Ritual Music for Space Witches

Some spacecraft and telescopes are equipped with sensors that allow them to record radio emissions from various celestial bodies. These recording can make for excellent background “music” for meditation or during rituals. I like to work with the planetary hours and playing the radio emissions from the planet I’m working with is a great way to draw in and harness it’s energy. 

I’ve complied a list of some of these recordings. I’ve only included videos 30 minutes or longer so that you won’t have to restart them mid-ritual.

Celestial Music 💫🎵

In 1977, NASA launched Voyager 1 & 2, two robotic probes to explore the outer solar system. Between the two probes, they studied Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune, and are traveling through interstellar space at this very moment. During this journey, Voyager has picked up electromagnetic vibrations from these planets that were then translated into sound. 

The celestial music captured by Voyager consists of various sounds from Earth, Jupiter, [Jupiter’s moon] Io, Saturn, Uranus, [Uranus’ moon] Miranda, and Neptune. (Click here to listen to “Symphonies of the Planets” on Spotify). 

More recently, Voyager has also captured sound from interstellar space, and there are recordings available of solar flares and solar storms as well.

cosmic witchcraft 101: how to write stellar spells

There’s a lot to consider when you’re writing any spell, but cosmic witchcraft requires being in tune with the night sky in a way most of us aren’t used to, thanks to light pollution. These are a few of the questions I ask myself when I’m writing my spells and some solutions if your stargazing conditions are less than optimal.

What goal do I hope to accomplish/What is my intent?

What stellar objects (stars, planets, constellations, nebulas, galaxies, and other deep sky objects) have properties/energies that correspond with my intent?

Do I want to work with a stellar object that’s traditionally associated with my intent, or do I want to create my own correspondences?

How do I want to use this object’s energy?

Do I want it to charge/enchant an object like a spell jar or a crystal pouch?

Do I want to use it for meditation/astral travel/divination?

When will the object be visible in the sky?

You can find out when planets and major stars/constellations will be visible with a quick Google, but if you’re working with specific nebulas, galaxies, or other deep sky objects, you may need an astronomy app such as:

SkyView

Star Walk 2 (you have to buy upgrades to see some things)

Stellarium (Stellarium is my favorite and it can also be downloaded to your computer for free!!)

Do I need to see the object to work with it?

For example, certain stars may not be visible in your part of the sky (i.e. Southern hemisphere witches and the North Star), it may be perpetually cloudy where you live, or you may live in an urban area with too much light pollution to see much of anything. Here are some options for situations like these:

Draw energy from the object even though you can’t see it - it’s still there, it just might require a little more effort down on Earth

Choose a different stellar object with similar properties that will be visible when you cast your spell

Tech witches may even be comfortable using software like Stellarium in place of viewing the object directly

How do I want to connect with the sky’s energy?

Stargaze with or without binoculars/telescope

Organize your altar to reflect the stellar object

Drink teas using herbs that correspond with your intent/the stellar object you’re working with

Drink moonwater

Try star scrying

There are Times Magic Just Can’t Help

We may think that our Intention and our Magic can conquer anything.  And while I’m not saying that isn’t so, there are definitely situations where Magic just can’t help and we need to make healthy decisions for our life. 

- Godawful work environments - magic can help take the stress and the edge off of a tense workspace, but if the environment is so bad it’s making you sick, find another job. 

- Relationship issues - You are only in control of 50% of any relationship.  Magic maybe gives you a 52% influence. If the relationship is not working, not getting better, choose some solutions outside of magic, like counseling or ending it. 

- Mental/Physical Ailments - Magic can help, but is NEVER EVER EVER a replacement for true medical treatment from licensed professionals.  If you are against big pharma medical practices, you can always opt for licensed natural doctors and homeopathic medical professionals and psychiatrists.  But please, don’t try to self-treat alone on this. 

- Abuse - Talk to someone about this, find support, and remove yourself from the abuser. Magic cannot and will not solve this.  YOU have to make a decision to make it end. If at any point you feel like yourself or others may be in danger, notify appropriate law enforcement authorities immediately. 

- Huge Looming Life Decisions - Your Pendulum cannot help here sorry… Neither can your Tarot Cards.  There are magical ways of seeing options and paths available more clearly, but ultimately these decisions must be made by YOU, not your Patron, not your Spirit Guide, not your Ancestors… It’s your life and your decision. 

AND FINALLY - Lovelies, it’s always tempting to use magic instead of facing an issue head on.  Especially for us introverted witches… but most often the best course of action is mundane with magic as a helping hand.

Rotting/Decaying Herbs Correspondence

After seeing numerous masterposts about herbs, I noticed there wasn’t any mention of the correspondences when it comes to rotted or decaying herbs.  Here’s my take on this.

Anise- Use to cause a person to have nightmares, misfortune and/or relationship issues.

Apples- Use to cause turmoil between romantic partners.

Barley- Use to direct negativity and misfortune towards a person.

Basil- Use to cause fights, arguments, etc. between two lovers, two friends, two family members. Used to deter love from developing between 2 people. Use to deter customers from shopping at a business.  Use to attract negativity (place in rooms of a house for protection from negativity).

Bay- Use to cause a person to experience nightmares. Use to direct negativity and misfortune towards a person.

Birch- Use weaken protection of a person.

Blackberry- Use leaves in spells to cause for wealth to be drained or mismanaged.

Blueberry- Use to cause for a person to experience negativity and unwanted guests at their home.

Cabbage- Use to cause for fighting and arguing between a married couple.

Cactus- Use to weaken the protection of the home or other properties.

Camellia- Use to cause a person financial difficulties.

Carnation- Use to weaken a person’s leadership skills, commemoration and self-esteem.

Carrot- Use to cause for a person to lose sexual desire.

Catnip- Use to direct misfortune and unwanted spirits towards a person.  Use to cause for a person to feel confused, unwanted, or

Celery- Use to cause a person to have difficulty concentrating during tasks.  Use to cause a person to have difficulty falling asleep.  Use to cause for sexual desire of a person to decrease.

Chamomile- Use to cause for financial difficulties. Use to heighten curse effects.

Cherry- Use to cause a person to feel undesired or loved.

Chicory- Use to heighten and strengthen obstacles in a person’s life.

Cinnamon- Use to cause for setbacks in business or a person’s goals in career.  Use to decrease a person’s protection.

Clove- Use cause for financial hardships.

Cucumber- Use to hinder fertility.

Cumin- Use to cause a person to argue with their significant other and to cause for a person who’s been unfaithful to feel overwhelming guilt.

Cypress- Use to slow down emotional healing process.

Daffodil- Use to cause a person misfortune and to have difficulties in love.  Use to cause a person to feel isolated.

Daisy- Use to deflect unwanted attention from potential romantic partners.

Dandelion- Burn to block unwanted thoughts about a person.

Dill- Use to weaken protection of a person.  Use to cause a person to be unnoticeable and avoidable.

Elder-Use to direct negativity and misfortune.  Use to cause a person to experience a restless night’s sleep.

Fern- Use to weaken a person or location’s protective energy.

Fig- Use to cause a person to experience decreasing sexual desire and decrease protective energy of a home.

Flax- Use to cause a person to experience financial difficulties.

Foxglove- Use to cause for a person’s garden to rot.

Frankincense- Use to weaken protection and stunt spiritual growth of a person.

Gardenia- Use to cause a person’s illness to be slow and difficult.  Use to cause for a person to to feel unwanted.

Garlic- Use to weaken a person’s protective energy and to cause for a restless night’s sleep. Use to cause a person to experience a stroke of bad luck.

Geranium- Use to cause a person to experience weakened protection, romantic desire, and confusion.

Ginger- Use to cause a person financial and love life difficulties.  Use to undermine another person’s magickal workings.

Ginseng- Use to repel love and cause for a person to feel unwanted. Use to cause financial difficulties.  Use to weaken a person’s glamour magick and promote back luck.

Grape- Use to decrease fertility and to weaken mental powers. Use to cause a person to experience financial hardships.

Hazel- Use to cause a person confusion and forgetfulness.

Holly- Use to cause for a person to experience bad luck.

Honeysuckle- Bury near a home to cause for the residents to experience financial difficulties and a stroke of bad luck.

Iris- Use to weaken protection around a person or location. Use to cause a person confusion.

Ivy- Bury near home to cause for it to experience chaos and disarray.

Jasmine- Use to cause a person to experience financial difficulties. Use to cause a person nightmares and a restless night’s sleep.attract money.

Juniper- Use to weaken protective energy around a person or location.

Lavender- Use to cause a person to experience difficulties with love. Use to cause a person to experience nightmares and a restless night’s sleep.  Bury near a person’s home to cause the home to become restless and chaotic. 

Lemon- Use to cause a person to question their romantic partner’s faithfulness. Use to cause a strain between friends.

Lemon Grass- Use to cause a person’s psychic powers to weaken.

Lettuce- Use to cause a person to experience a restless night’s sleep.

Lilac- Use to cause a person to experience bad luck.

Lily-   Use to cause for a person to have unwanted visitors to the home.

Liverwort- Use to drive an emotional wedge between romantic partners.  use to cause a romantic partner to doubt their lover’s dedication.

Magnolia- To expose a unfaithful romantic partner.

Maple- Use to repel unwanted romantic partners.  Use to cause a person financial difficulty.

Marigold- Use to weaken a person’s protective energy and to cause for a restless night’s sleep and/or nightmares.  use to cause a person to become less influential and respected and respected by peers, colleagues,etc.  Use to cause a person to experience difficulty in handling legal matters.

Mint- Use to repel unwanted sexual urges.  Use to cause a person to experience financial difficulty.

Mistletoe-Use to cause a person to experience misfortune, nightmares while sleeping and weakened protection. Use to cause for couples to fight.

Mulberry- Use to cause for a person’s magickal work to backfire or be negated.

Oak- Use an acorn from an oak tree to cause for a person to experience a deduction in sexual desire.  Use to cause for a person to physically and mentally “feel their age”.

Orange- Use to cause for a person to come across as being bland and dull.

Orchid- Use to cause a person financial and social/interpersonal difficulties.

Pansy- Use to repel unwanted feelings associated with love.

Parsley- Use to repel unwanted sexual desire.  Use to cause a person to experience a decrease in lustful thinking.

Peach- Use to cause a person confusion and forgetfulness.  Use to prevent emotional attachment.

Peppermint- (See Mint).

Pine- Use to weaken defenses against negativity.

Raspberry- Use to decrease protective energies around a home or person.

Rice- Use to cause for a married couple to argue.

Rose- use to repel an unwanted lover or romantic partner.  Use to cause a couple to argue and fight.

Rosemary- Use to cause a person to experience a restless night’s sleep and nightmares. Use to cause a person to experience difficulty in learning new information and become confused.

Rowan- Use to cause a person’s divination skills to become weak and confusing.  Use to cause for a person to become weak, unlucky, and experience misfortune. Use to increase spirit communication.

Rue- Use to cause a person to become love-struck and confused. Aids in curses.

Saffron- Use to repel lustful feelings.

Sage- Use to cause a person confusion and misfortune.

St. John’s Wort- Use to cause a person to feel unwanted.  Use to repel unwanted romantic partners.

Sassafras- Use to cause a person to experience financial difficulties.

Spearmint- Use to deter lust.

Strawberries- Use to a person to feel unwanted or unloved.

Sugar Cane- Use to deter unwanted love and attention.

Sunflower- Use to hide the truth from a person or within a situation.  Use to cause a person misfortune.

Thyme- Use to cause a person to experience nightmares. Use to cause a person to be avoidable and unnoticeable or to cause a person to receive overwhelming amounts of unwanted attention.  Use to decrease energy level and cause for a person to become fearful and afraid.

Vanilla- Use to decrease lust. Carry a vanilla bean to cause a person difficulty in maintaining energy and memory.

Vervain- Use to cause a person to experience chaos and instability.  Use to cause for wishes made to be unheard.  Use to friends enemies.  Use to repel unwanted lovers.

Violet- Mix with lavender to repel unwanted lovers and sexual partners. Use to cause a person to have difficulty sleeping and have an increase in their anger.

Willow- Use to repel love. Use to cause healing of a person to be slow.

Wintergreen- Use to cause healing of a person to be slow.

Wormwood- Use to cause a person to experience mechanical difficulties. Use to repel an unwanted romantic partner.

💨 Ways to Cleanse  🍃

cleansing is a way of removing negative or unwanted energies, spirits, and imprints from an object or a space. There are a number of simple rituals and actions that are done to cleanse. You can do as many or as few as you like, and create your own cleansing methods/rituals.

wave a branch of a strong-scented herb through the area, such as mint

toss a pinch of salt or herbs in the door ways and window

touch each corner of the room and say a short prayer over each

Well Water

Well Water is always ignored in posts about water magic, so here goes. 

Well water is fucking powerful. It has the qualities of both water and earth, since it’s come from deep. It’s a perfect water to use for spells concerning memories, ancestors, remembrance, wisdom and anything “deep”. It has this guttural, it’s deep, it’s dark, it’s heavy and filled with powers. Get in touch with your roots, past life, lost memories, lost connections and inner self. 

Well water is also good for healing magic, since it has a deep and soothing feeling. It’s typically best for anxiety, stress, restlessness, and any illnesses to do with an excess in air, such as join pain, things that target your nerves or your mental. Best not ingested unless it’s pure.

Also great for wishes, since you throw a penny in the well to make your wish come true.

And of course, amazing for curses! Especially murkier wells.

Please don’t forget well water, folks. It’s an important connection to the past, to our roots.

🔥Mars Celestial Fire Surround ♂

inspired by the sailor moon anime, a fire-based protection spell

🔥 gather:  iron, cayenne, a black candle and tarragon, and a representative object of that you wish to protect.

🔥 mix the herbs together, rub some over the representative object

🔥 light the black candle and burn a pinch of the spices in its flame

🔥 blow it out and pass the representative object in the smoke, dip a corner of it in the hot wax.

Here’s some advice I had about sigils, a fun and accessible way to make your life more magical! There was a lot I wanted to say so I hope it’s not too wordy.

🌘- Low energy witch tips - 🌒

As someone who is often low on energy, I know the difficulties that can come with trying to maintain your craft. Especially if, like me, you’re hard on yourself about such things. So here are some low energy ideas you can use in your craft day to day:

🌕 - Pay a little more attention to the seasonings you put on your food or what you drink, you might be doing a bit of accidental magic already! Feeling like you need a little protection? Maybe use a bit of basil and a pinch of salt on your next meal if appropriate. There are tons of simple herbs and blended teas, smoothies ect. out there that can really help boost your day if you need them.

🌕 - Talk to your Deities or spirits casually. If they don’t mind it, that is, do be careful not to offend. Though it can’t be said for all deities or spirits, there are many that will appreciate being regarded even just with casual talk. Discuss things with them, talk about how your day went, things you are concerned over, whatever you please. They might even help with issues if they decide to do so or if they are capable and even if they don’t, most of them are at least pleased to be regarded, especially if you don’t have the energy to do much more than that on a daily basis.

🌕 - Sigils. Sigil everything. Though they cannot solve all problems, I have found that sigils are an effective way to combat a lot of the smaller issues in my life. They don’t require too much energy and there are plenty out there if you look for them, so you don’t even have to design your own. 

🌕 - Time spent researching is not time wasted. If you’re too tired to actually do any craft but want to do something involving it, perhaps try sitting down and doing some research. Read books, look on various websites, research things you’d never looked into before and you never know, you just might find something new that calls to you.

🌕 - Incense/fragrance magic. If you’re able to burn incense or scented candles then take advantage of it, find correspondences for the scents you have and light any that might help you in areas of your life you feel need to improve. If you can’t use those then perhaps you can find scented things for a bath/shower and relax with the scents those provide. 

🌕 - Commune using music. You’d be surprised how many deities and spirits enjoy music. Relax with some you feel will be appropriate, even if it’s not at all traditional and you just might find yourself surprised about what they can enjoy. 

🌕 - If you have to go out, look out for items that might help bring your closer to your craft. Going to the supermarket? Perhaps take a brief look in the herb section. If you have a patron deity that enjoys a certain food item then perhaps see if you can get some. It doesn’t even have to cost money if you’re lucky, sometimes you might simply find something on your travels (a feather, a certain stone that looks perfect, a pinecone) and it may work in some way towards your craft.

my favorite trope maybe ever is the shitty witch. the witch who doesnt give a fuck about atmosphere or anything. if you ask her for an energy potion she’ll make you coffee with redbull in it and toss in a few herbs for flavor. her spellbook is this crusty ass 50-cent journal she picked up at walmart with coupons wedged between the pages. uses a candlestick for a wand. her familiar is a rabid squirrel she picked up off the street that exclusively dines on raw meat. probably owns a set of brass knuckles. they’re not enchanted or anything she just likes to do things the old-fashioned way sometimes

Welp, this is just about all I want in death.

Like, I want to be made into a beautiful glass thing.  I want to be something treasured for a long time and rarely talked about.  I want to live in the home of someone who loved me, and touched now and then in silent memory.

I want people to forget that I’m in there, I want the memory of what I am to pass out of the family’s knowledge.  I want to be given away, and put out in a thriftstore somewhere.  

I want someone to buy my ashes for $4.99 and put me in a window and love the colors.  I want to cast beautiful, fractious and curving sunlight across the wall, sparkling and glowing and shimmering, depending on the time of day.  I want someone to take a picture of me with the moon behind me, luminous and mysterious.

I want a witch to buy me and put me in her work room.  I want an artist to leave me on their worktable.  I want to inspire people and make them smile.  I want to be warm from sunlight or chilly from the cool air.  I want to be packed in newspaper carefully when they move.  I want to be given as a holiday or graduation present to someone’s kid, I want to be given as a housewarming gift as a reminder of home.

And god, then, hopefully some day, I want to roll off the table, I want that globe to crack.

And then I want to haunt the living shit out of the future.

I realized today that I have a coat I wear nearly every day, and it made me think of the Once Upon A Time episode explaining Emma’s red jacket and how she feels like it’s her “armor”. Why not infuse a coat with feelings of protection and confidence? I see spells inspired by pop culture all the time and I’m not sure if this has been done already, but here we go.

You’ll need:

Your favorite jacket

Crystals with connotations to protection (I am using obsidian, labradorite, and amethyst). 

You can also use crystals for infusing the coat with other purposes, such as calming stones (I am using rose quartz).

Clear quartz

Satchet bag

Sage

Lavender

Tea light candle

Paper clip or carving tool

Lighter

Safety water

Here’s what to do:

Start with your tea light, lavender, sage, lighter, and carving tool. Into the candle, carve your intentions. In this case, simply the word ARMOR.

Light the candle and keep it in a space free of any hazards. Using the tiniest pinches of lavender and sage, sprinkle it into the candle (not directly into the flame). Make sure you have a cup of water nearby for fire safety purposes!

If you use incantation, feel free to recite whatever comes to mind. In this case I used “Protection is needed, protection is pleaded. This is my will, this is my way, so mote it be.” Really whatever you want is fine.

The reason to use a tealight and not any other size of  candle is to let it burn completely out in one try. If you can’t, that’s fine, but keep it going while you set up your coat.

Put more sage and lavender into the satchet bag, placing it inside a pocket or inside the coat if it doesn’t have one. 

Lay the coat on a flat surface (away from the flame!!!) and arrange your stones around it in a way that resonates with you.

If you have access to a moon-facing window, lay it out overnight with the quartz nearest the window to draw down feelings of comfort and safety you might feel when moongazing. If that is not an option, place the quartz in the middle of the coat to really drawn in the protection and calmness of the other stones you have used. 

Let this sit out overnight (if using the moon) or until the candle has burned out.

📚 threefold law/wiccan rede - a lot of people don’t realize that if you’re not wiccan, you don’t have to follow this. some non-wiccans do follow it. it’s a nice philosophy, to not harm anyone, but like every philosophy, it is not a mandatory way of thinking

💣 don’t curse - goes in hand with the rede, some witches are very adamant about not cursing. and that is their choice! but they don’t get a say in whether or not you get to curse, or whether or not you should. you have your reasons, and they have theirs.

🚫 initiation only - if you choose to go through one, all the power to you. initiation can really help some witches become confident in their abilities, and others feel they are a witch from day one. however, no one can tell you you’re not a true witch because you’re not initiated in any traditions

📖   tutored - a traditionalist notion among some witches is that being an apprentice to another witch with more experience than you is necessary. it can be cool to have a mentor, but there are mentors that abuse that power. a mentor can only teach you the craft as they have perceived it, and you are welcome to learn it that way, but know if you don’t want a mentor you can become a witch by teaching yourself, as many do

💖 love and light - a lot of witches say this constantly, and it can get a bit awkward if you didn’t turn to witchcraft for those reasons. witchcraft can be about good things and positivity, but it can also be about revenge, curses, and protecting oneself. both are valid approaches to witchcraft

👥 have to be in a coven - though it’s not as common as it used to be, being a solitary witch was once a built it community of witches can be a great thing to have, but it isn’t for everyone.

🎋 must cleanse/ground/cast a circle for every spell - though you may use a spell someone else wrote, casting circles and constant cleansing and grounding isn’t necessary for every witch. some witches it must be done, but others it’s just something you might do

😃 emoji spells - no one is forcing you to use them, you don’t have to if you don’t think they actually work. but if they work for you, use them all you want! if you can find the magic in something unconventional and new, all the power to you.

🍃 naturalist - the typical idea of witchcraft is that it involves old, natural things. some people choose to only use natural things in their craft because they like the connection to nature, or don’t feel that synthetic objects fit into witchcraft.

💡 synthetic - some witches, particularly tech witches, incorporate a lot of modern technology. some have a hard time finding the magic in a plastic object. it really depends on you and whether or not you can see things as magical that have not traditionally been interpreted as such or just haven’t been around long enough to feel like legitimate magic

⛪religion - it can be hard to comprehend where the power behind a spell is if a god hasn’t blessed it for some witches. but if you don’t feel connected to a god, or aren’t uplifted by your religion, you don’t need to force yourself to find one. witchcraft it plenty powerful without religion.

remember! your craft if yours, his craft is his, her craft is hers, their craft is theirs. none of them have to follow any of the other’s traditions, and no one should force or pressure someone else into incorporating certain aspects in their
