Confronting indifference toward truth: Dealing with workplace bullshit Numerous organizations are drowning in a big pile of corporate bullshit, and this is especially true of troubled organizations, whose managers have a tendency to make stuff up on the fly with very little regard for possible consequences. Bullshitting and lying are not the same thing. The liar knows the truth and willfully twists it to suit their purpose, whereas the bullshitter essentially doesn't really care about the truth. Managers can do something about this, and this article provides a step-by-step framework to help them do so. They can understand it, recognize it for what it is, act against it, and take measures to avoid it from happening again in the future. While it is unlikely that any organization will ever be able to completely eliminate bullshit, this article contends that by taking this approach, astute managers can work toward reducing the pile. 馃摳 by @hanseiskonen on @Unsplash Source: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.bushor.2020.01.001 #worldscienceforall #science #research #sciencefacts #knowledge #instagood #photooftheday #follow #instagram #repost #photography #amazing #communicator #ciencia #dealing #with #organizational #work #bullshit https://www.instagram.com/p/COMXpk4DD3s/?igshid=gyfyk0rn5nzm

Welfare in the 21st century: Increasing development, reducing inequality, the impact of climate change, and the cost of climate policies Climate policies frequently have greater costs than benefits. According to the researchers, aiming for the 2掳C target is unrealistic and it will cost the world $250 trillion. Even with the predicted climate damage, they estimate that public wellbeing will increase by 434% this century. 馃摳 by @redcharlie on @unsplash Learn more: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.techfore.2020.119981 #worldscienceforall #science #technology #research #sciencefacts #knowledge #instagood #photooftheday #instagram #repost #photography #amazing #communicator #ciencia #tecnologia #climatechange #drought #flood #climatecrisis #trillion #policies #policydebate #cost #target #twodegrees #unrealistic #climatepolicy https://www.instagram.com/p/COLPl7SDUI1/?igshid=gp1gnddj3nig

Laser Paintbrush Used to Create Miniature Masterpieces The importance of light in art cannot be overstated. It enables us to see color and can be used to create one-of-a-kind works of art and design. A recently published study shows how a laser can be a multipurpose and powerful technique for the creation of works of art, similar to how an artist creates a canvas with traditional paints and brushes. The researchers investigated the interplay among focused laser irradiation and metallic surfaces an concluded that an interference-based laser paintbrush such as the one they've designed could find use in modern art and design. Mapping the deforestation footprint of nations reveals growing threat to tropical forests Agriculture and forestry account for 80% of global deforestation. This is primarily due to increased demand for products such as coffee, chocolate, beef, soy, palm oil, and timber, which are often exchanged and consumed in countries all over the world. This is primarily due to increased demand for products such as coffee, chocolate, beef, soy, palm oil, and timber, which are often exchanged and consumed in countries all over the world. A recent study measured the deforestation footprint of individual countries while comparing their domestic deforestation to the equivalent of their imports of goods. According to the report, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, and Japan shipped in more than 90 percent of their individual deforestation footprints from overseas between 2001 and 2015, with tropical forests accounting for 46 to 57 percent of the total. by @justusmenke @Unsplash Source: https://doi.org/10.1038/s41559-021-01417-z #worldscienceforall #science #technology #research #sciencefacts #knowledge #love #instagood #photooftheday #follow #instagram #repost #photography #amazing #communicator #blogger #ciencia #tecnologia #forest #deforestation #bosque #earth #uk #germany #france #italy #japan #climatechange https://www.instagram.com/p/COGG9fUDRnt/?igshid=oiwoo6ygb6xu

US EPA overview on nitrogen pollution, EPA overview on acid rain Nitrogen fertilizer impact on soil acidity Nitrous oxide as a greenhouse gas Information on red tides Nitrogen pollution + algae blooms Impacts of nitrogen pollution and the legacy of nitrogen pollution聽(highly detailed and highly recommended)
Notes:
Most of this post was focused on nitrogen pollution and its effects on aquatic ecosystems and the industries and humans that rely on them. However, nitrogen pollution can take many other forms, and it鈥檚 a rather large issue to tackle precisely because of its broad range of effects that range from air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions to soil pollution to water pollution.
In the U.S., most nitrogen pollution that affects aquatic ecosystems is from agriculture and the overuse of fertilizer, and more efficient methods of growing crops are needed to overcome this issue.
However, nitrogen pollution via the air is from burning fossil fuels, which boils down to transportation/driving vehicles, and manufacturing industries.
Edit: someone noted in the comments that nitrogen makes up 78% of our atmosphere and that the pollution is coming from nitrogen compounds like ammonia, nitrates, and nitrous oxides. That is correct and a good clarification to make.聽

Since the first reports of novel pneumonia (COVID-19) in Wuhan, Hubei province, China. There has been a聽considerable debate about the source of the virus, SARS-CoV-23. SARS-CoV-2 is the seventh coronavirus thought to infect humans; SARS-CoV, MERS-CoV, and SARS-CoV-2 can cause severe disease, while HKU1, NL63, OC43, and 229E are associated with mild symptoms. According to a study of public genome sequence data, the novel SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus that generated the COVID-19 pandemic was the result of natural evolution. the researchers came to the conclusion that no proof was found of a viral manipulation. 馃摲 by Photo by @fusionmedicalapplication on @unsplash Source: https://doi.org/10.1038/s41591-020-0820-9 #worldscienceforall #science #technology #research #sciencefacts #generalknowledge #curiosity #interesting #amazing #picoftheday #instagood #communicator #blogger #origin #covid #coronavirus #sars #nature #naturemedicine https://www.instagram.com/p/CODNl2gjE0E/?igshid=1rmr99wn1qj3z

Global shifts in mammalian population trends reveal key predictors of virus spillover risk The risk of infectious diseases spreading from animals to humans is increased by human exploitation of wildlife. Hunting, commerce, habitat degradation, and urbanization all bring people into close contact with animals, placing wildlife at danger of extinction as well as humans at risk of contracting new diseases. Variability in the analysis of a single neuroimaging dataset by many teams Scientific conclusions are determined by the complex methods used to arrive at them, and different methods can result in different conclusions. The same brain images were studied by 180 researchers from 70 teams from around the world, and their results were substantially different. How can methodologies be enhanced to reduce variability in results? Evidence of human occupation in Mexico around the Last Glacial Maximum Humans were present in a cave in a remote area of Mexico 15,000 years earlier than commonly believed. Archaeologists meticulously excavated the cave, which is located in a drug-controlled area of Mexico. Analysis of tools and sediment reveals that the first Americans lived between 25,000 and 30,000 years ago.
