Lately I have taken to writing assorted articles on Substack. Here I discuss my own thoughts on the numerous challenges video game preservation efforts face.

Top: in Donkey Kong Bananza, the font used for the UI and dialogue is called "Ad Lib". Interestingly, the choice of this specific typeface appears to be an extremely deep reference to the history of the series.
Middle: this typeface was used in the 1990s in various promotional material for Donkey Kong Country games, such as the big captions in the official Nintendo Power guide for Donkey Kong Country.
Bottom: in addition, it even made its way to material included with the games themselves, such as the Donkey Kong 64 manual.
If this is an intentional reference, it demonstrates the lengths to which the development team has gone to research the history of the series. If it is not intentional, it is a remarkable coincidence.

'Super Bubsy'
[PC] [SOUTH KOREA] [MAGAZINE] [1997]
Nothing much to say here. It's a port of the first Bubsy game with a bonus copy of the unaired cartoon series.
What I find most interesting is that if you throw the Korean here into Google Translate, the game is named "Super Law City" and stars a character named "Lawshi"... and that "all Earthlings are naked."
Have fun with this information.

Against all odds and by some miracle, I actually managed to score a Switch 2 pre order from Walmart the night they went live. Turns out letting everyone else fight in line over the Mario Kart World bundle has its advantages

It's somewhat unfortunate that it took Switch 2 to remind gamers that yes, politics does, in fact, affect you whether you like it or not.

The people bemoaning Mario Kart World being 80 dollars likely never had to experience the pain a Sega kid in 90s felt having to shell out 100 dollars for a copy of Virtua Racing on Genesis.
