or have been trained to want to kill you. War hounds and the like.” She admitted.
“Well, I think most sane men and women would agree with the idea of liking to not have to fend off some bloodthirsty creature, no matter its shape or size.” She added, chuckling yet again.
Eventually, the dog seemed to just decide to give up and return to Rinoa’s side. Fair enough, Selenie decided. The dog seemed to be happy and quite friendly. She was sure the Doman children would love to meet Angelo, or another dog like her, especially after having gotten used to fearing Garlean war hounds every day….
And then, came the inevitable question. Blunt and straightforward in form, but very difficult to answer, for a multitude of reasons. Selenie didn’t want to outright traumatize Rinoa with the truth of Ishgard, the Dragonsong War, or how she went from a skilled dragoon to the Warrior of Light. Such was a tale that even grown men and women struggled to swallow-and Rinoa looked very young. BUt she had to give her something… she was thankful she had repeated practice with all sorts of different people.
“It’s very complicated, and it’s not very pretty. At all. I suppose you could think of me as a dragon-empowered warrior who is also blessed by a goddess of sorts. That’s the simplest I think I can make it. Sorry if it’s vague and not all that clear. The exact details-at least the ones I understand-are very, very, very ugly. You don’t want to know, that’s for certain.” She answered, voice suddenly much more somber. It still hurt to think about, and thinking about it too much always brought forth a raging storm of internal conflict, so she tried not to dwell on it. It’s not like she could change anything about it, so what was the point?
Ah, but there was one thing she hadn’t answered that was pretty easy to answer. She took off her helmet, tucking it underneath her left arm.
“Also, while I am indeed a woman, I am not a ‘human’, as you put it. I am technically what is called an ‘Elezen’. Where I come from, what you call ‘humans’ would be called ‘Hyur’. There aren’t really any other Elezen who look like me, but I still have a few Elezen traits. Namely, my height, and my ears.” She further explained, gesturing first to her overall height, and then, to her pointed ears.
She knew Rinoa’s intentions were innocent enough. She wasn’t going to attack her for asking what would normally be an easy and simple question. There was no way she could’ve possibly known how painful the question was for the disgraced Ishgardian. If anything, Selenie preferred outright bluntness to awkward dancing around. She could only hope that the answers she had given would be enough. At least, until she was sure Rinoa could handle it.
…And, poor thing, she was clearly enraptured by Selenie’s appearance. She had unconsciously started moving closer, likely wanting to touch one of Selenie’s draconic features. She hardly blamed Rinoa for wanting to touch and make sure that she was indeed real. She snapped out of her trance soon enough, and the reaction was exactly what Selenie was coming to expect from her by now.
“Don’t be. You’re just curious. Very curious. And that’s perfectly fine by me. I’ll take curiosity over persecution any day.” She assured. She then smiled, her fangs easily visible.
“If you want to touch something, go for the wings. My horns are a bit sensitive, and my tail can be a bit twitchy when it’s touched. Don’t have complete mastery over it, and it’s quite strong. But the wings shouldn’t hurt you. I’ll let you know if you start to hurt me, if that’s what you’re worried about.” She said, letting her wings fall back a bit.
@wingedprinxess
@asernolonger
    Eyes widen at the question Rinoa tapped her chin in thought. “Well...” After a moment of silence as she gathered her thoughts the lightbulb went off in her mind. “Hmm, well I don’t know any other name in your uhm language.” She wasn’t sure how to word it properly but she continued. “But even if there were other names I just feel in my heart that, they wouldn’t suit you.”
    Nodding her head after the explanation she was pretty proud of it. It was just a gut feeling the girl had. Even if Seleine were to give her a list of different names she would probably maybe find them good, but it just wouldn’t... work. There were those names that just stuck to someone.
    People wanted her head? God that sounds terrible! Her blood started to boil as Seleine kept talking about the people treating her badly and all of the above. Her expression turned to sadness but only for a split second. “There are people out there that wanted you dead just because of what you look like?” Even though Rinoa just met Seleine she could tell the female could hold her own in a fight, but just knowing people didn’t want to even know her that was terrible.
    Removing the thoughts from her head she let out a light chuckle. “I do agree on that. It would really be a difference if all the four-legged beasts were just like Angelo.” She laughed as the dog's ears perked up hearing her name and cocking her head to the side in confusion for a bit.
    The teen was all ears as she listened intently on Seleine’s words. She could tell that talking about it was still a deep wound to the female, she felt bad to have asked the question, but she had an appreciation for her to answer. But to think that... the goddess would bestow this upon someone. As well, by the way, her sombre face showed Rinoa would take her word for it. In her mind, why would anyone even think of possibly maybe doing experimentation on someone? Even the worst enemy shouldn’t deserve that.
    Rinoa was still naive, and she knew that too. It was because of that she asked questions - without hoping to overstep her boundaries. She knew that there were cruel things in the world, and even more so for other worlds out there. It made her sad and made her hurt. For it to not hurt her since it’s never happened to her but to hear it from someone it just... was painful.
    Attention drawn back to Seleine she watched as she took her helmet off. Elezen... Hyur? The new terms she was hearing confused her but also was fascinating. She was learning so much! She would make sure to write the terms down so she would remember, Rinoa wanted to learn about where Seleine came from - at least try to understand some of the terms she was saying. Her eyes widened in awe at her ears. She had never seen any trait on anyone before! Which would make sense since no one was Elezen.
    It made her happy to know that she wasn’t doing harm with her curious nature. At least, she really hoped it wasn’t doing any harm. She was taken back by her fangs when she smiled but again she was fascinated. It was then when Seleine gave the okay for her to touch her wings. She could feel herself brim with excitement.
Tumblr media
     “R-really!?” She tried to contain her excitement. She had her answer when her wings fall a bit and she slowly reached up. Hands shaking as she felt the wings. “Wow...” She was breathless, the texture was like leather? If not then a mix with a velvet feel? She couldn’t really explain it. Index and thumb slowly rubbing the wing it was really something.
    Seleine was something, and she didn’t mean that in a bad way. In her short meeting with the female, it was like her mind and world were opened to another world. No pun intended.

     Rinoa was slowly getting accustomed to Spirale, sure there were some differences, but aside from that, it was just like she was back home. Currently, today’s adventures led her to the Golden Ward’s boardwalk. It was naturally of course bustling with life as all sorts of life was going on around her.
Tumblr media
    It wasn’t until she heard the popping and some talk that her ears perked up. Coming around the corner she noticed a guy holster a BB gun and speak some words to the game operator. Her eyes were wide with amazement at his shooting skills.
     Just as she was about to compliment the male she was handed the prize he had won. “Uwah!” It took her by surprise and she was silent for a few before she chased after. “Hey!” Reaching him she grabbed the sleeve of his jacket to halt him. “You’re shooting skills are amazing!” He might have been better than Irvine, and keyword might.
Tumblr media
“Think you can beat me?”  The master thief held his BB gun up with an air of confidence. It was the Golden Ward’s boardwalk, and he was getting in on some of the games. He wasn’t exactly talking to anyone specific, but rather the game itself. The point of the game was to pop balloons with darts, but after a few failed (or rigged) attempts, Lupin whipped out his BB gun to give them a real show.
POP! POP! Pa-POP! POP!
Tumblr media
“A little word of advice,”  he told the game operator as he plucked a plush toy from the rack,  “don’t rig your games, you sleazeball robber!”  Pot calling the kettle black here, but Lupin hated getting cheated. Holstering the BB gun, he turned to the nearest person and grinned.
“Hey, this one’s for you!”  And he handed the toy off to the person before walking past a few steps, waving a hand.  “Toodles~!”

Selenie had never seen a hound so very… fluffy. Not even the little pup she’d rescued once or a day-old chocobo chick could match this hound’s sheer fluffiness. Such a large amount of fur would be very difficult to keep clean, so she doubted this one was bred for pure combat. What purpose was it bred for, she then wondered.
Thankfully, the ex-dragoon’s theory about using the roasted meat to win the dog over. Leaving her meat-scented hand out to let the dog lick at and enjoy, she gently reached behind the dog’s ears and gave it some gentle scratches. It had to be someone’s pet. There wouldn’t be a properly-trained war hound in existence that would so casually take a snack from her. She had to wonder what the dog’s owner was like.
But then, after a while, it seemed that the dog was more interested in trying to once again find its owner. Having nothing better to do, but not wanting to be seen, Selenie took to the skies, but this time, was much lower than before. She trailed the dog with ease-even if Selenie were to lose sight of it in the crowd, she had the dog’s scent, and could just as easily track it down. The dog did seem to regularly check to make sure that the ex-dragoon was following it, which made her chuckle softly. The dog must want to introduce her to its owner.
And then, she heard that whistle. Mere seconds later, it was followed by a bark from the dog. Then, a joyful cry of what she could only assume to be the little furball’s name-Angelo. The name sounded male, but the Warrior was no expert on the exact rules of names, so she wasn’t about to assume that the dog was a male.
A brown-haired Hyur-esque woman (so many Hyur-esque people in this world, she mused for a moment) was suddenly tearing through the crowd, heading straight for the dog. A soft smile graced Selenie’s face as she stopped in mid-air, watching the joyful reunion. Complete with scratches and the dog licking the not-Hyur’s face. But then, Angelo started barking in Selenie’s direction. The adventurer sighed, and began to descend. People were quick to make space, staring briefly, with the occasional hushed whisper, before returning to their party.
The veteran of war landed in the newly-opened space, before letting her wings wrap back around herself. It seemed the not-Hyur had never seem anyone quite like her before, which Selenie took no offense to. Even back in her own world, she was quite a… unique specimen, to be civil about it.
“It’s no trouble. If anything, I rather liked not being attacked by an animal. Am I correct in the assumption that Angelo is male?” Selenie said, first assuring the woman it was no trouble, before asking the simple question. She watched briefly as the dog circled her. Perhaps trying to understand just what she was? After all, her scent was a rather confusing one-both mortal and dragon. After a moment, she returned her gaze to the cheerful young woman before her. It was quite plain to Selenie that her mind was reeling with questions, but she wasn’t sure what to ask first.
So, of course, an introduction. Break the ice, so to speak. Simple enough.
“The name’s Selenie. Pleasure to meet you, Rinoa.” She said, answering the question. “Oh, and in case you’re wondering, you don’t have to worry about asking questions about my looks. Believe me, I’ve heard and been asked it all.” She added, in hopes of soothing the woman’s nerves. Poor thing seemed to be a bit jumpy, but Selenie hoped to calm the young woman down soon enough.

    “Selenie...” She was testing her name out before nodding her head enjoying the name. “It’s a pretty name, and even though we just met I say it suites you well.” It was then when she heard her next words did she somewhat freeze up. Shit.
Tumblr media
     Oh god, was Rinoa making it that fucking obvious!? She was mentally yelling in her mind as the women spoke to her. The ravenette was trying her best but... even in her world, there were so many curious creatures but none as she has seen with her standing before her.
     Giving an apologetic smile towards Selenie she dropped her head in defeat. “It was that obvious huh?” Without dwelling on it any longer she could see that Angelo was sniffing her out as well, probably trying to decipher what she even was. Perking up about Angelo she let out a laugh. “Actually, Angelo is female.” Shaking her head side to side she continued. “I was fairly young when I got her, it’s fun catching people off guard with revealing her gender, but she is very unique.”
     It was true, Angelo was one of a kind and she couldn’t have asked for a better companion. “Though I do understand about enjoying not being attacked by fiends. After Angelo was done inspecting the women she went back to her owner’s side - tail wagging in happiness about being reunited with her again, as well befriend someone new. Angelo was pretty proud of herself.
     The questions were still swarming her mind and before long she couldn’t hold back any longer - hoping to not be rude. “May I ask, what exactly are you?” It was really making the female curious. “You are female, human too? Though you also look part... dragon?” The last part left as a question because Rinoa herself wasn’t sure. She hoped she wasn’t being rude. God that would be the last thing she would need.
    But then again, she was very straightforward when she wanted something, but befriending someone well that was a different ballpark really. Rinoa had to really take into consideration that Spirale did take all sorts of people from different places. She really had a lot to learn from this.
     Without realizing it she had taken closer steps towards Selenie and was inspecting her with a look of wonder and amazement. Sure, now it all makes sense why people made way from her - from the area really but Selenie was really amazing. “Ah, I’m sorry.” When it finally settled in that she had moved from her place she took a few steps back to give her space.
      God she really wanted to touch her wings.... but she had to really resist.

asernolonger‌:
Another clear, calm evening had graced the Island. And cloud-free skies meant one thing for the young draconic woman-unlimited, boundless flying, only limited by her own stamina. Tonight, she intended to explore a newer area-a boardwalk area. She would keep to the higher skies, she figured, to avoid spooking anyone that she didn’t need to. After all, her draconic senses meant it was all too easy for her to see in low levels of light.
And by the Twelve, was it alive. Full of people, all of whom were clearly enjoying themselves. The faint scent of liquors, wines, and ales reached her nose, as did the smell of roasted meats. Somewhere, there were some sort of roasted plants, but just like the meats, she wasn’t sure exactly what they were, as they were not scents she recognized. They did smell quite delicious, but she did not want to dive down and scare the hells out of the partygoers currently oblivious to her presence. She’d sneak around later and take a bit for herself, she figured.
As she flew along, she wondered who else she might meet here. So far, she’d met a soft-spoken moon deity, a kind young artist who reminded her somewhat of Alphinaud, and a rather impulsive archer, to name but a few. So varied, but all somewhat interesting, nonetheless.
She swore she heard a whistle, as if someone were calling a chocobo to their side. But she hadn’t seen any chocobos in this world, and she doubted anyone saw her, so was she imagining it? Either that, or someone was trying to recall some other sort of lost pet. She’d seen a few Ishgardian nobles employ the trick to great effect.
And then, she saw it. What had to be the lost pet-some sort of rather-fluffy hound. It was clearly trying to find its owner. Poor thing, she thought, but she did not know the hound, let alone who owned it-
The sounds of growling reached her ears. Shite, the dog had noticed her. Selenie thought for a moment, and then, got an idea. What quicker way to a hound’s heart than through its stomach? She couldn’t think of one. Secretly, she landed near a mostly-deserted platter, and tore off a chunk of meat. She then ate a bit herself (why not, it’s not as if anyone noticed her), and then, offering it forth, slowly approached the growling fluffy creature.
“There’s no need to growl. I’m not going to hurt you. Here, want a treat? Moreover, where’s your master?” She asked softly, kneeling down closer to its level, the hunk of meat still being offered as a simple peace offering.

     Angelo was hesitant with this stranger, she was... different. She was taller and had the features of a human but also didn’t. Her ears were low upon her question about Rinoa. She whined a little in the defeat of not knowing where she was at. Nose sniffing upon picking up the scent of the meat in her hands. Cautiously sniffing and walking closer to her she deemed it was safe and happily took it.
    Rinoa, on the other hand, was currently hunched over the wooden fence that overlooked the waters. “Angelo, where are youuu.” She moaned out as her gaze fell to the waters that licked the pillars of the walkway. Slapping her cheeks the girl pumped herself up once more. No way, she can’t give up now! Angelo was out there and most likely in the same boat, she herself was in.
     Continuing on she looked everywhere that she could not miss anything. The girl knew Angelo could fend for herself, so she wasn’t too terribly concerned, but when none of them knew anything about this place it just made her heart clench with worry. Granted, there didn’t seem to be any dangers within the area but what did she even know.
     The Australian Sheperd was currently befriending the newcomer that shared some meat with her. She still whined once in a while and ears hanging low considering she wasn’t sure where her owner was at but she could sense she could trust this woman.
     Weaving through the crowd Angelo couldn’t just give up, just like her owner. She must keep searching. Making sure the stranger was still following her she kept stopping and looking back, tail wagging happily. Trotting back to her new friend then back in front she began sniffing the air and the ground.
     After awhile Rinoa was about to lose all hope before she decided to whistle once more. After a bit when she didn’t hear anything she was about ready to go mope until she heard a bark. Ears perking up she called  out “Angelo!?”  Making her way through the crowd she heard the barking again. She knew that bark.
     As the barking kept getting louder and louder she saw the familiar fur of Angelo. “Angelo!” The female shouted in happiness as she knelt on the ground and hugging her dog close. Getting licked by Angelo she let out a laugh as she scratched and hugged her tighter. “I’m glad to see you’re safe. Did you get help?” Hearing the question Angelo started barking behind her.
     Standing up Rinoa was about to get ready to thank whoever it was watching out for her dog when she saw the women. Oh. All she could do was really... stare. She really didn’t mean too! Honest! Just, well this world sure did bring all sorts of people from everywhere.
Tumblr media
     Finally trying to find the words she knocked back to reality and gave a warm smile. “Thank you for keeping Angelo company!” Chipper tone she saw Angelo walk in circles around the female. Was she a dragon? A human? Both? Was that even possible? Her head was swarming with so many questions that she had to gather her thoughts. It was rude Rinoa! “Ah! My name’s Rinoa! What’s your name?”

Hatori himself was new to that mysterious place, so it was only natural his will to explore and learn more about the place he was trapped into. He’d seen many people there; however, none of them were even slightly familiar for himself. A blessing and a curse, it seemed.
Strangely, he appeared to be the only one from the Sohma family around. Hatori was resigned to the curse and what it meant. It seemed an irony that, in spite of this fact, he was the one away from the family.
His own mind was far when he noticed someone really close to him. He side stepped just in time to avoid a full collision, but it was not enough to avoid the impact of his arm. After being aware of avoiding being physically close to the opposite gender his whole life, Hatori was used to it. He was glad for it, as he had no interest at all into transforming.
Tumblr media
“I’m fine, don’t worry about it.  I wasn’t careful as well” he replied, putting his hands into his suits pockets. “Are you alright?” His eyes drifted towards the dog next to her, and his mind thought of Shigure.
@dragonlostinwinter
     Sighing a relief that no damage had been done Rinoa shook her head side to side. “I’m fine as well.” She chirped in reply as she gave a smile to show no damage was done on her end either. Oh! Finally, she was able to meet someone even if it was quite literally bumped into someone - kind of.
     Angelo was sitting next to her owner as she stared up at the male. Tail wagging as she could sense no danger from him, though there was something that seemed off to her. Even if she couldn’t really pinpoint it he seemed nice enough.
    “Were you brought to Spirale as well?” Cocking her head to the side she questioned as she got a better look at him. He seemed to be a serious man, if not then just someone who was quiet. Someone who kept to himself and that reminded her of a certain someone she knew. Rinoa was thinking how Leon was doing, this man really did remind her of him.
Tumblr media
     Laughing mentally she turned her attention back to the man in front of her.    “Ah! My name is Rinoa. What’s your name?” Eyes filled with curiosity upon meeting someone in this world, and even of who possibly wasn’t even from Spriale.
